L. Amelia Carmine,
Stockley employee
L. Amelia “Penny” Carmine, 84, of Millsboro, died Monday, Dec. 11, 2006, at Green Valley Terrace, Millsboro.
She was the daughter of the late George A. and Ellen Pepper Penuel Sr. Her husband, Elias G. Carmine Sr., died in 1993.
Mrs. Carmine retired from Stockley Center with 20 years of service. She had been a member of the ladies auxiliary of the Indian River Volunteer Fire Co., a member of the George A. Penuel Memorial DAV Post Millsboro, and ladies auxiliary of Post 7422. She was also a member of the Georgetown VFW ladies auxiliary and a lifetime member and past commander of the VFW ladies auxiliary in Millsboro.
She is survived by her children, Benjamin A. Carmine and wife Susan of Newark, Donald B. Carmine and wife Natasha of Newark, Elisa G Carmine Jr. and wife Patricia of Millsboro, Rebecca C. McCarty of Lewes, and Joan E. Carmine of Georgetown; 10 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, Dec. 15, at Watson Funeral Home, 211 Washington St. Millsboro, Delaware, where friends may call at 10 a.m. Rev. Robert Hudson. Burial will be in Millsboro cemetery.
Joseph Noah Callaway,
retired educator
Joseph Noah Callaway, 83, of Milton, died Monday, Dec. 11, 2006, at Bayhealth-Milford Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Callaway was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving during World War II in the amphibious forces in the Pacific.
He was a teacher in the cabinet making and millwork department at Sussex Vo-Tech School in Georgetown for 24 years, retiring in 1985. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Milton, the Milton Senior Center and the American Legion Post 20. He was preceded in death by his parents, Grover and Elizabeth James, and his first wife, Virginia Callaway, in 1991.
He is survived by his wife of 13 years, Norma Brittingham Callaway; three sons, Wayne and his wife Janet, Dale and his wife Cindy and Vaughn L. and his wife Linda, all of Milton; a daughter, Elaine F. Moore and her husband John of Atlantic Beach, N.C.; a stepdaughter, Dawn Lynn Adams and her husband Keith of Chesapeake, Va.; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two step-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 16 in the Chapel of Short Funeral Services, 416 Federal Street, Milton, where friends may call after 11 a.m. Pastor Paul Simonsen will officiate. Interment will be in Milford Community cemetery , Milford.

Robert G. Weible III,
retired draftsman
Robert George Weible III, 73, of Georgetown, died Tuesday, Dec. 5 2006, at Beebe Medical Center in Lewes.
Mr. Weible was born in Arden, son of the late Robert George Weible, Jr. and Kathryn Ann (Way) Weible.
He and his wife relocated to Sussex County in 1985 from Folsom, PA. He had been employed by the former Westinghouse Power Generation Division, Lester, Pa., as a layout draftsman for 31 years. Mr. Weible was a member of the Lewes Senior Center and the American Legion Post 8, Georgetown. He served in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955.
Mr. Weible is survived by his wife Patricia Jean (Moore) Weible; two daughters, Roberta Jean Rucier and her husband Raymond J. of Milmont, Pa., and Lori Ann Wieble of Media, Pa.; two brothers, William Walter Weible and his wife Sara Jane of Arden and Richard Allan Weible and his wife Grace Evelyn of Folsom, Pa.; and three grandchildren, Stephanie Ellen Rucier, Andrew Robert Rucier, and Ryan James Rucier, all of Milmont, Pa.
Funeral services were held at Knoetgen Funeral Home, Morton, Pa., with interment in Philadelphia Memorial Park, Malvern, Pa.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Georgetown EMS, P.O. Box 202, Georgetown, DE 19947.

