Helen B. Baker, 98

Helen B. Baker of Millsboro, 98, died Monday, April 3, 2006, in Chancellor Care Center, Delmar.
Mrs. Baker was born in Georgetown, daughter of the late Carl E. and Jennie (Adams) Parker.
She had worked as an attendant with Stockley Center for five years, after which she retired to help raise her grandchildren.
Mrs. Baker continued caring for children once her grandchildren were school age. Through Howard T. Ennis, she worked as an aid, then foster grandparent, from 1978 to 1990.
Her love of children spilled over again to her family, and Mrs. Baker lovingly cared for her great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Baker enjoyed sewing, stockcar and NASCAR racing, and baseball.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband in 1960; and eight brothers and sisters.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Marshall and Charline Baker of Seaford; a daughter, Joyce Heck of Millsboro; five grandchildren, Dale Carey of Lewes, Dean Heck of Georgetown, Dwayne Heck of Milton, Donni Heck of Laurel, and Dana Weller of Georgetown; 10 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Vietta Millman of Milton, and Margaret Wootten of Millsboro; and a brother, Alfred Parker of Georgetown.
Services were Thursday, April 6, in the chapel of Short Funeral Services in Georgetown.
Burial was at Asbury United Methodist Church cemetery , Georgetown.
Henry Carlsen Buchanan Sr.
union plumber
Henry “Herk” Carlsen Buchanan Sr., of Landenberg, Pa., 68, passed away on Sunday, April 2, 2006, at his home. He was the husband of Ann Walker Buchanan, with whom he shared 21 years of marriage.
Born in Wilmington, he was the son of the late Charles and Lillian Hilyard Buchanan. He was a union plumber and a member of Local 74 Plumbers and Pipe Fitters of Wilmington.
He retired in 1998 after 40 years of service. He was a member of Odd Fellows Lodge in White Haven, Pa., and Delaware Anglers and Gunners Club. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, hunting, building, doing home renovation and playing slot machines. He loved traveling all over the world with his wife. Herk was a very caring and giving man who was loved by everyone and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by son, Carl Buchanan of West Grove, John Kerrigan and his wife Tammy of Greenville, and James Kerrigan and his wife, Brigid, of Wilmington; three daughters, Robin Pusey of Chatham, Kelly Mark and her husband Howard of West Grove, and Linda Ellingsworth and her husband Mark of New London; one brother, Robert Buchanan of Clearwater, Fla.; one sister, Norma Woolman and her husband Joseph of Hockessin; one sister-in-law, Doris Buchanan, of Lewes; and 13 grandchildren. He was predeceased by two sisters, Lillian Litchford and Lorraine Thompson; one brother, Charles Buchanan; and one granddaughter, Amber Pusey.
A memorial service was Thursday, April 6, at New London Presbyterian Church in New London, Pa. Committal will follow in the adjacent church cemetery.

Nell Thompson Robertson,
retired teacher
Nell Thompson Robertson, 89, passed away Sunday, April 2, 2006, at Beebe Medical Center in Lewes.
She was born March 31, 1917 in Thomasville, Ga., daughter of the late Cicero Leon and Mabel Thompson.
Mrs. Robertson graduated from Brenau University in Georgia in 1937. She married John F. Robertson June 10, 1937 in Thomasville, Ga. She taught elementary school in Rockville, Md. for 15 years. Her many friends knew her for her love of gardening.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter Linda Nell Robertson, two brothers, and one sister.
In addition to her husband of 68 years, she is survived by two daughters, Joan R. McClure and her husband Steve, and Cynthia R. Smith and her husband Michael.
A memorial service was held at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, with interment will be private.

