Jeanne M. Mooney,

Jeanne M. Mooney, 76, of Long Neck, died Monday, June 4, 2007, at home.
She was born at home in Jersey City, N.J., April 24, 1931. She was the daughter of the late William and Anna Maude Moore. She later married and moved to Metuchen, N.J., where she lived for 10 years. Before moving to Delaware to retire, she and her family settled in Brick, N.J. from 1966 to 1995.
She loved and enjoyed her family and many friends; she enjoyed music and singing as a member of the Jersey Shore Chapter of “The Sweet Adelines,” She loved traveling, bowling and crafts. She was a very caring person.
In the last few years she worked during the summer at Tunnell Communities as an attendant at the pools and shuffleboard court where she enjoyed the families and children. She also was affiliated for two years with Families Connected Inc. in Millsboro. She was a member of the American Legion Post #28 Auxiliary in Oak Orchard. She was a lifelong Catholic and a member of Mary Mother of Peace Roman Catholic Church in Oak Orchard.
She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Ralph J. Mooney; her five children and their spouses, Thomas Mooney and his wife Barbara of Brick, William Mooney and his wife Caroline of Bellmore, N.Y.; James Mooney and his wife Eileen of Millsboro; Raymond Mooney and his wife Donna of Galloway, N.J.; and her only daughter, Patricia Ross, and her husband, Kerry, of Long Neck. Along with several cousins, nieces and nephews, she will be sadly missed by her nine grandchildren, Jeffrey, Dan, Bridget, Brian, Shannon Jeanne, Samantha, Christopher, Kathleen, Chelsea; one great-grandchild, Madison; and a brother, Edward Moore of Boxford, Mass.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 a.m., Monday, June 11, at Mary Mother of Peace Catholic Church, Route 24, Oak Orchard. Friends and family may call from 2 to 4 p.m., Sunday, June 10, and again from 7 to 9 p.m. that evening at the chapel of Melson Funeral Services, 32013 Long Neck Rd. Burial will be at Delaware Veterans Memorial cemetery
South in Millsboro.

Philip A. Brown,
systems analyst
Philip A. Brown, 86, of Rehoboth Beach, passed away Tuesday, June 5, 2007, at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
Mr. Brown was born July 20, 1920 in Drexel Hill, Pa., son of the late Joseph and Anna Phillips Brown.
Mr. Brown had been employed as a civilian Systems Analyst with the U.S. Marine Corps. He was active with the Army Reserves for 33 years, retiring as a lieutenant colonel and he was on active duty with the U.S. Army during World War II.
Mr. Brown enjoyed square dancing with the Liberty Squares, Philadelphia, Pa.; he was a member of the St. Andrew’s Players in Drexel Hill; a member of the Cape Henlopen Senior Center; and he sang with the Bill Earl Chorus Group, Lewes. Mr. Brown and his wife moved to the Rehoboth Beach area about 13 years ago from Drexel Hill.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Brown was predeceased by three brothers and two sisters.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Edith Fegan Brown; three daughters, Terry McLaughlin of Marlton, N.J., Patty Brown of Rehoboth Beach and Maureen Nestel and her husband Brian of Drexel Hill; three sons, Robert J. Brown and his wife Regina of Springfield, Pa., Philip A. Brown Jr. and his wife Carol of Broomall, Pa., and C.A. Brown of Rehoboth Beach; 16 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m., Friday, June 8, at St. Edmond’s Catholic Church, King Charles Avenue and Laurel Street, Rehoboth Beach, where friends may call one hour prior to Mass. The Rev. Raymond Forrester will be the celebrant. Interment will be at Saints Peter and Paul cemetery , Springfield, Pa., Saturday, June 9.