Edward C Patterson Jr.,
George & Lynch retiree
Edward C. “Pat” Patterson Jr., 79, died Sunday, Dec. 10, 2006, in Harbor Healthcare, Lewes.
Mr. Patterson was born in Dover, Ohio, son of the late Edward C. Sr. and Jennie (McCormick) Campbell.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy as a chief construction mechanic for more than 20 years.
Mr. Patterson later worked for George and Lynch in Maryland as a mechanic and heavy equipment operator.
He enjoyed fishing and crabbing in his pontoon boat, as well as working on wooden models, especially boat models and antique vehicles. Mr. Patterson was on the staffs of Presidents Eisenhower, Kennedy and Johnson. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Mary Isabelle Patterson; a daughter and a son-in-law, Saundra and Bruce Slagel of Seaford; a son, Joseph H. and Runae Green of Greenwood; four grandchildren, Joseph H. Green IV, Tyna Bledsoe, Michael Green and Greg Porter; and three great-grandchildren, Brennen Bledsoe, Kerrigan Bledsoe and Zachary Porter.
Memorial services were held in the chapel of Short Funeral Services, Georgetown, with burial private. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 100 W. 10th St., Suite 1002, Wilmington, DE 19801.
William Drummond I
Hardwood Mills retiree
William H. “Henny Poop” Drummond I, 49, of Millsboro, died of natural causes Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2006, in Beebe Medical Center, Lewes.
Mr. Drummond was last employed by Hardwood Mills Lumber Co. of Frankford, from where he retired due to his failing health and medical disability.
He enjoyed life to the fullest. He could always be counted upon by his family and friends to tell jokes and keep them in stitches.
Mr. Drummond was also blessed with the talent for drawing.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James Drummond and Lelia M. Drummond-Dale; and a sister, Vera E. Curtis.
He is survived by four sons, Christopher Purnell of Millsboro, William Henry Drummond II and Dione Drummond, both of Felton, and Shawn Heffentrager of Millsboro; a daughter, Tashika Osborn of Cambridge, Md.; eight grandchildren; three sisters, Sharon Johnson and her companion, DeAngelo Fisher of Millsboro, with whom he resided, Ida and David Bowen of Clarksville and Edith West of Millsboro; two brothers and two sisters-in-law, James G. and Betty Drummond of Georgetown and Timothy Drummond and his companion, Francine Custis of Gumboro; three uncles, William Drummond of Dagsboro, Josiah Isler of Salisbury, Md., and Sidney Bivens of Princess Anne, Md.; and two aunts, Cordelia Hopkins of Millsboro and Francine Scott of Salisbury.
Funeral services were held in St. John’s Second Baptist Church, Mount Joy, Millsboro, with burial in Mount Joy cemetery , Millsboro.

Thomas M. Rhue, 77, of Lewes, passed away Monday, Dec, 11, 2006, at the Harbor Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center in Lewes.
He was born in Winston Salem, N. C., son of the late, Joseph Rhue and Monnie Alice Southern Rhue.
He was a self employed brick mason and served in the United States Navy.
He is survived by two brothers, George T. Rhue of Garden Grove, Calif., and Jerry C. Rhue of Hacienda Heights, Calif.; and a sister, Joanne Harrison of Las Vegas.
A private service will be held at a later date. Arrangements by Melson Funeral Services of Long Neck.
Florence E. Ribinsky,

Florence E. Ribinsky, 85, of Millsboro, died Sunday Dec. 10, 200, Beebe Medical Center in Lewes.
She was born July 29, 1921, in Lewes, daughter of the late Jack Lawton and Catherine Ingram Lawton. Mrs. Ribinsky loved gardening, knitting, reading and being around family on the farm.
She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph A. Ribinsky Sr.
She is survived by her sons, John L. Ribinsky Sr. and wife Catherine of Hauser Lake, Idaho; and Joseph A. Ribinsky Jr. and wife Sandra of Millsboro; sisters, Elizabeth Baker and Patricia Paynter of Millsboro; and Jackie Travis of Rehoboth Beach; grandchildren, Joseph A. Ribinsky III and wife Patti, Robert E. Ribinsky Sr., John L. Ribinsky Jr. and wife Diana, Cindie Owen and husband Rich; great-grandchildren Joseph E. Ribinsky, Eleah Ribinsky, Lindsay Ribinsky, Robert Edward Ribinsky Jr; Paige Wright, Brooke Wright, Devin Owen, Braden Owen, Zachary Ribinsky, and Jake Thrashe.

