Robert J. Anderson

Robert “Robbie” J. Anderson, 51, of Rehoboth Beach, died Monday, May 15, 2006, at his late residence.
He was born May 5, 1955 in Wilmington, son of the late Arthur John Anderson Jr. and Mildred “Midge” Durham Anderson Killinger of Lewes.
Mr. Anderson was a flooring subcontractor for Anderson Carpet One.
Robbie enjoyed spending time with his brother at the racetrack, and he loved his nieces and nephews dearly. He was an avid fan of the Eagles and football pools. He played in the Blue & Gold game in 1973 and he loved his dog “Fannie.”
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his brother Stephen E. Anderson and his wife Lezlie of Rehoboth Beach; his sister, Dawn A. Fehrenbach and her partner Patrick M. Smith of Lewes; his sister-like cousin Karen Monaco of Wilmington; his sister-in-law Toni Ann Reed of Newark; his former wife, Joni Weber of Harbeson; his former mother-in-law Carol Weber of Harbeson; twin daughters, Allison and Rebecca of Lewes; nieces and nephews, Ashley and Jaime Anderson, Aryn Anderson, Kelly, Justin and Chase Fehrenbach, and Mackenzie Smith; and many loving aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his brother Arthur John Anderson III; his stepfather Joseph Michael Killinger; and his pet dog “Fannie.”
Funeral services will be held Friday, May 19, 1 p.m., at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, with Pastor Donald Schaefer officiating. Burial will follow at All Saints’ cemetery , near Angola. Friends may call at the funeral home Thursday, May 18, 7-9 p.m., and Friday, May 19, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Mary Ann Fryberger,
retail sales associate
Mary Ann Fryberger, 70, of Lewes, formerly of Ranshaw, Pa., died Saturday, May 13, 2006, in her home.
Mrs. Fryberger was born March 21, 1936, in Ranshaw, daughter of the late I. Gilbert and Leona M. Young.
She graduated from Coal Township High School in 1953, and attended National College in Kansas City, Miss., on an academic scholarship.
Mrs. Fryberger was a retail sales associate at Liz Claiborne in Rehoboth Beach, for the last 10 years.
She married Elwood J. Fryberger on Dec. 31, 1955, in Johnston City United Methodist Church, Ranshaw. They celebrated their 50th anniversary in 2005.
Mrs. Fryberger was a member of Johnston City United Methodist Church, Ranshaw, and was a member at Conley’s Chapel in Angola. She was a member of Johnston City United Methodist Women, Johnston City Friends Club, Bible Group at Conley Chapel, the choir at both churches, pianist at Johnston City United Methodist Church for more than 40 years, Over 50 Club, Ranshaw Civic Association, Alumni Association at National College in Kansas City, Alumni Association for Coal Township, Girl Scout leader and West Bay Park Homeowners Association in Lewes.
She is survived by her husband, Elwood J. Fryberger; a daughter and son-in-law, Cathie Lee (Fryberger) and Conrad Stull of Mullica Hill, N.J.; a son and daughter-in-law, Mark E. Sr. and Cathy Fryberger of Ranshaw; a brother and sister-in-law, John G. and Fran Young of Georgetown; two sisters and two brothers-in-law, Jane L. and Michael Klembara of Coal Township, Pa., and Marsha L. and John Kotanchik of Thorndale, Pa.; six grandchildren, Mark and his wife Megan of Ranshaw, David, Chad, Marcus, Alexa and Daniel, all of Mullica Hill; two great-grandchildren, Blake and Kylie of Ranshaw; and several nieces and nephews.
Services were held in Johnston City United Methodist Church, Ranshaw. Burial was in Northumberland Memorial Park cemetery.

