Rhoda E. Ellingsworth, 73, of Greenwood, died Saturday, Oct. 9, 2004, surrounded by her family in her home. Mrs. Ellingsworth graduated from Bridgeville High School Class of 1949. She was a manager at Greenwood Manufacturing Co. for 17 years. She was preceded in death by her son, Frank V. Jones; a brother, Donald Records; and a sister, Helen Abbott.
She is survived by her husband of 22 years, Frank Ellingsworth; two daughters and sons-in-law, Sandy and Dale Willey of Bridgeville, and Janet “Petie” and Steve Adams of Greenwood; a son, Nelson V. Jones Jr. of Lewes; a sister, Barbara Williams of Greenwood; three grandchildren, DJ and Michael Willey and Tara Jones; and two great-grandchildren, Pilar and Lala Willey.
Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 13, at Fleischauer Funeral Home, 48 W. Market St., Greenwood. Services will be at 1 p,m., Thursday, Oct. 14, at the funeral home and burial will be in Ellendale cemetery.
Margery Hoffich,
retired seamstress
Margery Hoffich, 94, of Lewes and formerly of Bethlehem, Pa. and Manahawkin, N.J., died Monday, Oct. 11, 2004, at Beebe Medical Center, Lewes.
She was a seamstress for many years, retiring in 1972. She was preceded in death by her husband, John, Oct. 3, 2004. She is survived by two nieces, Adela Gladwell with whom she lived in Lewes; Diana Kutka of Fishkill, N.Y.; a grandniece, Jennifer Dahlia; a grandnephew, Jason Kutka; and a great-grandniece, Elizabeth Kutka. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, Oct. 13, at Conley’s United Methodist Church, Angola, where friends may call after 9:30 a.m. Friends may also call Tuesday, Oct. 12, from 7 to 8 p.m., at Melson Funeral Services, Long Neck Road. Shirley Jean Manning Heishman,

Shirley Jean Manning Heishman, 70, of Milford went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, Oct. 6, 2004, in her home with her family present.
Mrs. Heishman was born Aug. 18, 1934, in Harrisonburg, Va., daughter of James Paul Manning of Harrisonburg and the late Frances Elaine Whitesell Manning.
She was a homemaker most of her life, but also owned Heishman Inc., an embroidery business in Milford, which she opened in 1981 and operated until she retired in 1994.
Besides her dedication to her family, she enjoyed the challenge of crossword and jigsaw puzzles, and was an avid bowler.
Mrs. Heishman was a member of the First Baptist Church of Frederica and of the Lower Delaware Bowling Association and the Women's International Bowling Congress.
In addition to her mother, two brothers, Rodney Eugene Manning, and James W. Manning preceded her in death.
She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Harold W. Heishman; two sons, Scot Heishman of Lincoln and Eric Heishman of Rehoboth Beach; her father, James Paul Manning of Harrisonburg; a brother, John Robert "Bob" Manning, of Harrisonburg; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be 11 a.m. Friday in Rogers Funeral Home, 301 Lakeview Ave., Milford, where friends may call one hour earlier.
Additional services will be 11 a.m. Saturday in her hometown of Harrisonburg in the Lindsey Funeral Home, 473 S. Main St., where friends may call one hour earlier.
Burial will be in St. Jacob's Lutheran Church cemetery , Pleasant Valley, Va.

Dorothy Ellen Toner,

Dorothy Ellen Toner of Georgetown died Saturday, Oct. 2, 2004, in Green Valley Terrace Nursing Home, Millsboro. She was 85.
Mrs. Toner was born Nov. 27, 1918, daughter of the late Edward and Elsie Mae Shultz Holcroft. She was a homemaker.
She is survived by a son, William Toner of Gilbert, Ariz.; a daughter, Barbara L. Keen of Safety Harbor, Fla.; a sister, Joyce Brown of Harbeson; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Services and burial will be private.

