Evaleah G. Barr,
retired secretary
Evaleah G. Barr, 102, of Rehoboth Beach and formerly of Georgetown, died peacefully Wednesday, Sept. 15, 2004, at Brandywine Assisted Living at Seaside Pointe.
Mrs. Bar was born, raised and spent most of her life in Georgetown and Gravel Hill. She worked as a secretary for the Georgetown School District and for James T. Tunnel Sr. She also worked in the offices of Registrar of Wills, Recorder of Deeds, tax office and was Deputy Prothonotary. She retired from Henry Graves and Sons in 1966.
She was a lifelong member of Georgetown Presbyterian Church where she served on the Session for many years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Jennie Short Green of Georgetown; and siblings Lula King, Meta Joseph, Hazel Hammond and Joseph Green Sr. In 1923 she married Leroy Carey of Millsboro, who died in 1928. Her second marriage was to Andrew Barr of Georgetown, who died in a tragic construction accident in 1944.
She is survived by a daughter, Louise Carey Burton of Rehoboth Beach; three granddaughters, Rachel V. Coward and her husband David of Rehoboth Beach, Barbara E. Turek and her husband Lee of Georgetown and Martha L. Wyatt and her husband Bill of Lewes; six great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 18, at Georgetown Presbyterian Church, 203 N. Bedford St., where friends may call at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Union cemetery.
Gail Schroeder Fields,

Gail Schroeder Fields, 60, of Lewes, died Tuesday, Sept. 14, 2004 at home after a long illness.
Gail was the eldest child of the late Howard and Marian Schroeder of Lewes. Gail grew up on Pilottown Road and graduated from Lewes High School in the Class of 1961. She graduated from the University of Delaware in 1965 with a degree in psychology and was a caseworker for Baltimore City Hospitals and for the Hawaii Chapter of the American Red Cross during the Viet Nam War.
In 1970, Gail returned to the University of Delaware to earn a BA plus 30 in Elementary Education. She briefly taught 5th grade at Wm. Reilly Brown Elementary School in Dover and helped with her family’s art and gift shop, Art Age, in Rehoboth Beach.
Gail lived in North Carolina for 18 years. During that period she worked for the Chapel Hill Tennis Club for nine years and later was employed by the North Carolina Crafts Gallery, where she became very interested in regional crafts and often visited potters and artisans throughout the State. It was during this period that she studied bead design and made custom jewelry from semi-precious stones. She was an active member of Orange United Methodist Church in Chapel Hill where she loved singing in the choir, acting in and directing plays, and participating in small group studies.
As her illness progressed she longed to return to her hometown where she could walk near the ocean and watch the sunset from the Point in Cape Henlopen State Park. Gail moved into Nassau Station in Lewes in April 2003.
She is survived by her husband, Phil; brother Steve Schroeder of Acton, Ma.; brother Howard Schroeder of Chapel Hill, N.C.; brothers John and Rob Schroeder, both of Lewes; and sister Carole Schroeder Short of Lewes. She is also survived by two children, daughter Erika Fields of Lewes; and son Rob Fields and daughter-in-law Nicole Fields; and two grandchildren, Davis and Kyleigh, all of Fuquay-Varina, N.C.
Parsell Funeral Homes and Crematorium will cremate the body. A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 18, at Bethel United Methodist Church on Fourth Street in Lewes.

Jeanne M. Luttrell,

Jeanne M. Luttrell, 76, of Dover, died Tuesday, Sept. 14, 2004, at BayHealth Medical Center, Dover.
Born in Batavia, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Anthony and Lucy Rogers Stella. Mrs. Luttrell had served as an executive secretary for the Capital School District until her retirement in 1987. Upon her retirement she had enjoyed traveling with her husband to see family and friends and had spent her quieter moments at their beach house in Sussex County and in Florida.
When family members were asked to remark on Jeanne’s interests and hobbies, it was evident that her devotion to her husband and family consumed most of the time she had spent on earth. Though seemingly small and fragile, especially toward the end of her life, she exhibited an amazing strength and grace that was so apparent. One of her favorite hymns was “Amazing Grace” and that in itself best describes the woman, wife and mother that was Jeanne M. Luttrell.
Throughout the years, Mrs. Luttrell had been an active member of Holy Cross Church in Dover and was a participant in the Holy Cross Prayer Group. She had also been a member of the Delaware Retired State Employees Association.
She is survived by her husband of 54 years, William C. Luttrell of Dover; three daughters, Denise Warner of Harbeson, Jan A. Hyatt of Harbeson and Andrea B. Thomas of Lancaster, Pa.; her special son-in-law, Mark Warner of Dover; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m., Friday, Sept. 17, at Holy Cross Church, South State Street, Dover, with burial in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Millsboro.

