Catherine Thrift,
media center manager
Catherine Thrift, 85 of Rehoboth Beach, and formerly of Landover Hills, Md., died Friday, Aug. 27, 2004 at Jefferson Medical Center, Philadelphia, Pa.
Mr. and Mrs. Thrift moved to Delaware in 1984 following retirement. She had formerly worked for 25 years, retiring in 1984 as the manager of the media center for the Prince George’s Board of Education. She was an active and dedicated member of the Epworth United Methodist Church, Rehoboth Beach, and formerly with the Christ United Methodist Church in Landover Hills.
She loved living by the seashore.
She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Clifton Earl Thrift; two daughters, Terri Thrift of Stafford, Va. and Nancy Galentine and her husband Arthur of Frederick, Md.; a sister, Anna Mae Turner of LaPlata, Md.; three grandchildren, Clifton Galen Galentine of Lexington, S.C.; Dana Ray Galentine of Poolesville, Md. and Sheryl Lynn Sartori of Frederick, Md.; and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 31, 2004 at the Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 1449 Kings Highway, Lewes, where friends may call after 6 p.m. Rev. Jack Abel will officiate. Burial will be private at Ft. Lincoln Cemetery, Brentwood, Md.

Pauline G. Bovee,

Pauline G. Bovee, 77, of Lewes, and formerly of Eastburn Acres in Wilmington, died Thursday, Aug. 26, 2004, at home.
Mrs. Bovee was born April 27, 1927 in Wilmington, the daughter of the late Paul and Grace Gerrish Mason. A talented homemaker, she created beautiful cross-stitch artwork for family and friends. Mrs. Bovee was devoted to her family and loved playing with her beloved grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred O. Bovee, on July 5, 2004.
She is survived by seven children, Ronald Bovee and his wife Deborah of Dresher, Pa., Donald Bovee and his wife Jo-Ann of New Castle, Jackie Melczak of Lewes, Fred A. Bovee of Wilmington, Sandra Wiley of Bear, Brian Mark Bovee and his wife Joanne of Wilmington, and Alan Poppe and his wife Doris of Bridgeville; 14 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at noon, Tuesday, Aug. 31, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, where friends may call after 11 a.m. Interment will follow in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear.

Jessica Kristen Mueller,
West Marine manager
Jessica Kristen Mueller, 19, of Rehoboth Beach, died Wednesday, Aug. 25, 2004, in Christiana Medical Center, Stanton.
Miss Mueller had resided in Delaware for the past 14 years, moving from New Jersey. She was a manger at West Marine in Rehoboth Beach.
She was preceded in death by her grandfather, Sheldon Mueller.
She is survived by her loving parents, Lance and Linda Mueller of Milton; her loving sisters, Melissa Mueller of Florida, Emily Mueller and Alexandra Mueller, both of Milton; her loving brothers, Zachary Mueller and Nicholas Mueller, both of Milton; and her loving grandmother, Alice Mueller of New Jersey.
Services were held at the home of her parents, with burial in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Milton.

Marilyn Jean Bergfelder,
active in Wicomico Hunt
Wallace Elmer Thompson, 87, of Easton, Md., died Thursday, Aug. 26, 2004, in Memorial Hospital at Easton.
Mr. Thompson was born Aug. 14, 1917, in Magnolia, the son of the late James E. and Molly Hughes Thompson. He had been a resident of Easton since 1945.
After attending public school, he worked for the family fruit business and then for Glenn L. Martin in Baltimore before serving in the U.S. Army during World War II. He served in the U.S. European Theatre of Operations in the Southern France campaign, where he was wounded Oct. 29, 1944, for which he earned a Purple Heart.
Following his release from active duty in May 1945, he was associated with his brother, George Thompson, in the operation of Thompson Motors in Easton until his retirement in 1994.
Mr. Thompson was a member of E.E. Streets Memorial Post 5118, Veterans of Foreign Wars in Easton.
He is survived by his wife, Catherine Hardy Thompson, whom he married July 31, 1943; a son, Wallace E. Thompson of Lewes; and a grandson, Casey T. Thompson of Ocean City.
Graveside services were held in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Camden.

