Edith Fay Ellingsworth,

Edith Fay Ellingsworth, 73, of Georgetown, died Friday, June 16, 2006, at Beebe Medical Center in Lewes.
Mrs. Ellingsworth was born in Milton, the daughter of the late Frank and Lula Brooks Megee.
She was the assistant manager of Mellon Bank in Lewes for 25 years, retiring in 1995.
She enjoyed baking, reading, cooking and gardening and loved cats and dogs.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Marie Caramalis.
She is survived by her loving husband, John C. Ellingsworth; four children, Marie Ellingsworth Thoroughgood of Millsboro, John Allan Ellingsworth of Georgetown, Lisa Forney of Selbyville and Susan Saxton of Georgetown; four grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; two sisters, Evelyn Forst and Winifred Parkhill, both of Milton; and two brothers, Herman Megee of Millsboro and John R. Megee of Milton.
Services were private.

Diane F. Zappaterrini
worked for Delaware
Diane F. Ciabattoni Zappaterrini, 75, of Wilmington, passed away at home surrounded by her family on Friday, June 16, 2006.
Mrs. Zappaterrini was a homemaker and worked for the state of Delaware. Mrs. Zappaterrini enjoyed traveling and spending time with her family at Rehoboth Beach.
Mrs. Zappaterrini was preceded in death by her husband, David F. Sr., in 2001; and by her son, Ronald, in 1981.
She is survived by her sons, David F. Jr. of Wilmington and Robert and his wife, Teresa, also of Wilmington; and a daughter, Lisa Turner and her husband, Robert, of New Castle. Mrs. Zappaterrini is also survived by Ronald’s former wife, Kathleen Turner and her husband, Terry; her sister, Clara Zappaterrini; brother, Anthony “Butch” Ciabattoni; dear friend, Jessie Talmo; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandsons.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at noon, Tuesday, June 20th, at St. Anthony of Padua Church, 9th and Dupont streets, followed by entombment in the family mausoleum in Cathedral cemetery . Friends may visit with the family at the Corleto-Latina Funeral Home, 808 N. Union St., Wilmington.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made in Mrs. Zappaterrini’s memory to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, 100 W. 10th St., Wilmington, DE 19801; or to the Alzheimer’s Association, Delaware chapter, 2306 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, DE 19808.
Donald H. Painter,

Donald H. Painter, 84, of Cambridge, formerly of Laurel-dale, Pa., died Tuesday, June 13, 2006, in Dorchester General Hospital, Cambridge.
Mr. Painter was born June 21, 1921, in Birdsboro, Pa., son of the late Donald H. Painter and Rhoda Kulp Faller.
He attended Reading High School, Reading, Pa.
Mr. Painter was awarded the Air Medal in 1945 for his service as an aviator in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
During his working career, he was employed with Carpenter Steel, now Cartech, until his retirement. During a portion of his retirement, he resided in Masseys Landing, Sussex County.
Mr. Painter was a member of the Goodwill Beneficial Fire Department in Reading. He also was a member of the Northmont Beneficial Fellowship and the Pikesville Beneficial Gun Club.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepfather, James Faller.
He is survived by his stepson, James Marks of Temple, Pa.; and two step-granddaughters, Kristin Marks of Wernersville, Pa., and Julie Van Leer Strand of Reading.
Services will be private.
Brenda L. Shockley,

Brenda L. Shockley, 38, of Bridgeville and formerly of Millsboro, passed away at home Thursday, June 15, 2006, after a long illness.
Brenda was a loving wife and mother. She was an assistant manager of the County Bank in Georgetown. She enjoyed camping, going to the beach, travel and NASCAR. Her favorite driver was Jeff Gordon. Brenda and her family attended Millsboro Wes-leyan Church.
She was preceded in death by her father, William R. Hitchens.
She is survived by her mother, Shirley M. Townsend Hitchens; her husband, John A. Shockley; a son, Cameron T. Heck, of Bridgeville; and a brother, Michael W. Hitchens of Georgetown.
Services will be at 2 p.m., Tuesday, June 20, at Watson Funeral Home, 211 Washington St., Millsboro. Calling hours are from noon to 2 p.m. Burial will be in Carey’s cemetery , Millsboro.

