Patricia Ann Smith, 55, died Saturday, Oct. 16, 2004, at her home near Georgetown.
She was born Nov. 22, 1948, in Milford, the daughter of the late Carlton E. and Elizabeth Carpenter Mitchell.
Mrs. Smith was a registered nurse working for Beebe Medical Center in Lewes for the past 34 years. She started as a staff nurse and worked her way up to the position of patient care coordinator.
She previously attended the Milton Wesleyan Church in Milton. She was an alumnae of the Beebe Nursing School, member of the Orthopedic Nurses Association, faithful contributor to the Beebe Medical Center’s Vision 2005 campaign, past member of the Georgetown Little League, and present member of the Millsboro Little League where she served as a volunteer.
She is survived by her husband of 35 years, Robert N. Smith; three children, Robert N. Smith II and his wife Sandi of Rehoboth Beach, Lori S. Bishop and her husband Rick of Greensboro, Md., and Christopher E. Smith and his wife Leighann of Millsboro; Donna Baker of Millsboro, a very close friend who was like a sister; six grandchildren, Alex, Morgan, Emily, Trey, Carter and Lilly; and two step grandchildren, Garrett and Chandley.
Memorial services will be at 5 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 21, at the Watson Funeral Home, 211 Washington St., Millsboro, where friends may call one hour before the service.
Chaplain Larry Lilly will officiate. Burial will be private.

Joyce Arden Moore,
devoted to family
Joyce Arden Moore, 79, a lifelong resident of Rehoboth Beach, died Sunday, Oct. 17, 2004, at home after a courageous three year battle with cancer.
Joyce was the youngest of five children born to Ralph and Myrtle Wingate. Ralph was elected mayor of Rehoboth Beach in 1927 and again in 1929. She devoted her life to her family, raising two children, serving as primary caretaker to her mother in later years and providing assistance to other family members during times of need. She received her strength from her family and was happiest when she could be helpful to others.
She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Loren; a son and daughter-in-law, Kevin and Marion Moore of Lewes; a son, Shawn Moore and his companion, Ruth, of Rehoboth Beach; a grandson, Shawn; a brother, Jay Wingate of Rehoboth Beach; a sister, Shirley Lipp of Gaithersburg, Md.; and many nieces and nephews.
A private graveside service will be held at Epworth cemetery
in Rehoboth Beach. The family suggests contributions to Delaware Hospice, 600 N. DuPont Hwy., Suite 107, Georgetown DE 19947, who provided her with such loving care.
Helen Downs Morris,

Helen Downs Morris, 79, of rural Lewes passed away Wednesday, Oct, 13, 2004, at her residence. She was born in Lewes, March 15, 1925, to the late Sidney L. and Mary McGee Downs, native Sussex Countians.
Helen graduated from Lewes High School, Class of 1943. She was employed as a civilian with Post Engineers, Fort Miles.
Helen married John W. “Jack” Morris in 1950. They owned and operated Jack’s Trailer Park on the site of Rehoboth Mall from mid-1950s until the mid 1980s. Helen was baptized in Groome United Methodist Church as an infant and she remained faithful in attendance and service to the church until her recent illness. She taught Sunday school for many years and was the communion steward for 30 years.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Morris was preceded in death by her daughter, April Beauchamp; and her brother Sidney L. Downs, Jr.
In addition to her husband, Jack, she is survived by her daughter Patricia Morris; and her sister Hazel D. Brittingham, all of Lewes. She also leaves behind two grandchildren Shelly Beauchamp of Brigantine, N.J., and John Beauchamp of Lewes; her former son-in-law Gary Price of Lewes; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Oct. 15, at 4 p.m., at Parsell Funeral Homes, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes. Friends may call one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Bethel Methodist cemetery , Lewes, in the company of her parents and paternal grandparents and great-grandparents, the latter being the first Sidney L. Downs born in 1839.

