Violet E. Kinney

MIDDLETOWN -- Violet E. (Crowell) Kinney, 80, of 117 Highland Ave., Middletown, wife of the late Maurice L. Kinney, died Tuesday, May 14, 2002 at her home.

Born in Middletown, she was the daughter of the late Tracy and Anna (Wamester) Crowell. Mrs. Kinney was a lifelong Middletown resident, a graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School and had been employed by Conn. Valley Hospital for 18 years. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Mattabessett Grange No. 42 P of H, and the AARP, Middletown Chapter.

She is survived by one son, Leon "Lee" Goff and her loving daughter-in-law, Navahline "Ann" of Middletown; one daughter, Sharon Brown and her husband, Robert of Glendale, Ariz.; one sister, Lorraine Yeomans of Hadlyme; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren; and two step-grandchildren. She was predeceased by one son, Wayne C. Goff.

Funeral services will be held at Doolittle Funeral Home, 14 Old Church St., Middletown, Tuesday, May 21 at 1p.m. The Rev. Virginia H. Wilcox, minister, will officiate and interment will be in the State Veteran's Cemetery, Middletown. Friends may call at the Doolittle Funeral Home, Monday, May 20, from 6 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to the First United Methodist Church, 24 Old Church St., Middletown, CT 06457.

Robert P. Turi

MERIDEN -- Robert Paul Turi, 57, of Gracey Ave., Meriden, died Thursday, May 16, 2002 at MidState Medical Center.

Born in Meriden, Jan. 16, 1945, the son of Paul P. and Rita Jean Groleau Turi, with whom he and his daughter, Crystal Jean Turi resided in Meriden. He was a graduate of O. H. Platt High School, where he was an outstanding football player and had previously played on the Conard High School football team in West Hartford. He had been a firefighter on the Meriden Fire Department for several years, and was a truck driver, known as "Boxcar" by his co-workers at Tilcon Tomasso and Bozzuto's in Cheshire.

Besides his daughter, Crystal and his parents, Rita and Paul, he is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Jeanne G. and Richard Dorbuck of Rocky Hill; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

His family will receive relatives and friends at the Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main St. Ext., Wallingford, Sunday from 3:30 to 6:45 p.m. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home at 7 p.m. Sunday. Gifts in his memory may be sent to the Crystal Turi Education Fund, c/o Fleet Bank, 1231 East Main St., Meriden, CT 06450.

Vannina Campbell

CHESHIRE -- Mrs. Vannina (Toneatto) Campbell, 70, of 624 Cornwall Ave., died Thursday, May 16, 2002 at St. Mary's Hospital in Waterbury. She was the widow of John F. Campbell Sr.

Mrs. Campbell was born May 15, 1932 in New York City, a daughter of the late Giovanni and Colomba (Zanin) Toneatto and lived in Cheshire for the past 45 years. She was a graduate of Long Island City High School and Queens College in New York. Over her career as a social worker, she worked at the New York Foundling Hospital in New York City, Ridgewood Health Care Facility in Southington and the Cheshire Convalescent Center until her death. Mrs. Campbell was a communicant of St. Bridget's Church.

She leaves three sons, John F. Campbell Jr. of Milford, Christopher T. Campbell of Plant City, Fla., Brendan T. Campbell of Ann Arbor, Mich.; two daughters, Carolyn Pfaff of Hamden, Claire Campbell of Manhattan, N.Y.; a sister, Edna Bonafede of Kunkletown, Pa.; and eight grandchildren. She was predeceased by two brothers, Edward Toneatto and Leno Toneatto.

The funeral will be held Monday, May 20, at 9:15 a.m. from the Slater Funeral Home, 242 South Main St., Cheshire to St. Bridget's Church for a Mass at 10 a.m. Burial will be in St. Bridget's Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Sunday from 3 to 6 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cheshire Convalescent Center, Recreational Therapy Department, 745 Highland Ave., Cheshire, CT 06410, Attn. Mary Ellen Crawford.

Randall C. Dontigney

HOLLY HILL, Fla. -- Randall C. Dontigney, 46, of Holly Hill, Fla., formerly of Meriden died Friday, May 10, 2002 in Holly Hill, Fla.

Born in Middletown on Dec. 21, 1955, he was the son of the Joanne (Sienna) Dontigney of Holly Hill, Fla., and the late Leon J. Dontigney, and had lived in Meriden before moving to Holly Hill, Fla., seven years ago. He was employed at Aircraft Specialties in New Smyrna Beach, Fla.

Besides his mother, he is survived by one brother, Timothy Dontigney of Middletown; three sisters, Sherryann Varano of Meriden, Joyce Marie Dontigney of Pennsylvania and Leanne Dontigney of Holly Hill, Fla.; several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 10 a.m. in the Portland Memorial Funeral Home, 231 Main St., Portland. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery, Portland. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 6 to 8 p.m.