Elsie Ida Mae Young,
retired from Townsends
Elsie Ida Mae (Sturgis) Young, 79, of Milton passed away Monday, June 12, 2006, at Bayhealth Medical Center-Milford Memorial Hospital, Milford.
Mrs. Young was born Oct. 8, 1926, in Georgetown, daughter of the late Harley Cyrus and Essie Amanda Hurst-Sturgis.
She attended Hollyville Elementary School through eighth grade. At the age of 15, she went to live with her sister, Sallie Abernathy-Sturgis, in Brooklyn, N.Y.
Mrs. Young worked in a shoe factory for several years, and then she took ill and was brought home. In her lifetime, she worked diligently for the Veasley family, Dr. Hick, the Swift Co. Her last place of employment was Townsend’s Inc., where she worked for 28 years. She had been retired for 17 years.
She enjoyed cooking and held several family reunions. Every-one was always welcome there. She also cooked platters for Beebe Medical Center and Townsend’s, and baked pies for Tunnel and Raysor, sometimes 20 to 30 pies and 10 to 12 cakes at a time.
Mrs. Young first attended Union Wesley United Methodist Church, Clarksville, for several years. She then joined Burton’s Chapel under the leadership of Calvin O. Price. Mrs. Young was a missionary and she went out into the community. Through her prayers and faithfulness, many souls were saved.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Helena Pratt.
She is survived by her faithful and loving husband, Samuel Carter Young, whom she married July 13, 1960; a daughter, Evetta Fleming of Dover; four sisters and three brothers-in-law, Marion Burton of Parkview Nursing Home, Wilmington, Shirley and David Handy and Lois and George Wolford, all of Frankford, and Carolyn and Gary Harmon of Georgetown; five sisters-in-law, Doris Sturgis of Milton, Rachel Gibson of Dover, and Margaret West, Mary Young and Bertha Young, all of Frederica; a brother-in-law, Clarence Young of Frederica; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
Services were held in Mount Zion AME Church, Ellendale, with burial in Wesley cemetery , Clarksville.

John H. Bauer,

John H. Bauer, 77, of White House Beach, Millsboro, died Wednesday, June 14, 2006, at Bayhealth Medical Center-Mil-ford Memorial Hospital, Milford.
Mr. Bauer was born in Pottstown, Pa., son of the late John W. and Marie Bauer. He grew up in the Pottstown area before he moved to Delaware in 1971.
He was self-employed all of his life. He owned various businesses over the years. Among those included a car lot, and most recently was the Mr. Burger restaurant in Harrington, which he owned from 1977 to 1997. The restaurant was a staple for the Harrington community. Mr. Bauer was a hard worker and always had a business or a side job to earn money for his family. He was very family oriented, took care of his children and was a great father.
In his spare time, Mr. Bauer enjoyed fishing very much. He also liked to play bingo and cards, and enjoyed cooking. Recently, after receiving a computer for Christmas, he learned to surf the web and kept in touch with his friends through the computer.
He is survived by three sons, Keith W. Bauer and Randy S. Bauer, both of Harrington, and Samuel B. Bauer of Andrewsville; three daughters, Sandra L. Bauer of Lincoln, Kathy M. Willey of Milton and Jacqueline L. Kessler of Andrewsville; a sister, Margaret Horst of Reading, Pa.; 14 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Graveside services were held in Hollywood cemetery , Harrington.

Eugena E. Franklin,
beloved mother
Eugena E. Franklin, of Wilmington, passed away on June 17, 2006 at home.
Eugena, better known as Jean or Dolly by her friends, was employed by 7-Eleven convenience stores in Clay-mont from 1986 to 2000. Her greatest accomplishment in life was being a homemaker and a wonderful mother to her 11 children. The greatest passion in her life was her family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Franklin and her sons Glenn and Albert Franklin.
She is survived by her four daughters, Elaine Beideman of Lewes, Paula Armstrong of Townsend, Tina Wright of Lewes, and Lisa Franklin of Lewes; five sons: Dennis Franklin of St. Petersburg, Fla., Benjamin Franklin of New Castle, Willard Franklin of Rehoboth Beach, Phillip Franklin of Wilmington and Barry Franklin of New Castle; 21 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; her sister, Pearl Case Brown of Port Jervis, N.Y.; her twin brother, Eugene “Sonny” Eagen of Newburgh, N.Y.; as well as 16 nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 2 p.m., Saturday, June 24, at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, where family and friends may call one hour prior to the service. Cremation will follow the service with a private burial.

