In USVAMC, West Haven, March 14, 2006, Paul J. Botte, 91, of East Haven. Husband of the late Mary Laurie Botte. Born in New Haven, Oct 1, 1914, he was the son of the late Joseph & Alfonsina Botte. A long time driver for CT. Transit, he operated both trolleys and transit buses until his retirement. Along with his 3 brothers, he served in the military during World War II. He was a Staff Sergeant with the 3rd Infantry Division in the European War Theater. He is survived by a sister, Viola Botte Cervero of Milford and several nieces & nephews. He was predeceased by 3 brothers, Joseph, Edward & Ralph Botte and 2 sisters, Jean Polio & Phyllis Trotta.
Funeral from The Celentano Funeral Home, 424 Elm St. (cor. Dwight) New Haven Thursday morning at 9:20. Mass in St. Clare’s Church, Coe Ave., East Haven at 10:00. Friends may call prior to the funeral from 8:30 to 9:20. Interment in Beaverdale Memorial Park. George Sarosi, 62, of 560 Main St., West Haven, died March 9, 2006 in Yale New Haven Hospital. He was born in Hungary June 9, 1943. He worked as an electronic technician for the former Milford Semi Conductor Co. He is survived by a brother, Laszlo Sarosi in Hungary and many friends including Laszlo Maraczi of Orange & Clifford D. Fritzell, Esq. of North Haven.

Paul Montemurno, 89, of New Haven passed into eternal rest March 8, 2006 in St. Raphael’s Hospital. He was a resident of Sr. Ann Virginie Grimes Health Care Center for the past 2 years. He was the devoted husband of Rosa Clemente Montemurno. He was born in New York on Dec. 4, 1916 and was employed by the US Postal Service in New York for over 38 years. He served in the US Army during World War II and received the American Campaign Medal, EAME Campaign Medal & WW II Victory Medal. An avid New York Yankees fan, he enjoyed taking his children to games when they were younger. Beside his wife, he is survived by a son, Francis Xavier (Tara) Montemurno of East Haven; 2 daughters, RoseMarie Montemurno of NYC & AnnaMaria Montemurno of New Haven; 3 sisters, Ms. Victoria Mendola of New Haven, Mrs. Angelina Falgiano of NYC & Ms. Josephine Montouri of West Haven; many nieces, nephews, great nieces & nephews. The Montemurno family extends a special Thank You to St. Regis/ Grimes Center & Hosp. of St. Raphael for the excellent care he received.

Sophie E. Cuomo Franco, 87, of Lecanto, FL., formerly of Ferry St., New Haven, died March 7, 2006 in Florida. She was the widow of retired N.H. Public Works Superintendent Peter A. Franco. Mrs. Franco, daughter of the late Raphael & Anna Gamaloni Cuomo, was born in Naples, Italy March 7, 1919. She came to this country as a child and resided in New Haven until 1994, when she moved to Florida. She worked as a seamstress until her retirement in 1982. She loved sewing, crocheting, playing bingo and watching her grandsons play baseball. She is survived by a son, Louis M. (Kathleen) Franco of East Haven; a daughter, Anne B. (Robert) Willis of Lecanto, FL. with whom she resided; 4 brothers, Anthony Cuomo of Hamden, Salvatore Cuomo of Upstate New York, Augustine Cuomo of New Haven & Ralph Cuomo Jr. of Wallingford; 5 sisters, Philomena DeMaio of Pembroke Pines, FL., Dorothy DeMauro, Mary Tondalo & Yolanda Gagliardi, all of North Haven and Agnes Lynch of Wallingford; and 2 grandsons, Robert P & Ryan J. Willis of Lecanto, FL.

Alyce Feslis Cseh, 81, of West Haven, died March 3, 2006 in The CT Hospice, Branford. She was the devoted wife of August “Gus” Cseh for 56 years. Born in New Haven Jan. 30, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Peter & Evelyn Jenetopoulos Feslis. She graduated from the Hospital of St. Raphael School of Nursing in 1946, where she worked as a dedicated nurse until her retirement. She was a parishioner of St. Barbara Greek Orthodox Church and a member of the Ladies Philoptochos Society. Beside her husband, she is survived by two loving sisters, Mary Mento & Helen F. (Herbert) Wachter, both of West Haven. She was surrounded by her godson, Ronald Wachter and many nieces & nephews who cherished her.

CONDIE, JAMES G.

James G. Condie, 83, of 8 Lanphiers Cove Road, Branford passed away peacefully on Nov. 7, 2005 in The Connecticut Hospice, Branford after a brief illness. He was the husband of Marian Rowley Condie. Born in Hartford on May 22, 1922, He was the son of the late James & Ann Chalmers Condie Michael. A product of Newhallville, Jim was a member of the Class of 1940 at Commercial High School. After a brief stint with the New Haven Gas Co. he entered the US Army in 1943. He was assigned to Headquarters Command for the European Theatre of Operations under Gen. Dwight D. Eisenhower. After the war, he attended American Academy of Embalming & Sanitary Science in New York and became a licensed embalmer on July 1, 1948. He was associated with the Celentano Funeral Home as an embalmer & funeral director for more than fifty years. On June 7, 2001, he received a plaque from The Connecticut Funeral Directors Association honoring him for 50 years in funeral service. Jim was a lifelong member of Old Stone Church where he was active on numerous committees. He was Past Master of Momauguin Lodge No. 138, A.F. & A.M. (1968) and a member of American Legion Post No. 89 and the East Haven Stoners.
Beside his wife, he is survived by a son, David J. (Susan) Condie of Wallingford; 3 daughters, Diane (Eric) Malchodi of Apple Valley, MN., Margaret (Kevin) Casey of San Antonio, TX. & Linda (Michael) Laucella of Branford; 5 grandchildren, Kathleen & Kevin Casey Jr., William & Erica Malcholi & Kelsey Laucella. He was predeceased by his step father, Guy Michael.