Mary “Esther” Taylor Webb, 87, of Lewes, died Tuesday, Sept. 14, 2004, at Riverside Long Term Care in Wilmington.
Esther was born July 8, 1917 in Arden, Pa. to Howard C. Taylor and Minnie M. “Bunting” Taylor. She retired from Beebe Medical Center after working 19 years in the Housekeeping Department. She was a 37-year member of the American Legion Post 17 Auxiliary in Lewes where she was their Gold Star Mother. She enjoyed cooking, gardening and crocheting.
Mrs. Webb was preceded in death by her parents; her former husband Lee Arnold Webb, 1973; her son, Howard L. Webb, who was killed in Vietnam on June 8, 1967; and her brother, Clifford Taylor.
She is survived by two daughters, Susan Fisher of Lewes with whom she lived, and Nancy Lowery and her husband, Roy, of Seaford; one sister, Anna Werner and her husband, Reds, of St. Augustine, Fla.; and her former sister-in-law, Pauline Catlano of Wilmington. In addition, she had eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Sept. 18, at 11 a.m., at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 1449 Kings Highway, Lewes. Friends may call one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Dagsboro Redmens Memorial cemetery.

Gregory S. Kramedas,
Dover hotel developer
Gregory Seeros Kramedas, 67, of Dover, died Tuesday, Sept. 14, 2004, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Mr. Kramedas was born in Wilmington, the son of the late Samuel and Mary Anastaskakos Kramedas. He graduated from Rehoboth High School and attended the University of Delaware, where he played football as a running back. He was the owner of the Hub Restaurant in Dover and became the largest hotel developer in the state. He was awarded the Small Businessman of the Year. He was the winner of the Kent County tourism Award, Delaware Economic Development Award, Dover Air Force Base Honorary Commander and Restaurant Man of the Year.
Mr. Kramedas also served as the Kent County Commissioner of Parks and Recreation. He was a member of the Hotel/Motel Association, Rotary Club,, Lions Club, Delaware Boys and Girls Club and Central Delaware Economic Development.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Theodore in 1981 and John and Thomas, both in 1985.
He is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Tina Kramedas; a son, Thomas Kramedas of Dover; two daughters and a son-in-law, Desiree Kramedas of Rehoboth Beach and Sophia Kramedas-Ghanayem and John Ghanayem of Dover; a grandson, James Thomas; a brother and sister-in-law, William and Genie Kramedas of Lewes; a sister and brother-in-law, Sophia and Thomas Mamakos of New Jersey; a sister-in-law, Maria Kramedas of Wilmington; a brother-in-law and his wife, Joseph and Phyllis Petrosky of Dover; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, Sept. 17, at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 631 S. State St., Dover. Burial will be in Holy Cross cemetery.

S. McGill Gawthrop,
retired Delaware banker
S. McGill Gawthrop, 89, died Monday, Sept. 13, 2004, at Cokesbury Village, Hockessin.
Mr. Gawthrop attended Tower Hill School, Westminster School in Simsbury, Ct., and Princeton University. He did graduate work at Stonier School of Banking at Rutgers University and the American Institute of Banking. He began his career in banking as a messenger for Equitable Trust Co. in 1935. He held various positions in branch administration at the Bank of Delaware and its predecessors for 45 years and retired in 1980 as senior vice president.
He served in the U.S. Army during WWII in the South Pacific. He was active in civic, charitable and educational organizations. He was past president and a board member of the West End Neighborhood House; treasurer and board member of the Brandywine River Museum; treasurer and chairman of the finance committee and board member of Tatnall School; president and board member of Family Services of Northern Delaware; a member of the national board of directors of the Family Service Association of America and a member of the State of Delaware Advisory Council of the Mid-Atlantic Chapter of the American Automobile Association.
In addition, he served on the boards of the Wilmington Country Club, Ingleside Episcopal Home, Delaware Chapter of the Leukemia Society of America, the Greater Wilmington Development Council, the Delaware Academy of Medicine, the Child Diagnostic and Development Center, the Delaware Congress of parents and Teachers and the Delaware Association for Retarded Children. He was an avid tennis and squash player at the Wilmington Country Club and won numerous local, regional and national titles.
Gill is survived by his wife of 62 years, Helen Lloyd Kitchel Gawthrop; his son, Sam and his wife Jackie, of Chesapeake City, Md.; his daughter, Randy and her husband Murray Sawyer of Wilmington; his son Lloyd of Berwyn, Pa.; his son Charles and his wife Carol of Hockessin; his daughter Mimi and her husband George Walls of Milton; his son Jim and his wife Deri of Unionville, Pa.; 12 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Elizabeth Canby Bush and her husband Henry of Cokesbury Village.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 18, at Christ Church, Greenville, with burial private.

