Paul G. Hunter,
retired teacher
Paul G. Hunter, 80, of Bethany Beach and formerly of Bethesda, Md., passed away Thursday, March 1, 2007 at Beebe Medical Center in Lewes.
Mr. Hunter was born in Washington, D.C., son of the late Paul and Ann (Lee) Hunter.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy.
Paul was a teacher at the Blessed Sacrament School, Archbishop Carroll High School and Gonzaga High School. He was an avid sports fan and during his teaching career he coached high school football, baseball, and basketball. He was a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Bethany Beach, American Legion Post 5 of Rehoboth Beach, and VFW Mason Dixon Post 7234 of Ocean View. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.
He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Joan (Holmes) Hunter; his children, Glenn Hunter and his wife Joyce, Thomas Hunter and his wife Lisa, Kathleen H. Kieffer and her husband Steve; seven grandchildren, Brian, Patricia, Timothy, Andrew, Marykate, Coley, and Maggie.
A memorial Mass was held at St. Ann’s Catholic Church, Garfield Parkway, Bethany Beach, with interment in Delaware Veterans Memorial cemetery , South in Millsboro.
The family suggests memorial contributions in Paul’s name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

Sarah J. Salin,
civic volunteer
Sarah J. Salin, 82, a five-year resident of Greenspring Village retirement community in Springfield, Va., died there Feb. 26, 2007, three days before her 61st wedding anniversary, of a malignant pancreatic tumor.
Mrs. Salin was born in Everett, Wash., and after her marriage in 1946 resided in Chevy Chase, Md., and Oxon Hill, Md., before moving to Rehoboth Beach in 1984. Noted for her excellence in needlework, she had also served as a volunteer clerical worker at the National Institutes of Health, Andrews Air Force Base library and the City of Alexandria, Va. She was a member of the Rehoboth Beach Historical Society and a 50-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
She is survived by her husband, Robert Salin of the home address; her children, Sigrid J. Beeckman of Springfield, Va., Robert “Robin” K. Salin of Southlake, Texas, Philip A. Salin of Washington, D.C. and Lisa L. Len of Bangkok, Thailand; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. At her request there will be no funeral or memorial service, but a family gathering will be held at a later date in Rehoboth Beach where her ashes will be scattered in the surf. Amy Griffith Jack Crook,

Amy Griffith Jack Crook, 61, of Lewes, died Monday, Feb. 26, 2007, in the Union Hospital Of Cecil County, Md.
Born in Elkton, Md., Sept. 26, 1945, she was the daughter of William G. and Lora (Greene) Jack, of Newark. She was a registered nurse employed by Cambridge Nursing Home and Beebe Medical Center in Lewes. Amy was a competent, caring nurse. She was a fine cook, loved her dogs and her gold Mustang, and she enjoyed the beach.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by two sisters - Alice Bennett and her husband, Jay, of Warwick, Md., and Margaret Wilhelm and her husband, Gary, of Indiana; two brothers - Harvey R. Jack and his wife, Lisa, of North East, Md., and William G. Jack and his wife, Betsy, of Harleysville, Pa.; and many nieces and nephews. She will also be greatly missed by her companion, Jack Lynch; her dog, Jerry; her goddaughter, Dana Rader; and by Catherine Tanzer, her lifelong friend.
Services and interment will be private.
Raymond G. Williams,
retired cement finisher
Raymond J. Williams, 91, of Georgetown departed this life Sunday, Feb. 25, 2007, in the Harrison House, Georgetown, after a short illness, with his loving family by his side.
Raymond was born April 20, 1915, in Selbyville, to the late Elwood and Betty (Holliman) Williams.
On Dec. 18, 1935, he was united in holy matrimony with Beatrice Jones. To this union were born six children. He was a dedicated husband and father.
Raymond was educated in the public school system. He retired after many years as a cement finisher.
Raymond was a longtime member of the St. John F.B.H. Church of God of the Americas in Milford, where he served faithfully as a trustee and Sunday school superintendent under the leadership of the late Elder Nathaniel Fulton.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Beatrice Williams; one son, Donald Williams; three daughters, Evangelist Deloyce Mann, Felicia Williams and Patricia Bratten; four brothers; three sisters; and two great-granddaughters.
He is survived by a devoted daughter, Ardeth Edwards and her husband the Rev. George Edwards Sr. of Milton; a devoted son, Gilbert Williams and his companion Gertrude of Concord; a devoted brother, the Rev. Ervin Williams and his wife Alice of Georgetown; two sisters, Mary Williams of Georgetown and Mable Hamilton of Baltimore; one special granddaughter that he raised, Renee Blake of West Palm Beach, Fla.; 24 grandchildren; seven adopted grandchildren; one great-granddaughter he raised, Andrea Williams of Concord; 12 great-great-grandchildren; four special friends, Elder Andrew Spellman, Elder Woodrow Hicks, Sister May Wormack and family and Ms. Marlin Parker; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Viewing will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 2, in Friendship Baptist Church, Lewes.
Services will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, March 3, in Friendship Baptist Church, where friends may view one hour prior.
Burial will be in Mount Zion Church cemetery , Georgetown.

