Kathi Thompson Booth,

Kathi Thompson Booth, 52, of Georgetown, died Saturday, Dec. 16, 2006, at Beebe Medical Center, surrounded by her loving family and many friends following a long battle with cancer,
Kathi was born Aug. 17, 1954, in Lewes, the daughter of Joan Thompson and the late Harold “Buck” Thompson.
Upon graduating from Penncrest High School in Media, Pa., she attended Wesley College in Dover. After moving back to Lewes in 1972, she worked at Beebe Hospital in the laboratory for the Blood Bank of Delaware.
Following her marriage to the late Al Booth of Georgetown, she was a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, an active member of Sussex Central Football Boosters and a past member of Sussex Pines Country Club. Kathi was an avid sports enthusiast and a loyal booster for any and all activities in which her children participated. She loved spending hours on the beach at Broadkill and Cape Henlopen State Park, and especially Lewes. Family and friends will remember her for her love of celebrating all special occasions with a party and decorating her home for each event. In later years, her many challenges were med with the same wonderful sense of humor that was the fun and life of any gathering,
She is survived by her five children, William “Buck” Booth and his fiancée, Lara Syby, Meg Booth Lawson and her husband Cliff, Joan “Allisa” Booth, Mark Booth and Spencer Booth; her mother, Joan Thompson of Rehoboth Beach; her sister and brother-in-law, Shelly and Fred Sposato of Milton; and a large extended family.
Friends and family are invited to a celebration of her life from 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 20, at Georgetown Fire Hall, 100 South Bedford St. Burial will be private.

Ludmila Liska,

Ludmila Liska of Rehoboth Beach and Bethesda, Md. died peacefully at home Friday, Dec. 15, 2006, just three months shy of her 104th birthday. She lived with her son, John.
She was born on March 13, 1903 in Slovakia, then a province of Hungary, in the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Following World War I, she became a school teacher in the newly formed Republic of Czechoslovakia and taught school until her marriage in 1924 to Jan Liska.
Her husband was a career foreign service officer of Czechoslovakia. His postings were mostly in the United States, with interim postings in Prague. Their three children were all born in the United States. Following Soviet takeover of Czechoslovakia in 1948, her husband was dismissed from the Foreign Service, and they retired to a cottage in the farming village where Ludmila was born. In 1966 they were allowed to emigrate to the United States to be with their children. Her husband died in 1975.
Ludmila loved flowers, gardening and all kinds of handwork, but most of all she loved her children, her grandchildren, and her great-grandchildren. She is survived by her son, John; a daughter Ellen Herd, also of Rehoboth Beach; a son-in-law Ken Cannon of Annapolis, Md.; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Contributions in her memory may be made to Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 7730 Bradley Boulevard, Bethesda, MD 20817, where a memorial service will be held Saturday, Jan. 6, at 11 a.m. Interment will be at Parklawn Memorial Park immediately following.
Nina Gene Denny,

Nina Gene Tulus Denny, 82, of Dowell, Md., passed away at her residence Sunday, Dec. 17, 2006, in the presence of her daughter, Elizabeth.
She was born March 14, 1924 in Berkeley, Calif., daughter of the late Eugene and Olga Hlebnikova Tulus.
Mrs. Denny grew up in Wilmington. She graduated from Mary Grove College in Detroit, Mich. where she met her husband, the late Andrew Michael Denny, who died in 2004.
The family lived in Germany for 18 years while Mr. Denny served first with the U.S. Army during World War II, and then as a civilian with U.S. Army Intelligence. Upon returning to the United States, the family resided in Silver Spring, Md. and Rehoboth Beach for many years, eventually making their last residence in Leonardtown, Md.
Mrs. Denny raised four children.
She was known for her extraordinary kindness, selflessness, loyalty, and graciousness. Likewise, she was very talented and creative with her art work, she was a wonderful cook, she was so much fun, and only saw the good in everyone. She loved the beach.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter Mary Ann Sebring in 1987.
She is survived by her son, Michael Andrew Denny of Leonardtown, Md.; two daughters, Elizabeth Anne Denny of Dowell, and her fiance, Michael Nova of Woodbridge, Va. and JoAnn Clark and her husband David of Owings, Md.; a former daughter-in-law, Nikki Denny of Silver Spring, Md.; a former son-in-law, Edward Sebring of Columbia, Md.; four grandchildren, Christine Elizabeth Denny, Catherine Marie Denny, Michael John Sebring and his fiancee Jeannine Friesner, and John Andrew Denny; and a great-granddaughter, Devyn.
All services are private. Arrangements are being handled by Parsell Funeral Homes.

