In New Haven March 25, 2001, Joseph Stewart Blakely, husband of the late Mabel Louise Crowther Blakely of 48 Palmer Rd., Branford.
Father of Valerie Vishno and Daniel Blakely of Branford. Also survived by 3 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Pre-deceased by a grandson Michael Vishno.
He was born in Shelton, June 1, 1910, son of the late Joseph S. and Mary Blakely. He retired in 1972 from SNET where he worked as a switchboard repairman for 32 years. He was a member of Widows Sons Lodge Masonic Temple # 66 in Branford and the Branford Elks Club, and the SNET Pioneers.
A grave side service will be held at a later date. The W. S. Clancy Memorial Funeral Home, 504 Main St., Branford is in charge of arrangements.

In New Haven August 31, 2001, Aedan Michael Bloomquist, of 6 Bradley St., Branford.
He was the beloved son of Gary N. and Karen Beauton Bloomquist of Branford, and brother of Owen Bloomquist of Branford. He was the grandson of Robert Beauton Sr. of Killingworth, Regina Beauton of Branford, and Carl and Alma Bloomquist of Branford. He is also survived by several aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was born July 19, 1980 in Fort Lauderdale, FL, and was a 1998 graduate of Branford High School. He was a fire apparatus salesman for Shipman’s Fire Equipment, and was a volunteer firefighter for the Indian Neck/Pine Orchard Co. 9 BFD. He was also a member of Rescue 1 in Branford.
Friends are invited to go directly to St. Mary Church for a Mass of Christian Burial Tuesday morning at 10:00. Burial in St. Agnes Cemetery. Calling hours will be Monday from 4 - 8 pm at the W. S. Clancy Memorial Funeral Home, 504 Main St., Branford. Memorial donations may be sent to Indian Neck/Pine Orchard Volunteer Fire Co. 9, 45 North Main St., Branford, 06405.

In Florida December 30, 2002, Barbara M. “Betty” Blowers, wife of Ivor T. Blowers, of 7596 SE Independence Ave., Hobe Sound, FL, formerly of Branford.
She was the mother of Alvin Blowers of Oxford, CT, Douglas Blowers of Conway, MA, Barbara Smith of Clinton and Kathleen Gargone of Moorhead City, NC, and grandmother of Wesley and Kevin Smith, Arieh and John Blowers, and Alyssa and Tyler Gargone.
Mrs. Blowers was born in Binghamton, NY, November 3, 1927, daughter of the late Leon and Clarissa Gillette Vandewarker. She had worked as a bookkeeper at LeaseTex Systems in Branford prior to her retirement, and she was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church of Branford.
A committal service will be held Friday January 17th at 10:00 AM in Center Cemetery Branford with a Memorial Service to follow at 11:00 in Trinity Episcopal Church. THERE ARE NO CALLING HOURS.
Memorial donations may be sent to Hospice of Martin and St. Lucie, 1201 S. E. Indian St., Stuart, FL 34997.

Grandmother of Steve Bobinski, Laura Bobinski, Stasia Rapp, John Henry Rapp, Richard Szeligowski Jr., Michael Szeligowski and Kathryn Szeligowski. Also survived by a great-granddaughter, Mariya. Cousin of Ruth Lee of Worcester, MA. Mrs. Bobinski was born in Branford on July 14, 1922, daughter of the late Frank and Stasia Nowardowsky Brada. She graduated from Branford High School in 1940 and was a graduate of Quinnipiac University. During World War II she was with the Army Air Forces Air Craft Warning Services, 1st Fighter Command Reserve.
Funeral from the W.S.Clancy Memorial Funeral Home, 504 Main St. Branford Tuesday at 9:30 with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 at St. Mary's Church in Branford. Burial will be in St. Agnes Cemetery, Branford. Friends may call Monday from 6-8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Ct. Hospice Home Care, 100 Double Beach Rd. He was born June 11, 1937 in New Haven, son of the late Dr. William J. and Rebecca V. Glazer Bodie. He was a driver for Quest Laboratories in Wallingford.
He is father and father-in-law of Kevin W. and Deborah Bodie of Brookfield, CT, Tracy L. Bodie of Coconut Creek, FL, and Beth A. and Stephen Childs of Branford. Grandfather of Stephanie and Michael Bodie of Brookfield and Dalton Childs of Branford. Brother of Sonya Bomster of Alexandria, NH. Also survived by his companion, Donna Gentile, and her sons Marc Padelli of Chester, and Matthew Padelli of Newport Beach, CA. Pre-deceased by his companion of 20 years, Rosemarie Santanello.

