Katherine Ell Hitchens,

Katherine Ellen Hitchens, 46, of Rehoboth Beach died Friday, Dec. 8, 2006, in her home.
Ms. Hitchens was born in Philadelphia, daughter of the late Preston W. Sr. and Martha Libis Hitchens. She completed her undergraduate work at Salisbury State University and received her master’s degree in social work from Delaware State University.
Although Ms. Hitchens never secured full-time employment in social work, she was a long-term employee of Grotto Pizza and Bob Evans in the Rehoboth Beach area. She was devoted to the Epworth United Methodist Church. Ms. Hitchens was an avid supporter of the Epilepsy Foundation, as she herself had struggled for many years with the illness.
She is survived by a sister, Ruth Donges and her companion, Greg Jarvis, both of Rehoboth Beach; a brother and a sister-in-law, Preston and Maureen Hitchens of Berlin, N.J.; a niece, Alyson Amour of Berlin; two nephews, Christopher Donges of Rehoboth Beach and Christopher Amour of Orlando, Fla.; her beloved friends, John and Collette Cavanaugh of Chevy Chase, Md., to whom she was devoted; and many loving relatives.
Services will be 11 a.m., Tuesday, Dec. 12, in Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, where friends may call one hour earlier. The Rev. Jack Abel will officiate. Burial will be in Odd Fellows cemetery , Milton.
The family suggests memorial contributions to Epworth United Methodist Church, 30 Baltimore Ave., Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971.
Zachary J. Street,

Zachary J. Street, 5, of Smyrna passed away Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2006, in Alfred. I. DuPont Hospital for Children, Wilmington, following a lifelong battle with lung disease.
He was born Nov. 29, 2001, in Dover, son of Scott S. and Angel (Parker) Street.
Zachary enjoyed helping with cooking, watching the Food Network on TV and making people smile.
He is survived by his parents, Scott and Angel Street; his maternal grandparents, John and Deborah Parker of Smyrna; his paternal grandparents, Fred and Sharon Street of Smyrna; his maternal great-grandmother, Mary Outten of New Castle; his paternal great-grandparents, Bill and Alice Nauman of Milton; and his loving dog, Sam.
A Mass of Christian burial was held in St. Matthew’s Catholic Church, 901 E. Newport Pike, Newport, with burial in All Saints cemetery , Wilmington.

Theresa Boyd,

Theresa (Hurdle) Boyd, 79, of Lewes died Thursday, Nov. 23, 2006, in Beebe Medical Center, Lewes.
She was born June 7, 1927, in Norfolk, Va., daughter of the late George and Florine Hurdle.
Mrs. Boyd’s greatest joy and passion was cooking and preparing food for others.
She worked as a cook for the University of Delaware College of Marine Studies on the Cape Henlopen research vessel as the head cook.
She was known to have made the best meals afloat.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Session Boyd Sr.; a son, William Boyd; a sister, Florine Scott; and a nephew whom she loved like a son, George Hurdle.
She is survived by a son, Session Boyd Jr. of Georgetown; a sister, AnaBelle Hurdle Williams; four grandchildren, Melissa Boyd Washington of Virginia, William Boyd Jr. of Hawaii, Ocean Boyd of Alabama and Sherry Boyd of Maryland; and a step-granddaughter, Sherry Lyn Boyd of Alabama.
Services were in Cape Henlopen State Park, Lewes.

Robert Gene Snyder,

Robert Gene Snyder, 92, of Dover died peacefully Friday, Dec. 8, 2006, in Capitol Healthcare Services, Dover, surrounded by his family.
Mr. Snyder was born Aug. 1, 1914, in Danville, Pa., son of the late Leroy and Roseanna (Heller) Snyder.
He retired as a civil service employee at the Dover Air Force Base supply after 35 years as a foreman.
Mr. Snyder was a member of the Moose Lodge in Danville and Harrington, and NARFE of Dover.
He was preceded in by his beloved wife of 57 years, Marian (Cormier) Snyder.
He is survived by three daughters and three sons-in-law, Linda and Bruce Tease of Newark, Denise and Bayard Holleger of Rehoboth Beach and Diane and Charles Woodring of Hockessin; and three grandchildren, Bree Tease, Kelly Holleger and Charles Woodring.
Services were private.

