William Howard Weems,

William Howard Weems, 74, of Lewes, died Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2006, at home.
Mr. Weems was born in Baltimore, Md., son of the late William and Marjorie (Sova) Weems.
In addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by a brother, Gary Robert Weems.
He was a hair stylist and hair salon owner. He had formerly lived in Towson, Md., where he owned and operated Williams Coiffure’s on Joppa Road for more than 25 years, retiring in 2001.
He is survived by his wife, Jean (Corbin) Weems.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Dec. 5, at Bakers cemetery , Route 22, Aberdeen, Md., with Rev. Jeff Sarine officiating.

Charles H. Moore,
retired from GM
Charles H. Moore, 88, of Oak Orchard, passed away peacefully in his home on Thursday, Nov. 30, 2006, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Millsboro, son of the late Charlie and Mary (Johnson) Moore. Charles was an assembly line worker for General Motors at its Boxwood Plant, retiring in 1978.
He was a World War II veteran, serving in the South Pacific with the U.S. Army. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by six of his siblings.
He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Beatrice (Niblett) Moore; son, Charles H. Moore Jr., and his wife Susan of Millsboro; three brothers, Joseph, Irvin, and Raymond Moore, all of Millsboro; three sisters, Eliza White and Shirley Fritz, both of Millsboro, and Mary Boyce of Laurel.
Services were held from the Chapel of Melson Funeral Services on Long Neck Road in Millsboro, with interment in Millsboro cemetery.
H. Franklin Baker Jr.,
banking vice president
Mr. H. Franklin Baker Jr., 91, died Friday, Dec. 1, 2006.
He was born Nov. 8, 1915, and was the son of Harry F. and Susan W. Baker.
A native of Rockland, Mr. Baker also resided in Lewes, for more than 50 years. Mr. Baker began a banking career upon graduation from Goldey College.
In 1934 he joined the Industrial Trust Company which merged with Wilmington Trust Company in 1954, from which he retired in 1979 as a vice president.
Mr. Baker served on the boards of several organizations including the Delaware State Chamber of Commerce as member and treasurer, chairman of The Better Business Bureau of Delaware, The Delaware Community Foundation and the Lincoln Club of Delaware, as well as participated in the Delaware Bankers Association.
Mr. Baker was a lifetime member of the Lower Brandywine Presbyterian Church and served as a trustee and a member of the session.
For 35 years he was vice president and treasurer of the Lower Brandywine cemetery
Association, Inc. and oversaw its operation until his retirement, at which time he negotiated with the church to accept the cemetery as a gift of the stockholders of the corporation and assume its management.
He married Virginia Lee Culver who died in 1991 and is survived by his wife, Mary D. Baker; two sons, H. Franklin III, and his wife, Sharon and David C. and his wife, Susan; three stepchildren, Harry and John Conaway and Ginger Tronzo; five grandchildren; one step-granddaughter; and five great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Dec. 6, at Lower Brandywine Presbyterian Church, Centerville.
Burial will be private.

Carl John Abramowicz,
Beebe radiologist
Dr. Carl John Abramowicz, 57, passed away suddenly Wednes-day, Nov. 29, 2006. Carl was born May 23, 1949, in Cordoba, Argentina.
At the age of 10, he moved with his family to Canada, and two years later to Woodlyn, Pa. He attended St. James Catholic High School. In 1972, he received an electrical engineering degree from Drexel University. After graduation, he attended the Krakow Medical Academy in Poland from 1972 to 1978. It was there where he met met his wife, Halina. They were married in 1974 in Czechoslovakia.
Abramowicz completed his residency at Wilmington Medical Center in Wilmington. In 1983, he relocated to Lewes, where he worked at the Beebe Medical Center for the past 23 years as a well respected radiologist.
Carl was full of energy, an avid pilot who enjoyed sailing, skiing and hunting. He traveled the world and was always looking for adventure. He was deeply loved by his family and friends. So many people considered him their best friend. He will be truly missed by all.
Abramowicz is survived by his beloved wife, Halina; his daughters, Sabina and Christina; his mother, Jadwiga; his brothers, Fred and Robert and his wife, Rebecca; his mother-in-law, Wanda; and sisters-in-law Kristina and Wanda; uncles; cousins; nephew, and nieces. He was preceded in death by his brother Eddie, his sister Lillian and his father, Robert who has been missing since July 2005.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m., Sunday Dec. 3, at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, where friends may call after noon. Interment will be private.

