Richard A. Brewster
Born in Stoughton, Massachusetts on Feb. 29, 1960

RICHARD A. BREWSTER age 43 of Trussville, Alabama passed away on February 27, 2004 after a short illness. He was born on February 29, 1960 in Stoughton, Massachusetts.
Richard owned and operated Alabama Mortgage Alternatives on Main St. in Trussville.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Cheryl Stone-Brewster, three children, Cory age 16, Jace age 14, and Mackenzie age 12 all at home, parents, John and Geraldine Brewster of Waterford and Janice and Harold Bushey of Charlestown, N.H., eight brothers and three sisters, John Brewster III of Paisley, Fl., Steven Brewster of Waterford, Donald Leclair of Phoenix, AZ, Raymond Leclair and Ronald Leclair both of Charlestown, NH., Robert Leclair of Lebanon, NH., Andrew Brewster of Montville, Eugene Brewster of Atlanta, GA., Ann Segrue of Schenectady NY., Catherine Leclair of Clairmont, NH, and Laura Brewster of Niantic as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends and family are invited to attend a memorial service to honor Richard’s life at St. James Episcopal Church, corner of Huntington and Federal Sts., New London on Saturday afternoon, March 27th at 2 P.M.. A reception will follow in the Parish Hall. John T. Giesing, Jr.
Born in New London, Connecticut on Mar. 20, 1940

John T. Giesing, Jr. 63, of 15 Fleming Ct. in Groton died Tues. Mar. 16, 2004 at the Lawrence Memorial Hospital in New London.
He was born on Mar. 20, 1940 in New London the son of John T. Giesing, Sr. of Groton and the late Nancy Christina Giesing.
John was married to the late Elizabeth A. Giesing on Apr. 7, 1973 in Groton. She died on Nov. 2, 1996.
A 1958 graduate of Fitch High School, John joined the City of Groton Police Force on Feb. 24, 1964 and retired as a Sgt. from the force in 1998. He had also a member of the Army National Guard.
He was a member of the Sacred Heart Church in Groton, where he served as a Eucharistic Minister for many years and had volunteered his time serving Communion to residents of both the Windham Falls and Groton Regency. Also through the church, he was a member of the Legion of Mary and the Casa America Prayer Group.
John was also an avid volunteer at the Groton Soup Kitchen for many years.
Besides his father he is survived by three sisters Carolyn Willliamson of Gales Ferry, Kathy Moon and Nancy Newlan both of Groton, a brother Robert Giesing of Groton and his long-time companion Rose Duncan also of Groton.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:30 pm Thursday afternoon Mar. 18, at the Sacred Heart Church in Groton.
Burial will follow in the Colonel Ledyard Cemetery, Groton. There are to be no visiting hours.
Byles- Groton Memorial Home, 310 Thames St. is in charge of arrangements.

Robert Charles Sherman
Born in Yantic, CT on Apr. 2, 1956

Robert Sherman

GROTON - Robert Charles Sherman, 47, of 245 Benham Road, Groton died at his residence on Monday.

He was born April 2, 1956 in Yantic, CT the son of Harry E. and Irene Ruffo Sherman of Yantic, CT.

Mr. Sherman graduated from the Norwich Free Academy , and received a BA in International Studies from American University in Washington, DC. . He was employed as a graphic designer for TRW in Washington, DC until he moved to this area in the mid 1980’s. He currently was employed locally by SBC Global.

In addition to his mother and father, he is survived by 2 sisters; Jeanne C. Sullivan of Stonington and Judy S. Carlson of Norwich, a niece; Jenna Carlson and a nephew; Taylor Carlson both of Norwich.

The funeral service will be held 11:00 AM Thursday at the Byles Memorial Home, 99 Huntington St., New London. Burial will be in Saint Joseph’s Cemetery, Norwich. There are no calling hours. Donations in his memory may be made to Sacred Heart Church, 52 West Town Street, Norwichtown, CT 06360

Burton E. Schaperow
Born in Hartford, Connecticut on Jul. 25, 1919

Burton E. Schaperow, 84, of 100 Thames St. in New London, Ct died Mon., Mar. 15, 2004 at the Yale- New Haven Hospital.
He was born on July 25, 1919 in Hartford, the son of James H. and Leah D. Schaperow.
Mr. Schaperow was married to his wife Sarah on Sept. 7, 1943 in Hartford.
He had served for three years during World War II with the Army Air Corps Band.
Burt had worked for 26 years at the U. S. Submarine Base in Groton, retiring in 1982 as the supervisor of the Public Works Dept.
He was a member of the Congregation Beth- El and a Hadassah Associate, both in New London.
He also was a member and organist for both the Union and Brainard Lodge of Masons, and the Spinx Bedoin Shrine.
An avid musician, for over 20 years, his band had played at the Morton House in Niantic.
Besides his wife, he is also survived by four sons Joel of New London, Eli of Deltona, FL., Leo of Waterford, Jason of Silver Springs, MD., a brother Farley of New Haven, nine grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Fri., Mar. 19 at the Congregation Beth- El.
Burial will follow in Beth- El Cemetery, Groton.

