Eileen M. Simmons,
Suburban Propane employee
Eileen M. Simmons, 78, of Millsboro and formerly of Rockville, Md., passed away Wednesday, June 21, 2006, at Beebe Medical Center in Lewes.
Eileen was the daughter of the late Stanley and Anna Girchess Barsditis. She was a supervisor for Suburban Propane in Rockville and Rehoboth Beach for 35 years before her retirement. Eileen was a member of Sussex Rescue Squad Auxiliary, AARP and the CHEER Center.
Mrs. Simmons was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Nelson Simmons, in 1992.
She is survived by her loving daughter, Wendy Eileen Simmons; a brother, Edward Barsditis of Monroeville, Pa.; and a sister, Marcia Ann Buscher of Silver Springs, Md.
Services will be at 2 p.m., Monday, June 26, at the Long Neck Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, Long Neck Road. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m., Saturday, June 24; 6 to 8 p.m., Sunday, June 25; and 1 to 2 p.m., Monday, June 26. Burial will be in St. George’s Chapel cemetery on Beaver Dam Road.
The family suggests contributions to the Alzheimer’s Association of Sussex County, P.O. Box 625, Georgetown DE 19947.

Charlotte J, Morgan,
Sussex homemaker
Charlotte J. Morgan, 80, of Millsboro, died Wednesday, June 21, 2006, at Beebe Medical Center, Lewes.
Mrs. Morgan was the daughter of the late Walter and Arminda Shafer.
She is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Robert R Morgan; three daughters, Carol Cook of Oxford, Pa., Barbara Grant and Beverly Grant, both of Brookhaven, Pa.; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a sister, Ella Ames of Bath, Pa.; and a brother, Harold Shafer of Scranton, Pa.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m., Saturday, July 1, at Victoria Baptist Church, Springfield, Pa.
The family suggests contributions to the American Heart Association, Sussex chapter, 600 N. Dupont Hwy., Georgetown DE 19947.

Elizabeth R. Bircham,
retired secretary
Elizabeth R. Bircham, 90, of Wilmington, formerly of Lewes, died Thursday, June 22, 2006, at Sunrise Assisted Living in Wilmington.
Miss Bircham was born in New York City, daughter of the late Horatio and Christine Koster Bircham. She was a graduate of Hunter College in New York City and had worked as a secretary in various executive offices in New York before moving to Lewes. She was currently a member of Bethel United Methodist Church in Lewes.
Miss Bircham had no immediate survivors.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m., Monday June 26, at Bethel Methodist cemetery , Savannah Road, Lewes, with the Rev. Jack Cohen officiating.

Barbara Groton Boyce,
retired machine operator
Barbara Groton Boyce, 72, of Laurel, died following a heart attack Sunday, June 18, 2006, in Nanticoke Memorial Hospital in Seaford.
She was born in Seaford, daughter of the late Charles and Grace Ellingsworth Baker.
Mrs. Boyce retired as a machine operator for Maryland Plastics in Federalsburg, Md., after 14 years of service.
She is survived by her husband Eddie Boyce Sr.; three sons and two daughters-in-law, David and Lorraine Hare of Laurel, Gary and Amy Hare of Oregon, and Eric Dale Hare and his girlfriend Laury Sandquist of Kansas; a stepson, Buddy Boyce of Laurel; a daughter and a son-in-law, Teresa and Terry Steerman of Harrington; a stepdaughter and a stepson-in-law, Kathy May and Dennis Harrison of Milton; a sister, Charlotte McCutcheon of Laurel; six grandchildren, Derrick Hare of Laurel, Chad Harrison of Milton, Stephanie Hare and Alisha Tolboe, both of Oregon, and Dillon Steerman and Megan Steerman, both of Harrington; and two great-grandchildren, Tyler Hare of Greenwood and Riley Olivia Hare-Moore, both of Laurel.
Services will be at 2 p.m., Friday, June 23, in the Hannigan, Short, Disharoon Funeral Home, 700 West St., Laurel, where friends may call one hour earlier. The Rev. Romie Payne will officiate.
Burial will be in Odd Fellows cemetery , Laurel.

