David J. Slomkowski

MIDDLETOWN -- David J. "DJ" Slomkowski, 33, of Knox Boulevard, beloved husband of Mary S. (Brotz) Slomkowski, died Saturday, Oct. 26th, at Connecticut Hospice, Branford.

He was born in Meriden, the son of Edward and Geraldine (Wrobel) Slomkowski of Middlefield. He was most recently employed as a supervisor for Guida's Dairy. He graduated from Vinal Regional Technical School in 1987.

Besides his wife and parents, he is survived by a son, Brett Slomkowski of Middletown; a daughter, Alicja Slomkowski of Middletown; a stepson, Brian Scerra of Middletown; a stepdaughter, Christine Scerra of Middletown; a brother, James Slomkowski of Meriden; a nephew, Dylan Slomkowski of Middlefield; also several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Oct. 29, with an 11 a.m. funeral liturgy in St. Pius X Church, Middletown. Friends may call at the Biega Funeral Home, 3 Silver St., Middletown, Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Those who wish may send memorial contributions to the Education fund for the Children of David Slomkowski, Meriden Connecticut School Employees Federal Credit Union, 285 Broad St., Meriden, CT 06451.

Elizabeth Zecca

MIDDLETOWN -- Elizabeth Zecca, 89, of 600 Highland Ave., formerly of 656 Center Street, Wallingford, wife of the late Angelo Zecca, Sr., mother of Edward Zecca of Wallingford and Mary Ellen Gingras of Middletown, died Thursday, Oct. 24, 2002, at the High View Healthcare Center in Middletown.

The funeral will leave the B.C. Bailey Funeral Home, 273 South Elm Street on Monday at 10:45 a.m. for a Mass of Christian burial at 11:30 a.m. at the Most Holy Trinity Church, 84 North Colony Rd., Wallingford. Burial will be at St. John's Cemetery, Wallingford. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m.

Marilyn A. Bush

WALLINGFORD -- Marilyn Ann (Satterthwaite) Bush, 49, of 8 Meadow Land Rd., wife of Robert A. Bush, died unexpectedly Saturday, Oct. 26th at the MidState Medical Center in Meriden.

Mrs. Bush was born in New Haven, May 28, 1953, a daughter of the late Arthur and Ethel (Nelson) Slatterthwaite and had been a Wallingford resident for the past 20 years, moving here from Cheshire. She was associated with her husband in the operation of Cheshire Sport, and was a member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Cheshire.

Besides her husband, she leaves one son, David R. Bush; and one daughter, Jennifer L. Bush, all of Wallingford; and one sister, Jane Harber of Texas.

The funeral will be held on Wednesday at 10:15 a.m. from the Slater Funeral Home, 242 South Main St., (Rt. 10) Cheshire to St. Peter's Episcopal Church, 59 Main St, Cheshire for services at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Cheshire Hillside Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m.

Genevieve M. Jarzabek

MERIDEN -- Genevieve "Jenny" Mary Jarzabek, 72, of Woodlawn Terrrace, died Sunday at the Meriden Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

She was born in Middlefield, the daughter of the late Joseph J. and Mary A. (Stefanowicz) Jarzabek. Prior to her retirement, she was employed by the State of Connecticut Department of Income Maintenance. She was also a member of the Polish Jr. League. Jenny enjoyed every day. She found the best in every place she went and every person that she met. An avid baseball fan, the only thing that she loved more than rooting for her beloved Red Sox, was watching her grandchildren's sports teams. She had numerous hobbies and interests for which gardening, traveling, knitting, reading, Word Jumble's, watching movies and going to tag sales were just a few. She touched the lives of so many. She will be missed.

