Marianne D. Schulze, 60, of Lewes, and formerly of Boston and Philadelphia, passed away Thursday, July 12, 2007, in Beebe Medical Center, Lewes.
She was born Aug. 12, 1946, in Philadelphia, daughter of the late John R. and Anne T. Halligan Davis.
Mrs. Schulze moved to Delaware 10 years ago.
She was very active with the St. Vincent de Paul Society. She was an avid reader who was especially well versed in European and American history. She enjoyed international travel and spending time with her family, especially her son and granddaughter.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Paul Schueller.
She is survived by her husband of 38 years, Louis N. Schulze; a son, Louis N. Schulze Jr. and his wife Rebekah of Boston; a granddaughter, Anne Halligan; four brothers, John Davis and his wife Patricia, Michael Davis, Thomas Davis and his wife Heidi and Joseph Davis and his wife Barbara; two sisters, Teresa Carl and her husband Joseph and Frances Schueller; and many beloved brothers and sisters-in-law, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Services were held in Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, Highway, Lewes, with burial private.

Robert C. Carter,
CHEER employee
Robert C. “Bobby” Carter, 82, of Millsboro, died Tuesday, July 10, 2007, in Christiana Hospital.
Mr. Carter worked for the CHEER Center of Georgetown and Laurel.
He was preceded in death by his son, Lamont Davis.
He is survived by his friend and companion, Catherine Davis, with whom he lived in Millsboro; a son, Asa O. Davis of Georgetown; his stepchildren, Willie Davis of Millsboro, Antonio Davis of Laurel, Sherida Davis of Georgetown, Tina Davis of Salisbury and Melinda Davis of Laurel; two grandchildren; and 11 stepgrandchildren.
Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, July 17, in Bennie Smith Funeral Home in Millsboro.
Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 18, in the funeral home.
Burial will be in Zoar Golden Acres cemetery
in Bishopville, Md.

Thomas Paul Ridgaway,

Thomas Paul Ridgaway, 34, of Millsboro, died suddenly Tuesday, July 10, 2007, in Beebe Medical Center, Lewes.
Tom was born in Coatesville, Pa., the son of Connie Schafer and the late Paul Ridgaway. He was a graduate of Sussex Central High School in Georgetown. He was one of the first to become a nationally registered EMT-B in Delaware before it became a law. He worked at the Sussex County Communications Center in Georgetown as a dispatcher for the Delaware State Police before retiring on disability in 2000. He also worked as a dispatcher for Rehoboth Beach Police, Fire and Ambulance. He worked as a paid EMT for Millsboro VFW Station 94 and Millsboro Fire Company, Station 83 as well as with LifeStar Ambulance.
Tommy had volunteered for Georgetown American Legion Ambulance, Station 93, Millsboro Fire Company, Station 83 and Mid-Sussex Rescue Squad, Station 91. He was an instructor of CPR/AED for the American Heart Association and taught for Kent General EMS Educational Services as well as the Delaware State Fire School. He also assisted the Boy Scouts in first aid on camping trips and other activities. Tom was a specially gifted person who was always there to listen and give support. He could make one laugh and truly touched many lives in his lifetime. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his father, Paul Ridgaway and grandmother, Martha Ridgaway.
He is survived by his wife of 10 years, January Ridgaway, two sons, Steven Michael Ridgaway and Daniel Scott Paul Ridgaway, at home; mother and stepfather Connie and Richard Schafer; paternal grandfather, Paul S. Ridgaway; paternal stepgrandfather, Robert Mendenhall; two sisters, Kimberly Schafer-Newcomer and her husband Mark and Sara N. Schafer; a brother, Richard C. Schafer; four stepbrothers, Robert L. Schafer and his wife Jackie, Stacey L. Schafer and his wife Angie, Travis L. Schafer and his wife Laura and Matthew L. Schafer; three special aunts, Robin Ridgaway and her fiancé Joseph Lisinski, Mary Joe Foust and Martha Ann Pedicone; two uncles, Charles R. Johnson and Allen W. Ridgaway; mother-in-law, Cindy Gommer; two sisters-in-law, Sherry L. Derr and her husband Craig and Tina M. Gommer and her fiancee John Koperna; a brother-in-law Richard Gommer; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of life was held at the Lofland Funeral Home, Milford, with burial private.