Wallace S. Brohawn, Sr.
WWII veteran
Wallace S. Brohawn, Sr., 83, of Wilmington, passed away on Wednesday, October 6, 2004. Mr. Brohawn was a member of Pipefitters Local No. 74 for 48 years. He served in the U.S. Army as a member of the 82nd airborne division during World War II.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Lillian Brohawn; his sons, Wallace Jr. and his wife, Rose, Terry and his wife, Linda, all of Newark.
Michael and his wife, Paula, of Wilmington; his daughter, Deborah Winder and her husband, Charles, of Newark; his son, David of Wilmington; his brother, Harold "Turk" Brohawn of Rehoboth Beach; his sister, Rosalee Hill of Lewes; his grandchildren, Steven, Jeffrey, Lesley, Shawn, Lauren, Stephanie, Darren and Devyn; and his great granddaughter, Jordan.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral service on Monday, Oct. 11, at 8 p.m. at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Rd., Pike Creek, where friends may call after 6 p.m.
Burial will be private at the Delaware Veterans' Memorial cemetery
in Bear, DE.

Nora (Booth) Minnick,

Nora (Booth) Minnick of Lewes, formerly of Dover and St. George's, Bermuda, died, after a long battle with cancer, Tuesday, Oct. 5, 2004, in her home with family present. She was 79.
Mrs. Minnick was born April 17, 1925, in Paget, Bermuda, daughter of the late Samuel J. and Hilda Cornwell Booth.
She worked as a manager at H&E Smith in St. George's. Earlier, she was employed by Archie Brown.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Janet.
She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Walter E. Minnick of Lewes; a son and his special person, Paul Minnick and Chris Guidone, both of Cherry Hill, N.J.; two daughters and two sons-in-law, Dr. Judy and William Craig of Milford, and Mary Jane and Gary Gonzalez of Florida; a brother, Robert A. Booth of St. George's; and four grandchildren, Kevin Craig, Julie Craig, Michael Barbera and Gena Africano.
Remembrance services will be noon Saturday in Barratt's Chapel near Frederica, where friends may call one hour earlier.
Burial will be in Barratt's Chapel cemetery , near Frederica.

Fred C. Schmidt Jr.,
retired colonel
Fred C. Schmidt Jr., 88, of Rehoboth Beach, died Tuesday, Oct. 5, 2004, at Nanticoke Memorial Hospital, Seaford,
Fred was born and raised in Newark, N.J., the son of the late Frederick C. Sr. and Margaret Ihling Schmidt.
He spent most of his life in Newark. In 1997, he moved to Delaware to be with his daughter in Rehoboth Beach and had resided at the Country Rest Home in Greenwood since March.
He was valedictorian of his high school class and graduated on full scholarship in 1938 from Rutgers University with a double degree in chemistry and biology.
Col. Schmidt retired from the U.S. Air Force in 1968 after 30 years of distinguished service. He was awarded the Legion of Merit medal, the highest medal awarded during peacetime. His most recent work prior to retirement was with the Pentagon. During his military career, he worked in research and development during WWII and the Korean War. Col. Schmidt headed a group of engineers in the Air Force who developed the AWAC technology and Atlas Missile. During the Korean War he worked as a chemist at Calco Co. and developed sodium sulfmilimide, a sulfur compound that stopped excess wound bleeding of soldiers. He retired from the military with qualifications as a chemist, aeronautical engineer and chemical engineer.
After retirement he was employed as a chemist with General Dynamics in Rochester, N.Y. He went on to become a professor at Northern Virginia Community College where he taught hotel and restaurant management. After moving to Delaware, he helped manage Air Traffic, a kite company, with his daughter.
He was an active member of the Lions Club in Fairfax, Va. and Rehoboth Beach. He was a loving father and grandfather who doted on his grandson, and he enjoyed reading and watching football.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ellen Flanagan Schmidt; two sons, Michael F. and Ronald B. Schmidt; and a sister, Edna VanHorn.
He is survived by a daughter, Pam Hertel of Rehoboth Beach; a grandson, Brett Hertel, a freshman at Seton Hall University in South Orange, N.J.; a sister-in-law, Jeanne Chartier of Bristow, Va.; and many nieces and nephews.
Private memorial services with military honors will be held at Arlington National cemetery

