Helen D. Blancke,
former model
Helen D. “Dodie” Blancke, 90, of Henlopen Acres, passed away Sunday, Dec. 3, 2006 at her residence.
Mrs. Blancke was born March 15, 1916 in Plainfield, NJ., daughter of the late Charles and Bertha (Brick) Doeringer and the beloved wife of the late Rudolph Charles Blancke III.
During the 1930s, she was a model for Best & Company in New York. She and her late husband lived in Howard County, Md. from 1950 until their retirement to Rehoboth Beach in 1968.
While living in Maryland, Mrs. Blancke was a charter member of the Howard County Garden Club; Howard County Hunt Club and Saint John’s Episcopal Church of Ellicott City.
While living in Rehoboth Beach, she was a member of the Sussex Gardeners, an avid supporter of the Rehoboth Art League, a member of the Henlopen Acres Beach Club, Kings Creek Country Club and Rehoboth Beach Country Club. She enjoyed playing golf, was an avid bridge player, bird watcher and being out and enjoying nature, especially the ocean. Mrs. Blancke was an active member of All Saints’ Episcopal Church of Rehoboth Beach.
She was also active in several community charities.
She is survived by a son, Rudolph C. Blancke IV and his wife Karen of Rehoboth Beach; two daughters, Tao B. Lehman of Amelia Island, Fla.; and Jane W. Pitman and her husband Woodrow, Jr. of Baldwin, Md.; six grandchildren, Gretchen Cannon and her husband John of Glen Arm, Md.; Woodrow Pitman III of Baltimore, Md., Kimberly Holbrook and her husband Josh of Holly, Mich., Torri Lehman of Newport Beach, Calif., Kelley Blancke of Plymouth, Mich., Tasha Carver and her husband Drew of Denver, Colo.; and four great-grandchildren, Jack and Charles Cannon, Dylan and Logan Holbrook.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, Dec. 8, at All Saints’ Episcopal Church, 18 Olive Ave., Rehoboth Beach, with Father Max Wolf officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to: Rehoboth Art League, 12 Dodds Lane, Rehoboth Beach DE. 19971 or All Saints Episcopal Church, 18 Olive Ave., Rehoboth Beach, DE.

Clyde M. Tripple III,
retired foreman
Clyde M. Tripple III, 66, of Lancaster, Pa., died Saturday, Dec. 2, 2006.
Mr. Tripple retired as a supervisor/foreman from Veitch Printing Corp. after 42 years of service. He had also worked for the Pennsylvania Game commission for 15 years. He was the proprietor of CT Tackle of Millsboro. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, but most of all he enjoyed his family. He loved the Sussex County area.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde M. and Margaret Price Tripple Jr.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Sandra H. Tripple; his children, Richard L. Tripple and his wife Stacy of Lancaster, Pa., Robert L. Tripple and his wife Tersa of Lancaster, Pa., Donald L. Tripple and his wife Jenny of Lancaster, Pa. and Vicky L. Rhinner of Lancaster; and his grandchildren, Christy, Matthew, Ali, Tyler, Colby and Genevive.
Services and burial were private.

Shawn Moore,
Milton resident
Shawn Moore, 51, of Milton, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2006, at Beebe Medical Center in Lewes.
Mr. Moore was born February 26, 1955 in Lewes, son of the late Loren and Joyce (Wingate) Moore.
He is survived by his son, Shawn Moore II and his wife Nicole of Florida; a granddaughter, Angelina Moore of Florida; a brother, Kevin Moore and his wife Marion of Lewes; and his longtime companion, Ruth Caltigirone of Milton.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Dec. 13, at Epworth Methodist cemetery , Henlopen Avenue, Rehoboth Beach,; Ms. Paula Simpson will be officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Delaware Hospice, 20167 Office Circle, Georgetown, DE 19947.

