PALMIERI, FRANCIS M.
June 29, 2007
Francis M. “Frank” Palmieri, 86, of Donna Lane, West Haven passed away at home on June 29, 2007. Born in New Haven Sept. 19, 1921, he was the son of the late Michele & Immaculata Romano Palmieri. He was a graduate of Providence College. He resided in New Haven until moving to West Haven in 1970. Since 1957, he was employed by the City of New Haven in various technical and administrative capacities including the Tuberculosis & Health associations, the Health Department, The New Haven Redevelopment Agency, and the Building Inspection and Enforcement Agency until his retirement in 1987. During World War II, he served in the US Army Medical Corps from 1943 to 1946.. He is survived by 4 sisters, Mary Orsini, Tena Parise, Patty Annatone & Margaret Palmieri, all of West Haven; and several nieces & nephews, including his caregiver, Robert Pidskalny. He was predeceased by 4 sisters, Adeline Mansi, Frances Vanacore, Ann Popolizio, Rose Pidskalny and an infant brother, Michele Palmieri Jr.
Funeral services will be private. Interment in St. Lawrence Cemetery. Arrangements are in care of The Celentano Funeral Home, New Haven. Contributions may be made to American Heart Association, 5 Brookside Drive, Wallingford, CT 06492; American Diabetes Association, 300 Research Pkwy., Meriden, CT 06450, American Cancer Society, 538 Preston Ave., Meriden, CT 06450 or the charity of one’s choice.

BOST, ANTHONY
June 26, 2007
Anthony Bost, 21, of 150 Church St., Hamden, died June 26, 2007 in Yale New Haven Hospital. Born in New Haven Nov. 25, 1985, he was the son of Randy and Patricia Watts Bost of Hamden. Beside his parents, he is survived by 1 brother, Eric Bost of Bronx, N.Y.; 2 sisters, Melissa Robinson of Hickory, N.C. and Karen Hunt of Charlotte, N.C.; his maternal grandmother, Dorothy Watts of New Haven as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives & friends. He was predeceased by his maternal grandfather, Alston C. Watts and his paternal grandparents, Gaither & Mary Bost.
Friends are invited to attend funeral services in Christ Chapel New Testament, 220 Dixwell Ave., New Haven Thursday July 5th at 11:00 AM. Calling hours from 9 to 11 AM. Interment in Evergreen Cemetery

BENNETT, ROY L.
June 24, 2007
Roy L. Bennett, 86, husband of the late Rose Formichella Bennett, died peacefully at his home June 24, 2007. He was a resident of East Haven for 50 years. Mr. Bennett was born in Troy NY, Dec. 11, 1920 a son of the late Fredrick and Francis Lee Bennett. He served in the Navy during WWII and worked as an electrician. Roy was a member of the I.B.E.W Local # 90 for 60 years. He is survived by 2 sons; Douglas Bennett and his wife Loretta of Wallingford and Gerald Bennett and his wife Bonita of Woodbridge. Mr. Bennett is also survived by 5 grandchildren; Madeleine, Jessica, Jeremy, Timothy, and Susanna.
Funeral services will be held in The Celentano Funeral Home, 424 Elm St.(cor. Dwight) New Haven Wednesday at 9:15 AM. Friends may call Tuesday from 5 to 8 PM. Interment in All Saints Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Westville Bible Chapel, 201 Alston Ave. New Haven, CT 06515.

KAKALOW, AUGUST
June 17, 2007
August Kakalow, 89, formerly of New Port Richey, FL. and Lake St., Wallingford, died June 17, 2007 in Masonic Healthcare Center. He was the husband of Jennie Botta Kakalow and the late Joan E. Archer Kakalow. Born in Derby on Sept. 13, 1917, he was the son of the late James and Athena Kakalow. A house painter by trade, he worked for over 40 years for S. Russota & Son, Joseph Cohn & Son, Inc. as well as for himself. He was a member of Painters Union Local 186. He has lived in New Port Richey for the past 27 years. A 32nd degree Mason, he was a member of Olive Branch Lodge No. 84, A.F. & A.M. During World War II, he served with the US Army Medical Detachment in the Asiatic-Pacific War Theater. Beside his wife, he is survived by 2 sons, James (Patricia) Kakalow of West Haven & Michael A. (Maria) Kakalow of Wallingford; a brother, Michael Kakalow of Grants Pass, Oregon; a sister, Mrs. James (Lillian) Poulmas of Naugatuck; 5 grandchildren, Gus Kakalow of KY., Michael J. Kakalow of Wallingford, Karen Daley of North Branford, Chris Kakalow of North Haven & Greg Kakalow of New Haven; and 6 great grandchildren.
Friends may call at The Celentano Funeral Home, 424 Elm St. (cor. Dwight) New Haven Tuesday (TODAY) from 5 to 8 PM and are invited to attend funeral services at St. Barbara Greek Orthodox Church, 480 Racebrook Road, Orange Wednesday morning at 10:30. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery.