Alexa Nevaeh Sterner,

Alexa Nevaeh Sterner, newborn daughter of David Sterner and Tracey Sinnott, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2006, at the Beebe Medical Center in Lewes.
A person is a person, no matter how small. Unto us a child is born, a special child for a special reason. We don’t pretend to understand, only to accept and to love. But, love goes on forever.
Our joys will be greater, our love deeper, our lives fuller because we shared her moment.
Some people only dream of angels, we held one in our arms. What we remember lives on. Our dreams are sure going to miss her.
We are sad to announce the short life of our baby girl Alexa. She came and went in an instant Dec. 13, taking with her a lifetime of hopes and dreams we had for her. We will hold her in our hearts forever.
Along with her parents, she is survived by her maternal grandmother, Michelle Hayes; maternal great-grandparents, Marietta and Robert Giles; paternal great grandmother, Sylvia Powers; and several loving aunts, uncles and cousins.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday Dec. 20, at the Long Neck United Methodist Church, Long Neck Road, Millsboro. Burial will be private.

Sharen A. Vandermark, 50, of Selbyville, and formerly of Georgetown, passed away surrounded by her loving family Saturday, Dec. 16, 2006, at her home.
Mrs. Vandermark was born Aug. 13, 1956 in Wilmington, to Donald and Elizabeth Myers Handlin.
She was a dispatcher for Comcast Cable for a number of years. Sharen was a devoted mother, daughter and a great friend. She loved music, crocheting, and doing word and crossword puzzles.
Sharen was a friend and companion to everyone she knew and will be deeply missed by all.
She is survived by her mother, Elizabeth Lickman, and stepfather Chaz Lickman; a fiancée with whom she lived for four years Steven Wacker; a son, Christopher Vandermark; a brother, Steven Handlin and his wife Diane; and a stepson, Philip Vandermark.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday Dec. 20, at the Long Neck Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, Long Neck Road, Millsboro. Burial will be private.

Rose Borrelli

Mrs. Rose (Casapulla) Borrelli, 76, of Hockessin, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 14, 2006.
Mrs. Borrelli was born in Wilmington on Dec. 9, 1930, daughter of the late Luigi and Anna (Zampini) Casapulla.
Rose offered more than 30 years of exemplary service with the state of Delaware working as an accredited record technician at the Emily Bissel Hospital. She was later a co-owner of Casapulla’s Sub Shop in Hockessin, working there until its closing in 1999. Rose was also a longtime parishioner of St. Anthony of Padua Church.
Mrs. Borrelli is survived by her devoted husband of 53 years, Paul L. Borrelli; daughter, Paula LaPenta and her husband, Michael, of Rehoboth Beach; brothers, Joseph Casapulla and his wife, Gerry, of Hockessin, Andrew Casapulla and his wife, Arlene, and Louis Casapulla and his wife, Rosemarie, all of Elsmere; sisters, Vincetta Sparco and her husband, Louis, Marion Stalloni, Philomena Carey, and Jeanne DiFrancesco and her husband, John, all of Elsmere; grandchildren, Jackie and Jason LaPenta; several nieces and nephews; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

John Wayne Riddle,

John Wayne Riddle, 68, of Frankford passed away peacefully Thursday, Dec. 14, 2006, in his home, surrounded by his loving family.
Mr. Riddle was born in Seaford, son of the late David and Virginia (Huskins) Riddle.
He served in the National Guard.
Mr. Riddle worked in the maintenance department of Perdue for 40 years.
He looked forward to attending the Delaware State Fair in Harrington and Pony Penning in Chincoteague, Va., each year.
Mr. Riddle was a hard working, devoted father and husband, who loved taking care of his family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Nesia Faye Riddle, in April of this year.
He is survived by their three sons, Mark Riddle, Kenny Riddle and Billy Riddle, all of Frankford; eight sisters, Hazel Chason of Florida, Yvonne Parker of Millsboro, Betty Norman of Georgetown and Dorothy Hudson, Vivian LeCates, Linda Pase, Brenda Townsend and Cindy Riddle, all of Millsboro; and four brothers, Bobby Riddle, Glen Riddle and Allan Riddle, all of Millsboro, and Dallas Riddle of Laurel.
Services were held in the Frankford Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, Thatcher Street, Frankford, with burial in Dagsboro Redmens Memorial cemetery.