Marguerite Rogers Hill,
devoted homemaker
Marguerite Rogers Hill, 89, of Lewes, died Monday, Nov, 27, 2006, as a result of injuries she sustained in an automobile accident.
Mrs. Hill was born in Georgetown the daughter of the late Edward and Bertie Ellingsworth Rogers. She was raised in Georgetown and was a graduate of Georgetown High School.
She was a homemaker and devoted wife and mother. During World War II, she worked at Fort Miles in Lewes as a telephone operator. After her marriage to the late Arthur Lee Hill Jr., to whom she was married for 55 years, she lived in Philadelphia; Lewes; Durham, N.C.; and Georgetown.
Whether innate or learned, she spoke her mind often and freely. She enjoyed “having a talking time” with whomever she encountered. All marveled at the possession of the faculties she still held. Her family and relatives remember fondly summer holidays at her home on Dewey Avenue in Lewes and her love of the beach. Her greatest legacy was her devotion to her son, Arthur Lee III, who suffered for 12 years before succumbing to his illness and to whom she ministered tenderly.
Besides her parents, husband and only child, Marguerite was predeceased by a sister, Doris; a brother, Henry and his wife Ruth; her sister-in-law, Elaine Rogers; and her companion, Edgar Polite.
She is survived by a brother, Edward “Snooky” Rogers of Georgetown; two grandchildren, A. Lee Hill IV of Cary, N.C., and Jeffrey R. Hill of Atlanta, Ga.; two great-grandchildren, Taylor Hill and Dunning Hill.
A funeral service will be at 11 a.m., Monday, Dec. 4, at Lewes Presbyterian Church, with interment following in the adjoining church cemetery.

John R. Clark Jr.,
World War II veteran
John R. Clark Jr., 81, of Henlopen Acres, passed away peacefully at his home Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2006. He was born June 11, 1925, in Washington, D.C., son of the late John R. Clark and Susan Dawson Giddings Clark. He was a fourth generation Washingtonian and grew up in Bethesda, Md., and later on the family farm in White Oak, Md.
White Oak Farm, the namesake of the exit on the Capital Beltway, was originally the home of Mr. Clark’s paternal great-grandfather James Clark, a Scottish immigrant. James Clark, a botanist, helped found the National Botanical Gardens and traveled the world collecting samples of flora for the gardens. When White Oak Farm was sold, the state of Maryland transplanted many of the tree species to parks.
After graduating from Montgomery Blair High School, he served as an infantryman in the 94th Division of the U.S. 3rd Army in the western theatre during World War II. His primary role was as a scout in France, Belgium, Holland and Germany from August 1944 until the end of the war in Europe. At the end of the war, he helped transport freed prisoners of war during the Allied occupation and was in Czechoslavakia when the Russians took over that country. Mr. Clark received two purple hearts and two good conduct medals during his military service. After the war, he attended George Washington University and graduated from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1950 with bachelor of science degrees in chemical engineering and business administration.
His career in the chemical and aerospace industries spanned almost 30 years, during which he graduated from the Advanced Management Program of Harvard Business School in 1968. He participated in many civic and professional associations and served as president of the D.C. Council and national vice president of the Navy League from 1978 to 1982.
He retired as vice president of Bell Aerospace in 1984. Shortly thereafter, he moved to the coast of Delaware and served on the board of managers of Henlopen Acres, overseeing the reconstruction of the water production and distribution system and the Town Hall.
He was an avid golfer, enjoying his membership at Burning Tree Club in Bethesda. He also enjoyed hunting, horseback riding, gardening, painting and woodworking.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Claudia Hutchison Clark of Henlopen Acres; his daughter, Cecelia Melesco and her husband, the Honorable David Melesco of Rocky Mount, Va; his son, John R. Clark III and his wife, Mary Boney Clark of Bethesda; and nine grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, William G. Clark and his wife, Elizabeth, of Rehoboth Beach.
A memorial service will begin at 3 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 2, at All Saints Episcopal Church, 18 Olive Ave., Rehoboth Beach. An additional memorial service will be at a later date in the Washington, D.C. area. Interment will be private at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Fairland, Md.

