Lorice A. Hamrah

MERIDEN -- Lorice Alouf Hamrah of Carpenter Ave., Meriden, beloved wife of the late Charles A. Hamrah Sr., died Sunday, April 14, 2002 at St. Francis Hospital in Hartford.

Born in Roanoke, Va., a daughter of the late Richard A. and Mabel Debs Alouf, she had been a Meriden resident for 55 years, and was a parishioner of St. Joseph Church in Meriden.

She is survived by her two sons and daughter-in-law, Charles A. Hamrah Jr. and Jane Hamrah and Michael R. Hamrah, all of Meriden; her four grandchildren, Michael S. Hamrah, Christopher C. Hamrah, Alison E. Hamrah and Leisa J. Hamrah; her three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Edna and A.K. Copty and Pauline and Edmund Damus, all of Roanoke, Va., and Marguerite (Mrs. Joseph) Daher of Dayton, Ohio; her sisters-in-law, Edna (Mrs. Philip) Alouf, Claire Hamrah Falk and Mary Hamrah; her brothers-in-law, George H. Hamrah and Albert S. Hamrah; and many nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, Charles, she is was predeceased by her daughter, Anne L. Hamrah; her sister, Madeline Saloomey; and her two brothers, Philip and Albert Alouf.

Her family will receive relatives and friends in the Yalesville Funeral Home, 386 Main St., Yalesville section of Wallingford, Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 9 a.m. from the Yalesville Funeral Home, when the funeral cortege will proceed to St. Joseph Church, Meriden, where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Interment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Meriden. Memorial gifts may be sent to Hoffman Heart Institute, (in memory of Lorice A. Hamrah) c/o St. Francis Hospital, 114 Woodland St., Hartford, CT 06015.

George Langa

WALLINGFORD -- George Langa, 61, of Wallingford, died on Sunday morning, April 14, 2002 at MidState Medical Center after a lengthy battle with cancer.

Born in Latvia on Sept. 8, 1940, the son of the late Kris and Anna Bergs Langa, he had resided in Wallingford most of his life. Mr. Langa had attended local schools and was a graduate of Meriden High School. He was employed by Wallace Silversmith Company of Wallingford for some 28 years, and more recently by Guest Company of Meriden. He was a veteran of the Vietnam Era, having served with the U.S. Army.

He is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Karen Dowd of Meriden and Kathryn and Pieter Visser of New Hartford; one son and daughter-in-law, Thomas and Justine Langa of Wallingford; eight grandchildren, Jimmy and Christopher Dowd, Danielle, Kaytlyn and Jessica Langa, Mike and Joey Dudley and Pieter Visser; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Velta and George Ciunga of Smithtown, Long Island and Mrs. Lucy Garnelis of Ellington; also by several nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be held on Thursday, April 18, at 10 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church, 520 Paddock Ave., Meriden with the Rev. Wallace Merdinyan officiating. Burial with military honors will be in the CT State Veterans' Cemetery, Bow Lane, Middletown. Friends may call at the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden on Wednesday, April 17, from 4 to 8 p.m.

John T. Pernal

SOUTHINGTON -- John J. Pernal, 85, of Mt. Vernon Road in Southington, died Sunday, April 14, 2002 at home after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was the husband of 61 years of Frances Ploszay Pernal.

Born in Southington, March 19, 1917, son of the late Peter and Pauline Asklar Pernal he had been a lifelong Southington resident. Mr. Pernal retired in 1979 from his real estate business, John J. Pernal Real Estate. Prior to his retirement he owned and operated Jay's Machine Shop on Mt. Vernon Road.

Besides his wife, Frances, he is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, John and Linda Pernal Jr. of Florida; a brother and sister-in-law, Alex and Marie Pernal of Bristol; a sister, Genevieve Audet of Bristol; four grandchildren, Dena O'Connor and her husband, Patrick, Jody Labadia, Lori Pernal and John B. Pernal; and one great-grandchildren, Kaylee O'Connor. He was predeceased by his daughter, Janet Labadia; two brothers, Adolph and Edward Pernal; and a sister, Marion Lebedenski.

There will be a Mass of Christian burial on Wednesday, April 17, at 11 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church, Plantsville. Burial will follow in Immaculate Conception Cemetery. Calling hours will be in Wednesday morning prior to the funeral from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the Plantsville Memorial Funeral Home, 975 South Main St., Plantsville.

Louise M. Sartucci

MERIDEN -- Louise M. Sartucci, 94, of 355 Prospect Ave., wife of the late Adolph O. Sartucci, died on Wednesday, April 10, 2002 at MidState Medical Center after a brief illness.

Born in Meriden on March 5, 1908, the daughter of the late Louis and Antoinette Petrucelli Yanelli, she was a lifelong Meriden resident had graduated from Meriden High School. Mrs. Sartucci was a parishioner of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church.

She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Patricia P. Skarb and her husband, Walter of Port Orange, Fla.; two sons, Adolph L. Sartucci of Daytona Beach, Fla., and Richard J. Sartucci of Meriden; four grandchildren, Julie Reidy, Linda Budris, Heather Sartucci and Steven Skarb; several great-grandchildren; two sister, Mary Yanelli and Rose DiGiandomenico, both of Meriden; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister, Constance Scranton; and two brothers, Dominic Yanelli and James J. Yanelli.

The funeral will be held on Wednesday, April 17, at 10 a.m. from the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden and at 10:30 a.m. in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday, April 17, from 9 to 10 a.m. prior to the Mass.

Cecilia M. Wrinn

CLEARWATER, Fla. -- Cecilia M. Wrinn, 86, of Clearwater, Fla., died Sunday, April 14, 2002 at Mariner Health of Clearwater.