Charles Sockriter,

Charles L. Sockriter, 70, of Lewes, passed away Monday June 4, 2007, at the University of Pennsylvania Medical Center in Philadelphia, Pa.
He was born April 15, 1937, in Lewes, son of the late Samuel and Minnie (Green) Sockriter.
Mr. Sockriter retired in 2006 after 45 years as owner and operator of Breakwater Fuel.
He enjoyed agricultural farming and the management of his hunting farm, “Wolf Pit,” where he spent his leisure time with many of his local friends. Most importantly he was devoted to his loving family.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his first wife, Mary G. Sockriter, in 1991.
He is survived by his wife Carmen (Bradley) Sockriter; two daughters, Susan Donahue and her husband Jerry of Milton and Mary Ann Sockriter of Rehoboth Beach,; his son Charles L. Sockriter Jr. of Milton; two stepsons, David Shamblin of Lewes and Tony Shamblin of Elkton, Md.; two stepdaughters, Paula Shamblin also of Elkton, and Marti White and her husband Tom of Parkland, Fla.; eight grandchildren, Steven Donahue, Chase Sockriter, Thomas White, Zach White, Stefania Shamblin, Gage Shamblin, Chelsea Shamblin, and Olivia Shamblin; his sister, Adele Fluharty of Lewes; and his uncle, Rodney Green of Lewes.
Funeral services with the Rev. Mark Harris officiating will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, June 8, at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, Second and Market streets, Lewes.
Burial will follow at Conley’s Chapel cemetery , 22150 Robinsonville Road, near Angola.

Helen Krist,
retired food server
Helen Krist, 93, a resident of Georgetown since 2000, and formerly of Queens, NY, died Monday, June 4, 2007 at Harrison Senior Living in Georgetown, De.
She was born in New Britain, Conn., the daughter of the late Stanley and Wiktorja (Kurzynska) Krystynski.
She was a waitress for the American Glory and T-Bone Diner in Queens, N.Y. for 20 years, retiring in 1986.
She enjoyed socials with the other residents at the Cheer Apartments, and going to Atlantic City, N.J.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Schulze in 1967, her brother, Henry Krist and sister, Dorothy Schwbarker.
Survivors include her children, Victoria Schulze of Queens and William Schulze of Milton; a brother, Richard Krist of Vista, Calif.; two grandchildren, Dara Iori and Kimberly Ruiz, both of Queens. Services were private.

Elsie A. Harmon,

Elsie A. Harmon, 77, of Georgetown, died Saturday, June 2, 2007, at Harbor Healthcare, Lewes.
Elsie had worked as a housekeeper in Rehoboth for many years as well as working in the poultry industry.
She was a great loving grandmother, who loved to talk to people.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Alice Paynter Corsey; and a daughter, Yvonne Harmon, in 1973.
She is survived by her granddaughter, Tina Harmon of Delmar; her special friends, Charles and Edna Harmon of Millsboro; and a great-granddaughter, Nhiya Harmon.
Graveside Services will be at 2 p.m., Friday June 8, at the Harmony United Methodist Church cemetery , Millsboro, with the Rev. Carl Jackson officiating. Friends may call from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at Watson Funeral Home, 211 Washington Street, Millsboro.
Interment will be in Harmony United Methodist Church cemetery , Millsboro.

Sue Ella Evans Abbott,

Sue Ella Evans Abbott, 87, passed away Saturday, June 2, 2007, at the home of her son, Gerald L. Abbott and his wife, Judy in Georgetown, where she had resided for the past four years.
She was born June 29, 1919.
She was formerly of Water View, Va., and was a member of the Hermitage Baptist Church and the Upper Middlesex Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary.
She was predeceased by her husband, Samuel W. Abbott; and a son, Ralph W. “Buddy” Abbott.
In addition to her son and daughter-in-law, she is survived by another son, William Ernest Abbott of Norfolk, Va.; sister, Carrie Lee Mercer of Topping, Va.; brother, Joe Evans of Gloucester, Va.; and was the proud grandmother of seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held in Bristow-Faulkner Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Saluda, Va. Interment was in Hermitage Baptist Church cemetery

