Lorin Eugene Warehime,
retired Army Depot employee
Lorin Eugene Warehime of Lewes, 66, died Monday, July 3, 2006, at Harbor Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center in Lewes. Mr. Warehime was born June 15, 1940, in Dillsburg, Pa., son of the late Charles Warehime and Bessie (Yohn) Warehime.
Mr. Warehime was employed as a civilian at the Army Depot in Cumberland, Pa., retiring as a supply clerk in l993. He belonged to the American Legion in Pennsylvania and was an avid fisherman.
Mr. Warehime was predeceased by his brother, Dale Warehime, and his sister Janet Coulson.
He is also survived by his two nephews, Chris Warehime of Marysville, Pa., and Craig Warehime of Mechanicsburg, Pa.; two nieces, Carol Lerew of Mechanicsburg, Pa., and Connie Elicker of Harrisburg, Pa.
Services will be at 1 p.m., Friday, July 14, at the Chapel of Delaware Veterans cemetery , 26669 Patriots Way in Millsboro, with Delaware Hospice Chaplain Doug Albert offficiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be sent to Delaware Hospice, 20167 Office Circle, Georgetown, DE 19947.
Arrangements are being handled by Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Dodd-Carey Chapel in Georgetown.
Lambert P. Ayres,
U.S. Army veteran
Lambert P. Ayres, 83, of Lewes, passed away at Beebe Medical Center in Lewes, Sunday, July 2, 2006.
He was born in Philadelphia and attended schools there until 1939, when he and his family moved to Millsboro. He is a graduate of Millsboro High School class of 1940, and he furthered his education at the City College of New York and Providence College. His mother and father were the late Harry R. Ayres and Amalia Brandt Ayres and he was the nephew of the late Sen. William H. Ayres. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, Harry R. Ayres.
He was a civilian electronics technician with the U.S. Army Signal Corps until he entered military service in April 1943, serving in the 26th Infantry Division in Europe. While in Europe he participated in four major campaigns and was awarded the Bronze Star for heroic action in the Battle of the Bulge. After VE Day, he served in the Army of Occupation in Europe until his discharge in 1946.
Returning to civilian life, he joined his father and brother in the partnership of Ayres Service Center in Millsboro. During this period, he was active in the real estate field and designed and built several homes in the Millsboro area.
In 1958, after careful reevaluation of the future, he decided to enter the field of commercial banking. He accepted a position as teller with the Lewes Trust Co., later to merge with Farmer’s Bank. During the five years to follow, he acquired a working knowledge of all the bank service departments and he attended several AIB courses, completing the prestandard certificate.
He retired from Mellon Bank in November 1988, where he had served as assistant cashier, trust officer and then assistant vice president.
Mr. Ayres was a member of the U.S. Power Squadron, treasurer for the Lewes Little League and a member of the audit committee for the Beebe Hospital Building Campaign.
His hobbies consisted of travel, photography, model construction, and Hi-Fi music.
He is survived by his wife, the former Ruth Hudson of Millsboro, of 58 years; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Paul and Phyllis Ann Hudson, Robert and Lois White, Ann Hudson and Dorothy Hudson; many nieces and nephews – Jacqueline Ayers, Adrienne Ayers, Reginald Hudson, Daryl Hudson, Sharon Boyce, P.J. Hudson, Pamela Busby, Karen Sue Bastianelli, Suzanne Lingo, Robin Bunting, Stephanie Hughes and Veronica White. He also has many great nieces and great nephews.
Services will be at 1 p.m., Friday, July 7, at the Watson Funeral Home, 211 Washington St., Millsboro, where friends may call at noon. The Hon. Harriet Smith Windsor, secretary of state, will officiate.
Interment with military honors will be in the Millsboro cemetery.
Blanche E. Sobieski,
Wilmington homemaker
Blanche E. (Lutrzykowski) Sobieski, 93, of Wilmington, passed away on Sunday, July 2, 2006, at St. Francis Hospital.
Mrs. Sobieski was a lifelong resident of Wilmington, a homemaker, and a member of St. Hedwig Catholic Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John F. Sobieski Sr., in 1988; a brother, William Lutrzykowski; and sisters Mary Kaczorowski and Helen Czerwinski.
She is survived by her sons, John F. Sobieski, and his wife, Ellen, of Lewes, and Ronald F. Sobieski, of Wilmington; her daughter, Bernadette E. Sobieski, also of Wilmington; five grandchildren and their spouses, Kim and Gino Daniello, Pamela and Rick Murphy, Melissa and Walt Thompson, John F. and Michele Sobieski III, and Robert D. and Lisa Sobieski; 10 great-grandchildren; and two-great-great grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian burial was held at St. Hedwig Catholic Church, Wilmington, with entombment in the Crypt of St. Hedwig in Cathedral cemetery , Wilmington.
The family requests memorial contributions to the St. Hedwig School Fund, 408 S. Harrison Street, Wilmington DE 19805.
Norman H. Thomas,
World War II veteran
Norman H. Thomas, 82, of Milton, died Monday, July 3, at Bayhealth Medical Center-Milford Memorial Hospital in Milford. Mr. Thomas was born April 9, 1924, in Farmington, son of the late John Thomas, Jr. and Carrie Hood (Betts) Thomas. He lived in Milton most of his life.
Mr. Thomas had been employed as a security guard in the construction industry. He was a Delaware state skeet champion and a member of the National Skeet Association. He was a World War II Army veteran, and a member of VFW Post 6984 and American Legion Post 19 in Laurel.
He is survived by his longtime companion, Sara Wooten of Dover; two daughters, Robin L. Parker and Michele Guerin, both of Georgetown; a son, Jack Thomas of West Lake, La.; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
A committal service will be at 1 p.m., Tuesday, July 11, at Delaware Veterans Memorial cemetery

