Yolanda Barnett Wilkerson

Yolanda Barnett Wilkerson, a South Norwalk resident, died Saturday, Jan. 27, 2001 at Honey Hill Care Center in Norwalk. She was 85.

She died of a stroke, according to her legal conservator.

Born Nov. 1, 1915, in Louisville, Ky., she was a daughter of the late David William and Cora DeSha Barnett.

Mrs. Wilkerson taught mathematics for more than 24 years in Norwalk, mainly at Ponus Ridge Middle School, retiring in 1986. Before moving to Norwalk, she taught school in Louisville and New York City.

For four years, she was the national secretary for interracial education of the National Board of the YWCA in New York City.

She attended Louisville public schools and obtained her bachelor's and master's degrees from Ohio State University.

Mrs. Wilkerson was on the board of directors of the Carver Foundation of Norwalk and was active in community affairs.

She is survived by a nephew, David Barnett of Elkridge, Md.; and a grandnephew.

She was predeceased by her husband, Doxey A. Wilkerson.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Burial will be private.

Downer Funeral Home, 75 East Ave., Norwalk, is handling arrangements.

Joseph Cessario

Joseph Cessario, a 53-year Stamford resident, died Saturday, Jan. 27, 2001 at Stamford Hospital. He was 74.

He died of diabetes, according to his family.

Born Nov. 7, 1926, in Calabria, Italy, he was a son of the late Frank and Marie Rose Valeriotti Cessario.

Mr. Cessario was an engineer for the Dorr Oliver Co. in Stamford for 20 years before retiring in 1986.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Gladys D. Mestey Cessario of Stamford; a daughter, Lisa Connolly of Ocala, Fla.; two sons, Robert F. Cessario of Eureka Springs, Ark., and Joseph J. Cessario of New Orleans, La.; a sister, Josephine Laccona of Stamford; and two nephews.

Calling hours will be 6 to 8 p.m., today, Jan. 30, 2001 at Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home, 104 Myrtle Ave., Stamford.

A service will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2001 at the funeral home.

Burial will follow in Queen of Peace Cemetery, Rockrimmon Road, Stamford.

Emily F. Franco

Emily F. Franco of Franklin, Ohio, formerly of New Canaan, died Sunday, Jan. 28, 2001 at Summerville Assisted Living in Franklin. She was 86.

Asta E. Dahl Pedersen

Asta E. Dahl Pedersen, a former resident of Greenwich and Southbury, died Monday, Jan. 29, 2001 at home in Jensen Beach, Fla. She was 83.

She died of cancer, according to her family.

Born Feb. 28, 1917, in Brooklyn, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Andrew and Tonette Nielsen Dahl.

Mrs. Pedersen lived in Greenwich from 1947 to 1980. She was a secretary in the housekeeping department of Greenwich Hospital. In 1980, she moved to New Milford. She retired to Heritage Crest in Southbury and moved to Florida 11 years ago.

She is survived by a daughter, Evelyn Mazurak of Jensen Beach; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband, Kai Otto Pedersen.

Calling hours will be 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 2, 2001 at Munson-Lovetere Funeral Home, 235 Main St. N. Routes 6/67, Southbury.

A service will follow at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Burial will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 3, in Stanwich Congregational Church Cemetery in Greenwich.

Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Martin and St. Lucie County, 2030 S. E. Ocean Boulevard, Stuart, FL 34996.

Evelyn T. Rands

Evelyn T. Rands, a former Greenwich resident, died Saturday, Jan. 27, 2001 at Wellspring Nursing Home in Cincinnati. She was 82.

She died of natural causes, according to her family.

Born Oct. 15, 1918, in White Plains, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Julia Cooney Goldney.

She was a 1940 graduate of Ohio State University.

Mrs. Rands lived in Greenwich for many years before moving to Florida in 1977. She relocated to Cincinnati in 1995.

She is survived by two sons, William J. Rands of Cincinnati and Robert D. Rands of Needham, Mass.; and four grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband, Dr. Robert S. Rands.

Services and burial were private.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 372 Danbury Road, Wilton, CT 06897.

Busse & Borgmann Funeral Home in Cincinnati handled arrangements.

Mary A. Ford

Mary A. Ford, a longtime Greenwich resident, died Monday, Jan. 29, 2001 at Greenwich Hospital. She was 96.

She died of natural causes, according to her family.

Mrs. Ford was employed by Electrolux Corp. for 21 years before retiring.

Born July 24, 1904, in Stamford, she was a daughter of the late Andrew and Mary Lucas Hagymasi.

She is survived by a daughter, Marilyn Ford Hall of Greenwich; two sons, Oliver Ward Ford Jr. of Colchester and Robert P. Ford of Norwalk; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband, Oliver W. Ford Sr.; and three brothers and two sisters.

Calling hours will be 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 1, 2001 at Leo P. Gallagher & Son Funeral Home, 31 Arch St., Greenwich.

A funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 2, 2001 at St. Saviour's Episcopal Church, 350 Sound Beach Ave., Greenwich.

Burial will be in First Congregational Church Cemetery in Greenwich.

Paula Ferris

Paula Ferris, a Greenwich resident, died Saturday, Jan. 27, 2001 at Greenwich Hospital. She was 87.

She died of cardiac arrest, according to her family.

Born Sept. 24, 1913, in Stamford, she was a daughter of the late Alexander and Alexandra Zebroski.

Mrs. Ferris worked as a secretary for Stamford Adult Education Program before retiring.

She is survived by three sons, Robert Ferris of Greenwich, Paul Ferris of Portland, Ore., and Wayne Ferris of Brooklyn, N.Y.; four sisters, Jane Wojcik of Boston, Victoria Horyzzun and Irene Zebroski, both of Stamford, and Frances Green of Pollock Pines, Calif.; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, Robert Ferris; a brother, Joseph Zebroski; and a sister, Helen Zebroski.

Calling hours will be 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 1, 2001 at Wojciechowski's Ambassador Funeral Chapels, 9 Pulaski St., Stamford.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 1, 2001 at the Holy Name of Jesus Church, 369 Washington Blvd., Stamford.

Burial will be private.
