Mary V. Alix

WARNER, N.H. -- Mrs. Mary Victoria (Despres) Alix, 90, of Warner, N.H., died Aug. 5, 2002 in Bristol. She was the wife of the late John Andrew Alix, who died in 1984.

She was born in Meriden, June 25, 1912, the daughter of Ovila and Mary Despres. She attended school in Meriden. She moved to Warner, N.H., to live 43 years ago. She was a member of the St. Theresa Catholic Church, Henniker, N.H.

She is survived by two daughters, Joyce Chagnon and Beverly Langlais, both of Warner, N.H.; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Angelina Peruti and Dorothy White, both of Meriden; and several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Theresa Catholic Church, Tuesday, Aug. 13, at 10:30 a.m. with Fr. Mark Dollard as celebrant. Burial will be in New Cemetery, Henniker, N.H. There will be no calling hours. Memorial donations to the Rescue Squad, Henniker, N.H. The Holt/Woodbury Funeral and Cremation Service, Henniker, N.H. is in charge of arrangements.

Marie Grace Arpaia

CHESHIRE -- Marie Grace (Zampano) Arpaia, 75, of Greenbriar Drive, Cheshire, passed away Friday, Aug. 2, 2002 in Meriden.

Mrs. Arpaia was born in New Haven, July 4, 1927, daughter of the late Anthony N. and Marie (Fusco) Zampano.

She was the beloved wife of Nicholas E. Arpaia Jr.; loving mother of Nicholas E. Arpaia III of Durham and Kimberly M. Arpaia of New Haven; sister of Honorable Robert C. Zampano and his wife, Dorothy of East Haven and Roberta Z. Seipold and her husband, Peter of East Haven.

Funeral services in the Sisk Brothers Funeral Home, 3105 Whitney Ave., Hamden, Wednesday at 2 p.m. Burial in All Saints Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 12 p.m. until the time of the service. Memorial contributions to MidState VNA and Hospice, 658 Broad St., Meriden 06450.

Walter J. Carmody

WALLINGFORD -- Walter J. Carmody, 98, beloved husband of 60 years, of Florence Lathrop Carmody, of Center St., formerly of North Main St., Wallingford, died Monday, Aug. 5, 2002, at the Regency House in Wallingford.

Born in Wallingford, July 6, 1904, he was a son of the late Joseph and Eva L'Heureux Carmody and had been a lifelong resident. He was employed by the John Robert Powers Agency of New York in 1939, and then served with the U.S. Navy SeaBees, in the South Pacific during World War II. He was then employed by the Wallace Silversmiths, Wallingford Auto Company, for several years, and Valenti Chevrolet of Wallingford from 1955 until his retirement in 1974. Mr. Carmody was the first President of the Moses Y. Beach School PTA, one of the founders of the Child Guidance Clinic of Central CT, a former member of the Wallingford Court of Burgesses, a former Chairman of the Wallingford Electrical Commission, a former Wallingford Police and Fire Commissioner, a former member of the Board of Directors of the Wallingford Visiting Nurses Association, a parishioner of Most Holy Trinity Church of Wallingford, had been a member of the Parish Council, and an Usher at the church for many years, served for 10 years as chairman of the Holiday for Giving Committee of the Town of Wallingford, a member of the South Central Elderly Nutrition Project for 10 years, a former member of the Wallingford Committee on Aging, a former Chairman of the Wallingford Food Bank, and an American Red Cross Volunteer, and had been a member of the Wallingford Democratic Town Committee for 49 years. He was the recipient of the Wallingford Eagles Outstanding Citizen Award, the Wallingford Grange, Community Service Award, the Wallingford Rotary Club Citizen of the Year Award, the Wallingford Jaycees Outstanding Senior Citizen Award, and the United Cerebral Palsey Good Samaritan Award.

Besides his wife, Florence, he is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Gail C. and James Rainey of Wallingford; his two sons and daughter-in-law, W. John Carmody of Creedmore, N.C., and Robert L. and Jeanne Carmody of Wallingford; his eight grandchildren, J. Todd Rainey, Jennifer Rainey Quigley, Christen Rainey Birney, John C. Rainey, W. Justin Carmody, Megan H. Carmody, Samuel L. Carmody and Tobin J. Carmody; his four great-grandchildren, C. Ryan Quigley, McKenna Quigley, Brynley Mae Rainey and Devyn Quigley; his two sisters and brothers-in-law, Anna N. and Joseph Flanagan of Old Saybrook and Mae N. and David Hatcher of Boulder City, Nev.; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Dorothy Carmody; and three brothers, Wilbur Carmody, J. Harold Carmody and R. Robert Carmody.

His family will receive relatives and friends in the Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main St., Ext., Wallingford, Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Friday at 9:30 a.m. from the Wallingford Funeral Home, when the funeral cortege will proceed to Most Holy Trinity Church where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be in the In Memoriam Cemetery in Wallingford. In lieu of flowers, gifts in his memory may be sent to the Regency House Van Fund, c/o Regency House of Wallingford, 181 East Main St., Wallingford, CT 06492.

Julio E. Galindez

WALLINGFORD -- Julio E. Galindez, 64, of Yale Ave., Wallingford, died Sunday, Aug. 4, 2002 in Hartford Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Anna Hyman Galindez.