Elaine Thomas Reynolds
Born in Mystic, Connecticut on Oct. 20, 1919
Departed on Mar. 11, 2004 and resided in Quaker Hill, CT.

Elaine T. Reynolds, 84, of Quaker Hill died peacefully and surrounded by family Thurs., March 11, 2004, at the Beechwood Manor in New London.
She was born on Oct. 20, 1919 in Mystic, Ct. the daughter of Irving C. and Lila Douglass Thomas.
Mrs. Reynolds was married to the late Lynwood L. Reynolds on Mar. 21, 1944 in New London. He died on Mar. 29, 1985.

Mrs. Reynolds had worked over the years, at the former Savings Bank of New London as a teller. She then became a secretary at Connecticut College in New London.
She returned to the workforce following the raising of her family to become a mortgage secretary at the former New England Savings Bank and then at the Chelsea- Groton Savings Bank.
Following her retirement from banking, she moved and lived in Chula Vista, CA. for 15 years.
Elaine was a wonderful homemaker and a loving mother.
She amazed her family and friends with her inner strength as a Breast Cancer survivor of 14 years.
Mrs. Reynolds is survived by three daughters Lynne Horr , Joyce Luce both of Quaker Hill, Holly Bozeman of Franklin, TN., a son Kirk S. Reynolds of Westerly, RI and his companion, Richard Greene who had cared for Elaine for 4 years in her home, a sister Natalie Shelburn of Niantic, a brother Rev. David I. Thomas of Niantic, five grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by the extended family of her long-time companion, the late Harry Andreoli, Jeff & Veronica Andreoli, Hal & Monica Andreoli, Beverly Cook, and their families all of California.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wed., Mar. 17 at the Harkness Chapel at Connecticut College.
Burial will follow in the Elm Grove Cemetery in Mystic.
Byles Memoiral Home, 99 Huntington St., New London is in charge of arrangements.

Warren W. Scott
Born in New London, Connecticut on Jan. 3, 1941

Warren W. Scott, 63, of 442 Boston Post Rd. in East Lyme died Wed., Mach 10, 2004 at the Greentree Manor in Waterford.
He was born on Jan. 3, 1941 in New London, the son of Audrey A. Damon Scott of Niantic and the late Wainwright Scott.
A graduate of the University of Connecticut, Warren was a self-employed landscaper for over 40 years. He was very well known in the shoreline area for his designs and workmanship.
Besides his mother, he is survived by a sister Arolyn A. Scott of East Lyme, a brother and sister-in-law Thomas and Karen Scott also of East Lyme , nieces and nephews Michelle, Justin, Allison & Colin Scott, and many people in the area who truly cared about him.
Warren was also predeceased by a sister Diana Ulbricht.
A graveside service will be held in the Mack Mill Cemetery on Scott Rd. in East Lyme at a later date.
There are to be no visiting hours.

Joyce A. Quickel
Born in Bridgeport, Connecticut on Nov. 4, 1945

Frances Marie Strother
Born in Hartford, Connecticut on Jul. 11, 1932
Departed on Mar. 6, 2004 and resided in New London, CT.

Frances Marie Strother, 71, of Bolles Ave. in New London died March 6, 2004 at the Lawrence Memorial Hospital in new London.
Born July 11, 1932 in Hartford, Frances was a proud member and Elder of the Eastern Pequot Tribal Nation. She was a member of the Elder Task Force Comm. to the tribe as well.
She had been employed with the U. S. Coast Guard Academy and Connecticut College for many years.
Frances had enjoyed family gatherings, Pow-wows, fishing and bingo.
She leaves her loving husband Louis Strother, her children Brenda Holland, Jeffrey Strother, Tina Nicholson, Louis Strother, Jr., Kathy Mattingly, her sisters JoAnn Anderson, Laura Porter, Dorothy Miller, her brother Richard Sebastian, 7 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great-grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews.
Frances was predeceased by her father Willliam Earl Sebastian, her mother Eva Holland, her foster parents Sadie and Joseph Miller, her brothers Sonny Sebastian, Ed Miller, Ernest Henderson, her sister Beverly Sebastian and a host of friends and loved ones.
She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
Funeral service will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday March 9 at the Byles Memorial Home, 99 Huntington St. New London.
Burial will be private.
There will be a visiting hour from 6 to 7 p.m. prior to the service.
