Joseph W. Francoeur

MERIDEN -- Joseph Walter Francoeur 85, formerly of 117 Carter Ave. Ext., Meriden, husband of the late Mary Marinan Francoeur, died Friday afternoon, July 26, 2002, at Westfield Care and Rehab Center after a lengthy illness.

Born in Meriden on Oct. 3, 1916, the son of the late Oscar and Sylbie Lanoue Francoeur, he had been a lifelong resident of this city. Mr. Francoeur attended local schools and was a graduate of Meriden High School, class of 1934. He was employed for over 25 years with Pratt and Whitney Aircraft, retiring in 1982. He was a veteran of World War II, having served with the U.S. Army in the European Theatre of operations. He was a recipient of the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. Mr. Francoeur was a parishioner of St. Joseph Church, a member of the D.A.V., Meriden-Wallingford Chapter #6, and of the Knights of Columbus, Silver City Council.

He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Mary Ellen and John J. Sullivan of Wallingford; a son and daughter-in-law, James W. and Margaret Francoeur of East Granby; five grandchildren, Juliet Francoeur of Bethlehem, Pa., Bryan Francoeur of E. Randolph, Vt., Patrick and his wife, Michelle Sullivan of Milford, Colleen and her husband, Brian Murray of Wallingford, and Kelly and her husband, Chris Gilbert of Wallingford; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces.

The funeral will be held on Tuesday, July 30, 2002, at 9:15 a.m. from the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., and at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Church. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. should friends desire, contributions in his memory may be made to St. Joseph Church, 22 Goodwill Ave., Meriden, CT 06450 or to the Parkinson's Disease Foundation, 710 West 168th St., New York, N.Y. 10032-9982

Jean M. Jablonski

MIDDLETOWN -- Jean M. Jablonski, 75, wife of Frank Jablonski of Higby Road, Middletown, died Thursday, July 25, 2002 at the Middlesex Memorial Hospital in Middletown.

Born June 7, 1927 in Meriden, she was the daughter of the late Stanley and Aniela Paul Tonkowicz. She was educated in the Meriden schools and graduated from C.W. Post College. Jean was employed as a secretary for New Departure Hyatt, a division of General Motors, various Meriden banks and more recently at the Middletown Shop Rite. Mrs. Jablonski was a longtime resident of Middletown and a parishioner of St. Pius X Church. She was a member of the AARP and the former Meriden Polish Jr. League in which she held the office of Vice President.

Beside her husband, Frank, she leaves a daughter, Cynthia Jablonski of Middletown; a son and daughter-in-law, David and Billie Rae Ruchala of Gaffney, S.C.; a brother, Frank Tonkowicz of Meriden; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Edward Tonkowicz.

Her funeral will be held Monday at 8:45 a.m. from the Stempien Funeral Home, 450 Broad St., Meriden followed by a Mass of Christian burial in St. Pius X Church, Westfield St., Middletown. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home, Sunday from 5 to 8 p.m.

Lucille Lloyd

MERIDEN -- Lucille (Hartmann) Lloyd, 80, wife of the late Charles E. Lloyd, died Saturday morning, July 27, 2002, at MidState medical Center after a brief illness.

Born in Queens, N.Y. on Oct. 17, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry Hartmann. She had resided in Meriden for the past 47 years, and was a parishioner of St. Rose of Lima Church.

Mrs. Lloyd is survived by one daughter, Carole Gibertoni of Meriden; one son and daughter-in-law, Gary C. and Linda Swarz of Florence, Ore.; five grandchildren, Gary Swarz Jr, Shawn Swarz, Suzie Murnin, Kathy Russenberger and Michael Gibertoni. She is also survived by nine great-grandchildren; two sisters; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two grandchildren, Grant and Gregg Swarz.

Friends and relatives are invited to attend a Mass of Christian burial to be held on Tuesday, July 30, at 10 a.m. at St. Rose of Lima Church. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery, Wallingford. Friends may call at the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 East Main St., Meriden on Monday from 6 to 8 p.m.

Robert M. Van Mol

MERIDEN -- Robert M. Van Mol, 72, of Spring St., husband of Eleanor Prenen Van Mol, died on Friday, July 26, 2002, at MidState Medical Center with his family at his side following a lengthy battle with cancer.

Mr. Van Mol was born in Vilvoorde, Belgium, Oct. 14, 1925, son of Virginia Peeters Van Mol and the late Henry Van Mol. He had resided in Meriden for 43 years and was employed by AGC Corp for 35 years, retiring in 1995. Mr. Van Mol was a parishioner of St. Laurent Church and was an avid fisherman and gardener.

Besides his wife and mother, he is survived by four sons and daughters-in-law, Robert Van Mol Jr. of Meriden, George and (Terry) Van Mol of Plainville, Tim and (Ann) Van Mol of Hurst, Texas and Scott Van Mol of Meriden. He is also survived by seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three sisters; a brother, living in Belgium; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, Walter; and a brother, Louis Van Mol.

The funeral will be held on Monday at 9:45 a.m. from the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St. and at 10:30 a.m. at St. Laurent Church. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 3 to 7 p.m. should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 538 Preston Ave., P.O. Box 1004, Meriden, CT 06450-1004.

Jeanne E. Baczek

DERBY -- Jeanne E. Baczek, 81, formerly of 39 Park Ave., Derby, entered into eternal rest on Thursday, July 25, 2002 surrounded by her loving family in the Griffin Hospital after a brief illness. She was the devoted wife of the late Frank A. Baczek.

