Beverly Ann Karlik,
retired beautician
Beverly Ann (Piatt) Karlik, 80, of Wilmington and formerly of Rehoboth Beach, passed away Friday, June 8, 2007, at home, surrounded by family and loved ones. Beverly was born July 27, 1926, in Wilkes-Barre, Pa.
She was a well-known beautician for Ina’s French Hair Styling, Wilmington and Rehoboth Beach for many years. She was also employed at Ye Old Jewel Shoppe in Rehoboth Beach before retiring.
Beverly had a great love for the beach and resided in Rehoboth Beach for many years before retiring to Wilmington.
She loved life to the fullest and had a way of turning even a difficult situation around to find some humor in it. “A merry heart doeth good like a medicine,” (Proverbs 17:22) describes Beverly perfectly. For she spread her good cheer and laughter to everyone she met.
Beverly will be deeply missed by all those who knew and loved her. Her many acts of kindness and caring ways will live long in our memories.
During the last eight years of her life, she was cared for by Bayada nurses and home health aides. Their love and compassion made it possible for Beverly to enjoy her last days at home with dignity.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Joseph; her brother, Earle; and two sisters, Ellen and Gloria.
She is survived by her son, Eugene Jr. and his wife Monika Karlik of Marshalls Creek, Pa.; two daughters and their husbands, Jo and Steve Melson of Wilmington, with whom she resided for the past 17 years, and Gail and Richard Smith of Milton; four grandchildren, Kenneth Melson, Shane Karlik, Patience Karlik and Phillip Ingram Jr.; six great-grandchildren; three nephews; and two nieces.
Burial will be private. A celebration of Beverly”s life will be planned at a later date for friends and family. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made in Beverly’s name to Bayada Nurses, c/o Ginny Gotides, 750 S. Madison St., Suite 100, Wilmington, DE 19801.
Phillip A. Parkhill,

Phillip A. Parkhill of Milton, 53, died Tuesday, June 5, 2007, at home.
He was born in Milford, son of the late Morris and Winnifred (Megee) Parkhill of Milton.
Mr. Parkhill was a self-employed painter for many years.
He enjoyed hunting and deep- sea fishing. In addition to his mother, he is survived by a daughter, Cassie Parkhill Butler of Harrington; and a brother, Mark Parkhill of Marcus Hook, Pa.
A memorial service was held in the Chapel of Short Funeral Services, 416 Federal St., Milton.
Cora A. Hickman,
Harbeson native
Cora A. Hickman, 97, of Harbeson, passed away peacefully Sunday, June 10, 2007, in her home. Cora had a great love for her family and animals.
She was very generous and always was young at heart.
In her earlier years, Cora loved playing with her grandkids, traveling and going to yard sales. She was a member of the Daughters of Order, United American Men and Delaware Council.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Isaiah Mitchell; her husband, William “Bill” Hickman; two children, Harry G. Hickman and Josephine Hickman; one grandson, Harry W. Hickman; and 10 of her siblings.
Cora is survived by two grandsons, whom she and Bill raised, Gary and Barry Hickman, both of Harbeson; four great-grandchildren, Lance and Kelsey Hickman of Harbeson, and Cassidy and Seth Hickman of Crestview, Fla.; one nephew, Lloyd Rust; a sister-in-law, Virginia Rust, who lovingly helped care for her.
Graveside services were held in the Harbeson cemetery.
Jean L. Rizzo,

Jean L. Beecher Rizzo, 76, of Wilmington, passed away peacefully at her home Wednesday, June 6, 2007, surrounded by her family.
Born in Lewes, Mrs. Rizzo was the wife of the late Herman “Chap” Rizzo who predeceased her in 1996. She was a member of St. Paul’s Church and BVM Sodality and a bingo volunteer.
She will be missed by her daughter and son-in-law, Jean and Wayne Morris of Lewes; her sons and daughter-in-law, Michael and Beth of Wilmington and Mark of Glasgow; her grandchildren, Tara Troise and her husband Jeremy of Camden, and Lauren Rizzo of Wilmington; and her faithful friend, Queenie.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, June 12, at St. Paul’s Church, 1010 West 4th St., Wilmington, where friends are invited to call after 9:30 a.m. Interment will follow at Cathedral cemetery , Wilming-ton.