Christine Bullock,
retired seamstress
Christine Bullock, 81, of Milton, passed away Monday, July 3, 2006, at the home of her nephew in Milford.
Mrs. Bullock was born in Somerset, Ky., daughter of the late John P. and Madie Mounts Bullock.
She was a seamstress for the Milford Manufacturing Co. for 40 years.
She enjoyed coin collecting, playing bingo and solving word search puzzles.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Freddie Bullock and BeEler Howard Bullock; and a sister, Alice Mae Betts.
She is survived by a sister, Irene B. Hill of Milton; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, July 7, in the Chapel of Short Funeral Services, 416 Federal Street, Milton., where friends may call after noon. Burial will be in Odd Fellows cemetery , Milton.

Otelia Sterling,
retired nurse
Otelia Evans Sterling, 97, of Lewes, passed away Friday, June 30, at the Lewes Convalescent Center.
Mrs. Sterling was born on Smith Island, Md. and graduated from McCready Hospital School of Nursing.
She worked as a RN until she married in 1944. She was a member of Groome United Methodist Church in Lewes, where she had moved in 2003 to be nearer to her daughter, Judith Sterling Weseman and her husband, Roger.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ringgold L. Sterling in 1991; her parents, George and Dora Thorn Evans; three brothers, Bruce, Roosevelt and Enos Evans; and a sister, Myrtle Tyler.
In addition to her daughter, she is survived by her grandchildren, Jill and Brian Weseman, both of Washington; her niece, Lois Messler of Fla.; a step son-in-law, Lester Crockett; and a step-great granddaughter, Leslie Crockett, both of Maryland.
Services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, July 5, at Bradshaw & Sons Funeral Home, 306 W. Main St., Crisfield, Md., where friends may call after 10:30 a.m. Interment will be in Asbury cemetery , Crisfield.

