JENNETTE, DENNIS J.
January 19, 2008

Dennis J. Jennette, 51, of 326 Shelton Ave., New Haven, passed away in CT Hospice, Branford Jan. 19, 2008.
Born in New Haven March 7, 1956, he was the son of Bernice Jennette of New Haven & the late Frank Jennette.
Besides his mother, he is survived by a brother, Daniel Jennette of Cheshire; a sister, Linda Pullen of New Haven and several nieces & nephews.
He was predeceased by a brother, John Jennette.
Friends may call at The Celentano Funeral Home, 424 Elm St. (cor. Dwight) New Haven Wednesday from 6 to 8 PM and are invited to attend funeral services in the funeral home Thursday, Jan. 24th at 10:00 AM.
Interment in Evergreen Cemetery.

HUSSEY, MARY
January 16, 2008

Mary DellaCamera Bruno Hussey, 95, of 218 Sandquist Circle, Hamden died at home Jan. 16, 2008.
She was the wife of the late Francis J. Hussey.
Mrs. Hussey was born in New Haven July 17, 1912, daughter of the late Fabian & Fortunata Perretta Della Camera.
Thru the years, she worked at Goodyear Rubber and A.C. Gilbert Co. and, at the time of her retirement, was employed by Warner Lambert (Schick) in Milford.
She was a charter member of Columbiettes – Fr. Charles Kavanaugh Auxiliary.
She is survived by 4 daughters, Mary Lou Mauri of Hamden, Christina “Tina” (Joseph) Palumbo of Boynton Beach, FL., Barbara (Peter) Cassesse of Hamden and Patricia (Kenneth) Galvin of Litchfield; 9 grandchildren & 11 great grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her first husband, John Bruno; 6 brothers, Frank, Ralph, Charles, John, Anthony & Dominic Della Camera; a sister, Rose Prochilo; her son in law, Leo Mauri and a great granddaughter, Brittany Camerone.
Funeral from The Celentano Funeral Home, 424 Elm St. (cor. Dwight), New Haven, Monday at 10:15 AM.
Mass of Christian Burial in Our Lady of Pompeii Church at 11:00.
Friends may call at the funeral home Sunday from 3 to 7 PM.
Interment in St. Lawrence Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Conn. Hospice, 100 Double Beach Rd., Branford, CT 06405 or Our Lady of Pompeii Church, 355 Foxon Rd, East Haven, CT 06513-2099.

HARDER, JOHN F.
January 16, 2008

John F. Harder, 91, of 200 Leeder Hill Drive, Hamden, passed away Jan. 16, 2007 after a brief illness.
He was the beloved husband of Lucille Esposito Harder.
Born in Milford Dec. 23, 1916, he was the son of the late Alfred J. & Marion Gebhardt Harder, and the stepson of Helen Duggan Harder.
Mr. Harder had a long career in the field of public welfare in New York & Connecticut.
From the early 1950’s until his retirement in the 1980’s, he served at many levels of administration, including Deputy Commissioner and Commissioner of Welfare during the administrations of Governors Abraham A. Ribicoff and John Dempsey, and was District Director of the New Haven Office, Dept. of Income Maintenance when he retired.
He was active in various community agencies as a volunteer and member of a number of boards and advisory committees, including Child & Family Services, So. Central CT. Chapter of American Red Cross, United Ways of Bridgeport & New Haven, and Friends of the New Haven Public Library.
After graduation from Holy Cross College in 1937, he returned to New Haven to begin his working life at the Department of Charities.
In 1939, he joined the Connecticut National Guard, 208th Coast Artillery, just before the outbreak of World War II.
In 1943, while serving in the South Pacific, he was commissioned a lieutenant in the US Army, 209th Antiaircraft Artillery.
After the war, he entered graduate school under the GI bill and earned a Master of Arts degree from the School of Social Service Administration at the University of Chicago.
He married the former Lucille Esposito in August 1945 with whom he raised 4 sons, Michael J. Harder of New Haven, Peter J. Harder of Nice, France, Christopher M. Harder of Santa Cruz, CA. & James Harder of Brecksville, OH.
He was a grandfather of 6 boys: Matthew, Stephen, Joshua, Loic, Christopher Ian and Eric; and great grandfather of 5 children: Braeden James, Kealey Lauren, John Peter, Monroe Olivia & Keaton Avery.
He did dishes and changed diapers for decades.
He quoted Winnie-the-Pooh at the most appropriate times.
Whenever he was needed by a friend, he could usually be found in Hundred Acre Wood, sitting back to back with one grandson or another, having a little something together.
Also surviving are 3 sisters, Cecily Kikukawa of Hawaii, Jean Harder of PA. and Monica Kelly of FL.
He was predeceased by a sister, Joan Harder, formerly of Southbury.
A long time parishioner of St. Bernadette’s Church in Morris Cove, Mr. Harder lived the last 4 years of his life at Whitney Center and attended Blessed Sacrament Church. At Whitney Center, he was an active member of the community, and was particularly involved with the film society.
Friends may call at The Celentano Funeral Home, 424 Elm St. (cor. Dwight), New Haven Monday, Jan 21st from 3 to 6 PM. And are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial in Blessed Sacrament Church, 321 Circular Ave., Hamden Tuesday morning at 10:00.
Interment in Evergreen Cemetery, New Haven.