Charkles ‘Bill’ Grabey,
retired technician
Charles William “Bill” Grabey, 83, of Millsboro, formerly of Schuylkill Haven, Pa., passed away peacefully Wednesday, June 6, 2007, at his home.
Mr. Grabey was born in Pottsville, Pa., son of the late Charles H. and Sarah Huber Grabey. He was a graduate of Pine Grove High School class of 1942 and served in the Army stationed in Europe during World War II.
Mr. Grabey was employed as an armament technician for the 103rd Combined Support and Maintenance Shop, Fort Indiantown Gap, Annville, Pa.
Bill was a member of the 103rd and 337th Pennsylvania National Guard, retiring in 1973. He was a life member of Pine Grove American Legion in Pine Grove, Pa., and also the Rainbow Hose Co. in Schuylkill Haven, Pa. Mr. Grabey was also a member of the Long Neck United Methodist Church, Jefferson Lodge F. & A.M. in Lewes, AARP chapter of Long Neck, the Indian River Senior Center, the American Legion Post 28 and an honorary member of the Lewes Radio Control Airplane Club.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Alice Brown Grabey in May 2006.
He is survived by his daughter Phyllis Koch and her husband Allen of Hamburg, Pa., and a granddaughter, Tanya Hawkins and her husband Sean of Beahle Air Force Base in California.
A Masonic service will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, June 16, followed by the funeral service at the Long Neck Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, Long Neck Road, Millsboro, where friends and family may call after 10 a.m. A graveside service will be held at 11:30 a.m., Monday, June 18, at Indiantown Gap National cemetery , Annville, Pa.

Sarah R. Johnson, 84, of Milton, passed away Friday, June 8, 2007, at Beebe Medical Center, Lewes.
Mrs. Johnson was born in Milton, the daughter of the late Benjamin and Mary Emma (Smith) Reed.
She was a homemaker, loving wife, mother, grandmother and great- grandmother. She loved cats and was an avid Phillies fan.
Mrs. Johnson was a member of Zion U. M. Church. She worked as a secretary for Dulany Foods of Milton for several years.
She is survived by her husband Elwood “Woody” Johnson; her children, Mary Catherine Hopkins and her husband John “Jack” Hudson of Milton; Kim Hutcheson and her husband Gary of Ordinary, Va.; and Bill Johnson and his wife Karen of Milton; two grandchildren, Johnny A. Hopkins III and his wife Dawn; and Jessi Johnson; and two great-grandchildren, Justin Hopkins and Izaak Hopkins.
Funeral Services will be at 1 p.m., Wednesday, June 13, in the chapel of Short Funeral Services Inc., 416 Federal St., Milton, where friends may call Tuesday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. Interment will be in Zion U. M. cemetery.

Jackie L. (Jones) Cresto, 47, of Odessa, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 7, 2007, at her home surrounded by her family after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Wilmington, Jackie was the daughter of Brudetta Jones and the late Howard Jones Sr.
She worked as a bookkeeper for Discover Bank before her illness. She enjoyed reading and crafts.
In addition to her mother, she will be dearly missed by her husband, Joseph W. Cresto; her son, Terry Pennell and his companion, Chrissy; her stepdaughter, Amy Rust and her husband Chris of Millsboro; and her stepson Craig Cresto and his wife Rennee of Hockessin. Also surviving are her sisters and brothers-in-law, Cathy and Richard Cresto of Middletown, and Mary and Joseph Boswell of Oxford, Pa.; her brother, Howard Jones Jr. of Middletown; her mother-in-law, Irene T. Cresto; two grandchildren; and four nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, June 12, at the chapel at Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. Dupont Parkway, New Castle, where friends and family are invited to visitation after 1 p.m. Entombment is private. Ellen “Sis” Bolin,