Dorothy Wilma Adams,

Dorothy Wilma Adams, 86, of Georgetown died Friday, Dec. 8, 2006, in Bayhealth-Milford Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Adams was born in Milton, daughter of the late Harry Paynter and Louise (Griffin) Johnson.
She was a World War II U.S. Army veteran. She received the Victory Medal and Meritorius Unit Service Plaque.
Mrs. Adams worked in the Cytogenetic
Lab at the Stockley Center for 25 years retiring in 1980.
She loved to be surrounded by her loving family, enjoyed generations of Little League games and camping vacations to Trailsend Campground.
Mrs. Adams was a member of the Epworth Fellowship Church, Laurel and Disabled American Veterans.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two husbands, Howard A. Walstead Sr. and Gerald J. Walker; a brother, Uhland H. Johnson Sr.; and a son, Howard “Bud” Walstead Jr., in 2005.
She is survived by her third husband of 37 years, Roscoe B. Adams; a daughter, Denise W. Walstead of Milton; two sons and two daughters-in-law, Gary J.H. and Bonnie S. Walstead of Georgetown and James J. and Elizabeth Walker of Clearwater, Fla.; a daughter-in-law, Bonnie L. Walstead of Milton; two sisters, Jean Murphy of Milton and Lillian Mitchell of Virginia Beach, Va.; 11 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Services were held in the chapel of Short Funeral Services, Milton, with burial in Henlopen Memorial Park, Milton. Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 163, Salisbury, MD 21803-0163.
Ralph F. Williams Jr.,
was Lewes councilman
Ralph F. Williams Jr., 91, died Thursday, Nov. 30, 2006, at Sunrise of Westtown Pa.
He was born April 26, 1915, to Ralph and Edith Williams. A native of Delmar, he resided in Lewes for more than 60 years. After attending Duke University, he worked many years in service and marketing for a number of different companies. His years as corporate service manager for the Wayne Pump Company in Salisbury, Md., and his work at the University of Delaware College of Marine Studies in Lewes were the highlights of his career.
Ralph was also active in the towns of Delmar and Lewes, serving on town council, the planning commission and the Lewes Kite Festival Committee. Ralph was a 32nd degree Mason and a 60-year member of Jefferson Lodge No. 15 A.F. &A.M. of Delaware.
He was married to the former Margaret Beebe, who predeceased him in 2003. He was also predeceased by his sister, Nettie Ellen Pollitt, in 1997.
He is survived by his two children, Jane Carroll of Thornton, Pa. and Ralph F. Williams III of Lewes, and their spouses Robert and Bonnie; six grandchildren and their spouses, Susan and Bob Ricciuti, Bryan and Lauren Williams, John and Heather Carroll, Andrew and Rita Williams, Joanna and Jim Sebald and Brett Williams; six great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Elsie Swezey and Jean Ingram; and brothers-in-law, Dr. James Beebe of Rehoboth Beach and Allen Beebe of Connecticut.
A memorial service to celebrate Ralph’s life will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 16, at Parsell Funeral Home & Crematorium, 1449 Kings Hwy., Lewes,.

Mary Jane Davis, 90, of Ocean View, passed away Monday, Dec. 4, 2006 at the Harrison Senior Living Nursing Home in Georgetown.
Mrs. Davis was born Feb. 29, 1916, in Johnstown, Pa. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert L. Davis, whom she married in January 1942; three sisters, Anna, Judy, and Christine; six brothers, Frank, John, Tony, Joe, Ed, and Rudy.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Michael O’Neil of Ocean View; a son and daughter-in-law, Crede and Linda Davis of Rehoboth Beach; four grandchildren, Sean Corona of Ocean View, Ryan Davis and wife Catherine of South Riding, Va., Tara Davis and husband Steve Miller of Austin, Texas and Cory Davis of Takoma Park, Md.; four sisters, Betty Defiore of Lykens, Pa., Margaret Tiekul of Timberlake, Oh., Martha Leslie of Aptos, Calif. and Alicia Keane of Jackson, N.J.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial was offered Wednesday, Dec. 6, at 3 p.m. at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Bethany Beach.

