Karl Scholz, 89
HARTFORD - Karl Scholz, 89, formerly of Ansonia, died Thursday at Chelsea Place Convalescent Home. He was the widower of Mary Wislocki Scholz.
Mr. Scholz was born May 27, 1907, in Ansonia, a son of the late August and Annie Richter Scholz. He was a house painter and worked for Charles Grady Painting Contractor. He was a member of Christ Church, Ansonia. Mr. Scholz is survived by a daughter, Karla Anderson of Cheshire; a sister, Agnes Scholz of Shelton; three grandsons; and a great-grandson. He was predeceased by a brother, Albion Scholz; and sisters, Pauline Berger and Anna Scholz. - Hylwa-Wakelee Memorial Funeral Home, Ansonia

William Solimeno Sr., 81
MILFORD - William J. Solimeno Sr., 81, of 5 Saw Mill Road died Thursday at Laurel Woods Health Care Center, East Haven, after a brief illness. He was the widower of Carmel DeFillippi Solimeno.
A son of the late Peter and Mary Biondi Solimeno, he was born Aug. 14, 1915, in New Haven. He worked for the U.S. Postal Service in Orange as a mail carrier for 14 years, retiring in 1981. He was a member of the West Haven Italian-American Civic Association and the Orange Hills Country Club, where he was an avid golfer. He was a member of the National Association of Letter Carriers. He was an Army veteran of World War II and saw action in Normandy, northern France, the Rhineland, the Ardennes and central Europe.
Surviving are sons William J. Solimeno Jr. of Sanbornville, N.H., Duane Solimeno of Rocky Hill and Robert Solimeno of New Haven; a sister, Julia Beatificato of East Haven, and five grandchildren. Arthur M. McNamara, 75
HAMDEN - Arthur M. McNamara, 75, of 187 Foote St. died Thursday at St. Raphael's Hospital. He was the husband of Marion Shugrue McNamara.
A son of the late Arthur A. and Emma Matthews McNamara, he was born Sept. 21, 1921, in New Haven. He was president of A.A. McNamara & Sons Construction Co. of New Have He was a parishioner of St. Rita's Church. He was an Army Air Forces veteran of World War II, having served in Europe.
Besides his wife, he is survived by daughters Barbara Rossi and Elizabeth Houde of Wallingford and Ellen McNamara of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; a son, Kevin A. McNamara of Wallingford; a brother, Irving H. McNamara of Hamden; sisters Clare Malone of Delmar, N.Y., and Arlene McAuliffe of LaCanada, Calif.; and seven grandchildren. EAST HAVEN - Raymond Romano A. D'Aniello, 62, of 58 Sorrento Ave. died Friday at St. Raphael's Hospital after a brief illness. He was the husband of Amelia M. Eadersta D'Aniello.

Thomas G. Bomba, 58
RANCHO SANTA MARGARITA, Calif. - Thomas George Bomba, 58, formerly of Derby, died April 19, 1998, in Rancho Santa Margarita after a brief illness. He was the husband of Bonnie Bomba.
Mr. Bomba was born March 14, 1940, in Connecticut, a son of the late Stanley Jr. and Mary Rzasa Bomba. He was a Navy veteran and served at the Bay of Pigs in Cuba. Besides his wife, he is survived by sons, Eric and Kenneth Bomba, in California; stepchildren, Matt, Laura and Kathleen; a brother, Stanley Bomba Jr. of Derby; a sister, Alyce Mancini of Colchester; and four grandchildren. - Neptune Society

Carolyn Zeleny, 88
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Carolyn Zeleny, 88, former area resident, died April 1, 1998, in Manno Haven after a long illness. Born May 6, 1909, in Minneapolis, she was a daughter of the late John Zeleny and Carolyn S. Rogers Zeleny. She received her bachelor's degree with honors from Vassar College and her master's degree and doctorate from Yale University. She was an authority on ethnic studies and immigration. She taught at Skidmore College, Saratoga Springs, N.Y., before joining the faculty of Wilson College where she was former chairwoman of sociology and anthropology and after 1973, professor emeritus. She also was an author and editor of numerous scholarly publications. She was a member of the Franklin County Commission on Corrections, a fellow of the American Sociological Association, secretary of the Society for the Study of Social Problems, a member of the American Anthropological Association and president of the Pennsylvania Sociological Society.
Miss Zeleny leaves no immediate survivors. She was predeceased by a sister, Elizabeth Z. Green. Memorial contributions may be made to the Carolyn Zeleny Memorial Prize, Wilson College, Chambersburg, Pa. - Robert G. Sellers Funeral Home

Henrietta W. Hall, 92
NIANTIC - Henrietta Williams Hall, 92, of 6 South Road died Friday at Lawrence and Memorial Hospital, New London. She was the widow of Percival Hall. Mrs. Hall was born Dec. 11, 1905, in North Branford, a daughter of the late Philo S. and Daisy Cole Williams. She lived in Newington from 1932 to 1971, and then moved to Niantic. In the 1920s, she was a school teacher in Glastonbury. Before her retirement in 1971, she worked for Colt's Manufacturing Co. for more than 30 years. She was a member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church. She was active with the Garden Clubs in Glastonbury and Niantic, won prizes for her roses and also played in a bridge club.
Mrs. Hall is survived by a son, Richard H. Hall of Jupiter, Fla., two granddaughters and four great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son, Herbert S. Hall; four brothers and three sisters. Salvatore De Francesco
HAMDEN - Salvatore De Francesco, 90, of 567 Hartford Turnpike died Thursday at the Arden House after a long illness. He was the widower of Lucy Fava De Francesco. Mr. De Francesco was born April 8, 1908 in New Haven, a son of the late Antonio and Rose Carbone DeFrancesco. He lived in Hamden for the past 58 years. He was a time study engineer for the former Winchester Repeating Arms Co. in New Haven for 30 years and later for the former High Standard Manufacturing Co. for six years. He was a parishioner of St. Ann's Church and was a member and past secretary of its Holy Name Society and a member of its Cana Society. He was a member of the Leland Club of New Haven, a member and past president of the Cherry Hill Civic Association, a member of the Annex Senior Citizens of New Haven and the Ridge Road Senior Citizens.
Mr. De Francesco is survived by sons, Anthony P. De Francesco of East Haven and Ernest J. De Francesco of Hamden; sisters, Rachael and Margaret De Francesco and Helen Lucibello of North Haven and Mary Nolan and Florence Melotti of East Haven; and three grandchildren. He was predeceased by brothers, Lawrence and Frank De Francesco; and a sister, Rose Mosca. - Washington Memorial Funeral Home, North Haven