Born in Puerto Rico, July 3, 1937, a son of the late Juan and Carmen Rosado Galindez, he was a Wallingford resident for many years. He had been employed by the U.S. Postal Service in Meriden for many years and had previously worked in the New Haven Post Office. He was a peacetime veteran having served in the U.S. Navy.

Besides his beloved wife Anna, Mr. Galindez is survived by his two daughters and sons-in-law, Julieann and Joseph Cooper of Universal City, Texas, and Danielle and Michael Lopez of Maine; his five sons and daughter-in-law, Alan and Frances Senna of Atlanta, Ga., Julio E. Galindez Jr., of New York City, Anthony Galindez of New York City, Ricardo Galindez of Meriden, and Julian Galindez of New Britain; his two sisters, Laura Medina of New York City and Josie Hughes of Miami, Fla.; his two brothers, Gilbert Cortez and Jacinto Galindez, both of Cleveland, Ohio; 14 grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews; and he was the loving brother-in-law, of Natalie and Michael Sheil of Wallingford.

His family will receive relatives and friends in The Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main St., Ext., Wallingford, Thursday from 4 to 6:45 p.m.. Funeral services will be held in The Wallingford Funeral Home at 7 p.m. Interment will be private.

Christopher M. Peters

SOUTHINGTON -- Christopher M. Peters, 20, of 56 Sun Valley Drive, died Aug. 5, 2002 as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

Born in Waterbury on March 30, 1982, the son of Diane (Michaud) Peters of Southington and the late Cary Darwin Peters.

In addition to his mother, Christopher is survived by a son, Matthew Amenta of Southington; a sister, Jamie Peters of Plainville; three brothers, Cary Peters of Plainville, Michael Peters and Robert Hernandez, both of Southington; his paternal grandmother, Betty Peters of Southington; his maternal grandparents, Gilmay and Bertin Michaud of Southington; and a niece and nephew.

The funeral will be held on Friday at 10:30 a.m. at the Faith Living Church, 20 Grove St. Plantsville. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery in Waterbury. Relatives and Friends may call at the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St., Southington on Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m.

Francisco Reyes

MERIDEN -- Francisco Reyes, 92, of Ames Ave., died Monday, Aug. 5, 2002 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was the widower of Belen (Rodriguez) Reyes.

Born Sept. 3, 1909 in Coamo, Puerto Rico, he was the son of the late Miguel and Barbara (Miranda) Reyes. Mr. Reyes was a member of Iglesia Unidos en Cristo.

Francisco is survived by two sons, Oscar Reyes of Alabama and Noel Reyes of Meriden; three daughters, Nereida Diaz of Meriden, Zulma Melendez of Long Island and Ivonne Reyes of Puerto Rico; 18 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren. Among the grandchildren is Nery Diaz, with whom he made his home in Meriden.

Funeral services and burial will take place in Guayama, Puerto Rico. Family and friends may call at the Szymaszek-Taylor Funeral Home, 189 E. Main St., Meriden on Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m.

Julio E. Galindez

Richard E. Larson

CHESHIRE -- Richard Edward Larson, 56, of 241 East Gate died Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2002 at St. Mary's Hospital. He was the husband of Elizabeth (Merriam) Larson.

Richard was born March 14, 1946, in New Haven, a son of the late Harry and Marion (Carter) Larson and lived in Cheshire for the past 23 years. He was employed as a driver at Lyon & Billard in Cheshire. He was an avid bowler, card player, fisherman and NASCAR fan. Richard was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Vietnam war.

Besides his wife, he leaves a son, Richard Larson of Germany; three daughters, Pamela Krystofoski of Wareham, Mass., Sharon Lowcock of Englewood, Fla., Kathleen Larson of Northport, Fla.; two step-sons, Bruce and Brian Owen of Cheshire; a step-daughter, Brenda Bass of Cheshire; 16 grandchildren; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, George and Marie Merriam of Myrtle Beach, S.C.

Funeral Saturday at 9:15 a.m. from the Slater Funeral Home, 242 South Main St., Cheshire to the Church of the Epiphany for Mass at 10 a.m. Burial with military honors will be in St. Laurent's Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Connecticut Hospice, 100 Double Beach Road, Branford, CT 06405.

Walter E. Hyneck

MERIDEN -- Walter E. Hyneck, 89, formerly of Southington, Meriden and Florida died Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2002 at Miller Memorial. He was the husband of Chloe (Walker) Hyneck.

Born in New Britain on June 19, 1913, he was the son of the late Walter T. and Edith (Abell) Hyneck. Walter was a graduate of Rutgers School of Banking. In 1947 he began his career with the Central Bank For Savings in Meriden where he eventually became the President and Chairman. He retired in 1977 after 30 years of service. Walter was a past chairman of the Meriden Housing Authority. He was also active in the First Baptist Church in Southington where he once served as a chairman of the Building Committee and Treasurer and also served as Chairman of the Board.

Besides his wife, he is survived by his son, Ted Hyneck of Killingworth; and daughter, Martha Hyneck Gisclon of Weston, Colo.; grandchildren, Susan Johnson, Bruce Hyneck, Karen Hyneck and Lindsay Hyneck; and great-granddaughter, Alexis Johnson.

Walters services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church, 581 Meriden Ave., in Southington. Burial will be at the convenience of his family and there are no calling hours. The DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St., in Southington are in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church 581 Meriden Ave Southington, CT 06489.