Doris Harrington

GUILFORD -- Doris James Harrington, 79, of Guilford and formerly of Wallingford, passed away Thursday, May 16, 2002 at CT. Hospice in Branford, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was the wife of Robert J. Harrington.

Born Oct. 7, 1922 in Wallingford, daughter of the late Albert S. and Elsie Mitchell James. Mrs. Harrington was employed for many years by the Wallingford Board of Education and following her retirement she volunteered at St. George Church, Guilford.

She was the mother and mother-in-law of Robert J. Jr. and Bonnie Harrington and James and Inez Harrington, all of Wallingford, Carol and Al Griffin of Suffield and Nancy and Raymond Bovich of Clinton; sister of Everett James of Wallingford; also survived by 10 grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held Monday, May 20, at St. George Church, Guilford at 10 a.m. Burial in St. John's Cemetery, Wallingford. Contributions in Mrs. Harrington's memory may be made to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, P.O. Box 224523, Dallas, Texas 75222 or American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 1004, Meriden, CT 06450. Mrs. Harrington will be forever in our hearts and missed by all who knew her. Arrangements in care of the Guilford Funeral Home, 115 Church St., Guilford.

Violet E. Kinney

Robert P. Turi

MERIDEN -- Robert Paul Turi, 57, of Gracey Ave., Meriden, died Thursday, May 16, 2002 at MidState Medical Center.

Born in Meriden, Jan. 16, 1945, the son of Paul P. and Rita Jean Groleau Turi, with whom he and his daughter, Crystal Jean Turi resided in Meriden. He was a graduate of O. H. Anthony J. Belbusti

WEST HAVEN -- Anthony J. Belbusti "AJ", of 12 Arlington St., died May 16, 2002.

At the time of his death, he was the warehouse inventory coordinator at the West Haven Veterans Hospital. He served in the Marine Corps in Vietnam and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with 1 Star, Good Conduct Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal with device and the Combat Action Ribbon.

He was the father of Paul J. Belbusti of Las Vegas, Nev. and Dan A. Belbusti of Wallingford; brother of Ginger Caccavale of Hendersonville, N.C., Nazzarene and Steven Belbusti, both of West Haven and the late Mario N. Belbusti; former husband of Jocelyne "Jackie" Nepton Belbusti of Wallingford; also survived by many nieces and nephews, including Michael Maresca; four grandnephews; and one grandniece.

Funeral services will be held from the West Haven Funeral Home at the Green Monday morning at 10:30 a.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated in St. Paul's Church at 11 a.m. The hours for visitation will be Sunday ( TODAY) from 5 to 8 p.m. Interment with military honors will be in Oak Grove Cemetery. Donations in his memory may be made to Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter 647, P.O. Box 423, West Haven, CT 06516, to benefit homeless veterans in the area.

Helen Kraybill

HAMDEN -- Helen Hardy Kraybill, 80, of 960 Benham St., died Wednesday, May 15, 2002, at CT. Hospice, Branford, after a brief illness. She was the wife of Henry Kraybill, retired Professor of Physics, at Yale University.

She was born in Terrell, Texas, daughter of the late Vessie and Olga DeAlva Wall. A talented and creative person, she pursued lifelong interests in art, theatre and music, and was also an accomplished singer. During the War, before her marriage, she attended the Art Institute of Chicago. She painted, created beautiful jewelry and ceramics. A member of Little Theatre groups in the 1950's, she was involved in the Yale Drama production of "Harvey" -- among others. After attending the Manhattan School of Music in New York and several Master Classes on theatre direction for Opera in the USA and Europe, she returned to New Haven and opened the Total Theatre Group, focusing on Community Theatre for aspiring local performers. The group performed several Broadway musicals including "The Sound of Music" and the "Fantastiks" and produced one-act operas for Opera on the Green. She was the roving Theatre and Opera critic for the New Haven Register, reviewing local and New York productions. In the mid-'70's she opened "The Prop Shop;" in Hamden, and specialized in "Custom Ensembles" for private rental, and costumes and stage properties for local and college theatres. They were all handmade or assembled, and garnered many prizes and accolades. She resided in Vienna, Austria during the late 1970's , and taught courses on "Theatre in Opera" and opera appreciation at the American School in Vienna. Family concerns had her move her business to Texas. Ill health caused her to retire in 1998, and return to Hamden in 1999.

She is survived by her loving husband, Henry Lawrence Kraybill; two children, April R. Cervero and husband, Anthony Cervero of Wallingford and Robert H. G. Kraybill and wife, Christina Kraybill of Pennsylvania; one grandson, Michael G. Lewis of Milford; one brother, Vessie Hardy and wife, Jean Hardy of Texas; a niece and nephew; four grandnieces; one grandnephew; and her beloved cats.

A memorial service will be held at Beecher & Bennett, 2300 Whitney Ave., Hamden, Wednesday, May 22, at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the A.S.P.C.A., 424 East 92nd Street, 4th Floor, New York, NY 10128.