Ellen “Sis” Bolin, 78, of Milton, passed away Thursday, June 7, 2007, in her home.
Mrs. Bolin was born in Wilmington, daughter of the late Joseph and Katherine Stubbs.
During the late 1970s through 1989, she was the owner and operator of the Heartbreak Hotel of Bowers Beach. After selling the business, she worked in food service for Delaware Technical & Community College, Georgetown. She loved to be around people, and was an avid Elvis fan. Mrs. Bolin was a member of the AARP and Shuffleboard Club. In years past, she was into home interior decorating.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by seven brothers; three sisters; her husband, William R. Bolin; and a special companion, Earl Cheek.
She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, William R. and Betty Bolin of Phoenixville, Pa., John P. and Cindy Bolin of Houston; a special friend who was like a son, Robert Cheek; two grandchildren, Dennis Edge and Eric Edge; five great-grandchildren; and her loving dog, Babette.
Funeral services were held in Melvin Funeral Home, Harrington, with burial in Mount Olive cemetery , Sandtown.
William B. Hickman Jr.,

William B. Hickman Jr., 83, of Milton, formerly of Wilmington, died Friday, June 8, 2007, following surgery in John Hopkins Union Hospital, Baltimore.
Mr. Hickman was a 1941 graduate of Conrad High School and served in World War II and Korea as a Navy aviation electrician.
He retired as a service foreman in 1979 after 33 years of service with Diamond State Telephone Co. During his retirement he volunteered for many years as an American Red Cross driver, American Cancer Society driver and CHEER Meals on Wheels driver. He enjoyed skeet shooting, bird hunting and fishing.
Mr. Hickman was past president of Milton Lions Club and a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Georgetown. He was a lifetime member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. He was a member of American Legion Post 8, Georgetown.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Doris Cathcart Hickman; his children Doris Hickman Schirmer and her husband Carl of Milton and Jane Hickman Marienau and her husband John of Michigan City, Ind.; his grandchildren, C.J. Schirmer, Christine Fletcher and Rob Schirmer; a stepgrandson, Bill Marienau; and five great-grandchildren, Jessica, Blake, Shelby, Jacob and Jamie; and two great-great-grandchildren, Tatelyn and Logan.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Tuesday, June 12, in the chapel of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Academy and Pine streets, Georgetown. Burial will be in Delaware Veterans Memorial cemetery , Stockley.

Lois M. Hearn,

Lois M. Hearn, 70, of Philadelphia, Pa., died Sunday, June 3, 2007, at Keystone Hospice in Wyndmor, Pa. She was born in Bristol, Pa, and spent her childhood in Rehoboth Beach and her adult life in the Philadelphia area. She was employed by Lockheed Martin as an electronic technician and retired in 2002.
She was preceded in death by her sister Helene Hearn Embiscuso. She is survived by her brother, Donald Hearn Sr. and sister-in-law Patricia Lynch Hearn; and several nieces and nephews.

Colleen E. Bogsch,

Colleen E. Bogsch, 77, of Millsboro, died Wednesday, June 6, 2007, in Beebe Medical Center, Lewes.
Mrs. Bogsch was married to William R. Bogsch for 56 years and resided in Millsboro for the past 12, coming from Ridley Park, Pa., where she lived for 30 years.
She was a billing clerk for 25 years, employed by Taylor Hospital in Ridley Park and retired in 1995. Mrs. Bogsch was full of life and love and enjoyed her family and friends. She especially enjoyed playing bingo, doing puzzles and being a member of the Women’s Auxiliary of American Legion Post 28 in Delaware. She was instrumental in the charismatic movement at St. Madeline’s Church in Ridley Park, where she was a former member. Survivors include her husband, William R. Bogsch of Millsboro; three sons, William Bogsch of Ridley Park, Martin Bogsch of Coatesville, Pa., and Thomas Bogsch of Tampa, Fla.; three daughters, Mary Naklicki of Millsboro, Alice Piotti of Springfield, Pa., and Natalie Dougherty of Milmont Park, Pa.; three sisters, Cecilia Samm of Baltimore, Md., Mary Hohl of Beverly Hills, Fla., and Patricia Koetzle of Millsboro; 16 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Bruce Allen Fisher, 49, of Lewes, passed away Tuesday, June 5, 2007, at University of Pennsylvania Medical Center in Philadelphia, Pa.
He was born Sept. 30, 1957, in Lewes, son of the late William E. Fisher Sr. and Betty Quigley Fisher of Lewes.
Mr. Fisher was a member of American Veterans Long Neck Post, and a Son of American Legion Post 17, Lewes.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by three sisters, Diana Sherrill of Jacksonville, Fla., Linda Joseph of Seaford and Brenda Stewart of Lewes. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his brother, William E. Fisher Jr. in 2004.
