Ralph Sullivan Jr.,
former first mate
Ralph Patrick “Bunky” Sullivan Jr., 45, of Georgetown, passed away Monday, June 12, 2006, at Nanticoke Memorial Hospital in Seaford, after a long heart illness.
He was born December 29, 1960. in Georgetown. Mr. Sullivan was a graduate of Woodbridge High School. He was an avid NASCAR fan especially of Dale Earnhart. His love of fishing brought him to Key West, Fla. where he worked for Eddie Agin and Andy Fortin for 15 years as first mate on the O.M.B. sport fishing boat.
Mr. Sullivan was predeceased by his father Ralph Patrick Sullivan Sr. and his brother Donald K. Sullivan.
He is survived by his mother Charlotte Virginia Sullivan and his stepfather Jack Sullivan of Georgetown; five brothers, Shawn L. Sullivan of Georgetown, John H. Sullivan Jr. of South Bowers, David Scott Sullivan of Salisbury, Md., Shawn P. Sullivan of Dover, and Bryan Sullivan of Hyattsville, Md.; one sister, Lisa Reed of Milton; two nephews, Ian Sullivan of Georgetown and Dylan Reed of Georgetown; three nieces, Kaitlin Sullivan, Stephanie Lynch and husband Buddy of Georgetown and Michelle Sullivan of Dover; two additional nephews; and his maternal grandmother, Ruth James of Georgetown.
Funeral services will be held at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Dodd-Carey Chapel, 307 Laws Street, Georgetown, Friday, June 16, at 4 p.m., where friends may call one hour prior to services. The Rev. Dr. Paul E. Isaacs will be officiating. Interment will be private.
There will be a reception at Asbury Community Hall following the funeral.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Wilmington Trust Co., Georgetown, DE l9947 to cover funeral expenses.
Naomi M. Stoddart,
retired Cape employee
Naomi M. McCafferty Stoddart, 83, of Lincoln, died Tuesday, June 13, 2006, at Beebe Medical Center in Lewes.
Mrs. Stoddart was born in Lock Haven, PA, daughter of the late Charles and Maude Johnson McCafferty. She had formerly been employed by Cape Henlopen School District as a cafeteria aide.
Mrs. Stoddart is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Charles A. Stoddart and wife Karen of Lincoln, with whom she resided; a sister Barbara Confer of Beech Creek, Pa.; a grandson William Stoddart, and three step-grandchildren: Trey, Morgan and Adam Webster. She was pre-deceased by her husband, William Albert Stoddart Jr. in 1975.
Arrangements are being handled by Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes. Interment will be private.

Muriel Inez Crawford

Muriel Inez Crawford, 92, passed away Wednesday, June 7, 2006, at her South Rehoboth Beach home, surrounded by her loving circle of friends.
Born April 21, 1914, in Washington, D.C., Crawford served as an executive secretary at the Washington law firm of Covington and Burling, followed by a position as executive secretary to the president of the Southern Railroad, now Amtrak.
Crawford, along with her partner of 57 years, Anyda Marchant, who pre-deceased Crawford this past January, began coming to Rehoboth Beach on weekends in the early 1960s. They first owned a weekend home in Rehoboth and then, upon retirement in 1972, moved to a downtown beach home. The house became the site of legendary Saturday evening salons, where cocktails, conversation and an amazingly diverse crowd would gather – neighbors, clergy, writers, musicians – young and old, gay and straight filled the large front porch. In the winter, the cocktails and conversation would relocate to the couple’s home in Pompano Beach, Fla.
In 1972, the couple founded Naiad Press, an independent feminist publishing house, and then founded A&M Books of Rehoboth Beach in 1995. At the time of her death, Crawford was publisher emeritus with A&M Books.
Crawford is survived by a niece and nephew and a family of dear friends.
There will be a memorial service Saturday, July 1, at 11 a.m., at All Saints’ Episcopal Church, Olive Avenue, in Rehoboth Beach, followed by a private internment.
Donations may be made in Muriel’s name to All Saints Church, CAMP Rehoboth or the charity of choice.
James F. Donithan,
public works director
James F. Donithan, 73, died Monday, June 12, 2006, at his home in Wilmington.
Born in Boothwyn, Pa., he lived in Wilmington for one year. He was an assistant director of public works for Marple Township for 20 years. He was also a Korean War veteran of the US Air Force.
Mr. Donithan formerly lived in Milmont Park, Pa. and Egg Harbor, N.J. He was a former member of the Pennsylvania Marine Police for eight years, and a Pennsylvania Fish Commission Water patrolman. He was also a member of the Delaware River Power Squadron.
Mr. Donithan was the son of the late James P. and Ethel Mae Jones Donithan.
Survivors include his wife, Josephine Turney Donithan; two sons, James H. Donithan, of Elsmere, and Stephen Donithan, of Boothwyn; two daughters, Cindy Carter, of Milton, and Sherri Moore, of Wilmington; a sister, Lillie Forwood, of Glen Mills, Pa.; 10 grandchildren; and one greatgrandchild.
Services were held at James M. Brower Funeral Home, Wallingford, Pa.

William J. Wolford Sr.,

William Joseph Wolford Sr., 61, of Lewes, died Monday, June 12, 2006, in Beebe Medical Center, Lewes.
Mr. Wolford was the son of the late Lloyd and E. Margaret Halfpenny Wolford. Mr. Wolford was a self-employed painter working under the name of “Wild Bill Cody”. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a son, David Wolford in 1992, and a granddaughter Chelsea J. Wolford in 1996.
He is survived by two sons William J. Wolford Jr. of Lincoln and Terry Wolford, of Bloomsburg, Pa.; his fiancee’ Patricia Long, of Angola Beach; a sister and brother-in-law Kay and Frank Grindstaff, of Mifflinville, Pa.; two brothers and sisters-in-law Lloyd and Bonnie Wolford, of Berwick, Pa. and Ed and Betty Wolford, of Shickshinny, Pa. and one granddaugther Alyssa M. Wolford, of Lincoln.

