Mary Ann Parker Vincent

Mary Ann Parker Vincent, 83, of Bridgeville, died Saturday, April 15, 2006, at her late place of residence.
She was born March 14, 1923, in Bridgeville, daughter of the late Luther and Blanche Truitt Rust.
In her early years of employment, Mrs. Vincent had worked at the Sussex Guide, a publication company, as a darkroom technician. She also worked as a waitress at the Seaford Golf and Country Club, the former Harley’s Restaurant in Seaford, and the Seaford Inn. During World War II, she had worked at a munitions plant. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and over the years attended Concord United Metho-dist Church in Seaford as well as Union United Methodist Church in Bridgeville. She was a former member of the Eastern Star, Seaford, and was a member of the Nanticoke Senior Center and the Red Hat Society. Most importantly, she was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who will be missed by all. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Carl T. Vincent in 1980; a stepson, Robert Vincent in 2004; and by two brothers, Carlton and Ralph, both formerly of Bridgeville.
She is survived by four sons: Carl E. “Buddy” Parker III of Bridgeville; Eddie J. Parker of Bridgeville; James S. Parker of Seaford; Gerald A. Parker of Greenwood; her daughter, Kay L. Parker Chaffinch of Seaford; a stepdaughter, Carol Thornton of Denton, Md.; a daughter-in-law, Martha Vincent of Seaford; 17 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and two sisters: Ruth Spicer of Bridgeville and Irene Tucker of Greenwood.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m., Thursday, April 20, at Union United Methodist Church, Market and Laws streets, Bridgeville, with the Rev. Gary Tulak officiating. Friends may call at the church two hours prior to services. Interment will be at Odd Fellows cemetery
in Seaford.

Jerry S. Guyer,
retired from Woolworth
Jerry S. Guyer, 79, of Milford, died Saturday, April 8, 2006, in Bayhealth-Milford Memorial Hospital.
He was a World War II veteran serving with the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Mercy Hospital Ship as a cook.
Mr. Guyer was the manager of F.W. Woolworth in Milford for 48 years; he was the only Woolworth employee to have been with a store from its grand opening until its final day of operation.
He also drove a school bus for the Milford School District for 25 years and especially enjoyed driving the bus for Milford High School sporting events.
Mr. Guyer loved and adored his family and his community. He was appointed by Mayor Ronnie Rogers as a chairman for the Parks and Recreation Department of Milford, where he was an integral part of the program’s development.
He served as past president, treasurer and lifetime member of the board of directors for the Milford Little League, past president of Milford Pop Warner football, finance officer, Hirsch fund administrator and past commander of American Legion Post 3, past member of Milford Elks Lodge, Milford Jaycees and Milford Kiwanis, past member and past president of the Milford Rotary Club, where he also served as co-chair of their annual sports banquet, and honorary member of the Carlisle Fire Co.
He was a member of the Calvary United Methodist Church, Milford, as administrative board member and past member of the United Methodist Men.
Mr. Guyer enjoyed flowers, especially Jerry’s Jungle and was a sports fan.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Betty Fuller Guyer; two daughters and two sons-in-law, Marianne and Terry Wink of Lincoln, and Dianne and Jimmy Calhoun of Milton; two sons and two daughters-in-law, Jerry D. and Karen Guyer of Ellendale, and Lester and Dawn Guyer of Lincoln; two sisters, Pauline Englerth of Washington State, Mary Jane Cool of Altoona, Pa.; seven grandchildren, Timothy Wink, Eric Wink, Brad McPherson and his wife Tina, Kristy Parsons and her husband Jeremy, Jessica Guyer, Katy Carisward and her husband Guy, and Rebecca Guyer; eight great-grandchildren, Colby Wink, Christopher Wink, Zachary Wink, Tyler Messick, Brent McPherson, Brendon McPherson, Brianna Parsons and Cody Parsons.
Services were held in the Reformation Lutheran Church, Milford. Burial was in Henlopen Memorial Park, Milton.
Flowers are accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the organization of choice.
Oscar Harmon Jr.,

Oscar Edward “Sport” Harmon Jr., 69, of Oak Orchard, died Friday, April 7, 2006, at home.
He was born in Millsboro.
Mr. Harmon was an auto body specialist for Sharpless in Strafford, Pa.
He is survived by a son, Lamont Clark of Boothwyn, Pa.; three daughters, Lisa Harmon of Dover, Linda Harmon of Marina Del Rey, Calif. and Angela Harmon of Newark; a brother, Edward Harmon of Lansdale, Pa.; four sisters, Carrie Davis of Millsboro, Shirley Shock of Port Tobacco, Md., Constance Baker of Millsboro and Ardith Mosley of Millsboro; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Services were held at Watson Funeral Home, Millsboro, with burial in Indian Mission Church cemetery , Millsboro.