Meredith E. Morris

Meredith E. (Johnson) Morris, 85, of Lewes, died Saturday, Dec. 9, 2006, in Lewes Convalescent Center after a lengthy illness.
Mrs. Morris was born March 26, 1921, in the Rabbits Ferry area of rural Lewes, daughter of the late Ella Mae (Wright) and William L. Johnson.
She spent her entire life in the Lewes area, a devoted wife to her husband. For many years she was the local Avon lady.
Mrs. Morris was very caring and concerned about her siblings and other family members.
She was one of the founding members of Christ Church under the Rev. Ethelbert L. Maddox in 1958.
Mrs. Morris served on the senior choir, communion steward and faithful custodian.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Martin J. Morris, in 1982.
She is survived by her twin sister, Thelma H. Morris of Lewes; a son, Tony Hughes of Lewes; four nieces, Merle Ann Morris and Elda Mae Wright, both of Lewes, and Crissy Morris and Ruth Morris, both of New Jersey; a nephew, Harvey C. Morris of Lewes; a godson, Harvey Quentin Morris of Phoenix, Ariz.; two grandchildren, Anthony Hughes of Lewes and Michelle Downing of Georgetown; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Services were held in Israel United Methodist Church, Lewes, with burial in Christ Church cemetery . Arrangements by Miller Funeral Services, Lewes.
Mary H. Ward,

Mary H. Ward, 75, of Dagsboro, and formerly of Washington, DC, passed away Thursday Dec. 14, 2006 at the Atlantic General Hospital in Berlin, Md.
She was a 1951 graduate of the Garfield School of Nursing of Washington, DC.
A retired registered nurse and hospital administrator, she was formerly Hospital Administrator at the Washington Hospital Center and Montgomery General Hospital and a registered nurse at Beebe Medical Center in Lewes.
Mary was a former South Bethany Police Commissioner. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter G. Ward in 2003.
She is survived by two daughters, Laura Nicholson and her husband William, Margaret Haas and her husband Scott; five grandchildren, Adam D. Wheeler, Katherine and Allison Haas, William and Angela Nicholson; and a brother: Gerald E. Hoak of Hagerstown, Md.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 20 in the chapel of the Delaware Veterans Memorial cemetery

Phyllis E. Harnsberger

Phyllis Edna Harnsberger, 82, of Millsboro, formerly of Baltimore, Md., passed away Sunday, Dec. 16, 2006 at Green Valley Terrace Nursing Home in Millsboro.
Mrs. Harnsberger was born March 9, 1924 in Frederick, Md. to the late Harvey Russel and Mary Louise Davis Louden.
She was a custodian for 1st National Bank in Baltimore before her retirement.
She is survived by her husband of 30 years, Robert K. Harnsberger; a son, George Couch of Baltimore; a daughter, Sandra Shepherd of Florida; two stepsons, Tom and Robert Harnsberger both of Baltimore; and five grandchildren. A funeral service will be held at 4 p.m., Tuesday Dec.19, at the Long Neck Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, Long Neck Road, Millsboro where friends and family may call after 2 p.m. Interment will be private.
William L. Hayes Sr.,

William Lee “Jake” Hayes Sr., 69, of Milton died peacefully Thursday, Dec. 7, 2006, in his home after a short battle with cancer.
Mr. Hayes was born May 8, 1937, in Painter, Va., son of the late Anna Hayes. He received his education in the Virginia public school system.
He was employed by Allen’s Food in Harbeson, until his illness began in October 2006. He was a night shift evisceration floor man. He had also worked for Townsends, Millsboro and H&H Poultry, Selbyville, totaling 40 years in the poultry industry. Other jobs he held were Phillips Crab House as a cook, and in his earlier years he worked for Cropper Oyster Co., Dagsboro.
Mr. Hayes was a member of the Landmark Baptist Tabernacle, Milton, under the leadership of Pastor Leslie Freeman Sr.
William’s favorite pastimes were cooking and barbecuing for his family and friends. He enjoyed his vacations to Virginia at Best Western. He looked forward to friend and family day every August.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara, whom he married Dec. 24, 1960; five children and their spouses, Lynne and Harry Brown of Bridgeville, William Jr. and Rene Hayes of Milton, Wallace Hayes and his girlfriend, Ann Gibbs of Seaford, Orice Hayes of Milton, and Chanett R. and Wendell Cannon of Seaford; a brother, James A Hayes of Newport News, Va.; a sister, Estell Lee of Philadelphia; a very special niece, Michelle Lee of Philadelphia; three adopted sons, Anthony Watson of Salisbury, Md., and Theodore Chesson and Alanzo Frisby, both of Coverdale; two special aunts, Mildred Pitts of Virginia and Pearlee Jackson of Maryland; an uncle, Awdry Jackson of Maryland; two brothers-in-law, the Rev. Michael and Unis Turner of Maryland and Jay of Painter, Va.; a sister-in-law, Kerry Turner; his mother-in-law, Florie Haley of Dagsboro; 19 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