BROWN, EDWARD J.
June 14, 2007
Edward J. Brown (Barone), 94, of 10983 Green Trail Drive So., Boynton Beach, FL., died June 14, 2007 in Hospice Bethesda Med. Center, Boynton Beach. Born in New Haven April 6, 1913, he was the son of the late James G. and Louise V. Colletti Barone. He was vice president of the James Brown Paint Co., formerly located in the College Plaza. He has been a Florida resident for the past 26 years. During World War II, he served with the US Navy in the Pacific War Theater and was the recipient of the Bronze Star Medal and Pacific War Zone Medal. He is survived by a cousin, Ceil Sanzone of Orange; his dear friends, Robert C. Byrd and Raymond & Belinda Barra, all of Hamden; as well as other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by 4 brothers, Joseph, William, Frank & Charles J. Brown and 2 sisters, Rose Raffile and Mrs. James (Helen) Heinz.
Friends may call at The Celentano Funeral Home, 424 Elm St. (cor. Dwight) New Haven Wednesday from 6 to 8 PM and are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Anthony’s Church Thursday at 10:00 AM. Interment in Beaverdale Memorial Park.

ESTEP, GLADYS
June 12, 2007
Gladys Eleanor Slater Estep, 86, of New Haven, entered into peaceful rest June 12, 2007 at Yale New Haven Hospital. She was the beloved wife of the late Samuel David Estep. Born in New Britain Oct. 15, 1922, she was the daughter of the late John & Amanda Peterson Slater. She moved to New Haven as a child and lived here all her life. She worked at National Folding Box Co. for many years, and, in later years, for Yale University Health Plan until retirement. She was a member of North Haven Congregational Church. She enjoyed cooking and crocheting, loved her grandchildren and animals. She was loved by many and will be missed very much. She is survived by 2 sons, David S. (Nancie Brockett) Estep of North Haven and Lt. Stephen M. (Cindy Brill) Estep, NHFD, of East Haven; a daughter, Patricia A. Estep of New Haven; 2 sisters, Charlotte Lamb of North Haven & Mary Hock of Simsbury; a brother, John C. Slater of West Haven; and 3 loving grandchildren, Holly, David & Stephen Estep Jr., all of East Haven. She was predeceased by 4 brothers, Frederick R., William J., Charles and Howard S. Slater and 2 sisters, Ruth Cantley & Elizabeth Anderson.
Funeral from The Celentano Funeral Home, 424 Elm St. (cor. Dwight) New Haven Saturday morning at 9:15. Services at North Haven Congregational Church, 28 Church St., North Haven at 10:00. Friends may call at the funeral home Friday from 4 to 8 PM. Interment in All Saints Cemetery.

