Richard J. Zaler
WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. Richard J. Zaler, 66, died Friday at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield.
Born in Meriden, Conn., he lived most of his life there before moving to West Springfield over three years ago. He worked at the J. R. Sexton Co. in Meriden for 40 years, retiring in 1995. His first wife, Ernestine (Martin) Zaler, died in 1991.
He leaves his wife, Theresa M. (Martin) Jarvis Zaler; one daughter, Patricia Jarlett of Plainville, Conn.; one brother, Robert of Meriden; two sisters, Beatrice Papas and Lillian Girard, both of Meriden; five stepdaughters, Agnes Jablonski of Reedsburg, Wis., Joy Taillefer of West Springfield, Mass., Brenda Danielson of Blooming Glen, Pa., Darlene Yiznitsky of Monson and Karen Archambault of West Springfield; 19 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son, Paul, who died in 1992.
The funeral will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 4, 1998, from the Toomey-O'Brien Funeral Home, 1043 Westfield St., West Springfield, Mass.. Burial will be in St. Thomas Cemetery. Calling hours are Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. Donations in his memory may be made to the charity of one's choice.

Sophie Jobbagy
WALLINGFORD Sophie Jekubovich Jobbagy, 82, of South Cherry Street, died Sunday, Nov. 1, 1998, at MidState Medical Center in Meriden.
Mrs. Jobbagy was born in Wallingford, May 22, 1916, a daughter of the late Alex and Vera Jekubovich, and was a lifelong resident. She had been employed at the former Stanley Judd Co. of Wallingford for many years until her retirement. She was a parishioner of SS. Peter and Paul Church in Wallingford.
She is survived by her two sons, daughters-in-law, and five grandchildren, Philip P. and Donna L. Jobbagy, and their daughters, Robyn L. Jobbagy and Holly N. Jobbagy of Wallingford; and Frank F. Jobbagy Jr. and Darlene Jobbagy and their sons, Keith Jobbagy, Kevin Jobbagy and Kenneth Jobbagy; two sisters, Mary Savitch of Dover, N.H., and Anna Staron of Wallingford; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers, Paul Jekubovich and Joseph Jekubovich.
Her family will receive relatives and friends at the Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main St. Ext., Wallingford, Tuesday, from 4 to 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held, Wednesday, from the Wallingford Funeral Home, at 9 a.m., when the funeral cortege will proceed to SS. Peter & Paul Church, where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Interment will be in Center Street Cemetery in Wallingford. Gifts in her memory may be sent to SS. Peter & Paul Church, 139 N. Orchard St., Wallingford, CT 06492.

Joseph F. Matczak
SOUTHINGTON Joseph F. Matczak, 63, of 61 Lowery Drive, died Sunday, Nov. 1, 1998, at home surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Glenda (Shubert) Matczak.
Born March 13, 1935, in Throop, Pa., son of the late Stanley and Anne (Evancho) Matczak. He retired two years ago from Pratt & Whitney Aircraft of Cheshire. Mr. Matczak was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving in the Korean War. He was an avid golfer and a member of Portland West Country Club. He was a parishioner of the Immaculate Conception Church.
Besides his wife he is survived by his children, Joseph F. Matczak, Susan C. Bard and son-in-law, Tony, Linda A. Briggs and son-in-law, Steven and John S. Matczak, all of Southington; a sister, Irene Bryant of New Britain; four grandchildren, Amy and Sarah Briggs, Michael and Lindsey Bard; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Frank Matczak.
The funeral will be held Wednesday at 9:15 a.m. from the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St., to the Immaculate Conception Church at 10 a.m. Burial will be with military honors at the Immaculate Conception Cemetery. Calling hours will be Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. Donations may be made in his memory to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 410, Wallingford, CT 06492.

Kathleen Adams
MERIDEN Kathleen V. Adams, 94, of Catlin Street, died Monday, Oct. 28, 1998, at Middlesex Convalescent Center in Middletown.
Born in Bristol, Feb., 13, 1904, she was the daughter of the late Henry Joseph and Catherine T. (Mullen) Adams. She was employed by New Departure in Meriden and was a parishioner of St. Rose of Lima Church.
She is survived by two nieces, three nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. She was predeceased by two sisters and one brother.
Graveside services were held Thursday, Oct. 29, 1998, with the Rev. Robert Roy officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of the John J. Ferry and Sons Funeral Home, 88 East Main St., Meriden.

Emilia M. Hackbarth
MERIDEN Emilia (Mildred) Hackbarth, 86, of 174 Sunset Ave., wife of the late Lester Hackbarth, died Sunday, Nov. 1, 1998, at the Meriden Care and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born Dec. 29, 1911, in Meriden, a daughter of the late Frank and Anna Pasinski. Mrs. Hackbarth was a lifelong resident of Meriden and was educated in local schools. She was a parishioner of St. Stanislaus Church.
She leaves a daughter and son-in-law, Carol and John Hendee of Chichester, N.H.; three brothers, Edward and Steven Pasinski, both of Meriden, and Theodore Pasinksi of Syracuse, N.Y.; three granddaughters, Chantelle Boyle, Susan Bridge and Alicia Lussier; three great-grandchildren, Garrett and Morgan Lussier, and Samuel Boyle; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Henry Pasensky; and a sister, Helen Moskal.
Her funeral will be held at 9:15 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 4, from the Stempien Funeral Home, 450 Broad St., Meriden, followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. in St. Stanislaus Church. Burial will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mrs. Hackbarth's name may be made to St. Stanislaus School Fund, 81 Akron St., Meriden, CT 06450.