Lewis R. Jamison, 58, of Bear, died Tuesday, Sept. 14, 2004, at Christiana Hospital.
Mr. Jamison worked for Pathmark for 33 years. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed fishing and crabbing.
He was preceded in death by his stepson, Wilbert Hutchinson Jr. He is survived by his wife, Wilma Woepple Jamison; a son, Randy Jamison and his wife Susan of Middletown; a daughter, Kandi Petrillo and her husband Mark of Boothwyn, Pa.; stepdaughters June Stewart and her companion, Bob Vernon, of Milton, Dot Tiffany of Bear and Kathy Barczykowski and her husband Steve, of Middletown; 11 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, Sept. 17, at Gebhart Funeral Home, Limestone and Milltown roads, Wilmington, where friends may visit at 9 a.m. Burial will be in Lombardy Cemetery, Concord Pike.

James Donald Grillo, 54, of Lewes, died Saturday, Sept. 4, 2004, at Beebe Medical Center.
Mr. Grillo was born Feb. 28, 2004, in Reading, Pa., the son of Benjamin Grillo and the late Shirley K. Heist Grillo.
He worked as a laborer in the construction industry.
Besides his father, he is survived by a sister, Pat Mistishun of Reading; a brother, Anthony Grillo of Reading; four sons, Tyler Grillo, Robbie Grillo, Jodi Grillo and Christopher Grillo, all of Reading; a daughter, Deona Grillo of Reading; and a niece, Candi Graul of Reading.

Bennett Clamp, 62, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 18, 2004, at home.
Mr. Clamp was a beautician at Hair Ways Salon in Ocean Pines, Berlin, Md.
His survivors are William Holman of Beachfield, Rehoboth Beach, and Billy Pat Clamp of Washington, D.C.

Adeline “Lena” Bruce, 83, of North Wilmington, died Saturday, Sept. 11, 2004, in St. Francis Hospital, Wilmington.
Mrs. Bruce worked on the assembly line of Whitman’s Chocolates in her earlier years. She was also the family historian.
She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 29 years, Charles W. Bruce; her daughter, Mary Layer of Honesdale, Pa; her stepsons, Charles Bruce of Jennersville, Pa., and Gary Bruce of Rehoboth
Pauline J. Downes,

Pauline J. Bocox Downes, 63, of Greenwood, died Friday, Sept. 10, 2004, at her residence.
Mrs. Downes had worked over the years as a caregiver for many in their homes. She was the daughter of the late Paul and Elizabeth Bocox Downes and was born in Pulaski, Va. on April 9, 1941
She is survived by her husband Howard Martin Downes; four daughters, Theresa Bare and Debbie Davis, both of Wilkesboro, N.C.; Kathy Hayes of Preston, Md., and Tammy Crawford of Magnolia; two sons, Howard Downes of Salisbury, Md. and Keith Downes of Snow Hill, Md.; four sisters, Dorothy Bush of Greenwood, Delphia Gilley of Milford, Helen Mitchum of Anawalt, W. Va., and Eugenia March of Lewes; one brother, Stanley Craft of Greenwood; fourteen grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by a brother Stevie Craft.
Arrangements are being handled by Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Hardesty Chapel, 202 Laws Street, Bridgeville, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 14. Funeral service will be at the funeral home at 2 p.m., Wednesday, September 15.

Elva M. Wilkerson,

Elva M. Wilkerson, 89, of Milton, died Saturday, Sept. 11, 2004, at her sister’s home in Harbeson.
Mrs. Wilkerson was born Dec. 5, 1914, in Georgetown, the daughter of the late Eli and Rhoda Smith Wilkerson. She was a lifelong resident of Sussex County. She had worked as an inspector for Burris Foods in Milford before retiring. Ms. Wilkerson attended Grace Church in Milton.
She is survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Catherine and Roy Hellens of Harbeson; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 15, at Short Funeral Services, 416 Federal St., Milton, where friends may call at 1 p.m. Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Milton.