Elizabeth A. Cahall,
retired teacher
Elizabeth A. Cahall, 93, of Millsboro, died Sunday, Oct. 3, 2004, at the Green Valley Terrace Nursing Home in Millsboro.
Mrs. Cahall was born in Millsboro and was a retired elementary school teacher who taught in the Millsboro, Gumboro and Frankford schools during her career. She was a member of Grace United Church in Millsboro.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford “Gus” Cahall, in 1990; a son, M. George Cahall in 1992; and a brother, Aldon Adkins in 1938.
She is survived by a daughter, Marilyn Seidel of Salisbury, Md.; seven grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
Graveside services were held at Millsboro cemetery , Millsboro.

Grace (Jump) Knotts,
retired teacher
Grace (Jump) Knotts, 95, of Seaford, died Monday, Oct. 4, at Methodist Manor House in Seaford.
Mrs. Knotts was born on Wednesday, March 10, 1909, in Cheswold, to the late Josiah Temple Jump and Ethel “Emerson” Jump.
Mrs. Knotts started teaching in 1928 in a one-room schoolhouse in Petersburg; she retired from the Cape Henlopen School District in 1974 after a 46-year career as a teacher. She was an active member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Seaford and was an avid champion bridge player. While living at the Methodist Manor House in Seaford, Mrs. Knotts participated in many of the varied organizations offered there. Likewise, she was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution - Col. David Hall chapter; a former member of All Saints Episcopal Church; past member of Sussex Gardeners; and a past member of VIA, Rehoboth Beach.
Mrs. Knotts was preceded in death by her husband, James Temple Knotts Jr.; her sister Beatrice Townsend; and her brother Josiah Temple Jump Jr.
She is survived by two sons, James T. Knotts III and his wife Christine of Rehoboth Beach, and Richard H. Knotts and his wife Melody of Troutman, N.C.; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, as well as two sisters, Virginia J. Metz of Seaford, and Ruth J. Walker of Woodside.
Funeral services were held at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, Lewes, with burial in All Saints cemetery , Lewes.

David ‘Pop’ Bull,

David “Pop” Bull, 82, of Smyrna, died Monday, Oct. 4, 2004, in the Delaware Home and Hospital for the Chronically Ill.
He worked for many years at Townsend’s Inc. and Parker’s in Millsboro and at Wyoming Concrete in Wyoming.
Mr. Bull was a member of Crossroad Christian Church, Dover. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Elizabeth Savage Bull.
He is survived by six sons, Barry Bull of Milton, David Bull and Crosby Bull, both of Dover, Charles Nock and Sammy Sample, both of Millsboro, and Walter Shepard of Baltimore; four daughters, Linda Bordley of Dover, Stephanie Nelson of Boston, Monica Brown of Smyrna and Sharon Van of Salisbury, Md.; a brother, Charles Bull of Craddockville, Va.; a sister, Alice Reid of Painter, Va.; 44 grandchildren; 61 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Anthony F. Uniatowski,
retired GM employee
Anthony F. Uniatowski, 71, of Newport Heights, died Monday, Oct. 4, 2004.
Tony had worked on the assembly line for GM for 30 years, retiring in 1985. He had been a member of UAW Local 435, the West End Rod & Gun Club and the Loyal Order of the Moose, New Castle.
He is survived by his wife, Violet; a daughter, Mary Ellen Bryner of Lake Worth, Fla.; a brother,Joseph Uniatowski and his wife Catherine of Lewes; and sisters Irene Shestock and her husband George of Chesapeake City, Md., Dorothy Perna and her husband Joe of New Castle,Agnes Uniatowski of Newport, JosephineUniatowski of Wilmington, Mary Ann Moody and her husband Gaylord of Chesapeake City, Md. He is also survived by his grandson, Pasqualo Anthony Addessi and his wife, Rebecca, of Levant, Me.; granddaughter, Sydney Addessi; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Gertrude, in 1976; hhis brother, Theodore; and sister, Florence Barbato.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m., Friday, oct. 8, at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, Cedar & S.Clayton sts., Wilmingtion, with burial in the Crypt of St. Francis in Cathedral cemetery.
