Emily A. Rowland,

Emily A. Rowland, 95, of Lewes, passed away Saturday, March 31, 2007, at Beebe Medical Center in Lewes.
She was born October 9, 1911, in Dagsboro, daughter of the late Benjamin Truitt Adkins and Amelia Collins Adkins.
Mrs. Rowland was a lifelong resident of Sussex County and the youngest in a family of eight children. She was also the oldest living member of Lewes Presbyterian Church.
She was a member of the Sussex County Heart Association often serving on the Heart Association Ball Committee. Mrs. Rowland was a charter member of the Rehoboth Beach Country Club and played with the ladies’ golf team.
She was active in the Sussex County Republican Club and enjoyed playing bridge, cooking and entertaining.
She loved tailgating at University of Delaware football games and wintering in Barbados and Vero Beach, Fla. During World War II she volunteered with the Red Cross, and when the Civilian Conservation Corps Camp was in Lewes, she worked with the Gray Ladies.
She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Capt. James Wright Rowland in 2001 and her seven siblings. She is survived by two daughters, Jay and her husband John D. Hukill of Pinewater Farm and Margaret Webb of Lewes; five grandchildren, Charlotte H. Passwaters and her husband Colter, Sarah H. Berninger and her husband Michael, James Rowland Hukill and his wife Sabrina, Amy W. West and her husband Joe, and Abby R. Webb and her finance Andrew Hooven; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; numerous nieces and nephews and their families; and one sister-in-law, Thelma J. Rowland and her family.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, April 3, at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Hwy., Lewes. The Rev. Harry Hughes will be officiating.
Friends may call at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. A graveside service will follow at All Saints’ cemetery , Beaver Dam Road, near Angola.

Anna Marie McCafferty,
retired bookkeeper
Anna Marie Cresmer McCafferty, 87, of Seaford, passed away Friday, March 30, 2007, at Genesis Healthcare Center in Seaford. Mrs. McCafferty was born August 15, 1919, in West Chester, Pa., daughter of the late James and Anna Marie Grief Cresmer.
Mrs. McCafferty had a long career as a corporate bookkeeper. In retirement, she was very active with the Community Action Center in Georgetown. During the Big Band era, she played the organ and the vibraphones, often performing in Philadelphia and Atlantic City.
She is survived by three daughters, Barbara Roe, Kim Dewey and her husband Kevin, all of Seaford, and Lisa Jefferson and her husband George of Greenwood; a son, William McCafferty IV of Seaford; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two brothers, James Cresmer and Norman Cresmer, both of Rehoboth Beach.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, April 3, at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Hardesty Chapel, 202 Laws St., Bridgeville, where friends may call one hour prior to the service. Interment will be private.
William J. Witkowski Sr.,
steel plant supervisor
William J. Witkowski Sr., 95, of North Wilmington, passed away Thursday, March 29, 2007.
Born in Pittsburgh, Pa., he was the son of the late Walter P. and Rose Brztowski Witkowski. William retired from Phoenix Steel in Claymont as a night supervisor.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary A. Witkowski in 1997; brothers, Anthony, Francis, John and Thomas; and sisters, Ethel Feret, Sophie Sczubelek and Josephine Weaver. He is survived by his son, William J. Witkowski Jr. of Wilmington; sisters, Helen Bazydlo and Jeannette Steen, both of Wilmington, and Eleanore Walker of Seminole, Fla.; brothers, Stanley Witkowski Sr., Joseph “Rusty” Witkowski and Felix Witkowski and his wife Barbara, all of Wilmington; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; nieces, Nancy Bazela and her husband William of Claymont, Shirley Henderson and her husband John of Wilmington and Etha Mae Hanby and her husband Vernon of Newport; and brother-in-law, William Casperson and his wife Etha Mae of Lewes.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:15 a.m., Tuesday, April 3, at St. Matthew’s R.C. Church, 901 E. Newport Pike, Woodcrest, Wilmington. Visitation will be 9:30-10:15 a.m., Tuesday, at the church. Burial will be in Cathedral cemetery , Wilmington.