Reese B. Elliott Jr.,

Reese Barnes “Barney” Elliott Jr., 51, of Millsboro, died Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2006.
He was the son of the late Reese Barnes Elliott Sr. and Mary Burris Elliott.
Mr. Elliott was a retired heavy equipment operator with Bunting and Murray Construction. He enjoyed bottle collecting, carving ducks, football, NASCAR, working outside and flowers.
He is survived by two sons, Reese Barnes Elliott III and wife Stephanie, of Long Neck, and Travis Alan Elliott of Long Neck; his ex-wife, Michelle Gregg of Long Neck; two grandchildren, Brayden and Travis Jr.; a sister, Gail Wolfe of Long Neck; and a brother, Leonard Clark of Woodstown, N.J.
Services will be at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Dec. 5, at Watson Funeral Home 211 Washington St. Millsboro, where friends may call an hour earlier.
The Rev. Rob Townsend will officiate. Burial will be in Henlopen Memorial Park, Milton.
Patrick C. Dolan,
retired conductor
Patrick C. “Sean” Dolan, 63, of Rehoboth Beach, died Saturday, Nov. 25, 2006, at his residence.
Mr. Dolan was born in Dromahair, County Leitrim, Ireland Dec. 17, 1942. He had formerly lived in Mountaindale, N. Y. He worked as a conductor for the Metro North Commuter Railroad in New York City for 22 years. Mr. Dolan lived in Sussex County with his wife Terry for about five years. He was a member of Epworth United Methodist Church, Rehoboth Beach. He was an avid Yankees and Giants fan, and a devoted friend of Bill and Lois Wilson.
Mr. Dolan is survived by his wife of 36 years Theresa Bonovolonta Dolan; two sons, Bobby Dolan of Brooklyn, N.Y. and Keegan T. Dolan of Newark; four sisters, Nora, Anne, Bridget and Bernie; five brothers, John, Matt, Gerry, Neil, J. Kevin; many nieces and nephews; and many loving friends. He was predeceased by sister Kathleen and brother Eddie.
Memorial services were held at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, Lewes, with the Rev. Jack Abel officiating. Interment was private.
Elizabeth C. Candler,

Elizabeth C. Candler, 84, of Rehoboth Beach died Friday, Nov. 24, 2006, in Beebe Medical Center, Lewes.
Mrs. Candler was born Oct. 16, 1922, in New York City, daughter of the late Harry and Madeline Lemneos.
She was a homemaker. She loved to read and do puzzles. Mrs. Candler was an active member of the Laurel Senior Center.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William E. Candler, in 1985; and a brother, George Lemneos.
She is survived by a son, Edward H. Candler of Anchorage, Aka..; a daughter and a son-in-law, Veronica and James Burke of Milford; a brother, Harold Lemneos of Wilmington; a sister, Katherine Lemneos of Newark; a grandson and a granddaughter-in-law, Mark and Nancy Dayton of Catonsville, Md.; and a granddaughter, Kelly M. Dukes of Greensboro, N.C.

Beverly Everett,

Beverly “Grammy” Everett, 73, of Middletown died, following a month-long battle with complications related to a lifelong fight with lupus, Monday, Nov. 20, 2006, in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover.
Mrs. Everett was born July 31, 1933, in Lockport, N.Y., first of two daughters of the late Delvina and John F. Herbert.
She graduated from Lockport Senior High School, and attended the University of Delaware prior to marrying. She raised a family of three daughters and provided “tender loving care” to many others, while working several part-time jobs and running a home sewing business and enjoying many types of crafts.
Mrs. Everett was known as “Grammy” to many because of her abundance of love and unconditional acceptance of many who came to know and love her. She loved animals, gardening, reading, sewing, crafts, painting and telling family stories, and had a strong faith in God. Her heart and hands are still, but her legacy lives on, and she will be missed dearly by those whose lives she touched. She lived a joyous life, and requested that at her passing, family and friends would celebrate her life.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas H. Everett, whom she married June 7, 1952.
She is survived by three daughters and two sons-in-law, Mary Lynn and David Linscott of Middletown, Sherry and Larry Daisey of Lewes and Cynthia Vollmer of Panama City, Fla.; six grandchildren, Stephanie Moody and her husband, Chris, Jillian Wilson and her husband, Chris, Gabrielle Kilgore, Erienne Kilgore, Tiffany Vollmer and Tommy Vollmer; and two great-granddaughters, Emily Moody and Rileigh Wilson; a younger sister, Mary Lowe Ames, and her family, of Lockport; a cousin, Viola Kerr of Lockport; longtime friends and cohorts, Marie Davis, Louise Berry and Barbara Martin and her children, Eddie and Sandy; and her beloved cat, Callie.
Memorial services will be 7 p.m., Monday, Dec. 18, in the Presbyterian Church of Dover.

