PANZA, CONCETTA
May 24, 2007
Concetta DiCerbo Panza, 96, formerly of 41 Mattabassett Drive, Meriden, passed away May 24, 2007 in Westfield Care, Meriden. She was the widow of Joseph F. Panza. Mrs. Panza was born in New Haven Aug. 29, 1910, daughter of the late Joseph & Louise Albano DiCerbo. She was the featured soprano soloist at St. Brendan’s Church for many years. She also sang at St. Ann’s Church in Hamden and worked for the former Edw. Malley Co., performing there as Snow White. A feature in the Elm City Clarion column of Oct. 8, 1978 noted that “Concetta Panza was a close friend of Meriden opera star Rosa Ponselle and studied voice under the direction of Madame Romanoff in New York City. Studying under a scholarship won during an appearance at the old Poli Theater in New Haven, Concetta soon was featured soloist over the airwaves on the Italian Hour and the Gypsy Wanderer’s show originating over a Waterbury station.” In 1935, she was chosen as guest soloist at the 50th Anniversary celebration of movie mogul, S.Z. Poli and his wife at Villa Nova in Woodmont. She also sang with the Sweet Adelines. She is survived by a brother in law, Frank Scialabba of Hamden and a sister in law, Phyllis Panza Giordano of West Haven and several loving nieces & nephews. She was predeceased by 3 brothers, George, Frank & Richard DiCerbo and 2 sisters, Helene Scialabba & Rosemary Vizziello.
Funeral from The Celentano Funeral Home, 424 Elm St. (cor. Dwight) New Haven Tuesday morning at 9:30. Mass in St. Brendan’s Church at 10:00. Friends may call at the funeral home Tuesday from 8:00 to 9:30 AM. Entombment in St. Lawrence Garden Mausoleum. HOBART, CONSTANCE M. In Charleston, SC May 24, 2007 Constance Marie (Connie) Hobart, 47, wife of Edward Dziamalek of Ladson, SC. She was born in New Haven May 4, 1960 a daughter of John and Joan Beauvais Osborne of Hamden. Besides her parents and husband she is survived by a son; Gary E. Hobart of Ladson, SC, a brother Edgar Clement of Wallingford; and 2 grandchildren; Alexis McCabe and Ragan Hobart. She was predeceased by her daughter, PFC Melissa J. Hobart and a sister Jacquelin Long.

KASSAKIAN, MARY
May 7, 2007
Mary Bodnar Skrak Kassakian, 94, formerly of New Haven, passed away May 7, 2007 in St. Raphael’s Hospital after a brief illness. She was the widow of Daniel Sarkiss Kassakian. Born in Pennsylvania March 30, 1913, she was the daughter of the late Lawrence & Elizabeth Bodnar Skrak. During World War II, she did her part in the war effort by working at A.C. Gilbert Co. Later, she worked at the Hosp. of St. Raphael until her retirement. Mary was a very private person, genuinely shy around people. She loved her family and her God. We all remember her special maple walnut cake. She is survived by 2 daughters, Edith Gadar Carbone of Hamden, formerly of Woodbridge & Barbara Bowe; 4 cherished grandchildren, Nadine Kulenski of Oxford, Stanley (Heather) Kulenski of Cheshire, Atty. Robert F. Carbone Jr. of Bakersfield, CA, and Danielle Carbone (John Montecucco) of Vashon Island, WA.; 5 great grandchildren, Ariel, Elisabeth, Sarah, Bobby & Tyler, all of whom will miss her. She was predeceased by a brother, John Skrak & a sister, Elizabeth Skrak.
Friends are invited to attend funeral services in The Celentano Funeral Home, 424 Elm St. (cor. Dwight) New Haven Friday morning at 11:00. Calling hour one hour prior from 10 to 11 AM. Interment in Evergreen Cemetery. GILIO, THERESA

Theresa Delfini Gilio, 90, of Helen St., Hamden, passed away peacefully on May 2, 2007 in Yale New Haven Hospital. She was the widow of Michael Gilio. Born in New Haven March 16, 1917, she was the daughter of the late Hugo & Adelusia Delfini. A graduate of the old Commercial High School, she worked, for a time, at the former Coan & Bunnell Insurance Agency. She is survived by a son, Dr. Michael J. Gilio of Hamden; a niece, Donna Ely and 2 nephews, Kenneth A. & Dr. Ronald H. Delfini, all of Branford; as well as grand nieces & nephews and great grand nieces & nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Dr. A. Peter Delfini.

