Virginia L. Mitchell, 83, of Dagsboro, died Sunday, April 1, 2007, at Coastal Hospice at the Lake, Salisbury, Md.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Marie Ellensworth Layton; her husband, George T. Mitchell in 1999; a brother, Vernon Layton; and a sister, Margaret Revel.
She is survived by two sons, Tilghman B. Mitchell of Millsboro and Steven A. Mitchell and wife Sharon of Georgetown; a daughter, April M. Powell and husband Glenn of Dagsboro; a brother, Wallace Layton of Georgetown; two sisters, Jeanette Hall and Carolyn Timmons, both of Millsboro; five granddaughters; one grandson; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a special friend and caregiver, Virginia Hickman.
She was a former principal with the Stockley Center School, retiring with 34 years of service.
Services will be at 1 p.m., Thursday, April 5, at Watson Funeral Home, 211 Washington St., Millsboro, where friends may call one hour prior.
The Rev. Robert A. Hudson will officiate.
Interment will be in Carey’s cemetery , Millsboro.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, P.O. Box 625, Georgetown, DE 19947.

Helen Mears Parsons, 92, of Millsboro, died Sunday, April 1, 2007.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Elijah and Stella Mae Revel Lowe; two sons, Truman Mears and Robert Mears; and one sister, Hazel Hudson.
She is survived by eight grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was a retired seamstress. She was a member of the Hickory Hill United Methodist Church, Millsboro.
Services will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, April 4, at Watson Funeral Home, 211 Washington St. Millsboro, where friends may call at noon.
The Rev. Perry Mears and the Rev. Betty Jo Megee will officiate. Burial will be in Millsboro cemetery.
Edith L. Short,
devoted homemaker
Edith L. Short, 83, of Georgetown, passed away Saturday, March 31, 2007, at Bayhealth/Milford Memorial Hospital.
She was born in London, England, the daughter of the late James John and Grace Guidott Askew. She was married in England, on July 5, 1945, to Emory Short.
She was a British war bride. She was a homemaker and a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She also loved animals. She was a member of the Milford Senior Center and enjoyed traveling. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Emory Short who passed away Nov. 6, 2001; three sisters and one brother.
She is survived by three daughters, Janis S. Nickerson and her husand Bill of State College, Pa., Maxine S. Johnson and her husband, Ronnie, of Georgetown and Denise S. Leyh and her husband Jim of Georgetown; seven grandchildren, Alex and Abby Nickerson, Blair Johnson, Erin Kesselring, James, Alexis and Chelsea Leyh; one brother, Ronnie Askew of Mildenhall, England; one brother-in-law, Ralph C. Short of Dagsboro; and a cousin, George Collins of Lincoln.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m., Friday, April 6, in the chapel of Short Funeral Services, 609 E. Market St., Georgetown, where friends may call after 2 p.m.
Interment will be in Union cemetery , Georgetown.

William F. German Sr.,
foundry superintendent
William F. German Sr., 68, of Millsboro and formerly of Indian Mills and Monroeville, N.J., passed away at his home on Thursday, May 24, 2007.
He was born in Philadelphia, Pa., son of the late Elwell and Mary (Maier) German.
William was a retired foundry superintendent with Sorenson Industries in Darby, Pa., and he served with the National Guard.
He was a member of the Delaware Manufactured Housing Association. He enjoyed fishing with his dog Muffin and crabbing.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Ann Branda.
He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Barbara (Funk) German; two sons, William German Jr. and his wife Kathy, and Robert German and his wife Melissa; two daughters, Candie Abrams and her husband Everett, and Dawn Matera and her husband Gary, all of New Jersey; a brother, Elwell German Jr. of Pennsylvania; 13 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Services were held at the chapel of Melson Funeral Services, Millsboro, with burial private.

Filomena C. Dugan,
retired from DuPont
Filomena C. Dugan, 82, of Hockessin, passed away peacefully Tuesday, May 22, 2007, at Forwood Manor.
Born in Philadelphia, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Rose Cirino. She worked for the DuPont Co. as a secretary for 20 years, retiring in 1985. She was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Church. Her husband, Robert F. Dugan, predeceased her in 1996.
She will be dearly missed by her daughter, Francine M. Dugan of Wilmington; her son, Joseph R. Dugan and his wife Julie of Landenberg, Pa.; her grandchildren, Sarah and Mark; two sisters, Elvina “Scotty” Forrest of Lewes and Marie DiMauro of Dover; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, May 26, at St. Catherine of Siena Church, 2505 Centerville Road, Wilmington, where friends may call after 9:30 am. Interment will follow at St. Patrick’s cemetery , Ashland.
Fred L. Sipple Sr.,
Hall of Fame firefighter
Fred L. Sipple Sr., 80, of the Dover/Leipsic area, passed away Monday, May 21, 2007, at his home, with his family by his side.
Fred was born Jan. 30, 1927, in Wyoming, to the late W. Odie and Cynthia Sapp Sipple.
He was a life member of Leipsic Volunteer Fire Co. and a life member and past president of the Kent County Fire Police Association. He was inducted into the Delaware Volunteer Firemen’s Association Firefighters’ Hall of Fame in 1982.
Fred was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and served in Japan. He worked at Dover Air Force Base in civil service and retired in 1984. Fred loved to fox hunt with his dogs. H e also enjoyed country music. His greatest love was baseball - playing and then coaching his sons and grandsons. Fred, a lifelong Democrat, helped many state and local candidates into office. He was a member of the Central Delaware Democrat Club.
He was preceded in death by a son, Fred L. Sipple Jr.; his brothers, Maurice and his wife Sarah, Alonza, Charles and Edward; and a sister, Elizabeth Carey.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Janet R. Sipple of Leipsic; a son, Dale H. Sipple of Lewes; his daughters, Cindy Sinclair of Dover, and Robin and Teddy Kimble of Sudlersville, Md.; his sisters, Pear and her husband Harry Leslie of Hartly and Violet Dooley of France; his grandchildren, Sabrina Kimble, William Sipple, Cody Baker and Cameron Kimble; a special niece, Donna Sipple; and many nieces and nephews.
Remembrance services will be at noon Saturday, May 26, at Trader Funeral Home in Dover, where friends may call after 10:30 a.m. Burial will be at Lakeside cemetery , Dover.