Barbara H. Johnson,
Sussex housewife
Barbara H. Johnson, 75, of Millsboro, died Monday May 15, 2006, at Nanticoke Memorial Hospital, Seaford.
She was the daughter of the late Harley E. and Marcella Johnson.
Ms. Johnson loved to cook, shop, paint, and do yard work.
She is survived by her companion of 43 years, Raymond C. Moore; three sons, Leon S and wife Trina Johnson of Laurel; Irvin M. Johnson of Bethlehem, Md., and Raymond C. Johnson of Georgetown; a daughter, Teresa H. Johnson of Dagsboro; three sisters, Blonnie McCall of Lewes, Rochella Nock of Millsboro, and Vivian Johnson of Millsboro; three brothers, Crawford Johnson of Millsboro, Elson Johnson of Millsboro and Harlin Johnson of Georgetown; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Services will be held Friday May 19, at 1 p.m., at Watson Funeral Home 211 Washington St. Millsboro, where friends may call at noon. The Revered James Burton will officiate.
Burial will be in Harmony cemetery , Millsboro.
Harold Wilson Hudson,
retired loan officer
Harold Wilson Hudson, 89, of Georgetown, died Monday, May 15, 2006, at Green Valley Terrace in Millsboro.
Mr. Hudson was born in Frankford, the son of the late Peter Raymond and Annie E. Hudson.
He was a loan officer for 30 years with Wilmington Trust Co., retiring in 1985. He was a member and very active in all aspects of the Wesley UM Church in Georgetown, the United Methodist Men and was treasurer of the church from 1966 to 1996.
He was an avid sailor and was a superior crewman of the Lightning Fleet and raced and won numerous regattas along the East Coast and Great lakes. A photograph of Mr. Hudson and his boat was featured in Cruising Magazine in 1962.
His greatest love was for his grandchildren and for all of their accomplishments.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a brother, Everett Horace Hudson.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Mary Catherine Mitchell Hudson; a daughter, Georgeann H. White and her husband Thomas V. of Millsboro; his grandchildren, Alison C. White and Kyle V. White; a brother, Donald L. Hudson and his wife Lois E. of Frankford; a niece, Gail Hudson of Frankford; a nephew, Guy Hudson and his wife Lauren of Wilmington; a great-nephew, Taylor Hudson; and two great-nieces, Brittany Hudson and Morgan Lee Hudson.
Services will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, May 19, at Wesley UM Church, Laurel and Race streets, Georgetown. Friends may call from noon to 1 p.m., Friday at the church. The Rev. Anne Pruett-Barnett will officiate. Interment will be in Union cemetery , Georgetown.

Marcia K. Herman-Crossland,
retired registered nurse
Marcia K. Herman-Crossland, 53, of Millsboro, formerly of York, Pa. and Newark, passed away at her home Sunday May 14, 2006.
Marcia was born on May 6, 1953 in York, daughter to the late Dr. James Sylvester and Lois Myrtle Clayton Keller. She was a registered nurse for the Delaware State Division of Long Term Care Residents Protection.
Mrs. Herman-Crossland was a very active member of the Long Neck United Methodist Church where she was a chairwoman on the Finance Committee. Marcia enjoyed gardening, music, visits to the beach and reading.
She is survived by her husband, James Henry Crossland Jr.; a daughter, Kelly Lynne Grimshaw of Fort Mill, S.C.; a son, Timothy Mark Herman of Newark; two stepsons, James Crossland III and Aaron Crossland; and a sister, Beth A. Lucabaugh of Dover, Pa.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, May 20, at 10 a.m. at the Long Neck United Methodist Church, Long Neck Road Millsboro. Friends and family may call Friday, May 19, from 6-8 p.m. and Saturday, May 20, from 9-9:30 a.m. at the Long Neck Chapel of Melson Funeral Services. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, May 22, at Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle.

Doris (Burma) Journey Harper Lawson died June 21, 2006, at her daughter’s home in California.

Dorothy M. Tryon,

Dorothy M. Tryon of Smyrna, 84, passed away Thursday, May 11, 2006, at Bayhealth Medical Center-Kent General Hospital in Dover.
Dorothy was born and raised in Philadelphia, Pa. She traveled with her career soldier husband, Harry, for 24 years and has made Delaware her home for the past 45 years. Dorothy was a proud homemaker.
Her husband, Harry, passed away in 1997. She is survived by her sons, Harry J. Tryon Jr. and his wife, Cindy, of Smyrna, and Robert D. Tryon of Rehoboth Beach; grandchildren, Tonya Obierek, Kirsten Cox, Tosh Tryon, Trish Tryon, Christina Cherry and Andrea Gaston; and great-grandchildren, Taylor, Hailey, Matthew, Adam and Anthony.
Family and friends are invited to share in Dorothy’s life celebration and viewing from 11 a.m. to noon, Tuesday, May 16, at Beeson Funeral Home in Newark, 2053 Pulaski Highway, Fox Run; her funeral service will be at noon. Interment will follow in Delaware Veterans Memorial cemetery

