JONES, ANDEW B.
February 16, 2007
Andrew Brian Jones, beloved husband of Teresa Santos Jones, died suddenly February 16, 2007 at the Hospital of St. Raphael.
Born in Waterbury, January 16, 1945, he was the son of the late Arthur & Adeline (Jensen) Jones.
He also leaves behind two brothers, Arthur Jones & his wife, Phyllis, of Wolcott and Sidney Jones of Norwich, a niece, Heather Jones of Connecticut, two nephews, Kevin Bock of Georgia and Richard Bock of Connecticut and a host of friends.
A memorial service will be held at Living Word Ministries, 225 Meloy Road, West Haven on Saturday, February 24th at 11:00 a.m. to honor Andrew’s life.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Living Word Ministries.
Arrangements are in care of The Celentano Funeral Home, New Haven

NICOLAS, EUGENIA
February 11, 2007
Eugenia (Jean) Nicolas, 91, formerly of 1897 Shepard Ave., Hamden, passed away Feb. 11, 2007 in St. Raphael’s Hospital. She was the widow of James Nicolas. Mrs. Nicolas was born in New York City July 20, 1915. She was a graduate of the Greek American Institute and made several broadcasts to Greece during World War II via The Voice of America. She also conducted a weekly Greek radio program until 1955, when she and her family moved to Connecticut. In 1965, she and her husband purchased The Sanford Barn in Hamden and operated it until their retirement in 1973. Very active in social, ethnic and Church related projects, she was past president of the Ladies Philoptochos Society of the Greek Orthodox Church of St. Barbara. She is survived by a daughter & son in law, Valentina & Konstantine Kostas of Wallingford; 3 grandchildren, Gary (Christina) Marks, Demetrios Kostas and Andrew (Jennifer) Kostas; and 2 great grandchildren, Gabrielle Marks & Christopher Kostas, all of Wallingford. She was predeceased by a brother, Pericles (Perry) Cambs & a sister, Catherine Salomon.
Friends are invited to attend funeral services in St. Barbara Greek Orthodox Church, 480 Racebrook Rd., Orange Thursday morning at 10:30. Interment will follow in Beaverdale. Contributions may be made to St Barbara Church Building Fund or the Ladies Philoptochos Society. Arrangements are in care of The Celentano Funeral Home, New Haven.

CARRINGTON, RICHARD F.
February 10, 2007
Officer Richard F. Carrington, NHPD (ret.) of Circular Ave., Hamden, passed away Feb. 10, 2007 in St. Raphael’s Hospital after a brief illness. He was the husband of Bernice Carrington. Born in New York City Dec. 25, 1948, he was the son of the late James Carrington and Gloria Yvonne Katto Sheppard. He was a New Have Police officer for 28 years prior to his retirement and was a member of the Silver Shields. He served as a sergeant in the US Air Force in the Vietnam Era. Beside his wife, he is survived by 2 step sons, Gerald (Vivian) Martin Jr. of Hamden & S/Sgt Timothy (Sonji) Martin, US Army, stationed in Texas; a daughter, Cheesa (Rodney) Gatison Carrington of Meriden; and 6 grandchildren, Terrill, Brandon, Mariah, Rodney, Aubrey & Brice. Also survived by a cousin, Alice Baker of NY.
Friends may call at The Celentano Funeral Home, 424 Elm St. (cor. Dwight) New Haven, Thursday from 4 to 8 PM and are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Aedan’s Church Friday morning at 10:00 AM. Interment, with Military Honors, in Beaverdale.

NECKLAS, GEORGE J.
February 8, 2007
George J. Necklas, 86, of 11 Wildwood Drive, Branford, passed away Feb. 8, 2007 in Branford Hills Health Care. He was the beloved husband of Georgia “Babe” Loulis Necklas. Mr. Necklas was born in New Haven July 12, 1920, son of the late John G. and Anastasia Papademetriou Necklas. In association with his brother, he operated Necklas Restaurant on Orange St. in downtown New Haven for 53 years prior to his retirement in 1988. He served as a corporal in the US Marine Corps in the Pacific during World War II. He was an active member of St Barbara Greek Orthodox Church and the Odyssey Committee, and was a member of Chapter 98, Order of AHEPA. Beside his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Barbara J. Necklas of Branford; 2 sons, Michael J. (Antoinette) Necklas of Guilford & Socrates G. (Elaine) Necklas of East Haven; 3 grandchildren, Nicole, Christopher & Gabriella; and 2 sisters in law, Joanne Necklas & Olga Bungeely. He was predeceased by 3 brothers, Peter, James & Michael Necklas and a sister, Mary Bougiouris.