William J. Cannon,
World War II veteran
William Joseph “Junior” Cannon of Rehoboth Beach, 86, died Monday, March 27, 2006, in Bayhealth-Milford Memorial Hospital.
He was born July 26, 1919, son of the late Edward and Anna Cannon.
Mr. Cannon received his education at Rehoboth Elementary School, Milton High School and graduated from Delaware State College (Delaware State University).
He enlisted in the U.S. Army Jan. 30, 1943, and served until Jan. 14, 1946.
Mr. Cannon worked at several different occupations.
He was a faithful member of Bethel A.M.E. Church in Milton.
Mr. Cannon was loved by many and was very humorous. He loved chicken, and when chicken was served, he would often say, “Chickens sure have a hard time.”
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Ella M. Cannon; a sister, Anna Cannon; and one brother, Raymond Cannon.
He is survived by a son, James Daniels of Frederica; a brother, John Cannon of Rehoboth Beach; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral services were held in the Bennie Smith Funeral Home, Dover, with burial in the Delaware Veterans Memorial cemetery , Millsboro.
Johnnie M. Beebe
retired from Oak Forest
Johnnie M. Beebe of Georgetown, 69, died Monday, April 3, at home.
Mr. Beebe was born in Ellendale the son of the late John and Elsie Truitt Beebe.
Mr. Beebe was retired from Forest Oak School District, where he served as a maintenance engineer. He was a member of AmVets Post 2 in Millsboro, American Legion Post 24 and Benevolent Protective Order of Elks Lodge in Selbyville. He was a diehard Eagles and Phillies fan. He loved fishing and a good cigar or a good cold beer. He was one helluva guy and great brother. He was a devoted lover of animals, and he loved his dogs: Lindsay, Jackie, Gracie and Rosies; his cat, Cherokee; and his parakeet, Rachel.
He is survived by his sister, Rose M. Gerace and her husband, John, of Georgetown; two brothers – Lester Beebe and his wife, Joyce, of Lincoln, and Jim Beebe and his wife, Carol, of Mt. City, Tenn.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services and interment will be private. Arrangements by Watson Funeral Home in Millsboro.
Norman McGinnis,
retired plant engineer
Norman McGinnis, 68, of Millsboro, died Thursday, April 5, 2006 at his residence.
Born in Philadelphia to John and Alice Miller McGinnis, he was plant manager for Automatic Timing Controls of King of Prussia, Pa., before retiring after a long career. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Florence McHugh McGinnis; a son, John McGinnis and his wife Michelle of Horsham, Pa.; a daughter, Mary Ellen Leonard and her husband Arthur “Bud” and a granddaughter, Kylee.
He was president of Magnolia Meadows Home Owners Association in Millsboro and a member of the Cape Henlopen Elks Lodge of Lewes. He will be missed by all.
Services will be at 1 p.m., Sunday, April 9, at Watson Funeral Home, 211 Washington St., Millsboro, where friends may call one hour private. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Millsboro Fire Company, P.O. Box 83, Millsboro, DE 19966.
Henry A. Davis,
retired supervisor
Henry A. Davis, 69, of Millsboro, died Sunday, April 2, 2006, at Beebe Medical Center, Lewes.
Mr. Davis was a retired maintenance supervisor for the Winterthur Museum in Wilmington and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ida and Charles Davis, and his brothers, Thomas and Howard Davis.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy Lou Farmer Davis; a daughter, Connie Lynn Morrison; two sons, Keith Alvin Davis and Paul Steven Davis; three sisters, Alice Birch, Patricia Robinson and Sandra Callahan; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Services and burial were private.

Raymond W. Lloyd,
poultry specialist
Raymond W. “Ray” Lloyd, 92, of Georgetown, passed away Wednesday, March 29, 2006, at Bayhealth at Milford Memorial Hospital.
Born in Cape May County, N.J., he graduated from Rutgers University and the University of Delaware. He taught vocational agriculture for 15 years in New York and Pennsylvania. Ray joined the University of Delaware Agriculture Extension Service as an associate county agent in 1953. He later became a state extension poultry specialist and was widely known in the Delmarva poultry industry. Upon retirement in 1973, he served on the Sussex County and state of Delaware Mental Health Commissions.
Ray was an active member of the Wesley U.M. Church, and after moving to Milford, attended Calvary U.M. Church. He was also an active member of the AARP, Midland Grange and the Georgetown Lions Club. He was a passionate gardener and was locally known for his roses and vegetables. He enjoyed traveling, photography and spending time with his family.
Survivors include his loving wife of 65 years, Marguerite Moyer Lloyd, residing in The Heritage at Milford; three children, Janet Walker and her husband, S. Derby of Laurel, David Lloyd and his wife Sharon of Silver Spring, Md., and Karen Jones and her husband Bill of Hockessin. He is also survived by six grandchildren; and five great grand-children.
A Celebration of Life service will be at 1 p.m., Wednesday, April 5, in the sanctuary at Wesley U.M. Church, 102 E. Laurel St., Georgetown.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Wesley U.M. Church; or to Delaware Hospice, 20167 Office Circle, Georgetown, DE 19947.

Raymond C. Edmanson,
World War II veteran
Raymond C. Edmanson Jr., 82 of Newark, passed away Thursday, March 30, 2006, at Manor Care, Pike Creek.
Mr. Edmanson was born in Newark on Sept. 5, 1923, the son of the late Raymond and Frances Backoff Edmanson. He was a supervisor at Chrysler Corp., retiring after 23 years of service. A veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, Ray fought in World War II in the South Pacific. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 475 in Newark, Hiram Lodge 25, the Nur Temple and the Delaware Saengerbund. Mr. Edmanson was a member of Newark United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Liliane D. Edmanson; a son, Ray Ellis Edmanson and his wife, Amy, of Newark; a daughter, Betty; granddaughter, Kristen Edmanson of Newark and his brother, Wallace Edmanson and his wife, Nancy, of Milton.
A funeral service will be at 1 p.m., Wednesday, April 5, at R.T. Foard & Jones Funeral Home, 122 West Main St., Newark, DE 19711. Friends and family may call at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Delaware Veterans Memorial cemetery , Bear.