World War II veteran
Dale D. Miller of Bethlehem, Pa., formerly of Allentown, Pa., 81, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family in Millsboro on Friday May 12, 2006.
Mr. Miller was born April 6, 1925, son of the late Paul and Ethel (Heckman) Miller. Dale was retired from Arbogast & Bastian Meat Packing Plant. He was a past master of Greenleaf Masonic Lodge in Allentown and a veteran of World War II serving in the Army. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Lorraine Transue Miller and his companion Jean Beckley. He is survived by a daughter Deborah Reitenauer and her companion Kenneth Miesen, of Millsboro, with whom he resided; a son Gregory of Kutztown, Pa.; four grandchildren - Tamara Baer and her husband Craig of Bethlehem, Nancy Duro and her husband Dustin of Bethlehem, Colin Miller of Kutztown and Colette Miller of Harrisburg, Pa. He is also survived by two great granddaughters - Cassidy and Rylie Baer. Services and burial will be private at the convenience of the family. Jacklynn P. Hitchens,
World War II veteran
Jacklynn P. Hitchens, 82, of Ocean Way Estates in Ocean View died Wednesday, May 10, 2006, at Beebe Medical Center in Lewes. She was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., daughter of the late Harry and Esther Poritzky on Nov. 28, 1923. She married George D. Hitchens, then of Wilmington, Dec. 16, 1949.
Jackie enlisted in the Women’s Army Corp in January 1944, retiring from the USAF in June 1965 at the rank of master sergeant. Her military specialties included aircraft mechanic and medical materiel. Her assignments included Vienna, Austria; Bolling AFB, Washington, D.C.; Rhein Main AB, Germany; Ruislip AS, England; and Travis AFB, Calif.. Her decorations include the World War II Victory Medal.
Following her retirement, Jackie accompanied her husband on civil service assignments to England and Germany. During her time in Germany, she managed the Officers’ Wives Club Thrift Shop and devoted numerous hours to volunteer work. Jackie and George settled in Ocean View in 1985. They were members of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees.
She is survived by her husband of 56 years, George D. Hitchens; nephew Paul Hitchens of Rehoboth Beach; nieces Gloria Bram of Port Townsend, Wash., and Sanda Everette of San Mateo, Calif.; and many other nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be at 3 p.m., Wednesday, June 14, at Arlington National cemetery , Ft. Myer Chapel; burial will follow immediately. Arrangements are being handled by Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium in Lewes.

Gary Brandon Smith,
U.S. Army veteran
Gary Brandon Smith, 55, of Lewes, died Friday, May 12, 2006, at home. Mr. Smith was born Dec.16, 1950, the son of Gayle Brown Smith and the late Thelma (Wix) Smith. Mr. Smith was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a motorcycle mechanic for the Harrington Motor Co. for 20 years before retiring in 1996. He loved stock car and dirt track racing. He owned his own dirt track cars and built several cars and engines for other drivers as well. He enjoyed fishing and hunting with his father as well as shooting skeet and sporting clays.
In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by a brother Glenn Smith in 1982. He is survived by two daughters - Fawna R. Shultie and her husband Richard, of Harrington, and Jenny Norris and her husband John, of Wrightsville, Ga.; his father Gayle Brown Smith, of Harrington; a brother Greg Smith and his wife Debbie, of Harrington; four grandchildren - Brenden Shultie, Zachary Shultie, Lillie Norris and Emily Norris; three nephews - Geoffrey Smith, Bradley Smith and Brandon Smith and a niece Julie Smith.
Memorial services will be at 7 p.m., Wednesday, May 17, at McKnatt, Carpenter & Baker Funeral Home, 50 Commerce Street, Harrington.
Dorothy W. Messick,

Dorothy W. Messick, 88 of Millsboro, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family and care givers on Tuesday, May 9, 2006, in Green Valley Terrace Nursing Home in Millsboro.
Mrs. Messick was born on July 6, 1917, in Millsboro, daughter of the late George W. And Bertha (Joseph) Burton. She worked for NCR before becoming a foster grandparent for the state of Delaware.
Mrs. Messick loved being around her family, and gardening. She was also a member of Conley’s United Methodist Church in Angola.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Clifford U. Messick Sr. in 1956 and a son, Clifford “Sonny” Messick Jr. in 2003.
She is survived by three sons, Edward B. Messick and his wife Barbara, Richard D. Messick and his wife Carol, A. Theodore Messick and his wife Susan; two daughters Shirley M. Pettit and her husband Royston and Patricia Messick Absher; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Services were held at the Long Neck Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, Millsboro, with interment will be in Conley’s cemetery.

Kathleen Walls Painter,
nurse, business owner
Kathleen Walls Painter, 63, of Milford and formerly of Wilmington, passed away at her residence on Wednesday, May 10, 2006.
Born in Wilmington, Kathleen was the daughter of the late Fred and Helen (Dougherty) Walls. She served in the Franciscan Order for eight years and taught first grade at St. Anthony’s School. She earned her nursing degree and worked as a licensed practical nurse at various locations in the Wilmington area. Previously, she owned and operated C&K Cleaners with her husband, Clyde R. Painter, who predeceased her in 1985.
Kathleen will be missed by her brother, James M. and his wife, Cheryl, of Lewes; her niece, Keely A. Maegerle and her husband, Rob; and her nephew, Drew Walls and his wife, Erin.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. John the Apostle Church, Milford, with interment in All Saints cemetery , Wilmington.
