Alice Fleming,

Alice (Spoerl) Fleming, age 86, of Lewes, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2007, at Harbor Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center in Lewes. Mrs. Fleming was born June 26, 1921 in Wilmington, daughter of the late Carl W. and Kathryn C. (Douglas) Spoerl.
Mrs. Fleming moved 25 years ago to Sussex County from New Castle.
She was a member and volunteer at Harbor Lights. Mrs. Fleming resided at Hulling Cove prior to moving to Harbor Healthcare in March.
She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William A. Fleming (1993); her brother George Spoerl; and her sister, Rose Springer.
She is survived by her daughter, Linda M. Keller and her husband Jeff of Ellendale; her son, William Fleming of Florida; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; four sisters, Marion Biddle of Middletown, Margaret Dorsey of Bear, Kathryn Rossi of Elsmere and Elizabeth Seery of Wilmington; and one brother, Paul “Buddy” Spoerl and his wife Bobbie of New Castle.
All arrangements are private.

Evelyn M. Metzler,

Evelyn M. Metzler, 89, of Lewes, formerly of Rehoboth Beach, passed away Saturday, Aug. 11, 2007, at the Harbor Healthcare Center in Lewes.
She was born in Philadelphia, Pa., daughter of the late Ralph and Ida Mae Smith Nungesser.
Evelyn enjoyed playing Bingo, and loved to drive down to the beach.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Metzler, in 1985.
She is survived by two daughters, Barbara Bateman of Boothwyn, Pa., and Lynn Clifton of Lewes; a brother, George Nungesser of Aldon, Pa.; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Services will be private.

Walter ‘Corkey’ Phillips,
retired teacher
Walter Wise “Corkey” Phillips, 93, of Millsboro, passed away Saturday, Aug. 18, 2007, at Harbor Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center in Lewes.
Mr. Phillips was born March 17, 1914, in Frankford. He was the son of Walter and Allie May Phillips and an identical twin whose brother Kermit died at age 12. Walter graduated from Westchester State Teachers College in 1942. He was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran who served in the South Pacific. After the war, he was a teacher in Delaware and Maryland high schools. He was interested in history and designed the constitutional compass rose that was dedicated Dec. 7, 1988, in front of Legislative Hall in Dover.
He umpired baseball and officiated at basketball games in Delaware and was a lifetime member of the International Association of Approved Basketball Officials. While on summer break from teaching, he worked at Kutscher’s Sports Academy in upstate New York. He was one of the original members of St. Martin’s Episcopal Church in Selbyville. He was a lifetime member of the Mason-Dixon VFW Post 7234. Walter was an avid horticulturalist and while he was a member of the American Holly Society, he discovered and registered several varieties of holly.
Mr. Phillips is survived by his wife, Jane; a son, Jon T. Phillips; a daughter Allison Agra and her husband, Eduardo; and grandchildren, Laura and Eric Agra. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 25, at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Millsboro.

Roland V. Cobb,
real estate broker
Roland V. Cobb, 85, of Rehoboth Beach, formerly of Jensen Beach, Fla., and Dagsboro, passed away Friday, Aug. 17, 2007, at Brandywine Assisted Living in Rehoboth Beach.
Mr. Cobb was born in Clarksville, son of the late Vernon and Mary Jane Rickards Cobb. Roland was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy. He was a licensed real estate broker for more than 40 years and owned Cobb Real Estate Co. in Dagsboro.
Mr. Cobb served on the board of directors of the Delmarva Poultry Industry for 20 years and received a Distinguished Service Award for outstanding service to the poultry industry. Mr. Cobb also served as chairman on the board of trustees at Bethel Methodist Church in Dagsboro. He was a member of Doric Lodge 30 in Millville and was 32nd-degree Mason.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife Yvonne C. Cobb, June 13, 2007.
He is survived by a daughter, Suzanne Berry and her husband Bill of Lewes; a son, Gregory Cobb and his wife, Lyn of San Diego, Calif.; five grandchildren, Elizabeth Rusnak and her husband, Jason of Washington, D.C., Lisa Berry and her fiance, Conrad Bennett of Washington, D.C. , Jordan Cobb, Brennan Cobb and Andrea Cobb all of San Diego; and a sister, Florence Hall of Banner Elk, N.C.
A funeral service will be at 1 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 26, at the Frankford Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, Thatcher Street, Frankford, where family and friends may call after noon. Interment will be held in Prince George’s cemetery , Dagsboro.