PINA-ARAUJO, CONDENCE
June 6, 2007
Condence (Frank) “NhuNhu” dePina-Araujo, 86, formerly of 125 Orchard St & 34 Sheldon Terrace, New Haven, entered into Rest Eternal June 6, 2007 at The Jewish Home for the Aged. He was the husband of the late Helen Marie Young dePina-Araujo. Born in New Haven Feb. 12, 1921, he was the son of the late Joao (John) & Albertina Teixeira dePina-Araujo., He worked as a shop laborer with AMTRAK for many years until retirement and was a member of Firemen & Oilers Union, Local 345. He also worked at the former Del’s Package Store and Flamingo Bar & Grill, and was well known in the food catering industry. During World War II, he served with the US Army in the Pacific War Theater and was awarded several medals including Bronze Star, Good Conduct & Victory Medals, Asiatic Pacific Theater & Philippine Liberation Ribbons. He saw action in New Guinea & Luzon. He spent many years of his retirement performing volunteer work at hospitals and nursing homes throughout the New Haven area, bringing lots of joy to patients. He was known as “Uncle Frankie” by everyone. He is survived by 2 sisters, Alice Pina Hopwood and Louise Pina Giles; his granddaughter, Susan; several nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by brothers, Anthony (Tony) dePina-Araujo, Joseph (Jedge) dePina, Albino (Albert) (Morgado) dePina-Araujo & Arthur (Tutu) Pina; and sisters, Felismina Fernandes & Philomena Joseph.
Friends may call at St. Martin dePorres Church, 196 Dixwell Ave. (cor. Webster St.) Tuesday morning from 9:30 to 10:30. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30. Interment, with Military Honors in Beaverdale Memorial Park. Arrangements are in care of The Celentano Funeral Home, 424 Elm St., New Haven. Fannie Mendillo Fasano, 98, formerly of 710 Legion Ave., New Haven, passed away June 3, 2007. She was the widow of Marcell Fasano. Born in New Haven May 27, 1909, she was the daughter of the late Pasquale & Jennie DeMeola Mendillo. She was the loving mother of Rosemarie (Bob) Alchimio & Janet (John) Corvi, both of Hamden; Grandmother of Robert (Donna) Alchimio & Stacey (Michael) Anquillare; Great grandmother of Alyssa & Alexa Alchimio, Michael Anthony & Alexandra Anquillare. She was predeceased by 4 brothers, Albert, Anthony, Frank & Joseph Mendillo. Her greatest joy came from her children, grandchildren & great grandchildren. Friends and relatives are invited to go directly to St. Anthony’s Church, 70 Washington Ave. for a Mass of Christian Burial Wednesday morning at 10:00 AM. Entombment in St. Lawrence Garden Mausoleum. There will be no calling hours. Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to Hamden Health Care Recreational Fund, 1270 Sherman Lane, Hamden or to the charity of one’s choice. CAIAFO, ANNA – In Middletown, May 30, 2007, Anna Mangino Caiafo, 96, wife of the late Constantine ”Gus” Caiafo, formerly of Atwater St., New Haven. She was born in New Haven Nov. 14, 1910 a daughter of the late Basilio and Antonetta Perrino Mangino. Mrs. Caiafo is survived by a son; Angelo Caiafo of North Haven, a daughter; Marie Leone of Guilford, 4 grandchildren; Elizabeth and Michael Caiafo, Dominic Landolfi, and Maria Shields, and 5 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by brothers; Joseph, Carmen and Salvatore Mangino, and a sister Mary Hickey.
Her funeral will leave the Celentano Funeral Home, 424 Elm St. (Cor. Dwight) New Haven Friday at 10:15 AM. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Rose of Lima Church at 11:00. PENN, MURAL K.
May 30, 2007
PENN, MURAL K. - Mural Kiplyn “Kippy” Penn, age 46, of New Haven, died May 30 at Yale New Haven Hospital after a long illness. Kippy was born in New Haven on July 19, 1960, son of Thelma Penn and the late Fredrick Penn. A graduate of Eli Whitney class of 1978, he attended and graduated from Porter and Chester School of Architecture in Stratford and also received a degree from DCI Computer Center in New Haven. Kip is survived by one son, Scott Boyd of North Carolina, a sister, Ramona Teel, 2 nieces, Qiana Burgess and Chiffone Nieves, 3 great nephews, Rowyn Burgess, Mi’khel Nieves and My’eir Nieves all of New Haven, as well as 4 generations of aunts, uncles, and cousins along with many loving friends. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 2:00PM in the Celentano Funeral Home, 424 Elm St.(Cor. Dwight) New Haven. Burial will be private. Friends may call at the funeral home Saturday from 1:00 – 3:00 PM.

RICARD, REV. JOSEPH M.
May 29, 2007
Reverend Joseph Marcel Ricard, 79, of Davenport, FL died in the Good Shepherd Hospice, Auburndale, FL May 29, 2007 after a brief illness. Father Ricard was born in Watertown, CT Jan. 8, 1928 a second son of the late Alide and Alma Miller Ricard. A graduate of Plainfield High school, he attended Assumption College and received his BA from St. Mary’s Seminary in Baltimore, MD. Serving in the Air Force from 1948-1955 he was stationed throughout the US and eventually with NATO in Italy as a Staff Sergeant who was discharged with a Good Conduct Medal, along with other ribbons. Ordained in St. Patrick Cathedral, Norwich on May 7, 1964 by Bishop Hines he faithfully served the Diocese of Norwich before retiring in May of 1994. As the proud National Chaplain for Project freedom, an organization seeking an accounting of all MIAs and POWs of the Korean and Vietnam conflicts, he received a Letter of Commendation from Gen. William Westmoreland. Joe was an accomplished author and cook as well as a dear friend. He was the brother of Roland and Yvon Ricard of Florida and the late Armand, Jean-Louis, Yolande, and Robert Ricard. He is also survived by 11 nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Most Reverend Michael R. Cote, D.D., Bishop of Norwich, in the Cathedral of St. Patrick, Tuesday at 10:30 AM. Father Ricard will lie in state in the Cathedral from 9:30- 10:30. Interment will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Place Soup Kitchen, 10 Railroad Pl., Norwich, CT, 06360. The Celentano Funeral Home, 424 Elm St., New Haven is in charge of the arrangements.