Elizabeth Olson
SOUTHINGTON Elizabeth (Haynes) Olson, 76, of 33 Zwicks Farm Road, Plantsville, formerly of Branford, died Sunday, Nov. 1, 1998, at her home. She was the wife of the late Carl W. Olson.
Born Aug. 28, 1922, in West Rutland, Vt., daughter of the late Frank and Jenny (Harrison) Haynes. She had retired from the Dutch Wharf Boatyard and Marina of Branford. She was a parishioner of Mary Our Queen Church.
She is survived by a son, Thomas Olson of Plantsville; a daughter and son-in-law, Betsy and Stephen Harris of Southington; a brother, Charles Haynes of Rutland, VT; a sister, Rita Sweeny of W. Rutland, Vt.; and three grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son, William Olson; a brother, David Haynes; and a sister, Mary Burke.
A memorial Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Mary Our Queen Church. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. Donations may be made in her memory to the Hospice Visiting Nurses Association, 658 Broad St., Meriden, CT 06450. DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St., is in charge of arrangements.

Adolph Petro
CHESHIRE Adolph "Tripp" Petro, 86, formerly of 31 Birch Drive, husband of the late Jean (DeMaria) Petro, died on Monday, Nov. 2, 1998 at Mediplex of Central Connecticut in Southington after a brief illness.
Born in Waterbury, Dec. 10, 1911, he was the son of the late Michael A. and Maria J. (Morrone) Petraroia. He attended schools in Waterbury and had lived in Cheshire for most of his life. Mr. Petro was employed by New Departure, Hyatt-Bearing Division of General Motors in the Meriden and Bristol plants for 18 years, retiring in 1974. He was a parishioner of Mary Our Queen Church in Southington. Tripp was well known in the bowling circles throughout Connecticut, having won many duckpin world records. In November 1997, he was inducted into the state Duckpin Hall of Fame. He also excelled in softball for St. Mary's team and the Lou Duncan Restaurant in Meriden in the 1940s and 50s.
Mr. Petro is survived by four sons and three daughters-in-law, Anthony M. and Jennifer Petro of Torrington; Adolph F. and Dorothy Petro of Meriden; Joseph J. and Mary Jane Petro of Southington; and Francis P. Petro of Meriden and his companion, Trudy Hoyt; 17 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and four sisters, Dorothy Fennelly, Edith Guarino and Antoinette Zuraitus, all of Waterbury, and Helen Christillo of Prospect; and by several nieces and nephews. Mr. Petro was predeceased by a daughter, Jean Mills; two sisters, Marion Cantito and Victoria Petraroia; and by two brothers, Robert and Frank Petraroia.
The funeral will be held on Wednesday at 9 a.m. at the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 East Main St., Meriden. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the Leukemia Society of America, Inc., 1125 Dixwell Ave., Hamden, CT 06514.

Delia Rios Bonet
MERIDEN Delia Rios Bonet, 70, of 76 Butler St., joined her precious son, Julio, in heaven on Monday, Nov. 2, 1998.
Born in Aguada, Puerto Rico, she was the daughter of the late Jose Rios and Telespora Bonet.
She is survived by her only brother, Emilio Vega of New York City and her nephews, Francisco, Luis and Samuel Vega; her dear companion, Cristobal Henk; and many grand nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Ortiz Funeral Home, 22 First Ave., N.Y. Calling hours are Tuesday from 5 to 9:30 p.m. Gifts in her memory may be sent to the Meriden Visiting Nurses Association, Broad Street, Meriden, CT 06450, or to the Mountain Laurel Patient Fund c/o Central Connecticut Dialysis Center, 377 Research Parkway, Meriden, CT 06450.

Frances Slavinski
WALLINGFORD Frances L. Slavinski, 74, of 251 N. Airline Road, formerly of Bee Street and Olive Street in Meriden, beloved wife of the late Francis J. "Pooch" Slavinski, passed into the arms of Our Lord on Sunday, Nov. 1, 1998, at MidState Medical Center.
Born March 21, 1924, in Cromwell, the daughter of the late Stanley and Louisa Kumkowski, she resided in Meriden for most of her life. She was employed by International Silver Co. and the Meriden Board of Education prior to her retirement. She was a parishioner of St. Stanislaus Church in Meriden. She was also a member of the Polish Falcons Nest No. 68 and was recently honored with the 25 year Merit Award.
Mrs. Slavinski is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Patricia and John W. Yusza Jr. of Wallingford, and Barbara and Gary Smith of Thomaston; three sons and daughters-in-law, Francis and Mary Slavinski, Peter and Dawn Slavinski and Joseph and Beverly Slavinski, all of Meriden; 10 grandchildren, John W. Yusza III of Middlefield, Deborah Yusza-Sokol of Durham, Lori Slavinski-Monarca of Middletown, Lisa Slavinski, Linda Slavinski, Kelly Slavinski, Kate Slavinski, Joseph Slavinski Jr., Randy Slavinski, all of Meriden, and Sarah Smith of Thomaston; two great-grandchildren, Emily Marie Sokol of Durham and John W. Yuscz IV of Middlefield; two brothers, Joseph Kumkowski of Meriden and Thomas Kumkowski of Cheshire; two sisters, Kasmiera "Katherine" Loss and Ladisla "Lottie" Cyrulik; and her faithful companion, "Kasey." Mrs. Slavinski was predeceased by three sisters, Jeannette Wojtunik of Wallingford, Genieveve Cyrulik of Middletown and Helen Kosienski also of Middletown.
The funeral will be held at 10:45 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 4, from the John J. Ferry and Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden, and at 11:30 a.m. in St. Stanislaus Church in Meriden. Burial will be at the State Veterans Cemetery in Middletown. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Contributions in her memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 188, North Haven, CT 06473, or to the American Heart Association, 5 Brookside Drive, Wallingford, CT 06492, or to the American Diabetes Association, 300 Research Parkway, Meriden, CT 06450.