Rebecca J. Donohue,

Rebecca J. Donohue, 74, a lifelong resident of Frankford, passed away Sunday Dec. 3, 2006 at the Deers Head Coastal Hospice in Salisbury, Md.
She was a devoted mother and grandmother and loved to cook. She was a member of Abundant Life Church in Georgetown and the Dagsboro Church of God.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Robert Donohue; a son, Glenn Donohue; a granddaughter, Chelsey R. White; and a great-granddaughter, Braniya B.B. Jones.
She is survived by two sons, Robert J. Donohue of Frankford and Sam H. Donohue of Dagsboro; three daughters, Pearl Donohue of Millsboro, Cathy Donohue of Whaleysville, Md. and Gloria White of Delmar, Md.; three brothers, Joe Lynch of Roxana, Vaughan Lynch of Roxana, and Dallas Lynch of Georgetown; a sister, Leone Taylor of Laurel; six grandsons, Glenn Donohue of Greenwood, Lonnie Donohue of Bridgeville, Dustin White of Gumboro, Charles Carpenter of Whaleysville, Md., Stuart Smith of Whaleysville, Md. and Michael White of Delmar, Md.; five granddaughters, Christina Wallace of Girdletree, Md., Carrie Jones of Gumboro, Heather Smith of Bishopville, Md., Erica Donohue of Millsboro and Chyna White of Delmar, Md; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Services will be private.

Jessie Lee Thomas,

Jessie Lee Thomas, 77, of Frankford, died Monday, Dec. 4, 2006.
Jessie was a retired poultry worker. He loved fishing, playing pool, people and was a stranger to no one. He also was a very good cook.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Glenn and Minnie Brown Griffin; and his wife, Rosie Bell Thomas, who died in 1993.
He is survived by his children, Clifton Bell and wife Ilene of St. Louis Mo., Lawyer Hicks and wife Sally of Frankford, Barry Thomas and wife Tawanda of Lincoln, Ronnie Thomas of Smyrna, Rufus Thomas of Laurel, Ulysses Thomas of Frankford, Raymond Thomas of Millsboro, Rosie Coleman and James of Millsboro, Dora Bell Isler and Larry of Frankford, Lorraine Burton and Brian of Millsboro, Beth Morris and husband Larry of Dagsboro, Sandra Mumford of Georgetown, Amanda Purnell and Timothy of Georgetown, and Rachel Bivens and Calvin of Roxana; sisters Annie Fulmore of Baltimore, Md., Maye Newsome of N.Y.; sister-in-law Mary Sue Belle of Selbyville; brothers-in-law Cleveland Belle and wife Mary Francis of Virginia, Calvin and Shirley Bell, of Baltimore, Md. and Robert Belle, of Baltimore; 34 grandchildren; and 31 great-grandchildren.
Services will be held Saturday, Dec. 9, at 1 p.m., at Trinity Holiness Church, Frankford, where friends may call from 11 a.m. Pastor Larry Morris will officiate. Burial will be in Zoar Golden Acres, Bishopville, Md.

Joseph W. Mauro,
Scott Paper retiree
Joseph W. Mauro, 76, of Millsboro and formerly of Aston Township, Pa., passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family Monday, Dec. 4, 2006 at the Beebe Medical Center in Lewes.
He was born in Chester, Pa., son of the late George and Rose Vail Mauro. He attended the Immaculate Heart of Mary School and Chester High School. Joseph retired from Scott Paper Co in Chester in 1992 after 38 years of service and moved to Delaware in 1992. He was a past Fire Chief of Leedom Estates in Ridley Township, Delaware County, Pa., a 3rd degree with the Knights of Columbus and a member of Mary Mother of Peace Catholic Church in Oak Orchard where he served as Eucharistic Minister.
He was a founding member of the Nassau Swim Club in Ridley Township, the past president of the Nautical Sounds Barbershop Quartet and enjoyed playing Santa Claus for many years throughout the various communities in which he lived in.
He was a former Mummer and loved to do the Mummer Strut and was a member of the Cape Henlopen Senior Center Chorus and master of ceremonies.
He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Marie Grieco Mauro; two daughters, Donna Rottenberk and her husband Daniel of Aston, Pa., and Joann Raport and her husband Lee of Aston; five grandchildren, Danielle Deady and husband Frank, Kevin Raport, Devon Bauman and husband Robert, Joelle Raport, and Leigh-Anne Raport.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Friday, Dec. 8, at 11 a.m. at Mary Mother of Peace Catholic Church in Oak Orchard. Friends may call Friday morning from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at the chapel of Melson Funeral Services on Long Neck Road.
Graveside service will be held Saturday, Dec. 9, at noon at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic cemetery in Linwood.
The family suggests memorial contributions in Joseph’s memory to the Beebe Medical Center, 424 Savannah Rd, Lewes, DE. 19958.

