Lonnie Chambers, 79, of Clifton Avenue Ansonia, CT. died on Saturday May 13, 2006, at the Arden House in Hamden. He was born in Mount Gilead, N.C. on January 06, 1927. Mr. Chambers was the son of the late Wesley M. Chambers and Carrie (Bogan) Chambers and the husband of Mrs. Effie R. Chambers. He was employed as a Technician by Phillips Medical. Lonnie was a long time member of Star of Bethlehem Church. He leaves to mourn his loss one son Lonnie (Chambers) Snowden, Jr. of Chicago, Illinois, two daughters Sabrina Fisher of Newport News, VA. and Patrina Miller of Beacon, NY., three brothers Colon and Fletcher Chambers of New Haven and Vernon Chambers of Conyers, GA.; two sisters Willette Tyson and Carrie Lytle of New Haven also 9 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren and relatives and friends. He was predeceased by one daughter, three sisters, and one brother. A celebration of his life will be held Friday May 19 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at Star of Bethlehem Church, 18 Lester St., Ansonia, CT. New Haven. Friends may call Friday at the church 10:00-11:00 a.m. The burial will be private

Eugene W. Sargeant
May 12, 2006
Eugene W Sargeant, 82, formerly of 819 Sherman Pkwy, New Haven, entered into eternal rest on May 12, 2006 at Yale New Haven Hospital. Mr. Sargeant was the son of the late Alexander Sargeant and the late Dorothy Liburd-Huggins, he was born February 27, 1924. in New Haven, CT. Mr Sargeant served in WWII. He leaves to mourn one brother; Ivan Sargeant of Greenburgh, NY, four sisters; Doris M. Seely of Towson, MD, Enid G Sargeant of Hamden, CT, Dorothy B Harris of New Haven, CT, Gwendolyn A Sargeant of Waterbury, CT in addition to many nieces, nephews other relatives and friends. Predeceased by two brothers; Dr Stanley Sargeant and Leroy Sargeant, and two sisters, Irene and Selma Sargeant. A memorial service will be held at St. Matthew UFWB Church, 400 Dixwell Ave., New Haven, on Wednesday, May 17, 2006 at 7 pm.

Yvonne Clarke

Yvonne Clark known as 'Nina' to her grandchildren passed away on May 10, 2006 after a long illness. She was born in Winston Salem, North Carolina to Portia and Richard A. Moss on June 5, 1930. Yvonne attended the University of West Virginia and then pursued a successful modeling career as the first Black model for the Pepsi Cola company. She later retired as the first Black manager for Sunrise Towers Elderly Housing in Winston Salem, North Carolina. Yvonne moved to New Haven, Connecticut in the early 1970's, where she met and later married on July 22, 1974 Gerald S. Clark, Executive Director of Greater New Haven Business and Professional Association and owner of Spectrum Associates management consulting firm. Over the years, Yvonne, with husband Gerald at her side, was active in many community and civic associations and activities including: The New Haven Scholarship Fund and The Greater New Haven Business & Professional Association Inc. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband Gerald S. Clark of New Haven, her daughter Tanya Wylie Riddick of Lawrenceville, GA (previously of Hamden, CT); her sons, William Clark of Hamden, CT and Gerald Clark, Jr. of Chicopee, MA; her grandchildren, Michael and Eniris Riddick of Tampa, FL, Marques Riddick of St. Petersburg, FL; Justin, Gerald III, and Alyssya Clark of Springfield, Ma; Alexandria Clark of Cos Cob, CT; and Maraya Clark of Hamden, CT; her great-grand children, Aisah Riddick of Tampa, FL.; and Justice and Justina Clark of Springfield, MA; her sister in law, Wilhelmina O. Sari-Clark of Moscow, Iowa; and daughters in law, Debra Bond Clark of Hamden, CT. and Lisa Byers Clark of Springfield, MA. She was predeceased by her brother, Richard Moss and is survived by two brothers, Mark and Jay Moss of Winston-Salem, NC and one sister, Mary Beavers of Las Vegas, NV. She has a host of close friends, nieces and nephews including: Clifton (deceased) and Mayme Graves and their children Cathy, Clifton, Donna, and Eddie Graves of New Haven, CT and Hillary Weaver of Buffalo, NY. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be sent 'In memory of Yvonne Clark' to the Sickle Cell Disease Association of America, Inc., 231 East Baltimore St., Suite 800, Baltimore, MD 21202, Attn: Dr. Edwards (or for electronic donations: www.sicklecelldisease.org) or the New Haven Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 8936, New Haven, CT 06532. Viewing hours will be from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, May 15, 2006 at Howard K. Hill Funeral Services 1287 Chapel Street New Haven, CT.. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 16, 2006.

Marcella L. Wright

Mrs. Marcella L. Wright, 75, of New Haven, CT. entered into rest May 10, 2006. She was born May 9, 1930 to the late Reverend Walter Teague and Betty Green. Mrs. Wright worked as a private duty nurse's aide. She and her family were long time members of Macedonia COGIC. Marcella leaves to mourn her beloved husband Wilbur Wright, three daughters, Jeannette Green and Margurite Johnson of New Haven, and Deborah Brown of Hampton, VA.; six sons, Reverend Lawrence and Marshall Green of New Haven, Andre Wright of New Haven, Randall Wright of Kansas City, MO., William Wright of Maryland and Willie Wright, Jr. of Louisville, KY; three brothers Charles and Eugene Teague of New Haven, Richard Teague of West Haven, and a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was predeceased by five brothers and five sisters. Funeral will be held Saturday May 20. Details will be provided on Thursday.