Mary Russell,

Mary (Parks) Russell, 60, of Millville, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2007 at her home after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born on May 24, 1947, in Cresson, Pa., daughter of the late William and Mary Parks.
Mary loved her many family and friends and was an active member of the Ladies Auxiliary of VFW Post 7234 and Moose Lodge 2204. She worked in the medical field as an insurance billing and collections coordinator.
She was also a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church, Bethany Beach.
She was preceded in death by her brother, John Parks.
She is survived by her remaining brothers and sisters and their spouses: Albert (Kay), of Margaretville, N.Y., Anita Burk of Cresson, Daniel Parks of Cresson, Rose Marie (Joe) Dolansky, of Centerville, Va.; Gerald Parks of Lewistown, Pa.; Susie Ellis of Cresson; Sally (Joseph) Horvath of Rehoboth Beach, Richard (Barbara), of Erie, Pa. and Peter (Anne) Parks of Lewistown. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Ms. Russell will be buried in her hometown of Cresson, Pa. Arrangements are being handled by Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Clarksville.

Hector Elias Villa,
retired teacher
Hector Elias Villa, 73, of Dover, died Monday, Aug. 6, 2007, at his home, surrounded by his family.
Mr. Villa was born in Medellin, Colombia.
He was an educator in several surrounding districts.
Mr. Villa graduated from Tusculum College in Greenville, Tenn., and completed his graduate studies in Spanish in Spain from the University of Northern Iowa.
He taught for the Capital School District for 34 years, teaching Spanish and coaching soccer.
Mr. Villa also taught adult English as a second language for the Caesar Rodney School District for 25 years, and helped develop outreach ministries for migrant workers through the Delmarva Rural Ministries.
He traveled widely and enjoyed photography and coin and stamp collecting.
Mr. Villa was a dedicated father who cared for his family and was a member of the Victory Christian Fellowship Church of Dover.
He is survived by his wife, Emerita Villa; a daughter, Elsa Schmidt of Arizona; two sons, Hector Villa of Dover and Carlos Villa of Georgetown; four grandchildren; and three sisters, Flor Vargas and Amalia Navarro, both of Ohio, and Ofelia Castillo of California.
A memorial service was held at Victory Christian Fellowship Church, 18 Greenhill Ave., Dover.

Magnolia M. Mifflin,

Magnolia M. “Maggie” Mifflin, 76, passed away Friday, Aug. 10, 2007, at the Harrison House Senior Living Center, Georgetown.
Maggie was born April 26, 1931, in Dover, daughter of the late Thomas and Rhonda Pettyjohn Mifflin.
She was a graduate of the Culinary Arts School at Delaware Technical & Community College, Georgetown, and was employed as chief cook by Lewes Head Start Center.
Maggie also owned a cleaning service, working until she was 75.
She was a member of the Burton Chapel AME Church, Milton, where she served as an usher for many years, was a member of the Stewardess Board and was a missionary.
Maggie is survived by six children, Arlene Serrano of Georgetown, Ranford Allen Jr. of Lancaster, Pa., Debra Weekes of Tampa, Fla., Wanda Weston of Lewes, Lorenzo Mifflin of Georgetown, and Cynthia McCummings of New York City; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews; and an adopted daughter, Elizabeth Myers of Georgetown.
She was preceded in death by two sons and a daughter, Bermis Mifflin, Travis Mifflin and Vera Arroyo; and two sisters, Lena Gore and Laura Hubert.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, Aug. 17, at Burton Chapel AME Church, Milton, with the Rev. Jean Wylie officiating.
Friends may call at the church from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Interment will follow in Old Hickory cemetery , Lincoln.