Mrs. Baczek was born in Derby, June 22, 1921, daughter of the late Edmund and Mary Ann Early Lique and has been a Derby resident for all of her life. She was a graduate of Derby High School, class of 1938, attended the Stamford Hospital School of Nursing, was a former member of the St. Mary's School Board and was a member of the Association of Operating Room Technicians, and was a retired Operating Room Tech. at Griffin Hospital for over 18 years.

Mrs. Baczek is the beloved mother of Jeanne DeGennaro and her husband, Thomas of Derby, Francis R. Baczek of Woodbury and Lorraine Mackey and her husband, Kevin of Meriden; she is the sister of Lorraine Nero of Hamden and Elizabeth long of Deltona, Fla.; Mrs. Baczek also leaves three loving grandchildren, Jennifer Ferrigno and her husband, Joseph, Kyle Mackey and Brett Baczek; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers, Robert and Raymond Lique; and four sisters, Isabel Callini, Muriel Belinske Wilkinson, Alice Celone and Edna Najjar Nicholas.

Her funeral will leave the Edward F. Adzima Funeral Home, 253 Elizabeth St., Derby on Monday at 8:30 a.m. for a Mass of Christian burial at 9 a.m. at St. Mary Church, Derby. Entombment will be in Mount St. Peter Garden Mausoleum. Friends may call on Sunday from 3 to 7 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Griffin Hospital Development Fund, 131 Division Ave., Derby, CT 06418 and to Hewitt Memorial Hospital, 45 Maltby St., Shelton, CT 06484.

John V. Briers, Sr.

WALLINGFORD -- John V. Briers Sr., 71, of Jobs Road, Wallingford, died Thursday, July 25, 2002 in St. Francis Hospital in Hartford. He was the beloved husband of Shirley Colbath Briers.

Born in Auburn, N.Y., Feb. 19, 1931, a son of the late James and Gladys Jelley Briers, he was raised in Lowell, Mass., and had lived in Wallingford for many years. He was a veteran of the Korean War, having served in the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. Johnny Hutchinson stationed in Osaka, Japan. He was the recipient of the Korean Medal. A tool and die maker, Mr. Briers had been employed by the Pratt and Whitney Aircraft Co., for 15 years, U.S. Steel Co., for 5 years, and Allied Signal in Stratford for 18 years until his retirement six years ago. He was also a real estate investor with many properties in Wallingford.

Besides his beloved wife, Shirley, Mr. Briers is survived by his daughter, Pauline Cellano of Wallingford; his three sons and a daughter-in-law, Steven and Christine Briers of Southington, James J. Briers of Wallingford and John V. Briers Jr. of Meriden; his grandchildren, John V. Briers III, Shane Briers, Jason Briers, Nicholas Briers, Christine Cellano and Ashley Cellano; and his two great-grandchildren, Elizabeth and Aaron Matthew.

Funeral services and burial in the In Memoriam Cemetery will be private. There are no calling hours. Arrangements are under the direction of The Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main St., Ext., Wallingford. In lieu of flowers, gifts in his memory may be sent to the American Heart Association, 5 Brookside Dr., Wallingford, CT. 06492.

James E. Doyle

NORTH FORT MYERS, Fla. -- James E. Doyle, 73, formerly of Meriden, died after a brief illness in North Fort Myers, Fla. He was predeceased by his wife of 50 years, Muriel Lazor Doyle, this past February.

Born in Meriden, he was the son of the late James and Gertrude Powers Doyle. James was a veteran of World War II, having served with the U.S. Navy. Before his retirement, Mr. Doyle owned and operated the Silver City Sprinkler Company. He was active in civic affairs both in Meriden and Fort Myers. A longtime member of the Meriden division of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, he had numerous offices including President. He was named Parade Marshall for the club's annual St. Patrick's Day Parade in 1978. In recognition of his contributions to the AOH, he was made an Honorary Life Member. Mr. Doyle was also active in the Meriden Lions Club, the Meriden Elks Club, the Meriden Police Benevolent Association, the Fort Myers American Legion, the Fort Moose Club, the Fort Myers Elks Club and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Denise Doyle and Patrick Noonan of Madison, Sharon and Frank Karrass and Cheryl and Bill O'Loughlin, all of Meriden; six grandchildren, Colleen, Meghan, Tara and Shannon Noonan of Madison and Benjamin and Kerianne Karrass of Meriden; two brothers, Matthew Doyle of Meriden and William Doyle of Vermont; one sister Trudy Gdovin of Vermont; as well as several nieces and nephews. James was predeceased by his brothers, Edward Doyle and Harold Doyle; and his sister, Mary Doyle Rioux.

The funeral will be held on Monday, July 29, at 9:15 a.m. from the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden and at 10 a.m. at the St. Mary Church. Burial with military honors will be in St. Boniface Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may b made to St. Mary School, 97 Grove St., Meriden, CT 06451 or to the American Diabetes Association, 300 Research Pkwy, Meriden, CT 06450.

SOUTHINGTON -- Delia C. Morris, 63, of October Lane in the Plantsville section of Southington, died Thursday, July 25, 2002 at St. Raphael Hospital in New Haven.

Born in Waterbury, Dec. 11, 1938, daughter of the late Omer and Delia Gerard Labrecque, she had been a Southington resident since 1965. Delia was a member of St. Thomas Church.

Mrs. Morris is survived by her two sons, William and Carl Morris, both of Southington; her daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Paul Mariani of Southington; and her former husband, Donald Morris; she also leaves four brothers; three sisters; five grandchildren, Kristina, William, Jeremy, Hope and Ashley; and one great-grandson.

Funeral services will be held Monday, July 29, at 9 a.m. from the Plantsville Memorial Funeral Home, 975 South Main St., Plantsville, with a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. at St. Thomas Church. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery in Waterbury. Calling hours are Sunday, July 28, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Plantsville Memorial Funeral Home.