Barbara A. Harvey, 50, formerly of 1187 Campbell Ave., West Haven, died April 7, 2007 in Waters Edge Health Center, Middletown. Born in New Haven Oct 25, 1956, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Anna Zanni Harvey. She worked as a librarian for the New Haven Public Library prior to retirement. She is survived by a brother, Thomas Harvey of Milford. Predeceased by her twin sister, Mary Ella Harvey.

WILLMOTT, DORIS

Doris Torgerson Willmott, 93, of 16 Gerrish Ave., East Haven, passed away April 7, 2007 in Regency House, Wallingford. She was the widow of George Willmott. Mrs. Willmott, daughter of the late Henry W. & Jennie Fairchild Torgerson, was born in New Haven March 27, 1914. From the 1930’s thru the 1950’s, she and her husband operated Willmott’s Bake Shop on Newhall St. in New Haven. More recently, she worked as secretary for the former A. James Bruno Investigative Services until her retirement. She was an active member of Dunbar Congregational Church. She is survived by a son, Curtis Willmott of East Haven; a daughter, Pamela Standish of East Haven; a brother, Henry W. Torgerson Jr. of Guilford; 5 grandchildren, Michael Willmott, Diane Waldron, Donna Putzel, Brian & Kimberly Standish and 6 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by 2 brothers, Harry & Leverett Torgerson and 2 sisters, Norma Contois & Janis E. Durante.

HASSAN, SADIE
April 5, 2007
Sadie Joseph Hassan 97, of 449 Central Ave, New Haven, passed away April 5, 2007 in St. Raphael’s Hospital. Mrs. Hassan was born in Adams, MA. Jan 6, 1910, daughter of the late William & Mary Joseph. She went to school in Waterbury and, in 1933, married the late Maharib “Mike” Hassan and moved to New Haven. She was very active in charitable work, was president of the Syrian & Lebanon Society of New Haven; and was an honorary member of the Maassir Lebanese American Charitable Society of Waterbury. She had been a parishioner of St. Aedan’s Church in New Haven since 1971.She will be especially missed by her many, many loved and loyal friends. She is survived by a daughter, Lila (Andrew) Barbara of Branford; 2 sons, Fouad “Fred” (Nancy Hassan of Guilford & Norman (Anna) Hassan of Simsbury; a sister, Emily Gissubel of Port St. Lucie, FL.; 4 grandchildren, Leslie (Bruce) Wank of Littleton, CO., Michael (Nancy) Hassan of Cheshire, Hollie Hassan of Branford & Karolina Hassan of Simsbury; and 5 great grandchildren, Macauley & Riley Wank, Lauren & Sara Hassan and Kailey Hassan-Wolf. Also survived by her extended family of 4 step grandchildren, Dianne (Michael) Villecco, Andrew (Michelle) Barbara, Sally Ann (Albert) Michaud & Norbert Dudzic; 5 step great grandchildren, Drew & Christopher Barbara, Michael & Nicholas Villecco & Janelle Michaud; several nieces, nephews, grand nieces & nephews, loving friends and her caretaker, Grace. She was predeceased by 2 brothers, William & George Joseph and 2 sisters, Nancy Joseph Minardi & Freda Joseph Ruocco.

Yolanda Annunziata, 80, of 20 Southwick Court, Cheshire passed away April 4, 2007 in The CT. Hospice, Branford. Born in New Haven Dec. 26, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Joseph & Jessie Cavallaro Annunziata. She attended New Haven area schools and was a resident of Orange and Cheshire for many years. She began her career as a legal secretary at the law offices of her brother, Atty. Albert R. Annunziata. She continued working in this field while living in Los Angeles. She is survived by a sister, Gina Marie Kersten of LaCosta, CA.; 3 brothers, Albert R. (Karen) Annunziata of Woodbridge, Edward C. (Adelaide) Annunziata of North Haven and Joseph W. (Rosemarie) Annunziata of Fairfax, VA.; 3 nephews, Thomas, Albert & Joseph and 5 nieces, Elise, Catherine, Christine, Elizabeth and Karen. She was predeceased by a sister, Rose M. Annunziata and a brother in law, Norman E. Kersten.