Mrs. Eva Johnson, 77, of 53 Willis St. New Haven, CT. entered into rest on May 4, 2006. She was born on November 25, 1928 to the late Clarence & Virgie Randolph in Virginia. Mrs. Johnson worked for Yale University, and retired after many years of service. She was also well known for her love of cooking. She leaves to mourn her loss beloved husband Mr. James Marshall Johnson, and 8 loving children; Mr. Marshall James (Vicky) Johnson of Greenville, S.C., Mr. Melvin Johnson and Ms. Jean Johnson of New Haven, CT., Mr. George Earl (Lisa) Johnson of Branford, CT., Elder Larry Lash (Joy) Johnson of New Haven, CT., Mr. Leon (Byrute) Johnson of Hamden, CT. and Mr. Seth (Nancy) Johnson of New Haven, CT. four surviving sisters; Mrs. Elizabeth Pollard and Ruth Grey of New Haven, Evangelist Mary Anne Walters Of Milford, CT. and Josephine Jackson of Arvonia, Va., three surviving brothers Mr. Samuel Randolph of Baltimore, Md., Clarence Randolph of New Haven, Mr. Maury Randolph of Jacksonville, Fl. Also left to mourn; two brother in-laws, four sister in-laws, 35 grandchildren, 45 great grandchildren, and one great- great grandchild. A host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, friends and a son in-law; Clashes Howard. She was predeceased in death by two brothers, one sister, and one loving daughter Mrs. Joan Johnson- Howard. A Celebration Of Life for Mrs. Johnson will be held on Saturday, May 13, 2006 at 9a.m. at Trinity Temple C.O.G .I.C., 285 Dixwell Avenue New Haven, Ct. Mrs. Myrtle Brown, 83, of Hamden died on May 4, 2006, at the Sister Anne Center in New Haven. She was born in Kinston, N.C. on November 12, 1922. Mrs. Brown was the daughter of the late John Badger and Rosa Fields. She is the widow of Edward Brown. She was employed as a dietary aide at Yale New Haven Hospital. She leaves to mourn her loss four sisters Beulah Brown of Hamden, Margie Harrison and Dollie Clemmons of New Haven, and Lissie Martin of N.C., four brothers Haywood, Clifton, Johnnie, and Lloyd Badger all of New Haven, and two nieces Margie D. Watson and Rose Butler of Hamden. She was predeceased by one son Eugene Powell and sister Annie Badger. A celebration of her life will be held Friday May 12, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Stephens Pentecostal Church at 856 Congress Ave., New Haven, CT. Friends may call Friday at the church from 10-11 a.m. The burial will follow in Hamden Plains. Arrangements in care of Howard K. Hill Funeral Service at 1287 Chapel St. New Haven, CT.

Maria E. Gonzales

Maria E. Gonzalez, 47, formerly of Washington Avenue, New Haven, CT. passed away on Monday May 1, 2006, in the Hospital of St. Raphaels. She is the daughter of Genove Gonzalez and was predeceased by her mother Luz M. Roldan. Ms. Gonzalez leaves to mourn her loss five sons Raymond Hernandez of Branford, CT, Juan and Jose Hernandez, Carlos Nieves and Miguel Gonzalez all of New Haven. She is also survived by brother William Gonzalez of New Haven and eight additional brothers and sisters, along with nine grand-children. A celebration of her life will be held Friday May 5, 2006 from 5-7 pm at Centro Cristiano de Restauracion at 555 Columbus Ave. in New Haven, CT. Friends may call Friday from 5-7 pm at the church. A funeral procession will leave the church on Saturday May 6, 2006 at 9:30 am. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery.

Florence King
April 28, 2006
Florence King, a resident of the New Haven area for over 50 years, died on April 28, 2006 at Harborside Arden House nursing home in Hamden, CT. of natural causes. Mrs. King hailed from Birmingham Alabama, where she was born on November 23rd, 1917. She then joined her daughter and son-in-law, the late Birder and Howard Rogers, Sr., in New Haven in the 1950's. The family moved to Homeside Avenue in West Haven in 1960, where Mrs. King not only helped to raise her grandchildren but also helped countless working parents to raise their children as an in-home day care provider. She was loved by all who knew her. She is survived by her grandchildren, Cheryl, Sharon, and Howard Rogers, Jr. and her most beloved great-granddaughter, Dominique Rogers Kennedy. In keeping with her wishes, services are to be private. Her final resting place will be in Alabama. There will be a memorial service held at a later date. On Wednesday April 26, 2006, the Lord called Kendraya home. Kendraya K. Glasper, daughter of Stephanie Glasper and Kenneth English, was born July 10th, 1984 in New Haven, CT. She graduated from Hillhouse High School in 2003, and attended Gateway Community College. She was presently employed by Yale New Haven Hospital in the Department of Environmental Services. She is survived by two sisters, Latoya and Moniece Glasper, four brothers, Shaquille and Kwanmoine Glasper, Stephan Boomer, and Damont English and her step-father Curtis Boomer and a host of relatives and friends. A celebration of her life will be held Thursday May 4, 2006 at St. Pauls Church at 11a (corner of Dwight and Chapel Streets). Friends may call at the church from 10 - 11a. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery.

Douglas M. Moore

Douglas M. Moore 75, of New Haven, died April 22, 2006 at the Hospital of St. Raphael's. Mr. Moore, son of the late Aileane Sessom, was born March 3 1931 in Philadelphia PA. He was an Air force Veteran. Mr. Moore had no surviving family, but he was a responsible worker for Ann Taylor as a material handler. Regarded as a quiet, well-spoken man who kept to himself, Mr. Moore was very faithful to his religious beliefs as was witnessed by the dear friends with whom he resided Vincent and Carmel Rubino of New Haven.
Graveside burial rites with full military honors will take place Wednesday, April 26, 2006 at 11am at the All Saints Cemetery in North Haven, CT.
