Dale Milton Workman,

Dale Milton Workman, 91, of Georgetown, died Friday, June 1, 2007, at Beebe Medical Center, Lewes.
In Dale’s earlier years he farmed and then became the owner and operator of Workman’s Store. He was lifetime member and deacon of the Mt. Olivet Brethren church in Georgetown. He was a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge since 1945. Dale was Grand Noble in 1949, 1966 and 1967, and he has held all offices within that lodge. He served on the Millsboro School Board as chairman for a time.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Verna M. Workman; his children, Rosalie Brewington, and Joyce Harrell of Georgetown, Janice LaPrad and her husband John of Georgetown and Karen Mumford and her husband Stephen of Millsboro; his sister Madeline Davis of Georgetown; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, June 5 in the Watson Funeral Home, 211 Washington St. Millsboro, where friends may call one hour prior. Pastor Jerry Fike will officiate. Interment will be in Millsboro cemetery . Millsboro.

Norman W. Cresmer,

Norman W. Cresmer Sr., 72, of Lewes, passed away Friday, June 1, 2007, at Beebe Medical Center in Lewes, surrounded by his children. He was born September 12, 1934, in Willistown, Pa., son of the late James W. and Anne Marie Grief Cresmer. Mr. Cresmer lived most of his life in Lewes. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy where he served as a medical corpsman, second class. Norm was a member of American Legion Post #17, and VFW Post #7447.
He was a certified diving instructor who taught many locals how to dive. He owned a dive shop in the Ocean View area for many years. He was the cornerstone of the diving industry in lower Delaware. He was involved in cleaning local waters and often auctioned items found to benefit the Leukemia Society.
In 1977, he graduated from Delaware Technical & Community College with a degree in nursing. He was one of the first male nurses to graduate from Delaware Tech. He went on to pursue a specialty in anesthesiology. Norm also practiced as a private duty nurse in the Washington, D.C. area.
He returned to lower Delaware to pursue a career in the printing industry, retiring in the early 1990’s. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Karen Lynn Stokesbury in 2001; and his sister, Marie McCafferty.
He is survived by a daughter, Bonnie Cresmer Brasure of Vancouver, Wash.; a son, Norman W. Cresmer Jr. and his wife Christine of Vancouver, Wash.; four grandchildren, Ashley, Brittany, Cassie and Matthew; and a brother, James W. Cresmer and his wife Peggy of Lewes.
A chapel service will be held at Delaware Veterans Memorial cemetery , 26669 Patriots Way, Millsboro, at 2 p.m., Wednesday, June 6. A celebration of Norm’s Life will be held from 5 to 7 p.m., Friday, June 8, at American Legion Post 17, American Legion Road, Lewes. Arrangements are being handled by Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, Lewes.Tthe family suggests contributions be made to American Legion Post #17.
Anna T. Pilkington,
retired bank employee
Anna T. Pilkington, 79, of Millsboro, passed away Saturday, June 2, 2007 at Beebe Medical Center in Lewes.
Mrs. Pilkington was born in Chester, Pa., Oct. 25, 1927, daughter of the late Harry W. and Mary Chandler Tranor.
She was a retired bank employee for Wachovia Bank. Mrs. Pilkington was a member of the Long Neck United Methodist Church, Unity chapter #16 Order of the Easter Star of Rehoboth Beach, the Penn Forest #21 Ladies Auxilary TCL in Chester, Pa., American Legion Post #28 Auxiliary and the United Methodist Women. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Thomas B. Pilkington in 2001.
She is survived by her son Ward E. Gray and his wife Nancy of Millsboro; and two grandchildren, Matthew T. Gray and John T. Gray.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., Thursday, June 7, at the Long Neck Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, Long Neck Rd., Millsboro, where friends and family may call Wednesday, June 6, from 6-8 p.m. Burial will be held at Henlopen Memorial Park in Milton.
Arthur Wesley Shepherd,
retired from DuPont
Arthur Wesley Shepherd, 63, formerly of Seaford, passed away Wednesday, May 30, 2007, after a short battle with cancer, at Baybreeze Nursing & Retirement Center, Gulf Breeze, Fla.
Mr. Shepherd was a son of the late Wesley and Margaret Shepherd of Milton.
After retiring from the Dupont nylon plant in Seaford, he enjoyed spending his days gardening, swimming and fishing.
Mr. Shepherd was a member of and emergency medical technician for the Blades Volunteer Fire Department, as well as a member of the Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Seaford.
After moving to Florida, he became an active member of the St. Sylvester Catholic Church, Gulf Breeze, and continued to indulge in his love of the outdoors.
Mr. Shepherd is survived by two daughters, Sharon Marie and Susan Renee, both of Laurel; a grandson, Joshua Adam of Millsboro; a sister, Joyce M. Dorris of Florida; a brother, John T. Shepherd of Pennsylvania; three nieces, Michele D. Webb of Georgetown, Melissa L. Greene of Maryland and Mia R. Wright of Milford; his wife of 30 years, Patricia A. Shepherd of Gulf Breeze; three stepchildren, Debbie Morris of Bridgeville, Allen McIlvain of Dover and Doug McIlvain of Georgetown; and seven step-grandchildren, Jennifer, Brandy, Katie, Jonathan, Shavon, Jackie and Bryan.
A memorial service will be 7 p.m. Wednesday in the Blades Fire Department. Father John of Our Lady of Lourdes will officiate.