Rose Castiline Muolo, 92, formerly of 10 Hard St. and 117 Fountain St., New Haven died April 1, 2007 in The Arden House, Hamden. She was the widow of Rocco Muolo. Mrs. Muolo was born in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. in 1914, daughter of the late John and Primitiva Guandalini Castiline. She lived in New Haven most of her life. She was a parishioner of St. Aedan’s and the former St. John the Evangelist Church. She is survived by a son, John L. Muolo of Delray Beach, FL.; a daughter, Barbara Potenziani of Hamden; a sister, Louise Masi of New Haven; 9 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son, Grazio F. “Rocky” Muolo; 2 brothers, Theodore & John Castiline; and 5 sisters, Josephine Wordie, Mary Carbutti, Lucille Murphy, Anna DeFranco & Edith Castiline. LUCHETTI, LUKE
March 25, 2007
Lucas R. “Luke” Luchetti, 86, formerly of 311 Eastern St., New Haven, passed away March 25, 2007 in the Jewish Home for the Aged. Born in New Haven in October 1920, he was the son of the late Nicholas & Domenica Quarta Luchetti. A record breaking athlete, he won a scholarship to Cheshire Academy, attended UConn and, later served in the US Army. A well known baritone, he sang at the Metropolitan Opera House in New York City before joining the Milton Berle Nite Club Review. He owned and operated the Pinebrook Dinner Theatre in Higganum and produced shows for the Strand and Terra Mar Dinner Theatres. He is survived by a sister, Rose Gherardi of Hamden and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Mary DeMaio and 2 brothers, Michael and Gabriel Dante Luchetti. Friends are invited to attend a Memorial Mass of Christian Burial in St. Therese Church, 555 Middletown Ave., North Haven Saturday morning at 10:00. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery. Arrangements are in care of The Celentano Funeral Home, New Haven.

HARITOS, ELLEN
March 24, 2007
Ellen Caloutas Haritos, 79, of 35 Parker Place, New Haven, died March 24, 2007 in the CT Hospice. She was the widow of Thomas (Athanasios) Haritos. She was born June 6, 1927 in Tinos Greece, daughter of the late Constantine & Marietta Caloutas. She was decorated by the Greek government for her service in the Greek resistance during the World War II Nazi occupation of Greece. She later attended St. Basil’s Academy in Garrison, NY where she studied to be a teacher. Ellen can be best remembered by her nightly walks to her beloved seawall in Morris Cove. She is survived by 2 sons, Steve (Jane) Haritos of Guilford & George Haritos of New Haven; and a daughter, Marlene Haritos of New Haven.
Friends are invited to attend funeral services in St. Barbara Greek Orthodox Church, 480 Racebrook Rd., Orange Wednesday at 10:30 AM. Interment will follow in Beaverdale. Clara Conte Miranda, 86, of 44 Maplevale Rd., East Haven, passed away March 22, 2007 in St. Raphael’s Hospital. She was the devoted wife of 62 years to Guy Miranda. Mrs. Miranda was born in New Haven May 9, 1920, daughter of the late John & Catherine Spina Conte. Beside her husband, she is survived by 3 sons, Pasquale (Maryann) Miranda of San Diego, CA., Robert (Linda) Miranda of Valencia, CA. & Richard (Kathy) Miranda of Hamden; a daughter, Florence Gail (Al) Williamson of East Haven; a sister, Helen (Howell) Harris of Branford; 7 grandchildren, Melissa (Eric) McDonald, Joseph & Miranda Barraco, Lisa (Paul) Intravia, Elizabeth, Clare & Maria Miranda; a great grandson, Anthony Miranda; a cousin, Anthony Muro and many loving nieces & nephews. She was predeceased by 5 brothers, Dr. Mario G. Conte, Salvatore, Frank, Vincent (Charles) & Albert Conte; and 3 sisters, Elizabeth DePhillips, Vera DeTullio & Angela (Julia) Pecoraro. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