Helen M.B. McWhorter,

Helen Morehead Ball McWhorter, 100, of Wilmington and Rehoboth Beach, died Wednesday, Oct. 13, 2004 in Lewes Convalescent Center.
She was born on May 17, 1904 in Wilmington, the daughter of the late James and Ada Cornelia Elliott Ball. Her father was a 47-year veteran conductor for the Pennsylvania Railroad; her mother was a dress maker and milliner.
Mrs. McWhorter was a graduate of Wilmington High School. She was employed by Wilmington Trust Company in Wilmington prior to her marriage to Harold Meeds McWhorter in 1934. During her middle years, she returned to work for the National Association of Infantile Paralysis and in her later years, she worked for the Division of Aging and enjoyed part-time work with Strawbridge and Clothier. In her late seventies, she became an artist. Her lighthouses were notable.
She is survived by her daughter, Pastor Maxine McWhorter Ungerbuehler and her husband Charles M. Ungerbuehler; two granddaughters, Bette Brice Brasure and her husband Darrell, and Cheryl Brice Moore and her husband Bruce Holland; and a grandson, Shane Meeds Brice and his wife Saliecha; three great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be 11 a.m., Friday, Oct. 15, at the Christ Episcopal Church cemetery , Second and Church Street, Milford. Contributions are suggested to Casa San Francisco, 127 Broad Street, Milton, DE 19968.

Gordon Roy Davis, 55, of Lewes, died Monday, Oct. 11, 2004, at his residence.
Mr. Davis was born in Keene, N.H., the son of Leonard Davis and Velma “LaBelle” Davis of Richmond, NH.
Gordon was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Seaford. He was also a member of the Rehoboth Beach Volunteer Fire Company since retiring to Delaware in 2000. Prior to that, he served as a member of the District of Columbia Fire Department for almost 15 years, and with the Myrtle Beach Fire & Rescue Squad from 1980 to 1985.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Davis is survived by his wife Kathleen Eva “Clark” Davis; five daughters, Tracey Davis, Tammy Kelley, Deanna Bryson, Kathryn Wharton, and Sherry Davis; three sons, Matthew Davis, Brandon Davis, and William Clark; two sisters, Wendy Payne and Lynn Adams; two brothers, Gary Davis, and Joseph Davis; and 25 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Theresa Davis, and his son, Michael Davis.
Arrangements are being handled by Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, DE, where the family will receive friends from 10:30 to 11 a.m., Friday, Oct. 15. A funeral service will be held at the Atkins-Lodge Chapel at 11 a.m. Friday, with Bishop Dan Ballard officiating. Interment will be at Epworth Methodist cemetery
in Rehoboth Beach.

Robert “Bob” A. Palko, 59, of Rehoboth Beach, died Friday, Oct. 8, 2004, at Beebe Medical Center in Lewes.
Mr. Palko was born Dec. 5, 1944 in Pottsville, Pa. He was the son of the late Joseph Palko and the late Mary Palko.
He is survived by his companion of 31 years, William B. Richardson of Rehoboth Beach; one sister, Mary Yasenbousky of Yardley, Pa.; and one brother, Bernard Palko of Matarie, La.
Services and burial were private.

Donald Calder McKaskill, 72, of Millsboro, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family Tuesday, Oct. 12, 2004, at Beebe Medical Center.
Don McKaskill was a loving husband, adored father and cherished grandfather known as Pappy. He served his country in the Air Force and was a veteran of the Korean War. He retired from Bechtel Corporation as a piping superintendent.
Don is survived by his wife of 42 years, Suzanne; three daughters, Suzy, Mia and Jaime McKaskill; three grandchildren, Marisa, Zane and Matthew; a sister, Calder Degner and her husband Gerald of Fallon, N.V.; brothers-in-law, Donnie Nolan of Phoenix, Az., Jimmy Nolan of Ravena, N.Y. and their families; sisters-in-law, Michele Westfield and Nanette Bomba and their families of Pennsville, N.J. and their families; son-in-law, Stevan Sheek; and adopted daughter Lisa Yamakawa.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 16, at Melson Funeral Services, Long Neck Road. Burial will be private.

Donald L. Richter, 83, of Millsboro, died Thursday, Oct. 7, 2004, at home surrounded by his family.
He was a graduate of Iowa State University and a member of the Alpha Theta Omega fraternity. He was a veteran of World War II, serving as a U.S. Army captain in the signal corps. He worked as a record manager for RCA Victor. He was an avid wood carver and his favorite subject was the American eagle. In his retirement, he enjoyed boating and playing golf and was a past commodore of the Indian River Yacht Club. He was a member of the Lutheran Church of Our Savior in Rehoboth Beach, AARP, the Rehoboth Art League and the Audio Engineering Society.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Caroline Richter; two children, Gretchen Pippin and her husband Chris of Millsboro, and Kyle Richter of Ellicott City, Md.; two brothers, Roger Richter of Laguna Woods, Calif.; and Howard Richter of Murrieta, Calif.; and a grandson, Nicholas Pippin of Millsboro.
A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m., Wednesday, in the Lutheran Church of Our Savior, 7 Bay Vista Road, Rehoboth Beach. Burial will be private.