Wilhelmina H. Pittard,

Wilhelmina H. Pittard, 93, of Georgetown, passed away Sunday, June 3, 2007, at Milford Center.
Mrs. Pittard was born in Salem, Oh., daughter of the late Joseph Sr., and Anna Schwab Blair. She was raised in Eerie, Pa., and moved to the Georgetown area in 1947.
She was a cashier/clerk with Acme for many years, retiring several years ago. Mrs. Pittard served as a WAC during World War II.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Pittard is preceded in death by her husband, Lester H. Pittard in 1977; three brothers, Joe Blair Jr., William Blair and Robert Blair; and a sister, Marion Williams.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Lana and Isaiah Thomas Baker III; a grandson, Isaiah Thomas Baker IV, all of Georgetown; four sisters, Dorothy Williams of California, Gertrude Martin, Anne Meyn, and Shirley Marcinowski, all of Pennsylvania; and a brother, Mike Blair, also of Pennsylvania.
Services and burial will be private.

Herbert H. Jenkins,

Herbert H. Jenkins, 90, of West Chester, Pa., and Rehoboth Beach died Thursday, May 31, 2007.
He passed away peacefully at home in West Chester, where he lived with his daughter and caregiver, Linda J. Denenstein.
Herbert was the son of the late Harry H. Jenkins and Florence Evans Jenkins of Rehoboth Beach.
He was the beloved husband of the late Edna M. Fawley Jenkins who passed in January, 2005.
He was the loving father of H. Herbert III and his wife Sandy of Wilmington, and Millsboro, and Linda J. Denenstein, of West Chester, Pa. and Rehoboth Beach. He was the adoring grandfather of Bethany Jenkins-Bandy, of West Chester, Pa. and H. Herbert IV, of Millsboro; and cherished great-grandfather of Maddysen and Katharine Bandy, who was born on Herb’s 85th birthday.
The family would like to extend a special thank you for the wonderful care provided by both Dr. Helise Bichefsky, D.O. and Vitas Hospice.
Relatives and friends are invited to his graveside service at 1:15 p.m., Saturday,June 9, at Woodlawn Memorial Park, 25136 DuPont Blvd., Georgetown.

Lewis Samuels,

Lewis Samuels, 92, of Rehoboth Beach, passed away Tuesday, May 22, 2007, at Beebe Medical Center in Lewes.
He was born in Wilmington, son of the late Jake and Sara Fredelin Samuels.
Mr. Samuels attended the University of Miami. He entered the Rehoboth Beach Patrol in 1934 at the age of 21 years. He was an accomplished diver and swimmer. Mr. Samuels mostly guarded at Deauville Beach during the summers of 1934 to 1940.
He was a life member of the Rehoboth Beach Patrol and attended the 75th, 80th, and 85th reunions.
Mr. Samuels and his wife moved to the area more than 25 years ago. He had worked in the Purchasing Department for the DuPont Company for many years and traveled to various areas of the country for the company. He was a member of American Legion Post 28, Oak Orchard, and a member of Jefferson Masonic Lodge, Lewes. He served honorably in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
He is survived by his loving wife, Virginia Samuels of Rehoboth Beach; two nieces, Jean Viands and Doris Wissler; and one nephew, Jack Potts, all of Wilmington.
All services were private.

Mannie Oscar Harmon,

Mannie Oscar Harmon, 92, of Millsboro, died Friday, June 1, 2007, in Beebe Medical Center, Lewes.
Mr. Harmon was the son of the late David Wesley and Ella Harmon.
Mannie was a very hard worker, who loved his family. He was a devoted husband, and father. He was a retired farmer, who raised chickens, and worked as a saw mill operator. He was a member of the Israel United Methodist Church in Lewes.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Margaret M. Harmon, eight brothers and four sisters.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Delema Miller Harmon; his daughters, Marlene B. Harmon and her husband Conrad of Millsboro, Patricia E. Harmon and her husband Clinton of Millsboro; his grandchildren, Chad, Karen, Michele and Bryan; and three great-grandchildren, Justin, Jordon and Kyla.
Services will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, June 6, at Watson Funeral Home 211 Washington St. Millsboro, where friends may call one hour prior. Rev. Thomas A. Johnson will officiate. Interment will be in Israel United Methodist Church cemetery , Lewes.
