Carole C. Davenport,
retired administrator
Carole Cataldi Davenport, 71, of Lewes and formerly of Camden, died Saturday, May 19, 2007, in her home surrounded by her loving husband and family.
She was born Oct. 17, 1935, in Camden, daughter of the late Frank and Connie Analore Cataldi. Carole was a graduate of Caesar Rodney High School, Class of 1953. She had worked as an administrator for the Delaware Potato Board.
Her many hobbies included needlepoint, the love of travel and home decorating. She loved to plan family events and had an interest in genealogy.
She was a member of the American Needlepoint Guild, the Delaware Council of Farm Organizations and past delegate of the National Grange. She was an active volunteer with the Lewes Library, Girl Scouts of America and the Copula House Association of Edenton, N. C.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Frank Cataldi.
She is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, Lyn Davenport; three daughters Connie Dulin of Raleigh, N.C., Elizabeth Bozievich of Elmira, Ore. and Suzanne Hopkins of Wyoming; six grandchildren, Carol Ann Wilson of Lewes, Erica Leigh Dulin of Lewes, Jared Michael Dulin of Smyrna, Angela Lyn Pappas of Wyoming, Ashley Nichole Pappas of Wyoming and Mark Hopkins of Wyoming; three brothers, Joseph Cataldi of Camden, Paul Cataldi and his wife Barbara of Hartly and Benjamin Cataldi of Felton; a sister-in-law, Ruth Cataldi of Kitty Hawk, N.C.; a niece, Carin Patterson of Elkton, Md.; and a nephew, Paul Brian Cataldi of Oxford, Pa.
Friends may call 6:30 to 9 p.m., Tuesday, May 22, in the Pippin Funeral Home, 119 West Camden-Wyoming Avenue, Wyoming.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, May 23, in Holy Cross Catholic Church, 631 S. State St., Dover. Burial will be in Holy Cross cemetery , Dover. Elson L. Johnson,
retired builder
Elson L. “Rock” Johnson, 66, son of the late Marcella and Harley Johnson, was born on Jan. 7, 1941, in Lewes. Elson peacefully departed from this world to a better home on Wednesday, May 16, 2007, in Christiana Hospital in Newark, surrounded by his wife and friends.
Elson received all of his education at Johnson and Jason school. Elson loved his tools; as we all know, Elson would buy tools and have the same ones in one of his many buildings in his yard or in his van. He was the only one who could ride in that van because he had so many of his tools in there that no one else could fit. He was employed with James Julian Construction Inc., and after retiring, he continued to work as a handyman. Whenever Elson was asked to do some carpentry he would always be right there. Now, it may have taken some extra time to get it done, but you could always count on things being done accurately. Whenever Elson was in need, Barbara was right there. Elson was associated with Harmony United Methodist Church and St. John’s Baptist Church. He was very devoted to helping both churches with his carpentry skills. Elson loved children. He always loved buying someone else’s child a gift. He truly loved his godchild, Eurecka Briddell. While at Christiana Hospital, all he wanted was to be “saved” as he did accept Christ in his heart as his personal savior. He was preceded in death by his brothers George Edsell and Randall Kendall and his sister, Barbara Johnson.
He leaves to cherish his memories his wife of 39 years, Barbara, whom he married June 17, 1967; three sisters, Rochella Nock and Vivian Johnson of Millsboro and Blonnie McCall of Lewes; two brothers, Crawford Johnson and Harlin Johnson and his wife Jean of Georgetown; five brothers-in-law, Raymond Moore of Millsboro, Freddie Roberts and Oather Roberts Jr. and his wife Harriet of Delmar, Charles Wise and his wife Emma of Salisbury, Md. and Timothy Wise of Pennsylvania; four sisters-in-law, Beatrice Johnson of Millsboro, Evelyn Handy and her husband Robert of Delmar, Aleen Monroe of Pennsylvania, and Martha Peters of Salisbury; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins, along with many, many friends.
Services were held at St. John’s Second Baptist Church, Millsboro, with interment in the church cemetery.
Janet Marie Greenwell,

Janet Marie Greenwell, 53, of Dewey Beach passed away Saturday, May 12, 2007, at home, after a short struggle with cancer.
She is survived by her loving lifelong partner, Richard Rodgers of Dewey Beach; her mother, Janet Greenwell of Santa Cruz, Calif.; her sisters, Maggie Ghaffari of Ben Lomond, Calif.; Penny Greenwell of Carbondale, Colo., and Barbara Goldenberg of Oakland, Calif.; friends, Michelle, Lou, Casy and Chadd, Bob and Cheryl, Hap and Zack and many more loving friends around the country, who will all miss her wonderful smile and quirky sense of humor. She never walked into a room where she didn’t make new friends.