John Hargis Sturgis Jr.,
truck driver
John Hargis Sturgis Jr., 55, of Dagsboro, died Monday, Dec. 4, 2006.
John was born in Bishop, Md., and was a truck driver for Croppers. John enjoyed NASCAR, working on cars, gardening and Barbequing.
He was preceded in death by his father, John H. Sturgis Sr.
He is survived by his mother, Douglas Jarmon Sturgis; his companion, Evelyn Collick; his children, John D. Currie and wife Andrea L. of Lincoln, Sherrill Sturgis of Frankford, and Angel Oliver of Ocean City, Md.; a stepdaughter, Tomesha Collick of Dagsboro; a brother, Charles Sturgis of Millsboro; a nephew, Charles Freeman of Millsboro; and 11 grandchildren.
Services will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, Dec. 11, at Watson Funeral Home 211 Washington St. Millsboro, where friends may call at 10 a.m.
Evangelist Nancy Wescott will officiate.

Stephen R. Jones,

Stephen R. “Steve” Jones, 31, of Lewes, was called home by the Lord Thursday, Nov. 30, 2006.
Steve was born Dec. 14, 1974, in Newark, and moved to Lewes as a young child. He was the supervisor of public works for the town of Laurel and had served with the Lewes Fire Department.
Steve was a loving, devoted husband who enjoyed numerous hobbies, including horseback riding, waterskiing, fishing, hunting, and jet skiing.
Jones is survived by his wife, Katie of Lewes; his parents, Pat and Bob Jones of Lewes; brother, Chuck Jones of Lewes; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Charles and Marcia Melson of Lewes; brother and sister-in-law, Chuck and Jennifer Melson of Millsboro; and his nieces and nephews, Jessica, Elizabeth and Chad Melson, all of Millsboro.
Services will be held Wednesday, Dec. 6, at noon from the Long Neck chapel of Melson Funeral Services, on Long Neck Road in Millsboro.
The family suggests memorial contributions in Steve’s memory to the Delaware Humane Society of Sussex County, 22918 DuPont Blvd, Georgetown, DE. 19947.

Preston E. Donovan,
DelDOT foreman
Preston E. Donovan, 89, of Georgetown died Thursday, Nov. 30, 2006, in Bayhealth-Milford Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Donovan was born in Redden, son of the late Charles H. and Nancy Penuel Donovan.
He was a foreman for the Delaware Department of Transportation, Ellendale, before retiring in 1979. He was also the caretaker for McColley’s cemetery . He enjoyed farming and gardening.
Mr. Donovan was a member of McColley’s Church in Redden and volunteered at local churches and would help anyone who needed it.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Alice Burton Donovan; a daughter, Elizabeth White; a grandson, Robert D. White Jr.; and two sisters, Mildred Burton and Esther Mitchell.
He is survived by three sons, Charles A. Donovan and Joseph H. Donovan, both of Georgetown, and Albert E. Donovan of Lewes; two daughters, Dorothy A. Cannon of Millsboro and June E. Donovan of Georgetown; three sisters, Elsie Walton of Georgetown, Nora Forst of Milton and Florence Webb of Greenwood; six grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held in the chapel of Short Funeral Services, Georgetown. Burial was in Conley’s Chapel cemetery , Angola.