Genevieve C. Zydanowicz,

Genevieve C. Gorecki Zydanowicz, 87, formerly of Wilmington and Milton, died Saturday, July 1, 2006, at JFK Hospital, Laurel Hospice Center, Atlantis, Fla.
Mrs. Zydanowicz was born in Wilmington, daughter of the late Adam and Kathryn (Brud) Gorecki. She had been a jewelry buyer for several department stores. She was a member of St. Jude the Apostle Catholic Church, Lewes; the Brandywine Senior Center in Wilmington; the Kiwanis Club and the USO Organization, both in Wilmington.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Zydanowicz, in 1999; two brothers, Charles and Joseph Gorecki; and a sister, Ann Godwin.
She is survived by a daughter, Barbara Friend of Boynton Beach, Fla.; a son, Robert Alan Zydanowicz of Cosby, Tenn.; a brother, John Gorecki of Lewes; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Services will beheld at 11 a.m., Thursday, July 6, at the Chapel of the Delaware Veterans Memorial cemetery , Millsboro, where interment will follow. There will be no public viewing. Flowers will be accepted. Arrangements by Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Lewes.
Dr. John Vinton Clift,
chief surgeon, professor
Dr. John “Jack” Vinton Clift, of Jacksonville, Fla. and formerly of Baltimore, Md., died Thursday, June 29, 2006.
Dr. Clift was born March 14, 1926, and entered Johns Hopkins University at the age of 17, only to withdraw early to serve his country during World War II. At age 19, he was commissioned a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army.
Returning after the war, in 1946 he resumed his education at the Hampden-Sydney College in Farmdale, Va., graduating magna cum laude, and then graduating in the top quarter of his class from the University of Maryland School of Medicine in 1953. In 1954, he had a surgical rotating internship at Sinai Hospital of Baltimore. He did his surgical residency at Union Memorial Hospital from 1954 to 1955. One of his largest contributions to the medical world was his part in the Surgical Research Fellowship and the development of the first heart and lung bypass machine.
Dr. Clift also very much enjoyed teaching surgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital. In 1957, he was elected as a member of the Johns Hopkins Medical and Surgical Association. In 1963, he was elected to the American College of Surgeons. In 1970 at the age of 44, he was made chief of surgery at Commonwealth Doctors Hospital and in 1975, was elected president of the medical staff. In 1978, he obtained membership in the American College of Emergency Physicians. In 1980, he married his current wife and was a devoted and loving husband for more than 25 years. In 1985, he was honored by his inclusion in Volume 1 of the “Who’s Who in International Medicine” for his accomplishments and contributions to the world of medicine.
Jack enjoyed horses and actively bred, trained and showed Arabian horses. He also had a love for flying, earning his private pilot’s license. He was a wonderful husband and father and truly enjoyed life. He also enjoyed teaching, skiing, woodworking, polo, sailing and gardening.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Georgia Obrecht Clift, also of Baltimore; two children, daughter Valerie Dale of Virginia and her husband Jack, and their children Carrie and Nicholas; and his son John Moore of Connecticut, his wife Patti and their children, Jake and Katherine.
There will be no local services, and the family requests donations in lieu of flowers to the American Heart Association in remembrance of a great man.
Carolyn M. Williams,

Carolyn (Manahan) Williams, 82, of Laurel, died Thursday, June 29, 2006, in Coastal Hospice at the Lake, Salisbury, Md.
Mrs. Williams was born in Florence, S.C., daughter of the late Frank Reese and Stella Butler Manahan.
She attended Caesar Rodney High School, Camden. She was a graduate of Arlington Hall, Arlington, Va., and the Women’s College of Duke University, where she was a member and past president of Zeta Tau Alpha fraternity.
Mrs. Williams was a member of the Rehoboth Beach Country Club, Seaford Country Club, Laurel Century Club and the friends of the Laurel Library. She was a church circle leader for 30 years, a past president of the United Methodist Women, a past chairman of the Antique Show, secretary-treasurer of the board of trustees and member of the administrative council. She also was an active member of Centenary United Methodist Church, Laurel, where she taught Sunday school.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, W. Robert Williams, in 1999.
She is survived by a son and a daughter-in-law, Harvey D. and Kathleen Williams of Clarks Summit, Pa.; a daughter, Carol R. Williams of Cincinnati; two grandchildren, Katherine Butler Mahon of Cincinnati and Kyle Robert Williams of Clarks Summit; and several nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life service was held in Centenary United Methodist Church, Laurel with burial private in Laurel Hill cemetery.

Mary Lou Willey Rust,

Mary Lou (Willey) Rust, 74, of Rehoboth Beach, died Wednesday, June 28, 2006, in her home, surrounded by her family.
Mrs. Rust was born June 29, 1931, in Milton, daughter of the late Layton and Arzie Anna (Carpenter) Willey.
Her foster parents were Preston and Nelly (Linnane) Millman.
She was a graduate of Lewes High School.
She and her husband operated a family dairy farm until his death in 1994.
Mrs. Rust was a very loving and caring individual who loved her family, gardening and cooking. She was a great cook.
In addition to her parents and foster parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Victor A. Rust Jr.; four brothers, Marshall Willey, Albert Willey, Theodore Willey and Russel Willey; two sisters, Margret Seelig and Marion Anna Willey; and a foster brother, Enoch Millman.
She is survived by a son and a daughter-in-law, Victor A. III and Mechelle Rust of Rehoboth Beach; a daughter and a son-in-law, MaryAnn and Earl D. Warren of Rehoboth Beach; four grandchildren, Nelson Warren, Nathaniel Warren, Ashley Rust and Chris Rust; a great-grandson, Hayden L. Roy; a brother, James Willey of Laurel; two sisters, Helen Davis of Laurel and Jeanette King of Connecticut; a foster brother, James Layton; a foster sister, Helen Millman; and a host of half-brothers, half-sisters, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Rehoboth Presbyterian Church of Midway cemetery , 19075 Coastal Highway. The Rev. Keith Offen will officiate.