Ed Dean,

Ed Dean, 53, of Crisfield, Md., passed away suddenly at his vacation home in North Carolina on Friday, June 16, 2006. Adoring husband of 12 years to Deborah and devoted father to Jud, he will be greatly missed.
Born in Newark, N.Y., Ed was the only child of Bob Dean and Anna Priebe Dean. A lifelong teacher and educator, one of his proudest memories was a missionary trip to Haiti when he was just 16 years of age.
After graduating from Ithaca College in 1975, he began his teaching career at Sussex Central Middle School in Delaware.
He mentored his students in the classroom and on the field, coaching Little League, softball, basketball and wrestling. He left the classrooms behind to become an administrator, most recently as principal of Princess Anne Elementary School in Princess Anne, Md.
A lifelong beach lover, Ed spent 20 years guarding the beaches of Rehoboth and Bethany in Delaware. Lifeguards on those beaches today follow the model he set in place as captain from 1982 until 1991.
He never really left those days behind, maintaining watch over friends and family on any beach they visited. In his memory, his friends and family have established a college scholarship fund to assist a deserving lifeguard from the Bethany Beach Patrol with college expenses.
Ed is survived by his wife, Deborah Dean; his son, Jud Dean and Melissa Wooters; his daughter, Megan Dean; his parents, Bob and Ann Dean; his aunts and uncles, Charles and Miriam Priebe, Paul and Dorothy Priebe, Richard Priebe and Helen Linstrom; his cousins, Stephanie Jensen and Lois and Brandy Jones; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Jerry and Barbara Brown; his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Cindy and Wyn Hiles, John and Kathy Hornby, and Charles and Katherine Goff; his nieces and nephews, Lee, Andrew, Trevor, Jenna, Ashley and Laurel; family pets, Auggie, Tiger Ann, and Obie; and many cherished friends.
A casual celebration of his life swill be at 2 p.m., Thursday, June 22, at Bradshaw & Sons Funeral Home in Crisfield where friends may call two hours prior to the service.
Father Mike Lokey will officiate.

Paul R. Prato,
retired pressman
Paul R. Prato, 74, of Millsboro, died Wednesday, June 14, 2006 at home.
He was the son of the late Raphael G. and Louise Riemann Prato.
Paul was a graduate of Manhattan School of Printing in New York City. He was an Army veteran.
He had been a member of the New York Typographical Union #6 and Atlantic City Type Union #377. He retired from the Press of Atlantic City in 1993.
He had been a member of Hook & Ladder Co. 1, Congress, N.Y., and Centerton Fire Company in Pittsgrove Township, N.J., a member of the American Legion Post 95 Bridgeton, N.J., and Post 28 of Oak Orchard/Riverdale.
He was also a member of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Bridgeton N.J. He enjoyed collecting toy fire engines.
He is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Ellen D. Prato; four children, Raymond, Paul, Linda, and Luann; two stepchildren, Ed and Ellen; and several grandchildren.
Services will be held Monday, June 19, at 1 p.m., at the Delaware Memorial Veterans cemetery , Millsboro, where military honors will be rendered with Pastor Douglas Albert officiating.

Gene W. Fitzgerald,

Gene Wayne Fitzgerald, 62, of Milford, died Tuesday, June 13, 2006, in Christiana Hosptial, Newark.
Mr. Fitzgerald was born in Milford, the son of the late John Townsend and Lillie Gertrude Spicer Fitzgerald. Gene was an established Milford businessperson from 1974 until present. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister Ann Wiley Fitzgerald in 1996.
He is survived by his partner Jeanie Fitzgerald, of Milford; a son Christopher Fitzgerald, also of Milford; a daughter Erin Bryant, and a grandson Jacob Bryant, both of Lincoln; two brothers, Jack Fitzgerald and his wife Karen, and Alvin Fitzgerald and his wife Mary Ann; one sister Barbara Hammond, all of Lincoln; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m., Tuesday, June 20, at the Lofland Funeral Home, 102 Lakeview Avenue, Milford. Entombment will be in Milford Community cemetery , Route 113, Milford.