Elizabeth Ellen Smith,

Elizabeth Ellen Burton Smith, 97, of Millsboro, died Saturday, April 8, 2006, at Green Valley Terrace, Millsboro.
Mrs. Smith was born in Millsboro, the daughter of the late Harvey Burton and Emma Harmon Burton.
She was a self-employed cook. She was deeply involved in the church throughout her life.
She served in many church organizations and was the last surviving member of the United Gospel Choir and the Burton Sisters Singers of Millsboro. She traveled all over the Eastern Shore performing.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Dave Harmon and Edward Smith; her children, Sylvester Harmon, Cornelius Harmon, Grace Barnhill and Charlotte Burton.
She is survived by a son, Voyd Harmon and his wife Bettie of Millsboro; a daughter, Vanessa Smith of Lewes; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at noon, Sunday, April 15, at Harmony United Methodist Church, Route 24, Millsboro, with the Rev. Claudia Waters presiding.
Burial will be in Harmony United Methodist cemetery , Millsboro.

James J. Bossert,
Army veteran
James J. Bossert, 67, of Lewes, passed away Sunday, April 9, 2006, at Beebe Medical Center in Lewes.
He was born June 21, 1938 in Wilmington, son of the late Frank Bossert and the late Anna (Devlin) Bossert.
Mr. Bossert became a fulltime resident of Lewes in 1988 after vacationing in Lewes for 20 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
He was also a member of the American Legion Post 5 in Rehoboth Beach, VFW Post 7447 in Rehoboth Beach, the Cape Henlopen Elks Lodge 2540, and the Lewes-Rehoboth Moose Lodge 646. James played the guitar, enjoyed fishing, metal detecting, kayaking, traveling and surfing. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.
He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Patricia A. (Morris) Bossert; a daughter, Lisa A. Fahey of Lewes; a son, Gerald W. Fahey and his wife Barbara of Newark; three grandsons, Jacob, Nicholas and Vincent Fahey; a sister, Kathleen Johnson of Newark; and a brother, Frank Bossert of Orman Beach, Fla.
Services were held at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, Lewes, with interment with military honors will at Delaware Veterans Memorial cemetery
in Millsboro.