She is survived by a son, Charles Lochowski and his wife, Janette of East Haddam; a daughter, Joyce Rossi and her husband, Joseph of Middletown; a brother, Felix Jarzabek of Wallingford; two sisters, Sophie Gawlak of Newington and Lottie Marosz of Middlefield; six grandchildren, Matthew Ostasiewski, Nichole Lochowski, John Rossi, Jenna Rossi, Nathan Lochowski, and Andrew Lochowski; also numerous nieces, nephews, family, and loving friends from across the country. She was predeceased by three brothers, Albert, John and Walter Jarzabek.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 10:15 a.m. from the Biega Funeral Home, 3 Silver St., Middletown, followed by an 11 a.m. Funeral liturgy in St. Pius X Church, Middletown. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call at the Biega Funeral Home, Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. Those who wish may send memorial contributions to the American Diabetes Assoc., 300 Research Pkwy., Meriden, CT 06450.

Stella Zylonis

WARRENTON, Va. -- Stella Zylonis, 89, wife of the late Edmund S. Zylonis died on Monday, Oct. 21, 2002, at the home of her son.

Born in New Britain, May 5, 1913, she was the daughter of the late Stanley and Mary Radavich. She had resided in Connecticut before moving to Virginia eight years ago and graduated from New Britain schools. She was a parishioner of St. Rose of Lima Church in Meriden and was a member of the St. Rose Rosary Society.

She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Edmund and Toni Zylonis of Warrenton, Va.; four grandchildren, Suzanne Zylonis, Christopher Zylonis, Paul Bachman and Kathleen Bachman; and three great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Helen Igras of Dearborn Heights, Mich.; and two brothers, Anthony Radavich of Kensington, Conn. and Francis Radavich of Dearborn Heights, Mich. She was predeceased by a daughter, Janett Bachman; and a brother, Dominic Radavich.

Friends and relatives are invited to attend a graveside service to be held on Wednesday, Oct. 30 at 9:30 a.m. from the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 East Main Street, Meriden, and at 10 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday, Oct. 29 from 6 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in her memory may be made to Hospice of the Rapidan, P.O. Box 715, Culpeper, VA 22701.

Marilyn A. Bush

David J. Chikar

NEW BRITAIN -- David J. Chikar, 51, of New Britain died Saturday, Oct. 26, 2002 at New Britain General Hospital.

He born in New Britain and was employed as an engineer at United States Machine Tool. He was an avid outdoors man and loved hunting, fishing and boating.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Kathy (Domrad) Chikar; and three step-children, Bill Keefe and Frank Keefe III of New Britain and Kimberly Keefe of Bristol; He is also survived by his in laws, John and Ann Domrad of New Britain; and two sisters and brothers-in-law, Diane and Gary Hamel and Tammy and Randy Kuzmich, all of Southington; and several nieces and nephews.

Special thank you to the entire staff of the New Britain General Hospital for the special care and attention given to David during his stay.

Memorial services will be on Saturday, Nov. 2, at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, New Britain. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery, New Brtiain. There are no calling hours. New Britain Memorial-Sagarino Funeral Home, 444 Farmington Ave., New Britain is serving the family. In lieu of Flowers donations may be made to E.C. Goodwin Technical High School,735 Slater Rd. New Britain, CT 06053 attention Mrs. Peshka.

Edwin W. Havens

OCEANSIDE, Calif. -- Edwin William Havens, 85, died Friday, Oct. 6, 2002 from complications of Alzheimer's and diabetes.

Born Jan. 18, 1917, in Wallingford, he retired from the Investment Casting Co., in 1987. He was a Sp. 5 in the U.S. Army Amphibian Engineers in the South Pacific during World War II. He was a member of St. Michael's Episcopal Church in Carlsbad, Calif.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Dorothy S. Havens of Oceanside, Calif.; a son, Daniel R. Havens of Sao Paulo, Brazil; daughters, Patricia Havens of Big Bear, Calif., and Teraco Chebl Havens of Sao Paulo, Brazil; and grandchildren, Charles Roger and Christine Lynn Havens. He was predeceased by a son, Roger E. Havens in 1988.

A memorial service was held Oct. 13, at St. Michael's-by-the-Sea Episcopal Chapel with the Rev. Moquin officiating.