Thelma Mae Rickards,

Thelma Mae Simpler Rickards, 87, of Burns, Tenn., formerly of Seaford and Laurel, passed away Thursday, Dec. 7, 2006, at her residence.
Mrs. Rickards was born June 25, 1919, in Lewes, daughter of the late Theodore and Edith Dorman Simpler. Prior to relocating to Tennessee to reside with her daughter, Mrs. Rickards was a member of St. John’s U.M. Church of Seaford; a member of the Acorn Club and AARP; past president and treasurer of the PTA for the former Blades Elementary School; past member of U.M.W. Rebecka Circle Leader and past treasurer. She enjoyed traveling and crafts.
She is survived by her two daughters, Suesann Rickards and Joan R. Brown and her husband William H. Brown Jr.; and a granddaughter, Christine M. Brown.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Dec. 15, 2 p.m., at Bethel United Methodist Church, 129 W. Fourth Street, Lewes, where friends may call one hour prior to the service; The Rev. John W. Field,
management consultant
John W. Field, 91, of Rehoboth Beach, died Friday, Dec. 8, 2006, at his residence.
He was an author, engineer, and economist with a distinguished career in the corporate world as a management consultant. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y. in 1915, he was the son of the late Rev. Herbert Field, and Catherine Williamson. His brother Herbert and sister Catherine pre-deceased John.
He graduated from Columbia University with an undergraduate degree in civil engineering and a graduate degree in economics; he also received an advanced degree in finance from the Wharton School. He served in World War II as an officer in the Navy and his early career was spent as an engineer with Bethlehem Steel and General Motors.
After World War II, he became a general management consultant, an associate of Robert Heller & Associates, a partner of Peat Marwick Mitchell & Co., CEO of Medi-Comp, and then president of his own company.
As a consultant, he worked at the board level of a dozen Fortune 200 companies and helped realign Bowater, Carborundum, Citgo, Convair, the Department of Defense, General Electric, Kaiser Motors, McGraw Hill, New York State, Puerto Rico, the U. S. Navy, Westinghouse, and others.
For several years he was a faculty member of the New School for Social Research in NYC and conducted a weekly cable TV show on economics. He has written a score of magazine articles and produced more than a dozen industry monograms and several books including Group Practice Development, a seminal work in the field of medical economics. His development of an economic theory, which he named “Econodynamics,” began in the 1970’s and resulted in the publication of his major work, “Our Economy: Why It’s Not Working and How to Fix It.”
His wife of 39 years, Linda Loughton Field, and their daughter Melissa, of Atlanta, Ga., survive him. He is the father of five children by his first wife, the late Kathleen Strausbaugh. He has eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, four nieces and three nephews. His children are John H. (Janet) Field of Vineland, N.J., Sally (James) Sabatino of Wytheville, Va., Stephen (Claire) Field of Wallingford, Pa., and Sister Jane Field of the Sisters of St. Joseph Convent in Philadelphia, and the Rev. Michael Field of the Queen of Heaven Parish in Cherry Hill, N.J. John and his wife have lived in Huntington, Long Island, N.Y., New Canaan, Conn., and New York City before making their home in Delaware. While John was semi-retired as a writer, Linda Field continued her corporate work in New York City and now works as a freelance management consultant. A member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she is a community organist and dean of the Southern Delaware Chapter of the American Guild of Organists.

Anne Pope S. Thompson

Anne Pope St. Thompson, 86, of Wilmington passed away peacefully at Wilmington Hospital, Friday, Dec. 8, 2006.
Born in Baltimore, Mrs. Thompson was the daughter of the late Daniel and Margaret Popovich, and wife of the late William O. Thompson Sr., her spouse of 25 years. She was a member of St. John the Beloved Church.
Mrs. Thompson is survived by her brothers and sisters-in-law, Stephen and Helen Popovich of San Jose, Calif., and Peter and Mary Popovich of Lewes; her stepson, William O. Thompson Jr., of Wilmington; her step-grandsons, William O. Thompson III and his wife, Brooke, of Bear, DE and Robert Thompson of Wilmington; her step-granddaughter, Melissa Thompson of Wilmington; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to Cathy Morgan and to those who provided care for her in her home as well as the staffs at Manor Care Foulk Road and at Heartland Hospice.
Friends are invited to a memorial service at noon, Friday, Dec. 15, at Mealey Funeral Home, Limestone and Milltown roads, Wilmington, where visitation will be at 11 a.m. Entombment will be private.

Robert G. Snyder,
retired from DAFB
Robert G. Snyder, 92, of Dover, died peacefully surrounded by his family Friday, Dec. 8, 2006 at Capitol Healthcare Services, Dover.
Mr. Snyder was born Aug. 1, 1914, in Danville, Pa., to the late Leroy Snyder and Roseanna Heller Snyder. Mr. Snyder retired as a civil service employee at the Dover Air Force Base supply, after 35 years as a foreman. Mr. Snyder was a member of the Moose Lodge in Danville.
Mr. Snyder was preceded in by his beloved wife of 57 years, Marian Cormier Snyder.
He is survived by his three daughters, Linda Tease and her husband, Bruce, of Newark, Denise Holleger and her husband, Bayard, of Rehoboth and Diane Woodring and her husband, Charles of Hockessin; his grandchildren, Bree Tease, Kelly Holleger and Charles Woodring.
Services will be private.