She was born Dec. 31, 1922 in Varberg, Sweden. She retired in 1988 from Branford High School where she managed the cafeteria for 30 years. She was a member of Tabor Lutheran Church in Branford and was past president of the Women’s Guild. She was a member of Vasa Star Lodge in Branford.
Friends are invited to a funeral service Saturday morning at 11:00 in Tabor Lutheran Church, Branford. Burial in Tabor Cemetery. THERE ARE NO CALLING HOURS. The W. S. Mary Toussaint LaPorta, 89, of 570 Whitney Ave., New Haven, passed away peacefully at home on Feb. 29, 2008. She was the wife of the late Michael A. LaPorta. Mrs. LaPorta was born in Worcester, MA on April 7, 1918. She was the manager of the Junior League Shop on Whitney Avenue prior to her retirement. Mrs. LaPorta was a business woman who sold elegant stationery & cards for more than 50 years. She was predeceased by a daughter, Patricia. We would like to express our thanks to her loving caregivers, Hazel Reid & Nicole Bibby.

Henry Polek, 88, of 21 Marshall St., West Haven, passed away Feb. 28, 2008 in St. Raphael’s Hospital. He was born in New Haven July 28, 1919, son of the late Steven & Julia Wronski Polek. Mr. Polek worked as a mechanic for Conrail for 18 years prior to his retirement 27 years ago. He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Ruth Kaplan Polek and was the caring father of Steven H. (Bernadette) Polek of Wallingford, Dolores (Frank) Daniele of West Haven, Linda (Mauro) Bonito of North Haven and Patricia (William) Pemberton of East Haven. Also survived by 2 sisters, Helen Onofrio of Hamden and Mary Andrucci of Madison; 11 grandchildren & 12 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by 5 brothers, Frank, Walter, Louis, Stephen & John Polek; a sister, Wanda Paolillo; a grandson, Mark Bonito and a great granddaughter, Alexandra Bonito.

HARDER, LUCILLE M.

Lucille M. Harder, 89, of Hamden died Thursday at Yale New Haven Hospital after a prolonged illness. Daughter of Ralph and Esther Esposito of Haven Street, Lucille was born on November 27, 1918, raised in Fair Haven and attended city schools including Hillhouse High School. Lucille graduated from Teachers College in 1941 and received a Master’s Degree of Science in 1972 from Southern Connecticut State College. She taught in public and parochial grammar schools in Middlefield and New Haven including Prince Street, Woodward, West Hills, Cheever, and St. Bernadette’s Schools.In 1945 she married John F. Harder after a long courtship, interrupted by World War II, and they spent their early years together in Chicago as her husband pursued GI Bill graduate studies. They moved to Auburn New York where their four sons, Michael, Peter, Christopher and James, were born.Returning to New Haven in 1956, they lived in Morris Cove for the next forty-eight years. There they raised their family, welcomed grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and were active members of the community and St. Bernadette’s parish. Lucille’s home was a center of welcome and celebration to family and neighbors alike.Lucille and John lived at the Whitney Center in Hamden from 2004 and were active in community life there.Lucille is survived by her sons, six grandsons, Matthew, Stephen, Joshua, Loic, Christopher Ian and Eric and five great-grandchildren, Braeden, Kealey, John Peter, Monroe and Keaton. She is also survived by daughters-in-law, Barbara and Cindy, and sisters-in-law, Cecily Kikukawa, Monica Kelley and Jean Harder.Lucille was predeceased by her beloved husband John, and sister-in-law Joan Harder.Friends may call at the Celentano Funeral Home, 424 Elm St. (corner of Dwight), New Haven, Monday, March 3 from 4 to 7 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Blessed Sacrament Church, 321 Circular Ave., Hamden, Tuesday morning, March 4, at 10:00 with interment in Evergreen Cemetery, New Haven.

Rose DiNicola Vitelli, 86, of West Haven, passed away Feb. 20, 2008 in St. Raphael’s Hospital. She was the widow of Andrew Vitelli. Mrs. Vitelli was born in New Haven July 16, 1921, daughter of the late Salvatore & Vita DiNicola. At one time, she worked for the May Coat Co. She is survived by a son, Salvatore (Terry) Vitelli of West Haven; a daughter, Linda (Robert) Suchy of West Haven; 2 sisters, Mary Iamele of North Haven and Connie Vitelli of West Haven; 3 grandsons, Jeffrey, Scott & Gregory; and a great grandson, Justen. She was predeceased by 2 sisters, Vita Biondi & Antoinette Franco. Funeral from The Celentano Funeral Home, 424 Elm St. (cor. Dwight), New Haven Friday Feb. 22nd at 10:15. Mass in Our Lady of Victory Church, 600 Jones Hill Rd. at 11:00. Friends may call at the funeral home prior to the funeral from 8:30 to 10:15.Interment in St. Lawrence Cemetery.