Jackson R. Dunlap Jr.,

Jackson R. “Jay” Dunlap Jr., 75, of Milton, passed away peacefully on Friday, Dec. 1, 2006, surrounded by his loving family.
Jay was born in Lewes, son of the late Rev. J. Russell Sr. and Lillian Marsh Dunlap.
Jay had attended school in Lewes and graduated from Fork Union Military Academy, Fork Union, Va. He attended York College and received a bachelor’s degree in business from Temple University. Following graduation, he entered Naval flight training, earning his wings as a pilot at Pensacola, Fla. and serving in the Atlantic Theatre. He was proud of his military service and his accomplishments as a pilot. Following his naval career, he obtained his doctor of law degree from Temple Law School.
Jay was admitted to the Delaware Bar in 1961 and continued practicing law in Georgetown. During his career, he served in many capacities, including Deputy Attorney General, local and national Bar Associations, the Bar Censor Committee, the Association of Trial Lawyers of America and Tri-State Investigators.
He was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Rehoboth and had previously served on numerous committees and as an officer.
Jay was very civic minded and loved helping others. He was a member of the Milton Lions Club for 15 years and was presented the Ralph Helm Fellow Award for Humanitarian Service. His memberships also included the Rehoboth Beach Kiwanis Club, where he served as president in 1968; the American Legion Post 28 in Millsboro; and Jefferson 15 AF&AM in Lewes.
He was a member of the Rehoboth Beach Country Club, where he served on the Board of Governors.
For several years, in the late 1940s, he crewed for Don Marsh in Snipe class competitions. During those years, they won season Snipe class championships as well as overall Lewes Yacht Club competitions. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Christine Dunlap Farnham and Jean Dunlap.
He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Frances Reed Dunlap; two daughters, Joan Dunlap Giles and her husband Rusty of Avondale, Pa., Julie Dunlap Bradford and her husband Ken of Bishopville, Md. and their mother, Mary Hirt of Harrington; four grandchildren, Justin Giles, Emily Giles, Tyler Giles and Jackson Bradford; two stepsons, Ted Reed and Glenn Reed and his wife Colleen, all of Milton; and four stepgrandchildren, Gage Reed, Kaisey Reed, Joshua Reed and Dakota Reed.
A celebration of Jay’s life will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 9 in the Westminster Presbyterian Church, 301 King Charles Street, Rehoboth Beach, with burial private. Contributions are suggested to the Milton Development Corporation, 424 Mulberry Street, Milton 19968 or to Delaware Hospice, 20167 Office Circle, Georgetown DE 19947.

Charles T. Hudson,

Charles T. Hudson, 71, of Lewes, passed away Monday, Dec. 4, 2006, at Beebe Medical Center in Lewes.
Mr. Hudson was born in Lewes on February 16, 1935, son of the late Edward Thornton and Edith Simpler Hudson.
Mr. Hudson spent his entire life in Lewes.
He enjoyed horses, especially horse racing and harness racing. Fishing was another favorite pastime.
He owned and operated Lawn Services for many years.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, James “Ken” Hudson.
He is survived by two brothers, Bill Hudson and his wife Edna of Cool Spring, and Ed Hudson and his wife Freida of Lewes; a sister, Shirley Friend and her husband Colin of Milton; a sister-in-law, Cecelia Hudson of Rehoboth Beach; many nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 9, at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, Dec. 8. Interment will be at Bethel Methodist cemetery , Lewes.
