Walter J. Blaha,
retired consultant
Walter J. Blaha, 78, of Millsboro, died Thursday, Oct. 14, 2004, at the Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury, Md.
Mr. Blaha was born in Elizabeth, NJ., the only child of the late John and Elizabeth Blaha. He was an Eagle Scout prior to his service as a World War II veteran and graduated in 1952 from the University of Maryland earning a bachelor’’s degree in the School of Engineering, starting his career in Baltimore.
Mr. Blaha had a rewarding career in the activated carbon industry, retiring from ATO Chemical in 1989.
He continued to serve the industry with his expert advice as a consultant after his retirement from ATO.
Mr. Blaha moved to Millsboro in 1991 and became very active in Mary, Mother of Peace Roman Catholic Church as an usher, member of the St. Vincent De Paul Society and as Past Faithful Navigator and Color Corp as a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus.
His many activities in the community included membership in the Lions Club, Oak Orchard-Riverdale Post 28 American Legion, Millsboro Art League, and as a volunteer in the Meals on Wheels program.
He was also active in the Hunter’s Point Homeowners Association as secretary for several terms. The outpouring of sympathy and good will from his church and community speaks as a tribute of his many contributions to the community and lives he touched.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Constance V. Blaha, who remains in ICU at Beebe Medical Center in Lewes; two children, Cynthia Lamb and John Blaha and wife Eileen; two grandchildren, Carolyn Lamb and James Lamb; and two grand dogs, Mac and Corky.
Funeral arrangements will be handled by Melson Funeral Services of Long Neck and announced at a later date. Interment will be in the Delaware Veterans Memorial cemetery
South in Millsboro.
Mildred Bevis Hughes,
retired from service
Mildred Bevis Hughes, 87, of Rehoboth Beach, and formerly of Wilmington, died on Friday, Oct. 15, 2004, at her residence.
She was born on January 27, 1917, in Wilmington, daughter of the late Paul D. Bevis and Anna Rodman Bevis.
Mrs. Hughes was a 1935 graduate of Wilmington High School, and had worked at Continental Insurance, for the Delaware General Assembly, and for New Castle County Government in the offices of Prothonotary’s, County Engineers’ and the Recorder of Deeds, retiring in 1970.
She had also helped her husband build the Hughes Security Service.
She had been involved with many organizations over the years including Rebeccas, Republican Party in New Castle County, Rehoboth Village Improvement Association, Epworth United Methodist Church, Rehoboth Beach Country Club as well as several local bridge groups.
She was preceded in death by her husband, former state senator Charles “Pete” Hughes, in March of 2004.
She is survived by her daughters, Doris Latta of Greenville, S.C., and Judith Bryan of Rehoboth Beach; three grandchildren, Steven Latta, Janis Lopez, and Karen Pickard; and one great grandson, Ryan Thomas Pickard.
Memorial services will be held at noon, Tuesday, Oct. 19, at Epworth U.M. Church in Rehoboth Beach, with the Rev. Jack Abel officiating.
Private burial will be at All Saints cemetery , Angola.

Marie Kealy,
retired secretary
Marie Kealy of Chapel Green, Lewes, and formerly of Hazleton, Pa., died Wednesday, Oct. 13, at Beebe Medical Center, Lewes.
Born in Hazleton, she was the daughter of the late James and Margaret Piccarisi. She moved to Brooklyn, N.Y., where she worked as a secretary for the federal government and relocated to Lewes. Preceding her in death were her husband, William Kealy, and brother-in-law, Edward Snyder.
She is survived by a son, Bill, and his wife Denise, of Patchogue, N.Y.; grandsons Keith and Brian; a sister, Elvira Snyder of Lewes, with whom she resided; and a nephew, James Snyder.
Funeral services were held in Hazleton with burial in the Most Precious Blood cemetery , Hazleton. Friends are invited to a memorial service at 2 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 24, in the Carriage Museum in Georgetown.
Lillian H. Richter,
retired artist
Lillian H. Richter, 86, of Warwick, Md., died Monday, Oct. 11, 2004, at the Laurelwood Nursing Home in Elkton, Md.
Mrs. Richter was born in Wilmington to the late John W. and Lillie D. Procter Sandtrum. She was married for 56 years to the late John Richter. She was an artist and accomplished in all mediums.
She was preceded in death by a grandson.
She is survived by a son, John W. Richter II of Englewood, Fla.; two daughters, Joann Richter of New Castle and Jac W. Richter of Pocono Pines, Pa.; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one sister, Helen Green of Lewes.
Services were private.