Marilyn Jean Bergfelder,
active in Wicomico Hunt
Marilyn Jean Bergfelder, 57, of Harrington, died Wednesday, Aug. 25, 2004, after a long battle with lung cancer, at home.
Mrs. Bergfelder was born in Abington, Pa., the daughter of Stephen E. Christ of Milton and Florence Mansure of Dunellen, Fla.
She owned a farm alongside her husband, Henry. When she wasn’t busy with the farm, she made custom picture frames in her framing shop.
She loved her horses. She cared for many horses and she loved to drive horse carriages. She was very active with fox hunting, so much so that at one time, she had her own pack of hounds.
She belonged to the Monmouth County Hunt New Jersey, Eastern Shore Fox Hunters Association, Harrington, the Delmarva Driving Club and was a present member oft he Brandywine Valley Driving Club and the Wicomico Hunt.
She is survived by her husband, Henry E. Bergfelder of Harrington; a stepson, David Bergfelder of Pensacola, Fla.; a stepdaughter, Darlene Dorminy and her husband James of Tifton, Ga.; a stepmother, Eleanor Christ of Milton; a sister, Janice C. Sensai and her husband Louis of Georgetown; four cousins, Nancy and John Dubeck and Steve and Mindy DeCoursey; two aunts, Anna Kinsey and Mabel DeCoursey; and numerous close friends from New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland and Pennsylvania.
Services were held in Melvin Funeral Home, Harrington, with burial private.

Bennett Clamp,

Bennett Clamp, 62, of Ocean Pines, Md., passed away Wednesday, Aug. 18, 2004, at home.
Mr. Clamp was a beautician at Hair Ways in Ocean Pines, Berlin, Md.
He is survived by William Holman of Rehoboth Beach and Billy Pat Clamp of Washington, D.C.

Iona Beatrice Stewart,

Iona Beatrice Stewart, 68, of Lewes, died Saturday, Aug. 21, 2004, at home.
Mrs. Stewart was born in Lewes, daughter of the late Helene B. Parker-Stewart and Louis Stewart Sr. She was educated at the former William C. Jason High School in Georgetown, the class of 1953.
She is survived by two brothers, Kenyon Parker of Frederick, Md. and Granville B. Stewart of Lewes; and two sisters, Sarah Stewart and Antionette Handy, both of Lewes.
Services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 28, at St. George AME Church, Park Avenue, Lewes. Burial will be private. Arrangements by Miller Funeral Services, Milford.
Rev. Dr. Brooks Reynolds Sr.,
First DSP chaplain
The Rev. Dr. Brooks E. Reynolds Sr. was born in Shortly, DE on Nov. 2, 1915 to the late John and Lida Rickards Reynolds. He passed in his home in Millsboro on Tuesday, Aug. 24, 2004.
Upon completing high school in Georgetown in 1933 he attended Goldey College in Wilmington and Washington College in Chestertown, Md. before earning a bachelors degree in education and a masters degree in sacred theology from Temple University in Philadelphia. His doctorate of divinity was earned at Howard University in Washington, D.C.
Dr. Reynolds married Grace Collins Reynolds in 1939 and they together served a number of churches, beginning with Hooper's Island, Md. in 1938. A part of the former Wilmington Manor, the church grew from meetings in a private home through two building programs. It was later renamed Asbury U.M. Church and grew to a membership of 2,300 when Dr. Reynolds was reassigned to Bethesda United Methodist Church in Salisbury in 1974. Dr. Reynolds first retired in 1986 but returned to active ministry to serve three additional pastorates, most recently Christ United Methodist Church in Laurel from 1999-2001. His dear friend Beatrice Simonds was an important part of these latest ministries.
In 1954 he became the first chaplain of the Delaware State Police and in 2003 was awarded the first Delaware State Police emeritus status with promotion to major. Other significant past affiliations include the chaplaincy of the Gov. Bacon Health Center, Delaware City, secretary of the Board of Evangelism and president of the board of trustees of the Penininsula Conference Board of Hospitals and Homes and president of the trustees of the Manor House in Seaford. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and Past Grand Chaplain of the Masonic Lodge of Delaware.
Dr. Reynolds was preceded in death by his wife Grace Collins Reynolds in 1993. He is survived by two sons, Brooks E. Reynolds Jr. of Topeka, Kansas, and Bruce C. Reynolds and his wife Kathleen of Bear, seven grandchildren - Ty, Lyda, Blair, Bret and Chad Reynolds, Mary Bock and Brian Seals, one great-granddaughter, Tara Leeks and a very close friend, Bea Simonds.
Services will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 28 at the Grace United Methodist Church, Church and Morris streets, Millsboro. The Rev. Rob Townsend will officiate. Friends may call at the church from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. for visitation.
Interment will be in the Millsboro Cemetery
in Millsboro. In lieu of flowers the family requests that, in recognition to Dr. Reynolds's service in the ministry, contributions be made to the church of your choice.
Richard L. Hudson,
co-owned Hudson Brother's Garage
Richard L. Hudson, 81, of Dagsboro, died at his home on Wednesday, Aug. 25, 2004, surrounded by his family. He was born in Frankford, the son of the late John Lemuel Hudson and Nina Helen Lynch Hudson. For 48 years, he co-owned and operated the Hudson Brother's Garage in Dagsboro with his brother Russell. He was an honorary member of the Dagsboro Volunteer Fire Company, member of the Elks Lodge 2173 of Selbyville and was a charter member of the Delaware Mobile Sports Fisherman's Association.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Russell "Chock Up" Hudson and his wife Sherry of Dagsboro, John De Joseph Hudson and his wife Pamela of Las Vegas; two grandchildren, Chad L. Hudson of Dagsboro, and Sara E. Baker of Ellendale.
Services will be private.

