Angelo P. Giordano

Angelo P. Giordano, a longtime Stamford resident, died Saturday, Jan. 20, 2001 at Stamford Hospital. He was 85.

He died of cardiac arrest, according to his family.

Born Sept. 28, 1915, in Gravina Di Puglia, Bari, Italy, he was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Egilio Giordano.

Mr. Giordano lived in Stamford for most of his life. He worked for the Stamford Housing Authority in its maintenance department until his retirement. He was a member of Sacred Heart Church in Stamford. He was a U.S. Army veteran who served in World War II.

Mr. Giordano was past president of the Sacred Heart Holy Name Society and former secretary for the Gravinese Mutual Aid Society of Stamford. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus 3rd and 4th degree. He served as past treasurer of the Father Miller Council.

He is survived by his wife, Mary P. Boccadoro Giordano of Stamford; two daughters, Angela M. Barosky of Waitsfield, Vt., and Carol Gular of Redding; six brothers, Frank Giordano of Boca Raton, Fla., Michael Giordano, Ralph Giordano and Philip Giordano, all of Stamford, James Giordano of South Carolina, and Bruno Giordano of New Jersey; and four grandchildren.

He was predeceased by a sister, Angela Giordano Furello.

Calling hours will be 4 to 8 p.m., Monday, Jan. 22, 2001 at Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home, 104 Myrtle Ave., Stamford.

A funeral procession will leave the funeral home at 9:50 a.m., Tuesday, Jan. 23, for Sacred Heart Church, 37 Schuyler Ave., Stamford, where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m.

Burial will follow in St. John Cemetery, Darien.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Sacred Heart Church, 37 Schuyler Ave., Stamford, CT 06902.

Elliott "Mac" MacFarlan Moore

Elliott "Mac" MacFarlan Moore of Stamford died Friday, Jan. 19, 2001 at Stamford Hospital. He was 70.

He died of cancer, according to his family.

Born Dec. 8, 1930, in Chicago, he was the son of the late Elliott MacFarlan and Janet Whitton Moffett Moore.

Mr. Moore was advertising director of Golf Digest from 1974 to 1976, and vice president and publisher of Golf Magazine from 1981 to 1986. He served for eight years as a member of the USGA on the group's Public Relations Advisory Committee. He was a member of the board of directors of the National Golf Foundation, served on its executive committee, and headed its Advertising Committee.

As publisher of Golf Magazine, Mr. Moore negotiated with the LPGA to launch Fairway Magazine and negotiated with the PGA Tour to launch Tour Magazine. He also launched The Country Club magazine and served from 1986 to 1996 as president, publisher and editor. Most recently, he was sales director and director of Bull's Bridge Golf Club in South Kent.

He had been a member of the Winged Foot Golf Club in Mamaroneck, N.Y., since 1976. He also was a member of the Country Club of New Canaan and an honorary member of the Atlanta National Golf Club in Alpharetta, Ga., the Royal Musselburgh Golf Club in Edinburgh, Scotland, and the Turnberry Golf Club in Ayrshire, Scotland.

He is survived by his wife, Marta Moore of Stamford; two daughters, Mairly Scanlon of New Zealand, and Dr. Sarah Moore of Tucson, Ariz.; a sister, Janet Moore Burrows of Wilmette, Ill.; two brothers, Peter Mark of Houston, and Griffith Mark of Lakeville; and four grandchildren.

A memorial service will be at 9:30 a.m., Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2001 at First Presbyterian Church of New Canaan, the Rev. Gary Wilburn will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 372 Danbury Road, Wilton, CT 06897.

Frank Conrad Taylor

Frank Conrad Taylor, a former resident of Norwalk, died Thursday, Jan. 18, 2001 at home in Jacksonville, Fla. He was 90.

He died of cancer, according to his family.

Born Nov. 14, 1910, in Trinidad, West Indies, he was the son of the late Ernest Augusta and Lina Viola Stephen Taylor.

Mr. Taylor worked as a receptionist for an automotive dealership in Trinidad for several years before retiring .