Born in Waterbury, she moved to St. Petersburg in 1983 from Meriden. She was a homemaker and was Catholic.

Survivors include her husband of 63 years, Norbert; two daughters, Patricia Mik of Meriden and Barbara Irace of Southington; one son, Joseph of Winchester, Mass.; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Anderson McQueen Funeral Homes and Cremation Tribute Center, Largo Chapel has charge of arrangements.

John W. Arther

MERIDEN -- John W. Arther, 62, fiancee of Dayna Warner, died Sunday, April 14, 2002 at home after a lengthy illness.

Born in Meriden on May 21, 1939, the son of Iris Tomms Kiss of Wallingford and the late John W. Arther Sr., he resided in Meriden most of his life and had graduated from Meriden schools. Mr. Arthur was retired from Circuit-Wise in North Haven and was once self-employed as the owner of Toys Boats, Baron Enterprises, and MidState cold Castings. He was an avid model railroader and a member of the Central CT Model Railroad Association, NMRA, the Philadelphia Chapter of PRRT and HS and Silver City Quarter Midgets.

He is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, John W. III and Wendy Arther of Meriden, William and Donna Arther of East Haven, Fred and Mary Arther of Milford; 10 grandchildren; a sister, Iris Maturo of Virginia; a brother, Robert Arther of Meriden; also one niece. Dayna's children and grandchildren loved him and welcomed him into their lives. He was predeceased by his step-father, Aaron Kiss.

The funeral will be held on Wednesday, April 17, at 11 a.m. in the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. Friends may call at the funeral home Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. and on Wednesday from 9 to 11 a.m. Contributions in his memory may be made to MidState VNA and Hospice, 658 Broad St., Meriden, CT 06450.

Milton "Red" Badgley

SOUTHINGTON -- Milton "Red" Badgley, 90, formerly of Meriden Ave., in Southington died Monday, April 15, 2002 at Tandem Health Care Center. He was the husband of the late Louise Ripple Badgley, his first wife and the mother of his children and his second wife the late Esther Carle Badgley.

Born in Southington, June 18, 1911, son of the late Rufus and Lilla Gillim Badgley he was a lifelong resident of Southington. Milton was an active and faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Southington. He was a wonderful father and grandfather, a friend to many and loved by all. His faith and character were an example of the way life should be lived. Milton was well known in the community, as he was Captain of the Volunteer Fire Department Company No. 1 and the first of three generations of firefighters that continues today. He was President of the Exchange Club and a long time member of the Redman. He played semi-pro baseball and was one of the first inductees into the Southington High School Hall of Fame. He was employed by Boyd J. Height Chevrolet and Morton Chevrolet for 45 years and recognized as an outstanding Service Manager. He will be missed by all and remembered in our hearts.

Milton is survived by two sons and three daughters-in-law, Robert and Roberta Badgley, Roger and Terry Badgley, both of Southington and Shirley Badgley of Vermont; seven grandchildren, Keith Badgley of New Hampshire, Darren Badgley, Rebecca Sartor, all of Vermont, Roxanne Steele, Jon Badgley, Sandra Butch of Southington and Pamela Badgley of Meriden; and nine great-grandchildren, Sarah, Vanessa, Jessica, Caitlin, Kody, MacKenzie, Alexandra, Tessa and Joshua; in addition to his immediate family, he is survived by his step-daughter and sons, Deborah and Scott Lansberry of Hamden, Richard and Anita Carle of Maine and David and Karen Carle of New Hampshire and their families. He was predeceased by his oldest son, Bruce N. Badgley; and his great-granddaughter, Danielle Steele.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. from the Plantsville Memorial Funeral Home, 975 South Main St., Plantsville with an 11 a.m. church service at the First Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery. Calling hours will be Wednesday, April 17, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Edward S. Gwara

MIDDLETOWN -- Edward S. "Whitey" Gwara, 76, of rose Circle, Middletown, husband of 56 years of Stasia Lewandowski Gwara, died Sunday evening, April 14, 2002, at Middlesex Memorial Hospital in Middletown after a brief illness.

Born in Meriden on Nov. 29, 1925, he had resided in Meriden most of his life prior to moving to Middletown some 17 years ago. He attended local schools and was employed by Ted's Restaurant on Broad Street for 41 years, retiring in 2001. He was a parishioner of First United Methodist Church of Wallingford, an avid duckpin bowler and a member of both the Polish Knights Club of Meriden and the Polish Falcons of Middletown.

Besides his wife, Stasia, he is survived by one daughter, Kathleen Gwara of Middletown; two sons and daughters-in-law, Paul and Valerie Gwara of Meriden and Joseph and Angelina Gwara of Kensington; six grandchildren, Jennifer and her husband, Marco DiMauro, Sean and Jeffrey Gwara of Meriden, Tina and her husband, Wayne Spakowski of Deep River, Tammy Savage of Waterford and Edward Savage of Middletown; two great-grandchildren, Stirling Spakowski and Amber Rigdon; three sisters, Mrs. John (Helen) Ticino of Meriden, Mrs. Angela Zawisza of Southington, Mrs. Victoria Slowkawski of Meriden; two brothers, John and his wife, Flavia Gwara of Meriden and Stanley Gwara of Meriden; also several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Benjamin Gwara of Meriden and Anthony Gwara of Florida and a sister, Alice Victor of Southington.

The funeral will be held on Wednesday, April 17, at 11 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Wallingford, 941 Old Rock Hill Road, with Rev. Karen Cook officiating. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. Friends may call at the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden on Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the First United Methodist Church, 941 old Rock Hill Road, Wallingford, 06492.