Leroy J. Rench,
past VFW commander
Leroy J. Rench, 80, of Dover died Tuesday, June 20, 2006, in the VA Medical Center in Elsmere.
Mr. Rench was born Oct. 12, 1925, in Dover, to the late James C. and Emma F. Sanner Rench.
He was proud of receiving his high school diploma from the governor of Delaware. Mr. Rench served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
He was a past state commander of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3238, a member of the Cooties and a member of the American Legion Post 2. Mr. Rench was an avid bonsai entrepreneur and loved all flowers.
He is preceded in death by his granddaughter, Elizabeth Sue Lauer, in 1983.
He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Harriett Susan McGinnes Rench of Dover; two sons, James Rench of Dover, and Scott Rench of Harbeson; a son from his first marriage, Leroy Dieter, of Massachusetts; two daughters, Bonnie Fisher of Tampa, Fla., and Kathy Franklin of Dover; and six grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m., Monday, June 26, in the Trader Funeral Home Inc., 12 Lotus St., Dover, where friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m., Sunday, June 25. Burial will be at 1 p.m., Monday, June 26, in Delaware Veterans Memorial cemetery , Millsboro.
The family suggests memorial contributions to the funeral home.

Robert C. Mittnight Jr.,
retired engineer
Robert Charles Mittnight Jr., 78, of Lewes, passed away Tuesday, June 20, 2006.
He was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., and lived in Haworth, N.J., before retiring to Delaware in 1997.
He graduated from Polytechnic Preparatory School in Brooklyn, attended the University of Pennsylvania and graduated from the University of Baltimore. He was a member of Alpha Tau Omega fraternity and a veteran of the U.S Marine Corps.
Robert was an engineer employed by IBM, Eastern Airlines and Ebasco Corp., before becoming self-employed. He was a man of integrity and an avid reader of history, especially World War II. His favorite place was Westhampton Beach, Long Island, N.Y., where he spent summers as a youth.
He was predeceased by his parents Irene Riley and Robert Charles Mittnight.
He is survived by his wife Helen Hill Mittnight; and three children - Robert Charles Mittnight and his wife Lynn of Reading, Ma.; Dana Mittnight Hartigan and her husband Jason of Burke, Va.; and Eric Hill Mittnight and his wife Stephanie of Fairfax, Va.; and eight grandchildren.
A memorial service followed by military honors will be at 11 a.m., Monday, June 26, at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, Second and Market streets, Lewes, where he was a member. Interment will be private.
Arrangements are being handled by Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Lewes.

Sarah Merle Roth,
retiree from Playtex
Sarah Merle Simpson Roth, 100, passed away peacefully at the Milford Center, Tuesday, June 20, 2006.
Merle was born May 24, 1906, the daughter of the late James D. and Sadie Hickman Simpson. Merle was a graduate of Smyrna High School and Beacom College in Wilmington. She worked at Smith’s Newsstand and was a waitress at People’s Restaurant as well as Burton’s Sport Shop in the early 1940s. She retired from Playtex Corporation in Dover in 1968 after 21 years of service. She then worked as a bookkeeper at Quillens Market and the Harrington Senior Center.
Merle was a life member of the CKRT No. 7 American Legion Auxiliary and served as the director of the Annual Delaware Girls State Program for many years. She was a member of the Harrington Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary where she enjoyed their many activities and was a member of the Harrington Senior Center.
In addition to her parents, Merle was preceded in death by her husband, Dale J. Roth in 1996; two sons Davis Kimmey Jr. in 1936 and Neal J. Kimmey in 1978; a sister, Peggy Curtis; and two brothers Lex and Carroll Simpson.
She is survived by a daughter, Janet K. Brown, of Milford; a son, Newlin F. Kimmey of Seaford; a sister, Thelma Minner of Greensboro, Md.; grandchildren Kim B. Robbins and her husband Jeff, Sally B. Carnright, all of Frederica; Sue B. Smith and her husband Genie of Milford; Karen S. Guyer and her husband Jerry of Ellendale; Andrea P. Wolf and her husband Mark of Florida; J.R. Kimmey of Harrington; Terri Corder and her husband Geri, of Greenwood and Jay Tarr, of Wilmington; 15 great-grandchildren and their spouses and families, three great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and their families and other friends.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m., Saturday, June 24, at McKnatt, Carpenter & Baker Funeral Home, 50 Commerce Street, Harrington where friends may call after 11 a.m. Burial will be in Hollywood cemetery , Milford - Harrington Highway, Harrington.
The family suggests contributions to either the Harrington Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary, 20 Clark Street, Harrington, DE 19952 or to the CKRT. #7 American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, C/O Mary Tucker, 324 Dorman Street, Harrington, DE 19952

John Jacob Reeb Jr.,
U.S. Army veteran
John Jacob Reeb Jr., 67, of Georgetown, and formerly of Chesapeake City, Md., died Tuesday, June 20, 2006, at Harbor Healthcare & Rehab Center in Lewes.
Mr. Reeb was born in Baltimore, Md., son of the late John Jacob Reeb and Viola (Shaffer) Reeb and had served in the U.S. Army.
He is survived by his wife Karen Jean (Chambers) Reeb; four daughters, Mary Hamer, Kim Reeb, Cynthia Wyatt and Candice Rayne; a son, William Boulden; a sister, Anna Goreck; and 11 grandchildren.
A memorial service was held at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Dodd-Carey Chapel, Georgetown. Interment will be private.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 163, Salisbury, MD 21803.