Barbara Elizabeth Krogman,
New Jersey native
Barbara Elizabeth Krogman, 72, of Middletown, formerly of Camden, N.J., passed away peacefully at her daughter’s residence in Middletown Saturday, Feb. 24, 2007.
Born Jan. 24, 1935, in Camden, N.J., she was the daughter of the late Antone and Barbara (Rasback) Tillman.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Krogman; and a son, John Barnett.
She is survived by two daughters, Linda Rieker of Middletown and Theresa A. Barnett of Collins Wood, N.J.; three sisters, Anna Wear and Delores Jimeniz, both of Audubon, N.J., and Lorretta Vachione of Philadelphia; three brothers, George Tillman of Philadelphia, Antone Tillman of Manuta, N.J., and Thomas Tillman of Lewes; 12 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, March 3, in Daniels & Hutchison Funeral Home, 212 N. Broad St., Middletown, where family and friends may call one hour prior.
Interment will be private.
Mildred Catherine Baker,
retired tax worker
Mildred Catherine Baker, 86, of Lewes and Arnold, Md., passed away Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2007, in Annapolis, Md.
Mrs. Baker was born Nov. 15, 1920, in Baltimore.
She retired from the state of Maryland, where she worked in the state income tax division.
Mrs. Baker enjoyed reading, the beach, and shopping. Her family meant everything to her.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard D. Baker; and a son, William F. Evans.
She is survived by two sons, Robert Baker and Richard D. Baker Jr. of Mardela Springs, Md.; two daughters, Peggy Murchake of Annapolis and Joan Brown of Lewes; a brother, Joseph Nelson; a sister, Gertrude Grymes; nine grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m., Friday, March 2, in St. Andrew by the Bay Catholic Church, 701 College Parkway, Annapolis.
Oscar R. Carroll,
stock car racing fan
Oscar R. Carroll, 77, of Lincoln, died Sunday, Feb. 25, 2007, in his home.
He worked at Henlopen Memorial Park, Milton and retired in 1975.
Mr. Carroll enjoyed watching television, stock car racing, wrestling and fishing.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Mary (Legates) Carroll.
He is survived by his brother, Lester Carroll of Milton; a stepdaughter, Barbara Finney of Georgetown; a close friend, Gladys Wade of Lincoln; and many nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were held in Henlopen Memorial Park, Milton.

Lester R. Kirk,
Pennsylvania native
Lester R. Kirk, 93, of Lewes, died on Friday, Feb. 16, 2007, at Beebe Hospital.
He was born Feb. 23, 1913 in Lansdowne, Pa., the son of the late W. Leroy and Mary J. (Boyd) Kirk.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Willard and Herman. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, the former Mary Havrilak; and his children, Ross and his wife Darlene, of Los Angeles, Calif., Jane and her husband Thomas Page, of Chattanooga, Tenn., Suzanne Kirk and Denis Nicolayson, of Franklin Lakes, N.J.; and two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Friends were received at the Jean H. Kinley Funeral Home, Beaverdale, Pa. Funeral liturgy was celebrated at St. Mary’s Byzantine Catholic Church, Beaverdale. Committal was held in SS Peter and Paul Byzantine cemetery , Dunlo, Pa.