Laila Alana Carrero,
Millsboro infant
Laila Alana Carrero of Millsboro died Thursday, June 8, 2006, in Children’s Hospital, Philadelphia. She was 7 weeks old.
Laila was born April 19, 2006. She was here for such a short time, but filled her family’s hearts with love.
She was preceded in death by her paternal great-grandfather, Miguel Maldonado; and her maternal great-grandparents, Janet Baker and Roland and Tavola Taylor.
She is survived by her parents, Norberto Carrero Jr. and Stacey Baker; her parental grandparents, Norberto Sr. and Gloria Carrero of Bronx, N.Y.; her maternal grandmother and stepgrandfather, Lesa Harris and Rodney Handy; her great-grandparents, Angel and Maria Carrero and Dolores Maldonado and Bill Baker; an aunt, Gloribeth Carrero; a great-aunt, Judy Wharton; three uncles, Jeremy Baker, Frank Harris Jr., and Bradley Harris; and many special relatives and friends from New York and Delaware.
Graveside services were held in Dagsboro Redmen’s cemetery.
Elizabeth C. Ewer,

Elizabeth Charlene Ewer, 74, passed away Friday, June 9, 2006 at John Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore, Md.
Mrs. Ewer was born in Georgetown to the late Thomas Henry and Edith May (Affeld) Willey.
Mrs. Ewer was a l949 graduate of Georgetown High School. She graduated from the University of Maryland with a nursing degree, earned a B.S.N. from the University of Delaware in l975 and an M.S.N. in l984.
She worked at Milford Hospital as a third floor head nurse and was an instructor at Delaware Technical & Community College in 1975 before retiring in July, l997.
She worked part-time for BayHealth’s Employee Occupational Health in Milford until April, 2006.
A comment from one of the supervisor’s at the hospital where she worked: “Mrs. Ewer was very good with new graduates and, when possible, the hospital assigned her to work with them. She was very motivated and did without vacation for approximately four years while going to school and working months without a day off.
Her interest in teaching was the motivating factor toward getting her degree.”
She is survived by her two sons, Dean Thomas Ewer of Bealeton, Va. and Edward Everett Ewer Jr. of Fairport, N.Y.; and two grandchildren, Kristen Kelley Ewer and Bryan Douglas Ewer.
Services were held at the Wesley United Methodist Church, Georgetown, with burial in Union cemetery , Georgetown.
Contributions are suggested to a charity of choice.

Alton E. Spicer,
retired meat cutter
Alton E. Spicer, 73, of Princess Anne, Md., Md., died Thursday, June 8, 2006, at the home of his son, Greg.
Mr. Spicer was born June 5, 1933, in Georgetown, the son of the late John and Mary Ida Tracy Spicer.
He was a meat cutter with Acme Markets and Meatland for many years; he retired from Meatland in 2000.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in the Korean War era.
He is survived by two sons, Greg A. Spicer and his wife Wendy of Georgetown and Johnny Wade Spicer and his wife Beth of Elizabeth City, N.C.; a stepdaughter, Susan Ward of Princess Anne, Md.; a brother, Richard Spicer of Florida; three sisters, Ann Hudson of Millsboro, Helen Mumford of Dover and Pat Gordon of Georgetown; and five grandchildren.
Services will be held at noon, Friday, June 16, at the Watson Funeral Home, 211 Washington Street, Millsboro, where friends may call at 11 a.m., in Union cemetery , Georgetown.

David B. Nickle, 48, of Millsboro, died suddenly at home Monday, June 12, 2006.
David was born Feb. 12, 1958, in Cecil County, Md. He was predeceased by his mother, Betty Pickell Nickle; a brother, Paul A. Nickle; and a sister, Lynn Nickle Hurst Taylor.
He is survived by his loving wife of eight years, Dana Stewart Nickle; a son, Nicholas Collins, who is serving in the U.S. Army in Germany, and his wife, Nicole; a daughter, Morgan Collins of Newark; his father and loving stepmother, C. Paul and Alta Nickle of Secretary, Md.; two brothers, Roger Nickle and his wife Lee, of Middletown, and Mark Nickle and his wife, Desire, of Landenberg, Pa.; and a sister, Suzanne Moore of Milford.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, June 17, at Long Neck Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, Long Neck Road. Burial will be private.

Stanley J. Johnson Sr.,
charter boat captain
Captain Stanley J. Johnson Sr. passed away Friday, June 9, 2006, in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
He was born in Rochester, N.Y., moved with his family to Chester, Pa., in 1922 and settled in Lewes in 1946.
He served in the South Pacific during World War II from 1943-1946 as captain of an Army trawler gathering intelligence and fish for the troops in the northern Solomons, around New Guinea and Guadalcanal. Stan became a licensed charter boat captain in 1934, operating his own boat out of the Angler’s in Lewes since 1946 and he operated the Dreamboat from 1950 to the mid 1990s.
He also was a charter member and helped build American Legion Post 17 in Lewes.
He is predeceased by his parents, Bernard and Laura Johnson, who were born in Lithuania; his wife, Margaret R. Johnson who died in 2003; and his grandfather, who was a Swedish sailboat captain who helped build Queen Anne’s Pier in Lewes in 1878.
He is survived by his son, Stanley J. Johnson Jr. of Fort Lauderdale, and three stepsons; James, William and Leo Kuneman.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, June 16, at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, where friends my call after 9 a.m. Interment will be private.