Arletria Gibbs-Bowden,

Arletria “Letria” Denise Gibbs Bowden, 40, of Seaford, passed from this life to her heavenly home on Tuesday, July 10, 2007, at her residence, after a brief illness.
“Leet,” or “Letria,” as she was affectionately called, was the beautiful daughter of Gracelyn Gibbs and the late Fred Lee Fonville. She was a graduate of Sussex Central High School, class of 1985.
Prior to her illness she worked in private nursing homes in Delaware and Maryland as a licensed nursing assistant.
Arletria was a member of St. John’s 2nd Baptist Church, Millsboro.
She liked watching and going to the movies, she enjoyed being around people, amusement parks, and rides at amusement parks, and she truly excelled in shopping. Above all else, she loved being a newlywed as she and her husband were united in holy matrimony for one-and-a-half years prior to her home-going.
Arletria was an individual who strived to spread love and compassion throughout her family. Family togetherness was her motto.
She was preceded in death by her favorite cousin, who was her “bosom buddy,” Jarmell Weston.
She is survived by her husband, Barry Lee, whom she and she alone referred to as “Boot,” of Seaford; two sons, Trevor Gibbs of Millsboro and Allan P. White Jr. of Seaford; her mother, Gracelyn Gibbs of Seaford; three stepchildren, Danae Person, Marissa Person of Wilmington, and Jasmine Rokos of Rehoboth Beach; two sisters, Natalie “Laverne” Meeks and husband Frank of Seaford and Navonda Farrow and husband Pornell of Millsboro; five brothers, Timothy Midgett and his wife Janelle of Durham, N.C., Oliver Gibbs and his wife Geraldine of Millsboro, Freddie Fonville and his wife Deanna of Millsboro, Andre Fonville of Lewes, and Melvin White of Millsboro; her maternal grandfather, Keith Benson of Engelhard, N.C.; her father-in-law, William Bowden; her mother-in-law, Valerie Bowden of Millsboro; 10 uncles, Henry Weston, Walter Weston, Carlton Weston and his wife Rhoda, Dennis Benson, Keith Benson Jr., Gary Benson, Prentis Benson, Kim Benson, Everett Tull, and William Earl Gibbs and his wife Rose of Kileen, Texas; seven aunts, Nancy Weston and her husband Everett, Iris Weston, Sondra Weston, Northern Gibbs, Elaine Graves of Hampton, Va., Merlene Jones of Greenville, N.C., and Betty Gibbs of Hampton, Va.; her best friend, Wanda Peterson and her husband, Jimmy of Millsboro; special friend Jack “Pop” Jarman of Delmar, Md.; a host of other family and friends.
It was Arletria’s desire to list two other survivors; they are her dolls who were her comfort and confidants, her Baby Alive, Barrianna, and her Mickey Mouse doll.
Funeral services were held in St. Johns 2nd Baptist, Mount Joy, with burial in the Mount Joy cemetery.
Rosanna C. Hoffman,
former Lewes resident
Rosanna C. Hoffman, of Herndon, Va., formerly of Lewes, died Friday, June 15, 2007, at her daughter’s home in Herndon.
She was born Oct. 17, 1927. She worked as a nurse in Washington, D.C., for many years before moving to the Lewes area, where she was involved in activities at St. Jude’s and St. Edmond’s churches.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edmund J. Hoffman, in 1999. Survivors include her daughter, Cathy Mahoney; and a granddaughter, Chelsea Mahoney, both of Herndon.
Services were held in Virginia.
Henry J. Wisniewski,
Westinghouse machinist
Henry J. Wisniewski, 82, of Rehoboth Beach, formerly of Media, Pa., died Wednesday, July 11, 2007, at home.
Born and raised in Chester, Pa., Mr. Wisniewski attended Chester High School. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a gunner’s mate 2nd class. He served aboard the SS. Fort Niagara, SS. Tosari, SS. Eleazor Lord, SS. John W. Garrett, SS. Samuel Mitchell and the SS. Donald M. Dickinson. He received the European Theater, Pacific Theater and American Theater ribbons and the Victory Medal. His service travels took him to Australia, Scotland, India and the Persian Gulf.
Mr. Wisniewski worked for 44 years as a machinist at Westinghouse Corp. He was a member of the American Legion Post 87 in Lenni, Glenn Mills, Pa., where he served as commander and treasurer. He enjoyed fishing in the Delaware Bay, gardening, woodworking, baking and cooking Polish food.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Louise C. Wisniewski, in 1996. Survivors include two daughters, Sandra Wisniewski of Rehoboth Beach and Donna Kravitz and her husband James Kravitz Jr. of Glen Mills, Pa.; a son, John Wisniewski and his wife Linda of Havertown, Pa.; a sister, Edna Cochran of Cheyney, Pa.; and four grandchildren.
Services were held Monday, July 16, at the Rigby Harting & Hagan Funeral Home in Media. Interment was in Media cemetery . Contributions in his memory may be made to Delaware Hospice, 20167 Office Circle, Georgetown, DE 19947.
Ashley Lynn Marshall,