Constance A. Ellingsworth,

Constance A. Ellingsworth, 70, of Millsboro, died Friday, June 1, 2007, in Green Valley Terrace, Millsboro.
Mrs. Ellingsworth was a wonderful sister and loving mother, and will be deeply missed.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Willard E. Sr. and Gladys (Tilghman) Tull; her husband, Martin Elijah Ellingsworth, in 1980; and a sister, Peggy Hill, in 2003.
Mrs. Ellingsworth is survived by her children, Robert L. Buzzard of Ocean City, Md., Martin L. Ellingsworth of Millsboro, Rosemary A. Pruitt of Bridgeville and Carolyn Cuffie of Millsboro; her brothers, Winfred P. Tull of Salisbury, Md., and Willard E. Tull Jr. of Newark; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday in Dagsboro Redmen’s Memorial cemetery . A viewing will be from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in Watson Funeral Home, 211 Washington St., Millsboro.

Sally-Jo Moore L’Hommedieu passed away May 29, 2007 in Richmond, Va. S
Mrs. L’Hommedieu was born in Cleveland, Ohio on March 30, 1938.
She lived several years in Washington, D.C., before moving to Richmond after the death of her husband, Samuel L’Hommedieu. Her summers were spent in Rehoboth Beach.

Kenneth C. Gilbert,

Kenneth C. Gilbert, 84, of Rehoboth Beach, died Thursday, May 31, 2007, at Lewes Convalescent Center in Lewes.
Mr. Gilbert was born in Park Ridge, N.J. He received a bachelor of science degree from Rutgers University in New Brunswick, N.J. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army Air Corps in the China-Burma-India theatre. Following his military service, he was employed doing research in pharmacology and nutrition, and did graduate study in food science, leading to a career in various technical sales positions. He retired as sales manager of the Mid-Atlantic Pharmaceutical Division of Bristol-Myers Squibb. Ken was active in the Lutheran Church of Our Savior, and the Cape Henlopen Senior Center, both in Rehoboth Beach.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 40 years, Thelma Strom Gilbert.
Ken is survived by two sons and their families, Don and Beth Gilbert of Milford, the parents of Kenneth and Carolyn; and Arthur and Martha Gilbert of Ellicott City, Md., the parents of Paul and Alan Gilbert. His subsequent marriage to the late Irene Wallgren Gilbert was spent in Alexandria, Va. They moved at retirement to Rehoboth Beach in 1998. Survivors include two stepsons, Thomas and Kenneth Backer and their families, including three grandchildren and five great grandchildren. After Irene’s death, he delighted in finding the companionship of Barbara Morris of Rehoboth Beach.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, June 9, at the Lutheran Church of Our Savior, Rehoboth Beach.

