Walter J. Daily,

a lifelong Stamford resident, died Monday, Oct. 2, 2000 at Stamford Hospital. He was 84.

He died of cardiac arrest, according to his family.

Born Oct. 24, 1915, in Stamford, he was a son of the late John L. and Elizabeth L. Doherty Daily.

Mr. Daily owned Daily's Meat and Grocery Market for many years. He was a member of St. Maurice Church in Stamford.

He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.

Mr. Daily is survived by a brother, the Rev. Leo J. Daily of Wallingford; two stepsons; a stepdaughter; and several cousins.

He was predeceased by his first wife, Florence Lee Daily; and his second wife, Doris Blumquist Daily.

Calling hours will be 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2000 at Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home, 104 Myrtle Ave., Stamford.

A procession will leave the funeral home at 9:20 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 5, and proceed to St. Maurice Church, 358 Glenbrook Rd., Stamford, for a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m.

Burial will follow in St. John Cemetery in Darien.

Edith T. Barreca,

a Norwalk resident, died Sunday, Oct. 1, 2000 at home. She was 74.

She died of coronary arrest, according to her family.

Born March 14, 1926, in Reggio, Calabria, Italy, she was a daughter of the late Rosario and Laura Polito Agostino.

Mrs. Barreca was a member of New Horizons at St. Matthew's Church, the Norwalk Senior Center and AARP.

She is survived by her husband, Domenick C. Barreca of Norwalk; a daughter, Denise Hicks of Purcellville, Va.; a brother, Natale Agostino of Norwalk; a sister, Lada Agostino of Norwalk; and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Barreca was predeceased by two brothers, Anthony Agostino and Alfred Agostino; and a sister, Theresa Spano.

Calling hours will be 10 to 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2000 at Magner Funeral Home, 12 Mott Ave., Norwalk.

A memorial Mass will be celebrated at noon Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2000 at St. Matthew's Church, Scribner Avenue, Norwalk.

Burial will be at noon Friday, Oct. 6, in St. Mary's Cemetery, North Street, Greenwich.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Matthew's Church, Scribner Avenue, Norwalk, CT 06850.

Maggie Mae Thompson,

a longtime Stamford resident, died Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2000 at home. She was 68.

She died of cancer, according to her family.

Born March 22, 1932, in Camden, Ala., she was a daughter of the late Rufus and Mary Thompson.

Ms. Thompson worked for Courtland Gardens in the housekeeping department. She was a member of the Faith Tabernacle Baptist Church in Stamford.

She is survived by two sons, Jimmy Thompson of Stamford and Richard Thompson of Lansing, Mich.; a daughter, Jeanette Thompson of Stamford; a brother, Bobbie Thompson of Pensacola, Fla.; three sisters, Ruby Lee Thompson and Mammie Manzie, both of Camden, and Willie Ann Wilson of Lansing; a granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 5, 2000 at Faith Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church, 29 Grove St., Stamford.

A funeral service will follow at 8 p.m. at the church.

Burial will take place in Camden, Ala.

Downer Funeral Home, 31 Stillwater Ave., Stamford, is handling arrangements.

Yvonne Neville,

a lifelong Stamford resident, died Friday, Sept. 29, 2000 at Stamford Hospital. She was 27.

She died of lupus, according to her family.

Born Dec. 5, 1972, in Stamford, she was the daughter of Ernest Dumas of Norwalk and Rose Mary Neville of Stamford.

She was a teacher at Hillandale School Readiness Program for two years.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by two sons, Sean A. Williams and Raekwon D. Valencia, both of Stamford; a brother, Bob Albert III of Stamford; four sisters, her twin Dionne Neville of Stamford, Devona Neville of Stamford, and Yolanda Dumas and Antionette Dumas, both of Norwalk; grandparents, Thomas Neville and Marion Cleo Hawkins of Mobile, Ala.; and her companion, Sean William Sr.

Calling hours will be 11 a.m. to noon Saturday, Oct. 7, 2000 at Community Tabernacle of Deliverance Church, 198 Selleck St., Stamford.

A funeral service will follow at noon at the church.

Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery, 66 Woodland Place, Stamford.

Downer Funeral Home, 31 Stillwater Ave., Stamford, is handling arrangements.

Jennie Baldassare,

a longtime Stamford resident, died Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2000 at Tandet Center for Continuing Care in Stamford. She was 84.

She died of complications from diabetes and Alzheimer's disease, according to her family.

Born June 10, 1916, in New York City, she was a daughter of the late Pasquale and Rosa Conetta.

Mrs. Baldassare was a seamstress at the Custom Canvass Co. of Stamford, where she worked for more than 20 years.

She is survived by a brother, Patsy Conetta of Stamford; two sisters, Dolly Rubino and Rose Galatro, both of Stamford; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband, Frank J. Baldassare; two daughters, Joann Vitti and Marie Casinelli; six brothers, Angelo Conetta, Tony Conetta, Vito Conetta, Dominick Conetta, Michael Conetta and Richard Conetta; and a sister, Louise Scappatura.

Calling hours will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, Oct. 4, 2000 at Lacerenza Funeral Home, 8 Schuyler Ave., Stamford.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 5, 2000 at Sacred Heart Church, 37 Schuyler Ave., Stamford.

Burial will follow in St. John Cemetery in Darien.

Evelyn Bruder,

a Long Beach, N.Y., resident, died Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2000 at home. She was 91.

She died of natural causes, according to her family.

Born Oct. 17, 1909, in Des Moines, Iowa, she was the daughter of the late Abraham and Rose Rosenberg Miller.

Before her marriage, Mrs. Bruder worked as a legal secretary. She also worked with her husband at his cashmere sweater company.

Mrs. Bruder is survived by her daughters, Joan Danoff of Stamford and Patricia Debrovner of New York City; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband of 60 years, Maurice Bruder.

Funeral services will be held at 9:45 a.m., Friday, Oct. 6, 2000 at Guttermen Funeral Home, Long Beach Road, Rockville Center, N.Y.

Burial will be at Beth David Cemetery, Elmont, N.Y.

Joan E. Cox of Boston,

a former Stamford resident, died Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2000 at home. She was 55.

She died of colon cancer, according to her family.

Born March 7, 1945, in Brooklyn, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late John and Clara McCarthy Evely.

Mrs. Cox is survived by her husband, Jim A. Cox of Boston; a son, Patrick F. Sullivan Jr. of Annapolis, Md.; three daughters, Megan Sullivan of Berlin, Germany, and Karen and Lynn Sullivan, both of Stamford; and two grandchildren.

There are no calling hours.

A memorial service will be held 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 7, 2000 at J.S. Waterman and Sons Eastman-Waring, 495 Commonwealth Ave., Boston.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Angel Guardian Home, 6301 12th Ave., Brooklyn, NY 11219.