beloved wife, mother
H. Elizabeth “Betty” Becker, 72 of Ulysses, Pa., formerly of Newark, died Friday, March 31, 2006.
Born Feb. 25, 1934, in Chadds Ford, Pa., she was the daughter of Joseph H. and Ann M. Robinson Talley. On May 2, 1953, in Chadds Ford, she married Joseph F. Becker, who survives.
Surviving besides her husband are a daughter, Dawn (Dennis) Huss of Rehoboth Beach; three sons, Allen J. Becker of Newark, Gerald G. Becker of Sedona, Ariz., and Phillip R. (Catherine) Becker of Newark; seven grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and two brothers, S. Thomas (Diane) Talley II of Sabinsville and Joseph Talley of Parker Hill - Levittown, Pa.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m., Thursday, April 6, at Holy Family Church, Gender Road, Newark. The Rev. James Nash will be the celebrant. Private burial will be in Delaware Veterans Memorial cemetery
in Bear.

Kelly J. FitzGerald,

Kelly J. “Gypsy” FitzGerald, 43, of Lincoln, died suddenly Friday, March 31, 2006 in Bayhealth Medical Center-Milford Memorial Hospital.
Kelly was born Dec. 8, 1962, in Milford, the daughter of Robert FitzGerald and June (Clogg) Clendaniel. She was a graduate of Cape Henlopen High School and continued her education at Edison Community College in Ft. Myers, Fla., where she received her associate of arts degree. Kelly was first and foremost a devoted mother. The driving force in her life was raising her two daughters, whom she loved fiercely. Kelly home-schooled her daughters Rhiannon and Morgan, and had deep bonds of love for the two. Her daughters returned her love equally and she was their guide, mentor, best friend and devoted mother to them.
She loved both of her parents and brother deeply, as well as her extended family and was loyal to her friends. She was the most honest, moral and loving person as well as the best friend to her husband Steve. Kelly was a published author and photographer and was developing a business devoted to both. Her published work is a book called “In-Hand” on the topic of showing dressage horses in hand. She had hoped to publish several fiction stories she had worked on over the years. She was an avid horse photographer and possessed a keen eye for beautiful photographs. She loved riding and showing horses, having ridden horses since childhood. Kelly loved her farm and raised a small herd of horses. She taught her daughters to raise horses, chickens, turtles, cats, pigeons and dogs.
She did a beautiful job of providing a rich farm life for her children. She loved gardening, herbs, flowers and fruit trees. You cannot walk anywhere on the family farm without seeing her beautiful touch in the many flowers, gardens and trees she planted. Kelly was a free spirit and loved dancing, which her friends can testify to her beautiful dancing. Kelly’s hopes and dreams included traveling to Ireland, Hawaii, the Caribbean and New Zealand, which now her husband and daughters will have to fulfill in her honor.
She is survived by her husband of 18 years Steven D. Lorah; two daughters Rhiannon FitzGerald-Lorah and Morgan FitzGerald-Lorah; her mother June (Clogg) Clendaniel, of Milton; her father Robert FitzGerald, of Lincoln; one brother Boyd FitzGerald of New Mexico; a half brother Kirby FitzGerald of Los Angeles; a half sister Meghan FitzGerald of Lincoln; a step-brother, Jeff Semans of Milford, and many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Kelly’s Life will be celebrated at 2 p.m., Thursday, April 6, at Lofland Funeral Home, 102 Lakeview Ave., Milford, where friends may call one hour prior.
Lawrence W. Bailey,
retired from General Foods
Lawrence W. Bailey, 81, of Lincoln, died Friday, March 31, 2006, in Bayhealth Medical Center-Milford Memorial Hospital.
He was born June 17, 1924, in Lincoln, son of the late Walter D. and Elizabeth (Blair) Bailey.
Mr. Bailey was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps, serving his country during World War II. He was employed for 23 years with General Foods, Dover, packaging products in their chocolate department. He retired in 1987.
Mr. Bailey found great joy in gardening and raising animals.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth L. Bailey, in 2005.
He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Richard L. and Connie Bailey of Lincoln; a daughter and son-in-law, Maggie and Lonnie Watson of Lincoln; a brother, Oscar B. Bailey of Redden; four sisters, Florence Landis of New Castle, Sylvia Williamson of Lincoln, Bessie Christopher of Seaford and Hazel Dickerson of Milton; three grandchildren, Tina M. Plump, Tammy L. Bailey and Larry Watson; and two great-grandchildren, Megan E. Plump and Brooke A. Plump.
Services were held in Rogers Funeral Home, Milford, with burial private.