Edith M. Garrison,

Edith M. Garrison, 90, of Frankford passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 29, 2007, in her home, surrounded by family members.
She was born on Oct. 8, 1916, in Accomack County, Va., the third of 13 children to the late Hobb and Elnora Garrison.
Ms. Garrison was a member of The Apostolic Faith Church of Jesus Christ the Lord, Inc., Millsboro, where she was called “Mother Drummond” by all of the church members.
She retired from the industrial industry when she was at the age of 62.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Willie H. Slade; second husband, Fred D. Drummond; and her eldest child, Willie F. Slade, of Louisville, Ky., who passed away Feb. 6, 2007; five sisters, Ruth I. Garrison, Mabel N. Garrison, Annie E. Garrison, Margaret Garrison and Mary J. White; and six brothers, Cecyl L. Garrison, Ernest L. Garrison, Louis A. Garrison, Edward L Garrison, Milton Garrison and Hobb Garrison Jr.
Ms. Garrison is survived by a brother, Leroy Garrison, of Neptune, N.J.; six daughters, Edith Wescott of Dover, Phillis Thomas of Dover, Sheila Slade of Frankford, Wynita Slade of Georgetown, Lovey Godwin and her husband, Woodrow of Millsboro, and Sabara Brady and her husband, James of Felton; one son, Fred Slade of Dover; 22 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; 14 great-great-grandchildren, and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews.
Services were held on Sunday at 1 p.m. at The Apostolic Faith Church of Jesus Christ the Lord, Inc., Millsboro, with burial in Zoars-Golden Acres Memorial cemetery , Bishopville, Md.

Earl Martin Street,
retired state worker
Earl Martin Street, 99, of Millsboro, departed this life at 4 a.m., Sunday, May 27, 2007, at the home of his daughter, after a short illness.
He was born Jan.2, 1908, in Millsboro, just down the road from his home known as the Short Farm House, to the late Gardner and Hester Norwood Street.
Earl was educated at the Harmon School. At an early age, Earl devoted his time working with his father.
Earl later left Delaware and moved to Philadelphia, and later to Camden, N.J, with his family. In 1925 he moved to Allentown, Pa., and married Algetha Boyer Street. Out of this union they had Ronald and Gail.
Earl said the best thing that happened to him was joining the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Allentown in 1945.
In 1948 Earl returned to Millsboro to be caregiver to his father. He was employed by the State of Delaware Highway Department and retired at age 62.
After his retirement, he and his wife ministered to many families who had lost many loved ones.
After the death of his wife he became the neighborhood fox to many women.
He was a devoted and loyal member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church and served in many capacities.
Earl’s pride and joy in life was his daughter Gail. In his eyes she never did any wrong.
Earl will truly be missed, not only by family but by his many friends and extended family.
His love of life and helping people in general will long be remembered. He was always willing to help others and did that task with a smile.
He is survived by his devoted daughter, Gail McCall of Millsboro; son, Ronald LeVan of Allentown; grandchildren, Richard, Shasonya, Craig, Claudette, Paulette and Natasha; and 18 additional grandchildren and two great-grandchildren and his puppy, Snow Ball.
Services were held at Seventh Day Adventist Church in Millsboro, with burial in the church cemetery.

Pauline E. Timmons, 88, of Millsboro, died Wednesday, May 30, 2007, at Green Valley Terrace Millsboro.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Helen Dickerson Truitt; a son, Charles Timmons; a sister, Florence Timmons and a brother, Lester Truitt.
She is survived by her husband of more than 60 years, Samuel E. Timmons; a son, Ronald Timmons of Seattle Wash.; daughters Constance Rogers and husband George of Georgetown and Jeni Coffelt, of Millsboro; brothers John Truitt of Kissimmee Fla., Warren Truitt of Milford, and Bruce Truitt of Seaford; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Pauline was a member of Zoar United Methodist Church in Millsboro and also a member of the New Life in Christ Church in Palm City, Fla. She had been a private secretary to O.A Newton of Bridgeville and co-owner of Sam’s Restaurant for more than 35 years.
She was a devoted and avid Christian and prayer warrior. She was a member of the Presidential Prayer Team. She was concerned for all and a true friend. She and Sam vacationed regularly in Florida for many years.
Services will be at 2 p.m., Sunday, June 3, at Watson Funeral Home, 211 Washington St. Millsboro, here friends may call at noon. The Rev. Dr. Ed Wilkins and Pastor Wayne Parsons will officiate. Burial will be private.