GANCY, ALAN B.
January 14, 2008

Dr. Alan Brian Gancy, Chemist and American Inventor, passed on is our beloved, January 14, 2008, born of the late Mr. & Mrs. Julius J. Gancy, (Esther DeCapua) of West Haven, CT after a short illness.
Dr. Gancy was the son of European born immigrants who resided in Connecticut.
He attended Trinity College in undergraduate studies, where he received a B.S. in Chemistry, as well as being the president of the Trinity Chemistry Club, and a member of the Tao Alpha Fraternity.
He later attended Yale University, where he earned academic honors and a M.S. degree in Physical Chemistry. He continued his education at Yale, until he received his PhD in 1956.
He then worked as the Director of Chemistry for Allied Chemical Corporation, until he founded his own corporation, Gancy Chemical Corporation of Baldwinsville, NY.
Along with his many academic achievements, he was listed in ‘American Men of Science’ and chosen for publication in “Who’s Who in Science” and later in: “Who’s who of American Inventors”. He was awarded a high science achievement documented in “American Inventors” and in 1958, was elected to “American Men of Science” More than thirty published scientific works have been attributed to him, as well as private and personal publications of his research.
He is listed as an inventor, having accomplished more than 76 US and International Patents, some which were related to top secret government programs, Navy, Army, and the Office of Saline Water.
He was noted for his work on ’The Manhattan Project.’
In 1970, Alan was Director of Research for Allied Chemical Corporation.
He continued his education and earned an MBA from Syracuse University in 1980, while working as an Associate Professor for the School of Management.
He also taught chemistry at Onondaga Community College.
He studied operatic voice with Robin Eaton at The Metropolitan School for the Arts, and later joined the Syracuse Opera, appearing in ‘II Trovatore’ and ‘Aida’. He spent several years working in the Syracuse University Oratorio Society.
He survived his only brother, Julius S. Gancy (USAC) WWII, (Maria Louise Paradans). He is left in memory by Arlene V. Ghent (Robert Ghent Esq.) and their children, Robert and Ryan Ghent of New Haven, CT.
His close companion and devoted friend was Robin Eaton, of Syracuse NY.
He leaves nieces: Jacqueline Formica of West Haven, CT, Marilyn McMichael (James McMichael Esq.) of McLean, VA., Sheila Scagnelli, (Mr. David Scagnelli), of Wallingford, CT and Glenda Bouchard of New London CT; their children in fond memory.
A Memorial Service will be held in Battell Chapel, Yale University, Elm and College St., New Haven, on Saturday Feb. 9th at 11:00 AM.
Contributions in Dr. Gancy’s memory may be made to Hamden Hall Inc., Dept of Chemistry, 1108 Whitney Ave., Hamden, CT 06517.
Arrangements are in the care of the Celentano Funeral Home.

ELIASOPH, EUGENE L.
January 5, 2008

Eugene L. Eliasoph died on Saturday, January 5 2008 of heart failure.
Born in Brooklyn in 1925 to Joseph Eliasoph and Paula Rubin Eliasoph, a prominent artist, Eugene (Gene) attended Jamaica High and Queens College.
He was a decorated veteran of World War II who fought in the Battle of the Bulge where he was captured and escaped.
Gene was a gifted psychotherapist.
He received his Masters in Social Work from Columbia and studied at the William Alanson White School and with JL Moreno, an early pioneer of group therapy.
In private practice in New Haven for 40 years, he served on the clinical faculty at the Yale Department of Psychiatry.
Gene was renowned for his work as a group therapist and psychodramatist.
He founded the Psychodrama Institute of New Haven and was President of the American Society of Group Psychotherapy and Psychodrama from 1984-1986.
Hundreds of patients and his trainees will remember him for his skill, creativity and compassion.
Gene was an excellent tennis player and athlete; he was scouted for the New York Giants before the war.
He was an excellent jazz musician, playing clarinet and saxophone at venues from the Borscht Belt to 52nd Street as a young man and continuing in many bands and informal groups until his death.
Gene is survived by his wife Mary Nicholas, who is a psychotherapist in New Haven, and by his daughters Ellen Eliasoph and Nina Eliasoph and their husbands; grandchildren Jade Kasoff, Olivia Lichterman and Leo Eliasoph; sister Janet Kaufman, niece Jeannie Skinner; and nephews-- Philip, Joseph and Scott Eliasoph; and his cousin Julian Eliasoph.
The family welcomes donations to the Neighborhood Music School, 100 Audobon Street, New Haven, CT 06510 and The Southern Poverty Law Center 400 Washington Ave, Montgomery, AL 36104.

BERGER, LUCY GRAVA
December 27, 2007

Lucy Esposito Grava Berger, 85, formerly of 30 Rose St., Branford and 46 Oliver Rd., New Haven, passed away Dec. 27, 2007 in Branford Hills Health Care.
She was the wife of Richard F. Berger.
Mrs. Berger was born in New Haven June 7, 1922, daughter of the late Anthony R. and Chiarina “Katie” Capobianco Esposito.
She worked as a social worker for the State of CT for 10 years prior to retirement in 1972.
Besides her husband, she is survived by 2 sons, William A, Grava Jr. of Derry, N.H. and Paul M. Grava of West Haven; a daughter, Elizabeth Ann Grava Present of Seattle, WA.; a sister, Rose Marie Riccitelli of East Haven; 6 grandchildren & 3 great grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her first husband, William A. Grava and her brother, Salvatore J. Esposito.
Funeral from The Celentano Funeral Home, 424 Elm St. (cor. Dwight), New Haven Thursday, Jan 3rd at 10:15.
Mass of Christian Burial in St. Mary’s Church, Branford, at 11:00. Friends may call Thursday morning, prior to the funeral, from 9:00 to 10:15.