Leon John Markiewicz,
retired from Sinclair Oil
Leon John Markiewicz, 81, of Lewes, passed away on Sunday, June 18, 2006, at his late residence.
He was born Dec. 21, 1924 in Chester, Pa., son of the late John and Kate (Mach) Markiewicz.
Mr. Markiewicz had a long career with the former Sinclair Oil of Marcus Hook, Pa. retiring as a supervisor. He moved to Delaware 23 years ago where he has enjoyed his retirement years. He served as a Seaman First Class with the U. S. Navy during WW II and he was a lifetime member of VFW Post #5447 in Holly Oak. He was a member of St. Jude The Apostle Catholic Church. He loved his home and was happy being called a “homebody;” he especially loved the flowers in his yard.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Joseph Markiewicz.
He is survived by his wife of 11 years, Theresa Markiewicz; two stepsons, Patrick Moffatt of Havertown, Pa. and Robert Downes of Brookhaven, Pa.; his brother, Jerry Markiewicz of Berlin, Md.; and his dearly beloved aunt, Stella Hickey of Claymont.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m., Friday, June 23, with Father Ray Forrester as the celebrant. Family and friends may call one hour before Mass at the church. Interment with military honors will follow at Delaware Veterans Memorial cemetery , Millsboro.
Please omit flowers. The family suggests memorial contributions in memory of Mr. Markiewicz be made to Delaware Hospice, 20167 Office Circle, Georgetown, DE 19947.

Annette A. Hennigan,
school media specialist
Annette A. Hennigan, 58, of Rehoboth Beach, formerly of Silver Spring, Md., died Saturday, June 17, 2006, at Montgomery General Hospital in Olney, Md., after a 26-year battle with cancer.
Mrs. Hennigan was born in Franklin, Indiana. She was a graduate of Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School.
She had worked for the Montgomery County Public School System as a media specialist for 16 years, retiring in 2003. Mrs. Hennigan enjoyed traveling, going on cruises, visiting her granddaughter, and going to the beach.
She is survived by her husband Leo V. Hennigan; two sons, Matt Hennigan of Burnt Hills, N.Y. and Michael Hennigan of Millsboro; a stepbrother, Lynn Liebschutz of California; and a granddaughter, Anna Hennigan.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Jude The Apostle Catholic Church, Route 1 at Five Points, Lewes, at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, June 22. Friends may call at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, Wednesday, June 21, from 6 to 8 p.m. Interment will be at Gate of Heaven cemetery in Dagsboro.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 163, Salisbury, MD 21803.

Catherine M. Adams,
business owner
Catherine M. Adams, 88, of Denton, Md., passed away Saturday, June 17, 2006, in Denton.
Mrs. Adams was born May 9, 1918, in Concord, near Seaford, daughter of the late Ray and Stella (Bramble) Plummer.
She was a business partner with her husband in the Adams Feed Store and Adams and Wright Hardware Store, both in Denton, as well as the Adams Oceanfront Motel in Dewey Beach. They co-owned the Redwood Lodge and South Winds Motel in Dewey Beach and participated in several other endeavors throughout Maryland’s Eastern Shore and Delaware.
She and her husband loved harness racing at Harrington and Dover, co-owning horses, and were often seen at the track in the last few years.
Mrs. Adams was an active community leader in the PTA, the 4-H, Grace Methodist Church and Friends of Martinak State Park. She was an exceptional cook and loved flower and vegetable gardening. She loved her family and friends, and considered Caroline County the garden spot of the world.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Roger Lee Adams; and a granddaughter, Joanna Rae Plummer.
She is survived by her husband, Roy R. Adams of Denton, whom she married in 1936; two daughters, Ruby Adams of Rehoboth Beach and Jane A. Plummer of Hagerstown, Md.; two brothers, Joseph Plummer of Laurel and Jack Plummer of Seaford; a sister, Mary Lee DeLuca of Seaford; two granddaughters, Jenny L. Plummer-Welker of Bowie, Md. and Jackie D. Plummer-Sprow of Genesee, Pa.; and three great-grandchildren.
Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, June 20, in Moore Funeral Home P.A., 12 S. Second St., Denton. Services will be at 2 p.m., Wednesday, June 21, in the funeral home. Burial will be in the Denton cemetery.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the Denton Volunteer Fire Co., 400 S. Fifth Ave., Denton, MD 21629.