Melinda M. Decker,

Melinda Michelle Decker, 34, of Lewes, passed away at home Wednesday, May 16, 2007.
Melinda was born March 24, 1973, in Riverside, N.J., the daughter of Glenn A. Gauvry of Lewes and Marcia Graham Hudson of Macon, Ga.
Melinda was a self-employed artist who enjoyed designing tattoos, photography, writing poetry and spending time with her family and friends.
She was a loving and devoted mother and showed a great sense of compassion for the suffering of others.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by a son, Gage P. Gauvry-Decker of Philadelphia; her paternal grandparents, Leonard and Lillian Rippa of Smyrna; and her maternal grandfather, Wilburn Graham of Georgia.
Memorial services were held in Smyrna, with burial private.
Arrangements are by Faries Funeral Directors, Inc., 29 S. Main St., Smyrna.
Pauline Rogers Parsons,
Pittsville homemaker
Pauline Rogers Parsons, 70, of Pittsville, Md., went home to be with the Lord on Friday, May 18, 2007 after suffering a massive stroke at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury, Md.
She was born Sept. 13, 1936 in Frankford, daughter of the late Milton J. and Edna E. (Bunting) Rogers.
Pauline attended and graduated from Selbyville High School in 1955 and was wed on June 25, 1955. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who cherished and loved her family more than anything.
Mrs. Parsons also enjoyed cooking, gardening, singing and taking care of her beloved poodle Ginger. She also enjoyed dining out with her family.
She leaves behind to cherish her memories are her devoted and loving husband of 51 years W. Lewis Parsons; a son, Roger Parsons and his wife Lisa of Pittsville; a daughter, Linda S. Parsons and her fiancée Donald Dorsey of Denton, Md.; two grandchildren whom she adored dearly, Phillip and Austin Parsons of Pittsville. She is also survived by a brother, Clarence Rogers and his wife Sharon of Millsboro and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday May 22, at the Frankford Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, Thatcher Street, Frankford, where friends and family may call after 1 p.m. The Rev. Paul Sherwood will be officiating. Interment will be held in Pittsville cemetery.
Andrew Galanos,
Sunbeam Oster retiree
Andrew Galanos, 95, of Milton, passed away on Saturday, May 19, 2007 at Green Valley Terrace Nursing Home in Millsboro.
He was born in Detroit, Mich., and raised in Philadelphia, Pa., son of the late Peter and Caliope (Andrews) Galanos.
Mr. Galanos entered the military service in 1943 and became a member of the 26th infantry division, which went overseas that year. He was a Bulge of the Battle survivor and was awarded six medals and two oak leaf clusters. He was honorably discharged in Germany in May 1946 and attained the rank of technical sergeant. Mr. Galanos was then immediately hired by the war department in Frankfurt, Germany and worked for the government from 1946 to 1952.
Upon returning to the United States he was then hired by Sunbeam Oster Corp., in Philadelphia and retired in 1976.
He was a member of the Masonic lodge St. Alban Swain 529 at the Masonic Temple in Philadelphia and the Delaware Valley chapter of Veterans of the Battle of the Bulge.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Karin V. Galanos, in 2005 and his son Colin Andrew Galanos in 2005. He is survived by his daughter, Heather Galanos Hogan and her husband Bernie of Evansville, Ind.; two grandchildren, Colin and Mallory Hogan; and two nieces Kitty Capetanakis and Callie Jackson.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, May 22, at the Delaware Veterans Memorial cemetery
Chapel, Millsboro, where friends may call that morning from 8:30 - 9:30 a.m. at the Long Neck Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, Long Neck Rd., Millsboro. The Rev. Randy Booth will officiate.

Lt. Col. Donald Perrotta,

Lt. Col. Donald T. Perrotta, 70, died Thursday, May 17, 2007, a peaceful, quiet death at his home surrounded by all of his family.
Don was born Sept. 8, 1936, in Philadelphia, Pa., where he married his high school sweetheart, Mary Ann Andreacchio.
He was a graduate of St. Joseph Prep and St. Joseph University.
He joined the Air Force, served in Vietnam and retired as a lt. colonel.
He was a recipient of the Bronze Star, Air Force Commendation Medal and Meritorious Medal.
He loved boating, fishing and gardening. Most of all he loved to entertain and cook for family and friends. He will be truly missed by his wife, family and friends who loved him very much.
Don is survived by his wife of 49 years, Mary Ann; their four children; and 14 grandchildren.
He had retired to his dream home near Bethany Beach at Bay Colony.
His loved ones include Thomas and Helen Perrotta of Harrisburg, Pa., their three children, Donald, Thomas and Matthew; Vincent and Tina Perrotta of Salisbury, Md. and their five children Chris, Nick, Julia, Steve and Joe; Donna and Jeff Winton of Chester Springs, Pa., and their three children Cara, Laura and Jonathan; and Steve and Bridgette Perrotta of Lewes and their three children, Anthony, Sara and Annmarie.
In addition he is survived by his sister, Mary McKenna, his brother in-law Charlie and their three children.
He is also blessed to be survived by many family members including cousins, nephews, nieces and in-laws.
In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to the United Cerebral Palsy of Delaware, 700A River Road,, Wilmington DE 19809 in his memory and in honor of his beautiful twin granddaughters.
The funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, May 22, in St. Francis de Sales in Lenni, Pa..
The Mass will be followed by a Catholic burial at Sts. Peter and Paul cemetery
in Springfield, Pa.