Ella Mae Walters,
Millsboro homemaker
Ella Mae Walters, 70, of Millsboro died Friday, Dec. 1, 2006, in her home, surrounded by her family.
Mrs. Walters was born Aug. 31, 1936, in Toddsville, Md., daughter of the late Grayson and Frances Bradford Pritchett.
She was a homemaker, and enjoyed crafts and reading.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Harold Pritchett; and a sister, Barbara Windsor.
She is survived by her loving husband of 49 years, Donald C. Walters; a daughter and a son-in-law, Cheryl L. and Paul Waibel of Wilmington; a son and a daughter-in-law, Donald C. Jr. and Cynthia Walters of Millsboro; a sister, Judith A. Morris of Millsboro; four grandchildren, Melissa A. Walters and Crystal L. Walters, both of Millsboro, and Lindsay M. Waibel and Rebecca A. Waibel, both of Wilmington.
Services will be noon, Tuesday, Dec. 5, in Pippin Funeral Home, 119 W. Camden-Wyoming Ave., Wyoming, where friends may call one hour earlier.
Burial will be in Henlopen Memorial Park, Milton.

Martin Royston Pettit,
retired bank auditor
Martin Royston Pettit, 71, of Millsboro, passed away peacefully in his home Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2006.
He was born in New Church, Va., son of the late Martin and Mildred Covington Pettit. He was an auditor for Farmers Bank, of the State of Delaware, retiring in 1982 and then for Omni Bank for 10 years. Martin served with the U.S. Army Security Agency from 1957-1960.
He was a member of Conley’s United Methodist Church near Angola; Gideon’s International; National Wildlife Federation; Nature Conservancy; and a life member of the Delaware Agriculture Museum.
He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Shirley Messick Pettit; a brother, Edward C. Pettit, of Georgetown; and sister, Elizabeth F. Hearn, also of Georgetown.
A funeral service will be held Tuesday, Dec. 5, at 1 p.m., at the chapel of Melson Funeral Services on Long Neck Road, in Millsboro, where friends may call after noon. Internment will be in Conley’s Chapel cemetery , near Angola.
The family suggests memorial contributions to Gideon’s International, 2900 Lebanon Rd, Nashville, TN 37214; or, Delaware Hospice/ Southern Division, 20167 Office Circle, Georgetown, DE. 19947.

Mary E. Nelson,
daycare operator
Mary E. Nelson, 80, of Millsboro, died Friday, Dec, 1.
Mrs. Nelson was the daughter of the late Isaac and Christine Harmon Miller. Mrs. Nelson was a member of Friendship Methodist Church Millsboro and sang in the church choir.
She loved to go out to dinner and do needlework. She retired from Townsends Inc. after 20 years of service and started her own day care service.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Nelson, who died in 1985.
She is survived by her children, James Finney and his wife Ethel of Millsboro, Joanne Thompson and her husband Dennis of Millsboro, Robert Mannings and his wife Yong of Viola, and Simon Mannings of Millsboro: her sisters, Jennie Hitchens and Blanche Miller of Millsboro; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Sarah Harmon of Lewes.
Services will be held at noon, Friday, Dec. 8, at Friendship Methodist Church, Millsboro. Interment will be in Harmony cemetery , Millsboro.

Stanley Eugene Klein

Stanley Eugene Klein, 51, of Georgetown, died Thursday, Dec. 30, 2006.
Mr. Klein was a retired security guard for Sussex County in the Administrative Building. Mr. Klein enjoyed reading the Bible, old westerns, fishing and was a hardworking man.
He is survived by his parents, Stanford B. and Evie M. Bragg Klein Sr.; his companion, Geraldine Foraker of Georgetown; his children, Susan Klein of Bridgeville and Jen Crockett of Seaford; his brothers and sisters, Stanford B. Klein Jr. and his wife Brenda L. of Millsboro, Molie Flores of Millsboro and Mary Gray and her husband Dale Jr. of Georgetown; and his grandson, Ross Crockett.
Services will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 6, at Watson Funeral Home, 211 Washington St. Millsboro, where friends may call 1 hour prior.
Burial will be in Millsboro cemetery , Millsboro.