FOSTER, CHRISTINA E.

Christina Elizabeth Foster, 42, of 1730 State St., Hamden passed away suddenly Feb. 6, 2007. Born in New Haven July 12, 1964, she was the beloved daughter of Janice C. Adams Foster of Hamden & the late Willie Burke Foster. Miss Foster was a graduate of Hamden High School and worked in the financial banking industry in New York & Connecticut. She had a passion for music, singing and animal rescue. Beside her mother, she is survived by a sister, Deborah Ann Foster of Hamden; 5 brothers, New Haven firefighter Jeffrey A. (Deborah Fasci) Foster of Cheshire, Gerald W., Robert L. & Johnathan T. Foster, all of Hamden and Leonard V. Foster of New Haven; a nephew, Kyle A. Fasci and a host of relatives & friends. She was predeceased by a brother, Willie B. Foster Jr. and her grandparents, Elizabeth & Robert S. Adams, Rosa Foster & Willie Patridge.

Mary Raffay Romano, 99, of 28 Pine Needle Drive, Shelton, passed away Feb. 4, 2007 in Hewitt Memorial, Shelton. She was the widow of Ernest Romano and was a former resident of 343 Alden Ave., New Haven, Mrs. Romano was born in New Haven June 19, 1907, daughter of the late Peter & Anna Raffay. She is survived by 3 nieces, Joanne Atkinson of Shelton, Jill Walker in Florida and Annette Occhiopinto of West Haven; and several great nieces & nephews.

CANDELORA, MARGARET
January 28, 2007
Margaret Palmieri Candelora, 78, of 1 Mountain Ridge Terr., New Haven, passed away peacefully at The Connecticut Hospice on Jan. 28, 2007. She was the wife of Biaggio Candelora of East Haven. Mrs. Candelora was born in Shelton Feb. 21, 1928, daughter of the late Francesco & Elizabeth Onofrio Palmieri. She worked as a private duty nurse and worked at the Jewish Home for the Aged for 10 years prior to her retirement in 1975. She is survived by 4 daughters, Cynthia Kunst of Madison, Bonnie Candelora of Meriden, Debbie Candelora & Sandra Handy, both of New Haven; a brother, Frank Palmieri of East Haven; 3 sisters, Mary Giordano of North Haven, Jean Gilbert of West Haven & Gloria Palmieri of East Haven; 8 grandchildren, Alison, Kimberly & Robert Candelora, Becky Roselle, Heidi & Albert Kunst, Steven Handy & Gina Caruso; and 12 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by 2 sisters, Frances Howard & Vincenza Karpel and 1 great grandchild.

Lucy L. Morro Criscuolo, 95, of 197 Henry St., East Haven passed away peacefully at home on Jan. 26, 2007, surrounded by her loved ones. She was the widow of Joseph S. “Pep” Criscuolo. Mrs. Criscuolo was born in New Haven May 14, 1911, daughter of the late Ferdinando (Fred) and Maria D’Antonio Morro. A long time parishioner of St. Clare’s Church, she was a member of the Ladies Guild and the Ste. Anne deBeaupre Society. She is survived by 2 daughters, Marie (Anthony) Amendola & Lena (Andrew) Munz, both of East Haven; 3 brothers, Anthony Morro of East Haven, Fred Morro of North Haven & James Morro in Florida; 2 sisters, Patricia Merola of East Haven & Mary Rolley in Kentucky; and a sister in law, Frances Piscitelli of New Haven. Also survived by her devoted granddaughter, Rachel Amendola; grandchildren Linda, Joseph & John Criscuolo, great grandchildren Vincent & Joseph Criscuolo III and several nieces & nephews. She was predeceased by her beloved son, Joey Criscuolo; 2 brothers, Clarles (Red) & Joseph Morro and a sister, Geda Mezzetta.