Jack Dean Pack, 81, of Lewes, died Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2007, at his residence.
Mr. Pack was born in Sioux City, Iowa, son of the late Robert Pack and Inez (Heydon) Dubes. He had served as regional vice president of the American Express Co.
He was an avid computer user and an avid gardener and enjoyed traveling. Mr. Pack was a member of the Cape Henlopen Elks Lodge 2547 and the Masonic Lodge in Berlin, Germany. He was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, Rehoboth Beach.
Mr. Pack was a veteran of both the U.S. Navy and the Air Force.
He is survived by his wife Diantha E. (Seaman) Pack of Lewes; a daughter, Kim Elizabeth Lord of Big Bear City, Calif.; a son, Mark Eliot Pack of Springfield, Mo.; a sister, Janet Puguon of Searchlight, Nev.; a half-brother, Robert Pack of Porterville, Calif.; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2007 at Westminster Presbyterian Church, King Charles & Laurel Streets, Rehoboth Beach, with Rev. Frank Demming officiating. Interment will be private.

Norma A. Stokes,

Norma A. Stokes, 88, of Lewes, formerly of Dover, died Saturday, Aug. 11, 2007, at Beebe Medical Center, Lewes.
Born in New York City, she was the daughter of the late Francis J. Bonn and Helma Anton Bonn.
Mrs. Stokes and her family had resided in Wilmington from 1956 until moving to Dover in 1979. Mrs. Stokes had moved from Dover in 2000 and resided in Lewes until her death.
While living in Dover, Mrs. Stokes had been a member of Christ Episcopal Church. A dedicated mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, in her quieter moments she enjoyed playing bridge. A warm and sincere person, Mrs. Stokes will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her. Besides her parents, Mrs. Stokes was also predeceased by her husband, Edwin M. Stokes Sr., who died in 1996, and her son, Edwin M. Stokes Jr., who died in 2006.
She is survived by her son, The Hon. Richard F. Stokes and his wife Sally S. Stokes of Rehoboth Beach; a granddaughter, Sarah Musser and her husband Dr. R. Clayton Musser of Durham, N.C.; a grandson, R. Hunter Stokes of Rehoboth; and a great-grandson, Luke Stokes Musser of Durham, N.C.
Graveside committal services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 16, in the Madonna cemetery , Fort Lee, N.J., with burial following. The family suggests donations in her memory be made to Beebe Medical Foundation, 902 Savannah Road, Lewes, DE 19958.
John R. Tillotson,

John Robert Tillotson, 40, of Bridgeville, died Thursday, Aug. 9, 2007, at his residence of natural causes, the result of a long and lingering illness.
Mr. Tillotson was the son of Robert Louis Tillotson of Lugoff, S.C. and Delores “Dee” (Benjamin) Tillotson of Severn, Md. For several years he had worked in the travel industry, primarily at Baltimore-Washington Airport. He moved to Delaware in 1997. In addition to his parents, Mr. Tilottson is also survived by his sister, Tracy Marie Tillotson; a niece, LeAnn Marie Tillotson; his paternal grandparents, Lewis and Jean Tillotson of Elmira, N.Y.; his stepmother, Toni Tillotson of Lugoff, S.C.; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. He was pre-deceased by his maternal grandparents, Leon and Olive Benjamin. Services will be private. Memorial contributions are suggested to the hemophilia chapter.

Jeanette A. McCabe Lynch, 63, of Selbyville, died Sunday, Aug. 12, 2007, at home.
She was predeceased by her parents, Raymond and Catherine Robinson Lynch. Her first husband, Merrill F. McCabe, passed in 2001.
Survivors include her husband, Allen L. Lynch; children, Merrill A. McCabe of Georgetown, Robert L. McCabe of Shannon, N.C., Marsha L. Davis and husband Rodney of Selbyville, Tammy M. Johnson and husband Walter of Selbyville; a stepdaughter, Jessica Taylor and husband Jason of Girdletree, Va.; brothers, Robert Lynch of Greenville, N.C., Raymond A. Lynch Jr. of Trails End, Va.; sisters, Dolores Morris and Edna Hudson of Selbyville, Jennie L. Bush and Ethel M. Jones of Millsboro; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Jeanette was a member of the Blackwater Fellowship Church in Roxana.
Services will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 15, at Watson Funeral Home, 211 Washington St., Millsboro. Friends may call one hour prior. Barry Townsend will officiate. Interment will be in Roxana cemetery.