James W. Connor,

James W. Connor, 81, of Georgetown, died Wednesday, May 16, 2007, at his residence.
Mr. Connor was born in Elkton, Md., son of the late George Henry Connor and Ruby Priscilla (Beauchamp) Connor.
He had been employed as a painter in both residential and commercial painting.
James loved to bowl and shoot pool and had earned several certificates through winning tournaments at the CHEER Center. He was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Georgetown since 1995.
Mr. Connor was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Conner was predeceased by his wife, Dorothy Virginia (Rogers) Connor in March 1993.
He is survived by a daughter, Audrey E. Connor; five sons and four daughters-in-law, W. James and Deborah Connor, Charles A. and Joyce Connor, Ronald R. and Jacque Connor, John U. and Kathy Connor and L. Martin Connor; 17 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held at 4 p.m., Sunday, May 27, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, Route 9, Georgetown, with Frank Bailey officiating. Interment will be private at Harbeson cemetery
in Harbeson.

Wayne “Laddie” T. Stitik, 53, of San Mateo, Calif., and formerly of Wilmington, died of a heart attack on May 2, 2007, while running near his home.
A graduate of John Dickinson High School and New York City Community College, he was employed by ThermoFisher Scientific in San Mateo. He was formerly employed by Dade Behring International in Newark.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Peggy Stitik of Wilmington and his brother, Dale Stitik, of Tampa, Fla.
He is survived by his brother, Paul G. Stitik and his wife, Kim, of Wilmington; sisters-in-law, Jayne Stitik of Tampa and Beth Paris of Lewes Beach; nephews, Brent, Paul, Hunter, Shane and Cole; as well as longtime friend and companion, Susan Sellers.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, May 19, at All Saints cemetery . In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to a charity of choice.
Robert T. Dixon,
retired letter carrier
Robert T. “Bob” Dixon, 69, of Millsboro and formerly of Wilmington, passed away at his home on May 15, 2007, surrounded by his loving family, after a short illness.
Mr. Dixon was a letter carrier with the U.S. Postal Service and was a member of the Letter Carriers Union Local 191. He served our country in the U.S. Navy Reserves and U.S. Navy.
He enjoyed fishing, gardening and spending winters at his home in Englewood, Fla.
He was predeceased by his father, William L. Dixon; his mother, Madeline Dixon Maguire; his stepfather, Joseph F. Maguire; and his brother, Raymond Dixon.
He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Betty Maliszewski Dixon; his son Robert Dixon and his wife, Jade, of Islamorada, Fla.; his son, Mark Dixon and his wife, Shari, of Lewes; his daughter, Julie Dixon, of Newark; his grandchildren, Alexa, Mark, and Erik; and his brothers, William Dixon, of New York and James Dixon, of Florida.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. John the Beloved Church, Wilmington, with internment in All Saints cemetery , Wilmington.
James N. Scheible,

James N. Scheible, 61, of Millsboro, formerly of Washington D.C., passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family Monday May 14, 2007 at his home.
Mr. Scheible was born Feb. 4, 1946 to Norman Lloyd and Ruth Sweeney Scheible.
He owned Homesure Inspection Company and was a certified building inspector with United Research Scientists of Wilmington (URS Corp.). Mr. Scheible also holds a U.S. patent for the C-Flow Radon Screening System.
He was a life member of the American Association of Radon Scientists and Technologists and a member of the International Code Council.
He attended Grace of God Lutheran Church in Millsboro. James loved sailing, playing chess, golfing and philosophy.
He was preceded in death by his father Feb. 1, 2007.
He is survived by his mother Ruth Scheible of Merritt Island, Fla.; his loving wife of four years, the Rev. Judith A. Moller; a daughter, Sonya P. Reel of Cascade, Md.; a son-in-law, Jay Calhoun; two grandchildren, Sean P. Reel and Nichole V. Reel; and four stepsons, Matthew Rippey, Samuel Rippey, Mason Rippey and Christopher Rippey.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday May 19, at the Long Neck Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, Long Neck Road, Millsboro, where the family will receive visitors from 10 to 11 a.m. Burial will be private.