Dean L. O’Hollaren,
DuPont sales manager
Dean L. O’Hollaren, 91, of Hockessin, passed away peacefully Wednesday, March 28, 2007, at Regal Heights.
Born in Winner, S.D., Mr. O’Hollaren was the son of the late Frank and Amy Simmonds O’Hollaren. He served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. He worked as a sales manager for the DuPont Company, retiring in 1977 after 37 years of employment. An avid golfer, he was a member of the DuPont Country Club.
A devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, he will be dearly missed by his wife of 67 years, Josephine Costo O’Hollaren; his sons and daughters-in-law, Dean L. ‘Terry’ and Patricia O’Hollaren of Annapolis, Md., and John R. ‘Jack’ and Lana O’Hollaren of Rehoboth Beach; his grandchildren, Kristin, Erin, Ryan and Conor; and his great-grandson, Aidan.
Funeral services will be private.

Paula L. Brown,
former nanny
Paula L. Brown, 43, of Rehoboth Beach, passed away at her residence Thursday, March 29, 2007.
She was born October 9, 1963, in Wilmington, daughter of the late Jerome J. King and Judith King Norton of Rehoboth Beach. Ms. Brown had been employed as a quality control technician with the Homalite Corp. for fourteen years. She also worked as a nanny for ten years for the five Bardwell children. Her hobbies included shopping and attending carnivals. She was loved by all who knew her.
In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her brother, David J. Brown. In addition to her mother, she is survived by her sister, Cheryl McPherson and her husband George of Wilmington; her brother, Paul J. Brown and his wife Tracy of Lincoln; nine nieces and nephews; her stepfather, James Norton of Rehoboth Beach; her aunts, Ellen Laskowski of Wilmington and Patricia Davis of Smyrna; her uncle, Thomas Gerres of Albuquerque, N.M.; and her beloved dog, Chichi.
All services are private.

Ernest T. Fitzgerald,
farmer, truck driver
Ernest T. Fitzgerald, a lifetime resident of Lincoln, passed away Thursday, March 29, 2007, in his home, surrounded by his loving family, after a long illness.
Ernest was the only child of Willis and Sallie Coverdale Fitzgerald.
He was employed by Clifford Donovan until Mr. Donovan’s death, and then worked for many years as a driver for Peninsula Oil. He retired from full-time work in 1992, but stayed on at Peninsula Oil for many years part time. He was also a self-employed farmer.
When he was able, Ernest and his wife attended Milford Church of the Nazarene.
He was drafted into the U.S. Army and served his country in Japan.
Ernest was an avid hunter and owned several beagles that won trophies and ribbons at trials. He was a past member of the Greenbrier Hunting Lodge and Laurel Beagle Club. He was also a life member of the Ellendale Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9244 and the AARP.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Ruth Ann Messick Fitzgerald; three children, Berta Goodwin and her husband Jim of Georgetown, Greg Fitzgerald of Felton and Russ Howard of Slaughter Beach; five grandchildren; a great-grandson; a half-brother, Kenneth Fitzgerald of Lincoln; two half-sisters, Mary Speakman and Margaret Helsdon, both of Lincoln; and three sisters-in-law, Mary Jane Mariner and Ethel White and her husband Jim, all of Milford, and Rose Warren and her husband Charles “Butch” of Lincoln.
Services were held. Burial was in Lincoln cemetery.

Robyn Mershon Cisco,

Robyn Mershon Cisco, 50, of Lewes died suddenly Thursday, March 29, 2007, at her residence. She was 50.
She was born Nov. 2, 1956, in Philadelphia, daughter of the late Don Mershon and Vest “Tiki” Mershon of Bethlehem, Pa.
Robyn was employed by Delaware Guidance Services in Lewes and Catholic Charities in Dover.
She was instrumental in the success of her family business, Cisco’s Tree Service.
Robyn’s tireless generosity of her time and support of friends and family in need was her greatest achievement.
She was a devoted wife, mother, sister, daughter and friend.
She was accomplished at cooking, art, gardening, dancing and performing music as a drummer with her family and friends.
Robyn was very passionate about reading and music.
She was active in the community, especially with her daughter Kylie’s high school soccer and community programs.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by her loving husband, Timothy M. Cisco; her daughter, Kylie Cisco; and her son, Zakry Cisco, all of Lewes; two brothers, John Mershon of Malvern, Pa. and Jay Mershon of Gilbertsville, Pa.; and her best friend and her children’s godmother, Mary Ann Lerro of Philadelphia.
A memorial service will be held at noon, Wednesday, April 4, at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Hwy., Lewes, where friends may call one hour prior to the service.
Interment will be private.
Anna DiMattia Matz,