He is survived by his wife, Doris Amoroso Taylor of Norwalk; four sons, Stokely Taylor of Sweden , Michael Taylor of Milford, Frank Taylor Jr., of Canada , and Trevor Taylor of Stamford; two daughters, Ann Marie Falconer of Jacksonville, and Jennifer Osinowo of Norwalk; a brother, Owen Taylor of Trinidad; a sister, Ivy Taylor of California ; 18 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2001 at Downer Funeral Home, 31 Stillwater Ave., Stamford.

Burial will be private.

Jack F. Beirne

Jack F. Beirne, a Watertown resident and a former longtime Stamford resident, died Friday, Jan. 19, 2001 at Waterbury Hospital. He was 76.

He died of respiratory failure, according to his family,

Born June 18, 1924, in Stamford, he was a son of the late William and Delia Molloy Beirne.

Mr. Beirne was a 1942 graduate of Stamford High School and a graduate of Short's Business School, formerly of Stamford. He served in England and France during World War II and was awarded the Bronze Star.

He was a route delivery man for Borden's Milk for 22 years, before retiring in 1975. He then worked for the city of Stamford Department of Traffic and Parking, retiring in 1991.

An athlete, Mr. Beirne played on several local baseball and basketball teams during the 1950s and once held the city record for most points scored in a basketball game, his family said. He was an umpire for the Darien Little League during the 1960s and 1970s. He was honored by the Old Timers Athletic Association in 1990. He was a longtime member of the Knights of Columbus.

Mr. Beirne is survived by his wife of 46 years, Claire Marrow Beirne of Watertown; two daughters, Patricia E. Beirne of Stamford, and Susan C. Hadjstylianos of Watertown; and three grandchildren.

He was predeceased by two brothers, William Beirne and George Beirne; and a sister Catherine O'Neill.

Calling hours will be 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., Monday, Jan. 22, 2001 at Leo P. Gallagher & Son Funeral Home, 2900 Summer St., Stamford.

A Mass of Christian burial will follow at 11 a.m., at St. Mary's Church, Elm St., Stamford.

Burial will follow in Long Ridge Union Cemetery, Erskine Road, Stamford.

Memorial donations may be made to the Visiting Nurse Association, 27 Princeton Road, Watertown, CT 06795; or Veteran's Home and Hospital, 287 West St., Rocky Hill, CT 06067.

Amelia Obuchowski Bailey

Amelia Obuchowski Bailey, a lifelong Stamford resident, died Friday, Jan. 19, 2001 at Homestead Health Center, Stamford. She was 81.

She died of cardio-respiratory arrest, according to her family.

Born Dec. 17, 1919, in Stamford, she was the daughter of the late John and Minnie Obuchowski, Sr.

Mrs. Bailey was a homemaker. She was a communicant at Holy Name of Jesus Church in Stamford.

She is survived by two daughters, Karen Smith and Linda Bailey, both of Bridgeport; a brother, Albert Obuchowski of Stamford; two grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and a nephew.

She was predeceased by her husband, William Bailey; a daughter, Patti Ann Bailey; and a brother, John Obuchowski Jr.

There will be no calling hours.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m., Monday, Jan. 22, 2001 at Holy Name of Jesus Church, 369 Washington Blvd., Stamford.

Burial will follow in St. John Cemetery, Darien.

Wojciechowski's Ambassador Funeral Chapels, 9 Pulaski St., Stamford, handled arrangements.

Bruce W. Butler

Bruce William Butler, of Valrico, Fla., died Friday, Jan. 19, 2001 at a hospital in Brandon, Fla. He was 75.

Joseph Martin Pregio

Joseph Martin Pregio, a Stamford resident, died Saturday, Jan. 20, 2001 at Stamford Hospital. He was 62.

He died of cardiac arrest, according to his family.

Born July 28, 1938, in Stamford, he was a son of the late Joseph and Mary Localio Pregiogio.

Mr. Pregio was a mechanical technician at Aztec Inc. of Norwalk.

He is survived by his wife, Carol Fauci Pregio of Stamford; a sister, Joanne Duncan of Stamford; a brother, Robert Pregiogio of Stamford; and four nephews.

Calling hours will be 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2001 at the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home, 104 Myrtle Ave., Stamford.

A procession will leave the funeral home at 9:20 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 24, for St. John the Evangelist Church, 279 Atlantic St., Stamford, for a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m.

Burial will follow in St. John Cemetery, Darien.