Aggie Irene Batson,

Aggie Irene Batson, 51, of Milton, died Friday, April 7, 2006.
She was born May 28, 1954, in Exmore, Va., daughter of the late Virginia Mae Davis and John Carlton Elmandorf.
Mrs. Batson received her formal education at Cape Henlopen High School, Lewes, where she graduated in 1972.
For 27 years, she was employed at Stockley Center as a nurse’s aide in Georgetown. While working at Stockley Center, she blessed and touched the lives of many people until she retired.
She was a member of Missionary Baptist Church, Georgetown.
Mrs. Batson’s hobbies included fishing, spending time with her loved ones and her loving dog, “Snowball”, whom she considered a third son.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Makiya J. Elmandorf; and her best friend, Judice S. Brown.
She is survived by her husband, Thurman A. Batson, whom she married on April 13, 1987; two sons, Brandon N. Elmandorf and Tremaine C. Batson, both of Milton; a stepson, Thurman A. White; her stepmother, Barbara Elmandorf; mother-in-law, Delma M. Batson; father-in-law, William J. Batson; four brothers, Tyrone E. Tingle of Richmond, Va., Jeffery Davis of Pocomoke, Md., Bryan Elmandorf of Painter, Va., and Curtis Elmandorf of Dover; five sisters, Michelle Cannon of Milton, Margaret Jubilee of Accomack, Va., Sylvia Blake of Douglasville, Ga., Carolyn Johnson of Berlin, and Vanessa Portillo of Berlin; three brothers-in-law, Preston Cannon, Anthony Reese, and William L. Batson; two sisters-in-law, Alvenia M. Reese, and Paulette Tingle; special friends, Helen E. Johnson, and Betty Trammell; special nieces and nephews, Troy, Camarun, Tyra, Marcus and Tyrese; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held St. John’s Baptist Church, Millsboro, with burial in the church’s cemetery.
Edward A. Clungeon,
retired teacher
LONG NECK - Edward A. Clungeon, 75, of Long Neck, formerly of Collegeville, Pa., died Sunday, April 9, 2006 in Beebe Medical Center, Lewes.
He was born Oct. 2, 1930, son of the late Kenneth and Mildred (Marquetand) Clungeon.
Mr. Clungeon was a Korean War veteran, serving in the U.S. Army in the Marianna Islands, Japan and Korea. He received the Korean Service Medal with two Bronze Stars, Occupation of Japan Medal, and a Good Conduct Medal.
He was a teacher in Springfield Township teaching elementary education. He also taught at Big Springs High School, and taught military at Fort Dix, N.J., as a civilian.
Mr. Clungeon was also a corrections officer at Graterford Prison in Pennsylvania for 15 years from which he retired.
He was a Native American also known as Edward Red Bear and Paharnittsi Angkapi (Shoshone), and was a member of the Council of Indian Nations.
Mr. Clungeon was a member of Skippack Township’s Park and Recreation Board and the Shade Tree Commission.
He was also a member of the National Rifle Association, Lower Frederick Fire Co., Gauglersville Fire Co., the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Ocean City, N.J., the American Legion in both Spring City, Pa., and Millsboro, and the Korean War veterans in Millsboro.
Mr. Clungeon was the football coach for Wyndmoor Bantams, Keystone League, and an Indian Jewelry designer.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Patricia (Eustace) Clungeon, and Virginia A. (Hudelson) Clungeon.
He is survived by his third wife, Patricia (McIlhenny) Clungeon; two sons, E. Bruce Clungeon of Egg Harbor, N.J., and Scott Clungeon of Minasha, Wis.; a daughter, Denise Pastino of Poccono Lake, Pa.; two sisters, Arlene Unger of Mt. Penn, Pa., and Sandra Rosencrans of Wyomis, Pa.; two stepsons, Robert Young of Levittown, Pa. and Nicholas Young, stationed in Okinawa, Japan, and six grandchildren.
Services were held at R.L. Williams Jr. Funeral Home Inc., Skippack, Pa., with burial in Whitemarsh Memorial Park, Whitemarsh, Pa.
Ralph “Sud” Emerson,
founded Pennwood Acres
Ralph Sudler “Sud” Emerson, 89, of Dover died suddenly Friday, April 7, 2006, in his home.
He was born June 11, 1916, son of the late Ralph W. and Justine (Chambers) Emerson of Wyoming.
Mr. Emerson attended Caesar Rodney High School and the Mount Herman School in Northfield, Mass. Later, he attended Goldey Beacom College and the University of Delaware.
He proudly served in the U.S. Army in Italy during World War II.
Mr. Emerson married Sara Crossley and went into the produce brokerage business with his father in 1938. In its day, Ralph W. Emerson & Co. was one of the largest produce brokerages in the East and included trucking and packaging divisions.
He traveled extensively in his business, beginning each year with lengthy stays in Louisiana and Florida following the strawberry crop, which he brokered in New York City and other Northeast metropolitan points.
In 1971, Mr. Emerson founded the residential subdivision he named “Pennwood Acres.” He was often seen on his red motor scooter, monitoring the progress of the development that became for him a major source of pride.
He possessed an adventurous spirit and love of life, collecting a diverse group of friends and mastering numerous hobbies. He was a skilled horseman, tennis and bridge player, as well as a talented dancer and a big band music enthusiast.
Mr. Emerson’s boyhood fascination with trains and engines was a precursor to hobbies like motorcycling, boating and even piloting his plane.
He was a proud man who wanted to stay active, his hobbies later included walking, horseshoes, and most especially, taking friends and neighbors boating and fishing from his Dover home to the Delaware Bay.
Mr. Emerson also was a long-time Rotarian and ardent supporter of his local Boy Scout Troop.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Sara.
He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth and Neal Moerschel of Rehoboth Beach; a son and daughter-in-law, R. Pennell and Sharon Emerson of Rehoboth Beach; three grandchildren, Frederick A. Townsend III, Stuart E. Townsend and R.P. Chadwick Emerson; and three great-grandchildren, Frederick “Rick” Townsend, Sara Townsend and Jack Townsend.
Services were private, with burial in Camden Friends Meeting House.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the Kent County SPCA, 32 Shelter Circle, Camden, DE 19934.