William E. Munnis,

William E. Munnis, 74, of Rehoboth Beach, passed away Tuesday, May 22, 2007, at Beebe Medical Center in Lewes.
He was born June 26, 1932, in Philadelphia, Pa., son of the late William E. and Martha Haggerty Munnis.
Mr. Munnis was a drummer in the Ulster Scottish Pipe Band and the Washington Memorial Pipe Band. He was a past member of the British Legion and an avid fisherman. He served honorably with the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict.
He is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Sally Anne McFall Munnis; two daughters, Elaine Junod and husband Dr. John of Doylestown, Pa., and Diane Bresser and husband Robin of Hatfield, Pa.; three sons, Andrew Redmond and wife Jodi of Philadelphia, Pa., Philip Redmond and wife Beverly of Rehoboth Beach and Timothy Redmond and wife Kimberly of Enterprise, Ala.; six grandchildren; a sister, Betty Gould and a brother, Jack Munnis, both of Florida.
A celebration of Bill’s life will be held at a later date.

Alice N. Buciorelli Campo, 82, of Milford, formerly of Georgetown, passed away Tuesday, May 22, 2007, at Beebe Medical Center in Lewes.
Mrs. Campo was born Oct. 18, 1924 in Philadelphia, Pa., daughter of the late Albert and Nancy Romuno Buciorelli.
Mrs. Campo and her late husband, Benjamin P. Campo, who predeceased her in 1983, moved from Philadelphia to Georgetown in 1949.
Alice was a member of St. Michael The Archangel Catholic Church in Georgetown and The Bishop Burke Council of the Columbiettes. She retired in 1991 as operations manager of a Florida-based corporation.
She is survived by her loving son, H. Alan Campo and his wife Wanda of Stuart, Va.; two stepchildren, Justin and Valerie Plaster, Stuart.; a granddaughter, Judith Campo-Sobota and her husband Darren of Milford; great-granchildren, Nicholas Campo-Sobota, Benjamin Sobota and Sophia Sobota, Christina Abdoun and husband Seif of Silver Spring, Md., and Marian Campo of Milton; a sister, Virginia Navarro and husband Carmen of Philadelphia; and many nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2 p.m., Friday, May 25, at St. Michael The Archangel Catholic Church, 202 Edward St., Georgetown, where the family will recieve friends from 1 to 2 p.m. The Rev. Daniel McCloskey will be the celebrant. Interment will follow at Union cemetery
in Georgetown.

Mildred “Midge” Roessler, 79, passed away Thursday, May 3, 2007 at Alamance County Hospital in Burlington, N.C .
A Funeral Mass was held at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church Saturday, May 5.
She was predeceased by her husband, Richard “Dick” Roessler in 2003. Dick worked for Kellwood Company hosiery mill in Milton, during the 1950s and 1960s.
She is survived by her seven children, Kathy R. Osterholm and her husband Jon of Rehoboth Beach, Colleen R. Miller and her husband Bob of Chicago, Ill., Glenn K. Roessler and wife Dwan of Gilbert, Ariz., Richard C. Roessler Jr. and wife Beth of Wilmington, N.C., Carol R. Smith and husband Kent of Burlington, N.C., Jeffrey H. Roessler and wife Peggy of Little River, S.C. and Mary R. McIntyre and husband Doug of Burlington, N.C.
She will be also missed by 16 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Michael J. Szwed,
retired engineer
Michael J. Szwed, 80, of Millsboro, formerly of Jackson, N.J., passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, May 20, 2007, at Beebe Medical Center in Lewes.
Mr. Szwed was born in Wallington, N.J., son of the late Michael and Mary (Kobylarz) Szwed.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Navy.
Michael was employed by the Department of the Army as an electronic engineer for 30 years before retiring in 1995.
Mr. Szwed was past president of the Lions Club in Montville, N.J., a lifetime member of the Cape Henlopen Elks Lodge 2540 in Lewes, a lifetime member of Mason Dixon VFW Post 7234 in Ocean View and a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 28 in Oak Orchard.
Michael was a musician who loved to travel and kept busy working on the house or tinkering in the garage.
He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years Irene (Zielonka) Szwed; a son, Michael J. Szwed and his wife Arlene of Darnestown, Md.; three daughters, Eileen Klinkatsis and her husband Tony of Weddington, N.C., Michele Szwed of Mahwah, N.J. and Renee Torre and her husband Michael of Jackson, N.J.; three sisters, Wanda Paleskey, Agnes Bednarz and Bertha Monkowski; a brother, Edward Szwed; and six grandchildren, Amanda Klinkatsis, Rachel Klinkatsis, William Klinkatsis, Samantha Torre, Melissa Torre and Melissa Szwed.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m., Friday May 25, at Mary Mother of Peace Catholic Church, Route 24 near Oak Orchard.
Interment will be held at the Delaware Veterans Memorial cemetery , Millsboro.