Frank L. Reed Jr.,

Frank L. Reed Jr., 67, of Estero, Fla., and formerly of Milford and Rehoboth Beach, died Saturday, Oct. 9, 2004, of complications of prostate cancer, at home.
Mr. Reed was born Nov. 5, 1936, in Milford. He had lived in Estero for 10 years.
He was a member of Cypress Lake Presbyterian Church, Fort Myers.
He is survived by his loving wife, Patricia A. Reed; two sons, Frank L. Reed III of Gainseville, Fla., and Christopher H. Reed of Milford; a daughter and son-in-law, Carrie L. and Ronald Sigmon of Roanoke, Va.; four grandchildren, Christopher Sigmon, Nicholas Sigmon, Victoria Sigmon and Dalton Sigmon, all of Roanoke; his father, Frank L. Reed Sr. of the Country Rest Home in Greenwood; his mother, Marguerite Reed of Lincoln; two sisters and two brothers-in-law, Charlotte and Howard Kirsch of Lewes and Joan and Wilson Morgan of Lincoln; and his little girl, “Marlies.”
A celebration of his life was held in Cypress Lake Presbyterian Church, Fort Myers, Fla. A memorial service will be held at a later date in Epworth United Methodist Church, Rehoboth Beach.

Delores A. Brittingham,

Delores Ann Brittingham, 59, of Georgetown, died Wednesday, Oct. 13, 2004, in Nanticoke Memorial Hospital, Seaford.
Mrs. Brittingham was born in Salisbury, Md., the daughter of the late Clayton H. and Louise Marie Wells Revel.
She was a seamstress for several area sewing factories before her retirement due to disability.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Brittingham, in 1999.
She is survived by five brothers, Bruce Revel and Jeffrey Revel, both of Millsboro, Donald Wells of Milford, David Revel of Dagsboro and Clayton Revel Jr. of Seaford; three sisters, Carolyn Werner and Susan Mayer, both of Millsboro and Deborah Boyneuyri of Dagsboro; and several nieces and nephews.
Services were held in Carey’s cemetery , Millsboro.

Donelda M. Burton, 83, of Lincoln, formerly of Millsboro, died Tuesday, Oct. 12, 2004, in the Harrison House of Georgetown.
Mrs. Burton was born in Lewes, daughter of the late Jacob and Nellie Daisey Draine.
She was a member of the Burton’s Chapel Church near Milton.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry C. Burton Jr.
She is survived by two sisters, Anna Louise Coursey of Lincoln and Hilda Mosley of Bridgeton, N.J.; and several nieces and nephews.
Services were held in Watson Funeral Home, Millsboro, with burial in Christ’s Church cemetery , near Harbeson.
Rachel M. Crowers,

Rachel M. Crowers, 6, of King of Prussia, Pa., died peacefully Tuesday, Oct. 12, 2004, at home, surrounded by her loving family.
Rachel was born Jan. 29, 1998, in Bryn Mawr, Pa., the daughter of Steven M. and Jeanne M. Vance Crowers.
She was a first grade student at Candlebrook Elementary School in King of Prussia.
She is survived by her loving parents, Steven M. and Jeanne M. Crowers; her sister, Danielle J. Crowers, at home; her paternal grandmother, Beverly M. (Osterley) Crowers of Sharon Hill, Pa.; her maternal grandparents, Joseph W. and Joan M. (Shamansky) Vance of Lewes; her paternal great-grandmother, Sadie (Marcheson) Osterley of Prospect Park, Pa.; and many aunts and uncles.
Services and burial were private.

John L. “Jack” Turner,
Decorated veteran
John L. “Jack” Turner, 80, of Wildwood, N.J., and formerly of Delaware, died suddenly Monday, Oct. 11, 2004, at home.
Born in Worcester, Mass., he had been a Wildwood resident for the past 15 years. Mr. Turner was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Air Force as gunnery sergeant with the B26 Marauder Division. He flew numerous dangerous missions in Europe, including D-Day.
Mr. Turner was a member of the VFW in Newark before moving to New Jersey. He enjoyed playing golf and was a member of the Wildwood Country Club until ailing health prevented his ability to play. He was also a member of the Wildwood Lions Club. He was a very outgoing man and loved going to University of Delaware games with his many friends He also loved watching the Phillies over many seasons. As his health became increasingly difficult, he became a frequent visitor to the Cape May County Zoo and loved to spend the day walking and enjoying wildlife. He will be remembered by his children for his passion, determination and never ending desire to see his children succeed.
He is survived by four children, Michael of Hilton Head, N.C., John of Landenberg, Pa., Joan Williamson of Lewes and Toni Ann Lindsay of Newark; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A graveside service was held in Cape May County Veterans’ cemetery , Cape May Court House, N.J.

Clarence David Webb,
retired from U.S. Air Force
Clarence David Webb, 57, died Friday, Oct. 15, 2004.
He was born July 22, 1947, son of the late Margarette A. and Richard M. Webb.
He retired from the U.S. Air Force after 24 years of active duty and returned home to Sussex County. At the time of his death, he was employed by Vic’s A-1 Towing in Georgetown.
He was preceded in death by an infant brother, Randall Lee.
He is survived by a sister, Judy, and her husband, Bill Lawson of Georgetown; a brother, Richard, and his wife Connie of Dagsboro; a daughter, Tina; and four nieces, Robin Esham, Amber Welch, Karen Carey and Tara Quillen. He will also be greatly missed by K.C. and by several aunts, uncles and friends.
The burial will be private at the Delaware Veterans cemetery , Stockley. In lieu of flowers, a donation in Dave’s memory to the Home of the Brave Foundation Inc. at 5532 Sharp’s Road, Milford DE 19963 would be appreciated.