George T. Edwards,
native of Reedville
George Thomas Edwards, 81, of Reedville, Va., died Monday, Feb. 12, 2007, at his home, Mulberry Fields, on Fleets Point.
Mr. Edwards was born Aug. 8, 1925, to John L. and Hilda Insley Edwards of Reedville.
He trained as a B-25 pilot during World War II.
After the war, Mr. Edwards resided in Lewes and was associated with the menhaden fishing industry.
He married Louise Dickerson of Lewes, and for several years in the 1950s, operated the Gulf service station adjacent to the fire hall on Savannah Road.
Late in the decade, the Edwards family, now including their two sons born at Beebe Hospital, Tommy and Frank, relocated to Reedville where George resumed association with the menhaden industry.
Mr. Edwards was a member of American Legion Post 117 and Reedville Masonic Lodge 321.
He was preceded in death by Louise Edwards in 1974.
He is survived by his wife, Anne Lewis Edwards; his sons, George T. Edwards Jr. and his wife Karen of Springfield, Va. and Frank Dickerson Edwards and his wife Anne of Harkers Island, N.C.; and three grandchildren. He is also survived by two stepchildren, Deborah Corsa Whittaker and her husband Louis and Gregory Boyd Corsa and his wife Kathryn, and three step-grandchildren, all of Reedville; and three brothers, Robert, Straughan and Thomas Edwards.
A Masonic rites graveside service was held Feb. 17 at Roseland cemetery
in Reedville.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested contributions to a charity of choice.
Dr. Donald E. Mitchell,
retired dermatologist
Dr. Donald E. Mitchell, 76, a longtime resident of Georgetown, Washington, D.C. and Lewes, died peacefully Saturday, Feb. 24, 2007, at his Lewes home.
Dr. Mitchell was born in North Carolina and attended undergraduate and advanced medical studies at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He came to Washington in 1956 and was shortly thereafter commissioned into the U.S. Army Medical Corps and served an internship in dermatology at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. Following that internship, Dr. Mitchell served on active duty in Korea and following that service, he retired on medical disability.
Dr. Mitchell practiced dermatology in the Washington, D.C. area for many years in association with Group Health of Washington, D.C.
He later served as medical director of a medical group providing physician services for Humana, and retired from that position. He was an avid gardener who took great pride in creating unusual and beautiful European-inspired gardens at his homes in Lewes and Georgetown.
He is survived by a longtime friend and companion, Carl Seldomridge.
Dr. Mitchell will be interred at Oak Hill cemetery , Georgetown, D.C., with private services. A memorial gathering to celebrate and honor his life will be announced at a later date.
Gwendolyn B. Hauck,
retired teacher
Gwendolyn B. Hauck, 66, of Milford, died Monday, Feb. 26, 2007, in Bayhealth-Milford Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Hauck was born Nov. 24, 1940, in Searcy, Ark., daughter of the late Gilbert H. and Jewell E. (Lacewell) Breeden.
She was employed as a high school English teacher in Carlisle, Pa., for 26 years, retiring in 1997.
Mrs. Hauck enjoyed snow skiing and was a member of the 60 Plus Ski Club. She also loved camping, cooking and quilting and her volunteer work at the Prime Hook Wildlife Refuge, Milton.
She was a member of MENSA, the Pennsylvania State Education Association, the Shawnee Country Club - where she was vice president of the 18th Hole Club - and a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Milford and the Women’s Association there.
She is survived by her husband of 23 years, John D. Hauck; a son and daughter-in-law, Jeffrey and Andrea Hauck of Chadds Ford, Pa.; a daughter and son-in-law, Jodi and Thomas Munro of Millsboro; a brother, Gaylen Breeden of Charlestown, Ind.; and five grandchildren, Tommy Munro, Tara Munro, Janice Hauck, Kelly Hauck and Jeffrey Hauck.
A memorial service was held in First Presbyterian Church, Milford, with burial private.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the Pennsylvania Breast Cancer Coalition, 287 Duke St., Ephrata, PA 17522; or to Delaware Hospice, 911 S. DuPont Highway, Dover, DE 19901.