Anna DiMattia Matz, of Millsboro, died Friday, March 30, 2007.
Anna was born in Abruzzi Province, Italy. Before moving to Delaware she worked for the Clairton, Pa., magistrates office. She retired from M & T Bank in Millsboro. Anna enjoyed shopping, painting ceramics and her family. She attended Long Neck United Methodist Church in Long Neck.
She was predeceased by her father, Emilio DiMattia; her husband, John Franklin Matz in 1995; and a sister, Pina Scarseua.
She is survived by her mother, Ada Ginestra DiMattia; a daughter, Shannon Marie Matz of Millsboro; three stepsons, John E. Matz of Latrobe, Pa., Gary F. Matz of Rosslyn Farms, Pa., and Douglas F. Matz of Philadelphia, Pa.; two sisters, Dea Bonaccita and Ida Ward, both of Clairton; and one brother, Dominic DiMattia.
Services were held in Millsboro. Out-of-town services will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, April 5, at S. M. Finney Funeral Home, 432 North Sixth & Walnut streets, Clairton.
Interment will be in Round Hill cemetery , Elizabeth Township, Pa.

Adele Mumford,

Adele Mumford, 70, of Frankford, died Wednesday, March 28, 2007, at Beebe Medical Center, Lewes, peacefully surrounded by her loved ones.
She was born July 23, 1936, in Americus, Ga., the daughter of the late Anna Clara Chandler and Samuel Chandler.
Adele was affectionately known as Mommy, Na Na, Gramps, X, Big Red, Dale and Puffy Jaws. She received her education in Selbyville. She attended Apostolic Church of Jesus Christ and the House of Prayer, both in Selbyville.
She worked numerous years as a housekeeper and housewife. Her hobbies and pleasurable pastimes included shopping, yard sales, cooking and decorating.
She would welcome you into her home no matter who you were. She would feed you and take you in as if you were her own.
Adele was preceded in death by her mother, Anna Clara Chandler; her stepfather, Samuel Chandler; her son, Terry Mumford; two brothers, Henry C. Lillard and James Keith; and one son-in-law, Kenton Williams.
She leaves her loved ones to cherish many beautiful and loving memories. She is survived by five sons, Jerry Mumford of Selbyville, Roland Mumford Jr. of Frankford, Earlest Mumford of Lincoln, Walter Mumford of Laurel, and William Handy and wife Tory of Millsboro; six daughters, Mary Hallet of Salisbury, Md., Deborah Morris and husband Harry of Millsboro, Stephanie Mumford of Long Neck, and Janice Williams, Barbara Mumford, Samantha Smith and husband Donnie, all of Frankford, Delaware. She also leaves six brothers, Ulysses Lillard of Selbyville, Charles Lillard and wife Diane of Frankford, Edward Keith of Jacksonville, Fla., Samuel Chandler Jr. of Long Neck, Cleveland Chandler and wife Juanita of Bridgeville, and Michael Chandler and wife Annie of Frankford; three sisters, Mary Alice and husband Bishop James Johnson of Selbyville, Patricia Sykes of Dover, and Sandra Sturgis and husband Pearlis of Havelock, N.C.; one uncle, Louis Thomas of Iowa; one aunt, Francis Dismuke of Salisbury; one special friend, Herman Jernigan of Millsboro; two lifelong friends whom she cherished and loved as her sisters, Gladys Mason of Selbyville and Shirley Taylor of Berlin, Md., 30 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; 19 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of special nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Marie E. Cirwithian,
lifelong Milton resident
Marie Elizabeth Cirwithian, 74, of Milton, died Tuesday, March 27, 2007, at Bayhealth-Milford Memorial Hospital, surrounded by her loving family members. She was born Dec. 19, 1932, in Milton to the late Elisabeth Hudson and Robert H. Cirwithian.
She grew up and spent her entire life in Milton.
She was a member of Bethel A.M.E. Church and was a member of the senior choir.
She also served as a secretary there and sang with the spiritual voices choir.
During her working career she worked at the King Cole plant in Milton as a production worker, retiring in the early 1980s.
She also worked with the beach conservation program planting beach grass.
She is survived by a daughter, Carol C. Parker of Lincoln; three grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be at noon, Wednesday, April 4, in the Bethel A.M.E. Church, 397 Mulberry St., Milton. Friends may call at the church two hours prior to service. The Rev. Lamont Harmon will officiate.
Burial will be in Bethel Church cemetery.