Diana Lasseth Owens,

Diana Lasseth Owens, 59, of Rehoboth Beach passed away peacefully Sunday, Nov. 26, 2006, in Beebe Medical Center, Lewes.
Mrs. Owens was born Oct. 8, 1947, in Baltimore, daughter of the late Dominick J. and Mildred Weaver Lasseth.
She was employed as a pharmacy tech in Baltimore prior to her move to Delaware in 1998.
Mrs. Owens lived her life as a Christian and a loving and caring mother and wife. She enjoyed making crafts of all kind.
Mrs. Owens was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary, Rehoboth Beach, and the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, Lewes.
She is survived by her husband of 39 years, Oliver “Pete” Owens; a son and a daughter-in-law, Dominic and Julie Owens of Baltimore; a daughter, Kimberly Owens Nauman of Millsboro; two grandchildren, Collin Nauman and Diana Nauman, both of Millsboro; a brother Robert Lasseth of Baltimore; two sisters, Marilyn Busch and Carolyn Colonna, both of Baltimore; and many cousins.
Services were held in Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes. Burial followed in St. Peters cemetery , Pilottown Road, Lewes.

Gladys M. Brooks,

Gladys M. Brooks, 81, of New Castle, died Sunday, Nov. 26, 2006, at her home.
Mrs. Brooks was born in Pocahontas, Va. on June 29, 1925, a daughter of the late Percy Adkins and Lizzie Wright Adkins. A talented homemaker throughout her life, she enjoyed crocheting, browsing yard sales, and traveling. Mrs. Brooks was also a great fan of Elvis Presley. Most of all, she delighted in spending time with her family, especially her beloved grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Leonard R. Brooks; their four sons, Leonard R. Brooks, Jr. of New Castle, Russell G. Brooks and wife, Donna, of Lewes, Edward T. Brooks of Bear, and Ronald D. Brooks and wife, Loretta, of New Castle; her four sisters, Myrtle Miller of Pocahontas, Loney Hopkins of Newark, Molly Smith of Middletown, and Mildred Flowers of New Castle; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Pauline Johnson; and three brothers, Roy, Dalton and Curtis Adkins.
A funeral service as held at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, New Castle. Interment followed in Delaware Veterans Memorial cemetery , Bear.

Samuel James Leggins,
great football player
Samuel James ‘Sam’ Leggins, 44, began his eternal life Thursday, Nov. 23, 2006, at Beebe Medical Center, Lewes, with his family by his side.
Sam began his earthly life March 22, 1962, in Mobile, Ala, to Mary Lee Snell and Joe Martin. He received his education in the Cape Henlopen School District and was a great football player, wearing the No. 22 proudly. He was also a fanatic about any sport just to get an argument of opinions started.
Sam was a member of Bethel AME Church in Milton and St. John 2nd Baptist Church in Millsboro. He also played softball for Bethal AME and sang in the Men’s Choir.
Sam was known for making people laugh and uplifting their spirits and don’t forget those strawberry cakes he made for everyone. After high school graduation in 1981, he was employed at Draper King Cole I Milton until the plant closed. He was employed at Allen’s Family Foods in Harbeson, Townsend-Mountaire plants in both Selbyville and Millsboro and also worked part time at the Rose & Criown in Lewes, Sam was a hard worker regardless of his illness to make sure that his children were taken care of and had everything they needed.
His faith enabled him to stand strong in the battle and his dreaded illness.
Everyone could see that Sam was no slacker and never complained about his illness. He was a fun-loving and cheerful person who touched the lives to so many,
As Sam went through his trials and tribulations, he had an uncle, Robert, whom he looked to as his brother and who made sure Sam had the best of everything. Robert was his caretaker.
Whatever Sam was in need of – doctor appointments, hospital stays, medical personal business or making sure his children were provided for – he could always count on Robert.
He was preceded in death by a niece, Felicia Parsons.
He leaves to cherish is memory one son, Vincent Leggins of Milford; one daughter, Ariel Price of Elendale; his mother, Mary Lee Snell of Whistler, Ala.; his father, Joe Martin of Mobile, Ala; a special friend, Marie Johnson of Felton; his extended family, James and the Rev. Annie Custis of Lewes; three sisters, Esther Elaine Parsons of Mobile, Cealon Leggins-Moore of Brooklyn, N.Y. and Sandria Evans of Saraland, Ala.; four brothers, Paul Leggins and John Snell Jr. of Mobile, Frank Snell of Prichard, Ala and Sgt. Joseph Douglas Snell of Killeen, Texas; six aunts, Pauline Murray and Aileen Leggins of Milton, Annie Ruth Lane of Charlotte, N.,C. Mary Ann Davis of Lincoln, Lelia Badger and Martha Hinton, both of Greenwood; a great-aunt, Hattie Bea Griffin of Vallejo, Califl four uncles, David Leggins and Robert Leggins of Milton, Freddie Leggins of Dover and Amos Leggins of Brooklyn; his extended Custis family, Debbie, Anna, Jimmy and Evan; nine nieces and nephews and a host of cousins and friends.