Ashley Lynn Marshall, 19, of Rehoboth Beach, died Friday, July 13, 2007.
Ashley was born in Stratford, N. J. on May 3, 1988, daughter of Douglas Marshall and Denise Fishburn Subrick.
She was a 2006 graduate of Cape Henlopen High School, Lewes. Ashley had been employed as a waitress in Rehoboth Beach. She loved animals.
In addition to her parents, she was survived by her sister, Alia Marshall; and brother, A.J. Marshall, both of Rehoboth Beach; her stepfather Michael Subrick; and stepmother, Mary Marshall, both of Rehoboth Beach; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, July 19, at St. Jude The Apostle Catholic Church, Route 1 at Five Points, with Father Jim Hreha officiating.
Friends may call at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., Thursday, July 19. Interment will be private at Henlopen Memorial Park, Milton.

James D. Gruver,

James D. Gruver, 60, of Lewes, died suddenly Saturday, July 14, 2007, at his residence.
He was born February 12, 1947, in Pottsville, Pa., son of the late John and Anna Beneck Gruver.
Mr. Gruver was currently employed by the Cape Henlopen School District as an algebra teacher at the Ninth Grade Academy.
He was also an adjunct professor at Wilmington College. He was a member of the Henlopen Ruritan Club and a trustee of the Swope Foundation.
He is survived by his wife, Susan R. Gruver; two daughters, Laura Baker and her husband William of West Grove, Pa. and Lisa Sidorakis and her husband John of Baldwinsville, N.Y.; nine grandchildren; seven brothers; one sister; numerous nieces and nephews; and his mother and father-in-law, Luther and Grace Schoffstall of Lewes.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m., Wednesday, July 18, at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, where friends may call two hours before the service.
Interment will be private.

Mary Lou Revel,

Mary Lou Revel, 72, died Wednesday, July 11, 2007 at the Green Valley Terrace Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Millsboro.
Mary Lou loved to cook and work in her garden. She was a retired receptionist from Mid-Sussex Medical Center.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Alton P. and Edna Lawson Timmons; her husband, Kenneth Revel who died in 1999; and her son Michael Revel who passed away in 1997.
Survivors include a daughter, Tammy Hitchens and her husband Jimmy of Millsboro; a brother, Jerry Revel of Salisbury, Md.; a sister, Colleen Hearn of Bishopville, Md.; and a granddaughter, Mera Leigh Hitchens.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 14, at the Watson Funeral Home at 211 Washington St. in Millsboro where friends may call one hour earlier.
Burial will be in Carey’s cemetery , Millsboro.

Barbara Ann “Bobbie” Shanefelter, 67, of Millsboro, and formerly of Finksburg, Md., died Tuesday July 10, 2007 at the Lewes Convalescent Center.
Born June 17, 1940, in Baltimore, Md., she was the daughter of the late Howard Counselman and Betty Hildreth Bage Counselman.
She was the loving wife of 50 years to Irvin R. Shanefelter Sr.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by two sons, Robert W. and Michael W. Shanefelter of Millsboro; two sisters, Joan Carpenter and Patricia Bond; and two brothers, Ronald and Richard Counselman. She is also survived by three grandchildren.
She was predeceased by a son, Irvin R. Shanefelter Jr. in 1990.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, July 14, at the Eckhardt Funeral Chapel, 11605 Reisterstown Road, Owings Mills, Md., where friends may call Friday, July 13, 3-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. The Rev. Jeffrey Corson will officiate. Interment will be in Evergreen Memorial Gardens.

Elizabeth “Betty” Pezone, 92, formerly of New Castle, Pa., died peacefully Sunday, July 8, 2007, at Harbor Healthcare, Lewes.
She was born Oct. 2, 1914, in New Castle, the daughter of the late Louis and Rose Fair Bosco. Her husband Albert preceded her in death in 1988 after 50 years of marriage.
She loved her family and was a wonderful homemaker and an excellent saleswoman. She loved to play cards and was a member of two ladies clubs while in New Castle. During her five-year stay at Harbor Healthcare she had a special attachment to the aides and nurses who cared for her.
She is survived by three sisters; and preceded in death by her brother. She is survived by her two sons, Albert and his wife Pam and Anthony and his wife Judi. Also surviving are six loving grandchildren, Denine Woodrow and husband Chris, Betsy Gibb and husband David, Albert Pezone and wife Connie, Kristen Pezone and husband Greg Kapp, Michael Pezone and Elizabeth Pezone; and also four great-grandsons, David and Thomas Gibb and Zackary and Oliver Pezone.
Viewing will be 6-8 p.m., Friday, July 13, in New Castle, at the Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at St. Camillus Church, 314 Englewood Ave., New Castle, at 10 a.m., Saturday, July 14.