Virginia Rose "Aunt Gee" Fowler, 71, of Millville, died Tuesday, Aug. 24, 2004, at Beebe Medical Center, Lewes.Mrs. Fowler was a domestic engineer and her favorite pastime was playing bingo. She also enjoyed bowling.She was preceded in death by her husband, Simon Edwin Fowler; and two brothers, James G. and George P. Connelly.She is survived by two sons, John A. Fowler of Millville and Edmund g. Fowler of Greenbelt, Md.; three daughters, Kathleen Helen Stebing of Millsboro, Diane Margaret Karhumaa of Edgewater, Md. and Colleen Dawn Apgar and husband Herbert of Millsboro; a brother, Patrick John Connelly and wife Adele of Huntingtown, Md.; two sisters-in-law, Laura Davene Connelly and Sally M. John “Jack” Lee Tyndall, 77, of Lewes, died Monday, Aug. 23, 2004, at Beebe Medical Center in Lewes.
Jack was born in Wilmington, Nov. 16, 1926. As a boy he spent his summers with relatives in Chincoteague, Va. He attended P.S. DuPont High School before enlisting in the U.S. Marine Corps during WW II, when he served in the Pacific Theater. After graduating from the P.M.C. in 1949 he went to work at the Hotel DuPont as a food cost accountant. He left DuPont to accept a position at Emery Air Freight due to a heart problem.
Jack moved to Lewes Beach, in a home he was proud of building himself. He was a member of the Lewes Yacht Club for 20 years, serving on numerous committees and a term as rear commodore. He also volunteered for several years as a guide on the Lightship Overfalls in Lewes. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting, fishing, and his black Labrador retriever, “Scooter.”
Jack is fondly remembered by his neighbors as the “Mayor of Clayton Street.”
He is survived by his devoted friend, Delores Brandt; his son, William S. Tyndall; his daughter, Sandra Lee Brennan; five grandchildren; two sisters, Janet Burtt of Georgetown, Texas and Betty LeBlond of Dunedon, Fla.; and a brother Howard Whitten of Wilmington.
According to his wishes, Jack will be cremated and his ashes spread over the Delaware Bay. There will be no services at this time.

Audrey Rose,

Audrey Rose, 82, of Lewes, died Wednesday, Aug. 25, 2004 at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Beth and Paul Ewell.
Mrs. Rose was born in Townsend. She graduated from Lewes High School in 1939. She worked as a dental assistant. She lived on Long Island, N.Y. until retiring to Lewes in 1975. Mrs. Rose was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church, the Lewes Senior Center and formerly volunteered at the Lewes Public Library.
She was preceded in death by her parents, J. Douglas and Ruby M. Conner; her husband of 43 years, Dr. Harold P. Rose; and a daughter, Catherine A. Bellas.
She is survived by her son, Robert C. Bellas Jr. of Portola Valley, Ca.; three daughters, Katherine E. Meatley of Riverhead, N.Y., Beth E. Ewell of Lewes, and Dawn Burton of Milton; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Services will be held at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 1449 Kings Highway, Lewes, Sunday, Aug. 29, at 2 p.m. Friends may call at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Bethel Methodist Cemetery.