CELENTANO, ELLEN L.

Ellen L. Celentano, 94, of 675 Townsend Ave., New Haven, died peacefully on July 17, 2005 in St. Raphael’s Hospital. Miss Celentano was born in New Haven on March 28, 1911, daughter of the late Francesco and Antoinette DeMartino Celentano. She graduated from Hillhouse High School in 1929 & New Haven Normal School in 1931. She completed additional studies at Albertus Magnus, Yale Music School & the Hartt School of Music. She received her Bachelor of Science & Master’s Degrees from New York University. She was a teacher in the New Haven Public School System for 40 years, from 1935 to 1975. During her career, she taught at Lovell School, Fair Haven Jr. High, Troup Jr. High, Hillhouse & Wilbur Cross High Schools. She taught art, foreign languages, general science & biology. She was assistant and music director of the Summer Playground Schools that presented many historical pageants on the New Haven Green in the summer during the 1950’s & 1960’s. She also assisted as a staff member of the Evening Recreational Schools at Atwater & Trowbridge Centers. She directed Glee Clubs & Ball Room Dancing and produced and directed many musical productions in the New Haven School System. During her years at Hillhouse, she escorted 50 students twice a year to the Metropolitan Opera in conjunction with The Opera Guild. She also worked with The New Haven Lions Club in coordinating musical programs for the Sight Saving Fund involving as many as 1, 000 students. She served on the “Harvest Festival Committee” producing elaborate pageants during halftime at the Harvest Festival Football Games in Yale Bowl. She directed both the Hillhouse and Wilbur Cross Bands in numerous parades & concerts. She chaired choral festivals at Woolsey Hall including all area high schools. She was president of the former New Haven Women’s Choral Society, a life member of the New Haven County Retired Teacher’s Association, and a member of St. Rita’s Church Senior Choir, National Retired Teacher’s Association, the Mayor’s Columbus Day Committee as well as the Columbus Day Parade and St. Patrick’s Day Parade Committees, organizing student participation in these events. On the occasion of her retirement in 1975, she received an Award of Merit from the Board of Education citing her many years of service devoted to the welfare of the children in the New Haven Public School System. After retirement, she became a volunteer with the Hospital of St. Raphael Auxiliary. Miss Celentano will be remembered for her quick wit, sense of humor and keen mind which she retained until the end, thanks in large measure to her loyal and devoted caregivers. She was predeceased by her 3 brothers, Dr. Luca E.H. Celentano, former Mayor William C. Celentano and Atty. Alfred F. Celentano and a sister, Adelaide G. Celentano, former deputy clerk of the Federal Court in New Haven. She is survived by a niece, Joyce Celentano Moran of Norwalk; a nephew, William C. Celentano Jr. of New Haven; 6 great nephews, 1 great niece and 10 great great nieces & nephews.

Mary Chaltas Perfetto, 78, of 203 Karen Drive, Orange, died Jan. 29, 2008 at her home. Born in New Haven Nov. 7, 1929, she was the daughter of the late George & Alexandra Apostolidis Chaltas. She attended New Haven schools and was a graduate of Texas Women’s University. She was a medical research technologist at the Veterans Administration Hospital in West Haven until her retirement in 1991. She is survived by her beloved husband, Andrew Perfetto; 2 sons, John Perfetto of Woodbridge & Andrew Perfetto of Redwood City, CA.; 3 brothers, Paul G. Chaltas of East Falmouth, MA., John G. Chaltas of England and Basil G. Chaltas of Branford; and several nieces & nephews. She was predeceased by a sister, Sophia Chaltas & a brother, Nicholas G. Chaltas.

Florence Russo Morro, 84, of 38 Belvedere Road, North Haven, passed away Jan. 26, 2008 in The CT Hospice, Branford. She is survived by her devoted husband, Frederick Morro. Born in New Haven Dec. 28, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Salvatore & Josephine Criscio Russo. At various times, she worked as a book keeper for Seamless Rubber, Cott Beverages and City Printing until retirement 24 years ago. She acted as a Junior Achievement moderator, was an avid sports fan, quilter & traveler. At one time, she was active with St. Donato’s Parish Children of Mary. Besides her husband, she is survived her loving children, Anthony (Lois) Nargi of North Haven and Laura (Robert) Cretella of Madison; brothers, Ralph Russo of West Haven & Salvatore Russo of Woodbridge; sisters, Rose Paturzo of North Haven & Josephine (Tina) Torino of Lake Worth, FL.; and 4 grandchildren, Jennifer & Heather Cretella, Alyssa & Keith Nargi. She was predeceased by a brother, Pasquale Russo.

Vincenza (Jennie) Siracusa Panaroni, 102, formerly of 53 Frank St., New Haven, passed away Jan. 25, 2008 in Harborside Arden House. She was the widow of John Panaroni. Mrs. Panaroni was born in Caltavuturo, Palermo, Sicily on March 5, 1905, daughter of the late Liborio & Vincenza Federico Siracusa. She worked in the Bindery Dept. at the former S.Z. Field Printing Co. for 45 years prior to retirement. She is survived by a son, John C. (Micki) Panaroni of West Haven; a niece, Anne Vivian (Ken) Tullo; nephews, Joseph (Carol) Mongillo, Dr. Joseph (Marie) Siracuse, Lee Siracuse, Dr. Arthur (Mickey) DeLucia & John (Joanne) DeLucia. She was predeceased by 2 brothers, Joseph W. & Salvatore Suracusa and 2 sisters, Josephine Mongillo & Anna DeLucia.
