Diane Swenson

October 4, 2002

Diane Swenson, 57, of Putnam, a Greenwich native, died Wednesday, Oct. 2, at her home.

The cause of death has not been determined yet, according to her family.

Born Jan. 27, 1945, in Greenwich, she was a daughter of Margaret Thunquist Conway of Greenwich and the late Chester Conway.

A resident of Putnam since 1970, Mrs. Swenson worked at several area nursing homes and most recently was a constant care specialist at Day Kimball Hospital.

She was a parishioner of St. Mary Church in Putnam and a volunteer at Day Kimball Hospital.

In addition to her mother, Mrs. Swenson is survived by her husband of 33 years, Robert Swenson of Putnam; two daughters, Jennifer Diehl of Sterling, Mich., and Renee Deveau of Stratford; five brothers, Chester Conway of Greenwich, Jonathan Conway of Wilton, Ronald Conway of White Plains, N.Y., Timothy Conway of Stamford and Christopher Conway of Norwalk; two sisters, Carol Plunkett of Stamford and Maryanne Conway of Greenwich; and a granddaughter.

Mrs. Swenson was predeceased by two brothers, Richard Conway and Gerald Conway; and a sister, June Tutulo.

There will be no calling hours.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Mary Church, 218 Providence St., Putnam. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery in Putnam.

Gilman Funeral Home, 104 Church St., Putnam, is handling the arrangements.

Alicja Baldyga

October 8, 2002

Alicja Janina Baldyga, 50, a Greenwich resident, died Monday, Oct. 7, at home.

She died of cancer, according to her son, Christopher Baldyga of Greenwich.

A homemaker and a native of Poland, Mrs. Baldyga enjoyed helping people who were new to the United States.

Born Feb. 26, 1952, in Warsaw, Poland, she was a daughter of the late Kazimierz and Genowefa Zajac Stepkowski.

In addition to her son, Mrs. Baldyga is survived by her husband, Janusz Baldgya of Greenwich; a daughter, Eva Baldyga of Greenwich; and a sister, Ewa Hlebko of Port Chester, N.Y.

Friends may call from 5 to 9 p.m. tomorrow at the Castiglione Funeral Home, 134 Hamilton Ave., Greenwich.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, 229 Willett Ave., Port Chester.

Burial will be private.

In lieu flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 372 Danbury Road, Wilton, CT 06897.

Carol Beagley, 86,

October 6, 2002

artist and teacher

Carol Kulp Beagley of Stamford, 86, died Sept. 27 at her home.

She died of natural causes, according to her family.

Born Oct. 16, 1915, in Lansing, Mich., she was a daughter of the late Walter L. and Lula Cassler Kulp.

She received her bachelor's degree in 1936 from Wellesley College. After studying at the University of Heidelberg in Germany, she received a master's degree in art history from Yale University.

She married her husband, Bruce E. Beagley Jr., in 1942, and they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in July.

Mrs. Beagley worked as an art history instructor at the University of Connecticut and as an insurance claims adjuster with Liberty Mutual in Boston.

She volunteered as a nurse's assistant during World War II, and for many years with the Darien Community Association's thrift shop. She also served a term of president of the Southern Connecticut Wellesley Club.

Mrs. Beagley was an artist who created oil paintings, woodblock prints, silhouettes and welded sculpture.

She was a member of the Country Club of Darien and the Mid Ocean Club in Tuckers Town, Bermuda, where she and her husband spent winters for the past 20 years.

In addition to her husband, who lives in Stamford, Mrs. Beagley is survived by two sons, Bruce E. Beagley III of Scituate, Mass., and Walter K. Beagley of Alma, Mich.; a daughter, Susan Carol Beagley of Norwalk; five grandchildren; and two step-grandchildren.

No calling hours are planned.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Oct. 19, at First Congregational Church of Darien, 14 Brookside Road, Darien. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Wellesley College, 106 Central St., Wellesley, MA 02481.

The Edward Lawrence Funeral Home in Darien is handling the arrangements.

Dorothy Cleaveland

October 8, 2002

Dorothy Gisborne Cleaveland, 96, a Greenwich resident, died Saturday, Oct. 5, at the Greenwich Woods Health Care Center.

She died of natural causes, according to her family.

In previous years, she resided at Greenwich Mews. She also had lived in New Canaan and on Cape Cod, Mass.

Mrs. Cleaveland studied art with Robert Amick of Old Greenwich and later attended the Silvermine Art Guild in New Canaan. She also studied with Herbert Olsen. She was primarily a watercolor painter, who depicted the outdoor scenes and ships she saw while living on Cape Cod.

She sold many of her works and garnered several awards, including the Emily Burke Award in Hartford and prizes from the Marion Arts Center in Marion, Mass., and the Bourne-Wareham Art Association on Cape Cod. She also was given two one-man shows, one at Orleans Gallery in Orleans, Mass., and another at Grand Central Station in New York City.

She was a member of the Hartford Society of Women Painters, the Silvermine Art Guild in New Canaan, the Marion Arts Center and the Bourne-Wareham Art Association.

She taught art to physically disabled children at the Lakeville Hospital on Cape Cod.

Born Oct. 3, 1906, in Greenwich, she was a daughter of the late George and Florence Hartwright Gisborne. She attended Greenwich High School.

She is survived by a son, Bruce Heusted of Hyde Park, N.Y.; a daughter, Phyllis Palmer of Riverside; and five grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband, Normand C. Cleaveland; and her sister, Lois Robinson.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the First Congregational Church, 108 Sound Beach Ave., Old Greenwich.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Garden Club of Old Greenwich, P.O. Box 448, Old Greenwich, CT 06870.

Burial will be private.

The Leo P. Gallagher & Son Funeral Home, 31 Arch St., Greenwich, is handling the arrangements.

Enrico Frabrizio, 87,

October 12, 2002

dental technician

Enrico Frabrizio, 87, of Southbury, a retired dental technician, died Thursday, Oct. 10, at Danbury Hospital.

He died of multiple myeloma, according to his family.

Born June 4, 1915, in Brooklyn, N.Y., he was the son of the late Mario and Elizabeth Varrichio Frabrizio.

Mr. Frabrizio was a U.S. Army veteran who served in Panama during World War II. He worked as a dental technician and lived in the Riverside section of Greenwich for many years.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Rose Marie Pasquarelli Frabrizio of Southbury; a son, Robert M. Frabrizio of Norwalk; a daughter, Elaine Frabrizio Galletta of Woodbury; a sister, Claudia Frabrizio of Florence, Italy; and three grandchildren.

There are no calling hours.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 14, at St. Teresa of Avila Church, Main Street South, Woodbury.

Burial will be in Willow Brook Cemetery, Westport.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 39 Meriden Road, Waterbury, CT 06705.

Carpino Funeral Home, 750 Main St. South, Southbury, is handling arrangements.