Wallace S. Brohawn Sr., 83, of Wilmington, died Wednesday, Oct. 6, 2004.
Mr. Brohawn was a member of Pipefitters Local 74 for 48 years. He served in the U.S. Army as a member of the 82nd Airborne Division during World War II.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Lillian Brohawn; his sons, Wallace Jr. and his wife Rose, Terry and his wife, Linda, all of Newark; Michael and his wife Paula, of Wilmington; his daughter, Deborah Winder and her husband Charles of Newark; his son David, of Wilmington; his brother, Howard “Turk” Brohawn of Rehoboth Beach; his sister, Rosalie Hill of Lewes; his grandchildren, Steven, Jeffrey, Lesley, Shawn, Lauren, Stephanie, Darren and Devyn; and his great-granddaughter, Jordan.

Sarah Ann Turpin,

Sarah Ann Turpin, 98, of Denton, Md., died Tuesday, Oct. 5, 2004, in Ruxton Nursing Center, Denton.
Mrs. Turpin grew up and spent her entire life in Denton, as well as spending many summers in Rehoboth Beach. She treasured the many friends she made in Delaware over the years. She was a homemaker and a housekeeper for the Lynam and Anna M. Lynch families. She was a member of Bells Chapel AME Church, where she was in the missionary society and was a stewardess emeritus.
She was preceded in death by her husband, J. Howard Turpin, in 1955, and a son-in-law, Clarence B. Steward, on Aug. 7, 2004.
She is survived by two daughters, Hilda Wilson of Denton and Pauline T. Stewart of Lewes; a sister, Martha Coursey of Denton; eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Services were held in Bells Chapel AME Church, Denton, with burial in Spring Grove cemetery , Denton.
Pauline R. Thompson,

Pauline Reed Thompson, 83, of Lewes, died Thursday, Oct. 7, 2004.
Mrs. Thompson was born Aug. 9, 1921 in Elk Mills, Md., the daughter of the late Howard and Hilda Kay Reed. She was raised in Newark and graduated from Newark High School.
Mrs. Thompson was a graduate of Memorial School of Nursing in Wilmington, where she graduated with honors. She worked in the emergency room, in pediatrics and as head operating room nurse. She was also a private duty nurse for the du Pont families and Frank W. Diver and his family. She nursed soldiers who came home from war and was referred to by them as their “angel of mercy.”
She raised her children in Wilmington and retired in 1975 to Lewes. She was an active member of Baldwin United Methodist Church, Elk Mills, Md., Cedar Crest United Methodist in Wilmington and the United Methodist Church, Ocean City, Md., where she spent summers at her beach house on First and Philadelphia streets.
She was preceded in death by her firstborn son, William Howard Thompson; a granddaughter, Ginger L. Bliler; and William O. Thompson Sr.
She is survived by her children, Kay M. Thompson of Clayton; William O. Thompson Jr. of Wilmington; Anne P. Kabino of Middletown; Lynn Ellen Bliler of Dover; Hope Thompson Mitchell of Lewes; and Thomas Nelson Thompson of Rehoboth Beach; 15 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Private services were held at Cherry Hill United Methodist Church, Cherry Hill, Md., with burial in Cherry Hill Methodist cemetery.

Richard Everhart, 90, of Gettysburg, Pa., died Saturday, Oct. 9, 2004, at The Gettysburg Lutheran Retirement Village.
Mr. Everhart was a member of St. James Lutheran Church in Gettysburg where he sang in the church choir for many years. A veteran of WWII serving with the U.S. Army in the South Pacific, Mr. Everhart later worked as an artist with the U.S. Department of Defense in Washington, D.C., from 1946 until his retirement in 1973. Mr. Everhart is survived by his second wife, Susan Wentz Everhart; his first wife, the late Jean Spangler Everhart, died in 1989. He is also survived by a sister, Rachel E. Wolff of Gettysburg; a brother, Bill C. Everhart of Reston, Va.; and a number of nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Philip R. Everhart.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 12, at St. James Lutheran Church with the Rev. Michael A. Allwein officiating. Burial will be private.