MONACO, ETTA
January 22, 2007
Etta Esposito Monaco, 85, of 98 No. Atwater St., a 59 year resident of East Haven, passed away Jan. 22, 2007 in Vitas Hospice, Aventura, FL. She was the beloved wife of the late Deacon Daniel G. Monaco. Mrs. Monaco was born in New Haven July 10, 1921, daughter of the late Joseph A. and Louise Luzzi Esposito. Her father served as Republican alderman of the old 12th Ward. Mrs. Monaco was a 1942 graduate of Grace New Haven School of Nursing. Her career ranged from hospital and private duty nursing to 25 years as a school nurse in the East Haven School System for the shoreline elementary schools. Etta loved and cared for people. She lovingly touched the lives of many children who shared their love in return. She volunteered at The Connecticut Hospice and the soup kitchen. She was a winter resident of Hallandale Beach, FL., was a member of the New Haven Woman’s Club and participated regularly in aerobics. She is survived by 2 sons, Eugene D. (Linda) Monaco of East Haven and Daniel J. (Deborah) Monaco of North Haven; a daughter, Roberta Simmons and her husband, Hon. Timothy Simmons of Colorado Springs; and a brother, Vincent R. (Clara) Esposito of Arlington, MA. and the late PFC Eugene F. Esposito. Also survived by 5 grandchildren, Timothy (AnaPaula) Simmons, Mark (Kellie) Simmons, Kim (Ian) Johnson, Airman 1st Class Chris Keefer & Stuart Keefer; beloved great grandchildren, Quinn, Daniel, Mariana & Eric; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives & friends.

Henry F. Esposito, 88, of 37 Alfred St., New Haven, died Jan. 11, 2007 in St. Raphael’s Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Mildred Proto Esposito for 68 years. Born in New Haven on Dec. 7, 1918, he was the son of the late Giro & Rose Ventura Esposito. Mr. Esposito operated Henry’s Market at Lloyd & Exchange St. in Fair Haven for more than 30 years. He was past president of Annex Y.M.A. and East Shore Senior Citizens and called Bingo at Annex Y.M.A. Beside his wife, he is survived by a son, Giro D. (Rae) Esposito of New Haven; 3 daughters, Rosann Flanagan & Jessie Delecke, both of New Haven and Donna (Tony) Galardi of Hamden; 2 brothers, John and Giro Esposito Jr., both of North Haven; a sister, Frances Carusone of East Haven; 13 grandchildren & 17 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by a grand daughter, Theresa Esposito; 2 brothers, Anthony & Salvatore Esposito and a sister, Elizabeth Greco.

GIEGENGACK, RICHARD A.
January 11, 2007
Richard Augustus Giegengack, 65, a professional architect in Washington, died of cancer in the Washington Home and Community Hospice on January 11, 2007.Richard was born in New York City, graduated from Portsmouth Abbey in Portsmouth, RI, and received a B.A. (1963) and M. Arch. (1968) from Yale University. He is the son of Robert Giegengack, coach of track and field at Yale University from 1945 until 1975 and Olympic Coach at Melbourne and Tokyo, and Lucie Dowling Giegengack. Richard is a nephew of Augustus E. Giegengack, Public Printer of the United States from 1934 until 1948.
Richard worked for ICON Architects in Washington and for Peter J. B. Vercelli ARIBA in New Haven, CT, before joining the Washington office of Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM) in 1973. During his tenure with SOM he also worked in the firm's New York office and served as a design partner at the SOM office in London. Richard was responsible for the design of a number of important projects in the northeast:
The Northeast Corridor Improvement Project, which included major renovations and restorations of eight National Landmark railroad stations between Boston and Washington, and the design and construction of the entirely new railroad station in Providence.
The 1976 Bicentennial Master Plan for the Washington Mall and Constitution Gardens.
The J. P. Morgan Hotel and Conference Center, Hartford, CT.
The Trinity College Landscape Master Plan, Hartford, CT.
Since 1993 Richard has practiced out of his own architectural firm in Washington. He was responsible for the restoration of Camp Topridge, a historic Great Camp in the Adirondacks, and for the design of other private residences.
Richard's family and friends will gather on Wednesday, January 17, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the De Vol Funeral Home, 2222 Wisconsin Ave., NW, in Washington.
Richard's life will be celebrated in a Mass of Christian Burial at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Georgetown, District of Columbia, on Thursday, January 18. Richard will be buried at St. Lawrence Cemetery in West Haven, CT, after an interment ceremony at St. Thomas More Chapel at Yale University at 11:00 AM on Friday, January 19.
Richard is survived by four sisters: Lucie Teegarden, of Brunswick, ME; Mary Jureller, of Syracuse, NY; Jane White, of Bronxville, NY; and Anne Giegengack, of Syracuse, NY; and two brothers: Robert Jr., of Wallingford, PA; and Edward, of Bridgeport, CT. Richard will be missed by many devoted friends.
