SFC William L. Russell, "Sarge", age 76, passed away March 19, 2006 at Christiana Hospital in Newark, DE.
Sarge was a veteran of the US Army, having served for 21 years. As a member of the Security Agency, he spent several years in Germany, Korea and Vietnam. In 1962, while stationed in Germany, he took part with a large group of US troops in the landing scenes of "The Longest Day". Produced off the coast of France, this film re-enacted the famous "D-Day" June 6th landing at Normandy. This was a very historical battle in US history of our invasion of strongholds of World War II in Europe. After retirement, he was employed at the GM Boxwood plant in Wilmington for 20 years. He served on the veteran's committee of Local #435. Veteran affairs, both local and national, were a major concern to him. Both Senators Biden and Carper's offices were so helpful to his inquiries. In the past few years, he made every possible effort to publish the need of a home for homeless vets and those in need of medical help. He attended the ground breaking ceremony last August. This was a fulfillment of a dream. The proposed date of completion is December, 2006 in Milford, DE.
Sarge is survived by his wife, Violette, with whom he celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Thanksgiving Day 2005; 3 children, Kevin Russell and Bonnie Papaleo, both of Wilmington, DE, and Glenn Russell, and his wife, Pam, of nearby PA.
Private services were arranged by the Strano & Feeley Family Funeral Home and interment was in the Delaware Veterans Memorial cemetery in Bear.

Mrs. Cecelia A. Ross, age 83, of Wilmington, DE, passed away on Tuesday morning, March 21, 2006, at Wilmington Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.
Cecelia was born February 19, 1923 in Wilmington to the late Francesco and Emidia (Pacifici) Archangelo.
She was employed as a sales clerk at Sears and Roebuck, Co. before retiring in 1985 after 23 years of service. A lifetime parishioner, Cecelia was an active member of St. Anthony of Padua Church, having served as a greeter. She was also a member of the Blessed Virgin Mary Sodality. Cecelia was also an active member of the Sons of Italy Lodge in Chester, PA. Her greatest love was for that of her family, cherishing her time with loved ones. Cecelia was a devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and friend.
Cecelia is survived by her son, David Ross, and his wife, Mary Ann, of Delmar, DE; daughter, Jeannette Kelley, and her husband, Thomas, with whom she lived; grandchildren, Brian A. Ross, of Delmar, and Anthony F. Ross, of Newark, DE; great grandchildren, Justin and Sarah Ross; several nieces and nephews; and many friends who will miss her dearly. She was predeceased by her brothers, John, Gabriel and Frank Archangelo.

George A. McPhee, age 76, passed away March 20, 2006, after a 5-year battle with melanoma.
He was born March 19, 1930, in Dorchester, MA, son of the late George O. and Ellen C. (Stewart) McPhee. George graduated from Milton High School in Milton, MA, and the Bentley School of Accounting and Finance in Boston, MA. He came to Dover, DE with General Foods from Walter Baker Chocolate Co. in Dorchester, MA in 1963, having worked for 1 year in White Plains, NY on the Dover Task Force. He retired from General Foods in Dover as office services supervisor April l, 1986, after 33½ years of service. He served 6 years in the USMC.
His main hobby was his many Masonic affiliations. He was a member and Past Master of Union Lodge #7 AF&AM in Dover, a member of the Delaware Consistory in Wilmington, Past Potentate of Nur Shrine in Wilmington, past president of the Nur Patrol Unit, past president of the Mid-Atlantic Association of Shrine Patrols, and current treasurer and trustee for the Kent County Nur Shrine, He was a life member of the Shrine Club of Delaware and the Lower Delaware Shrine Club; a director of the Endowment, Wills and Gifts Committee for the Imperial Shrine of North America, and served on the Board of Governors of the Philadelphia Shriners Hospital for Children. He was a past leader of the York Rite Bodies in Dover, Past Worthy Patron of Victory Chapter #15 OES in Dover, Past Worthy Grand Patron of the Grand Chapter of the Delaware OES, a life member and past commander of the Delaware Veterans of WWII Post #2 in Dover, a life member of American Legion Post #2 in Dover, a life member of the DAV in Camden, and a life member and past commandant of the Central Delaware Detachment of the Marine Corps League. He was a past commandant of the Department of Delaware Marine Corps League, a member of Pound #237 Military Order of Devil Dogs of the Marine Corps League; past director of Delaware Court #64 Royal Order of Jesters, a member the Delaware Preceptory DeMolay Legion of Honor, a member of the Modern Maturity Center in Dover, and a member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Smyrna, DE. You can take the boy out of Massachusetts, but you cannot take Massachusetts out of the boy. George was a loyal fan of the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots.
He leaves to cherish his memory his high school sweetheart and beloved wife of 54 years, Pauline (Rauscher) McPhee. He is also survived son, Stephen G., and his wife, Cheree, of Newark, DE, and their daughters, Megan and Stephanie; son, Douglas P., and his wife, Jen, of Woodbine, GA, and their children, Katie and Colleen and Britt; son, Jeffrey S., and his wife, Paula, of Hampton, VA, and their children, Casey and Ian; daughter, Sheryl Smith, and her husband, Mark, of Gloucester, MA, and their children, Kyle and Kara; and daughter, Susan Shelor, and her husband, David, of Magnolia, and the children, Matt and Diana. He is also survived by a sister, Sandra Fly, of Charlotte, NC. He will also be missed by his Tuesday and Friday morning coffee buddies at Spence's Bazaar; and his 4-year old boxer, Nellie.
Family and friends may call Thursday from 5-8 pm on Thursday, March 23, at the TRADER FUNERAL HOME 12 Lotus Street, Dover, where a Masonic and Eastern Star service will begin at 7:30 pm. Emily B. Morris McKusick died on Thursday, March 16, 2006, at her residence on Foulk Road in Wilmington, DE.
Emily was born May 18, 1919, in Minneapolis, MN, daughter of Carleton and Beatrice Brown. She grew up in Bryn Mawr, PA and in Montclair, NJ. She graduated from Smith College in 1940, and worked in a publishing firm in New York City before marrying Allston Jesse Morris, Jr. in 1941. Between 1942 and 1950, she gave birth to 5 children: David, Christopher, Michael, Elizabeth, and Jess. She and Dr. Morris eventually settled in Wilmington, DE, where she became a homemaker. They lived in the same house on Veale Road for more than 40 years. From her arrival in Wilmington in 1947, Emily was active in the First Unitarian Church, serving as a member of the board. She was past president of the auxiliary to the Medical Society of Delaware and the auxiliary to the Medical Society of New Castle County. She was active in the Democratic party and a tireless supporter of the local public schools. She instilled in her children a political idealism and love of education. She was an avid reader, whose favorite author was John Updike. She also enjoyed travel, music, gardening and crossword puzzles. Four years after the death of Allston Morris, Emily married a longtime friend, Blaine "Mac" McKusick. The 2 enjoyed 5 years of marriage before Mac's death in 2005. Friends and family treasure and remember Emily for her love of life, for her passionate commitment to social justice, and for living out her belief in the dignity and worth of every person.
One of her abiding loves was for her children, her grandchildren (Ellen, Jason, Benjamin, Daniel, Lindsay, Joshua, and Brendan); her step granddaughter (Rose); and great granddaughter (Jules); as well as for people in need throughout the world.
A memorial service is planned at the First Unitarian Church, 730 Halstead Road, Sharpley, for Saturday, April 8, at 2 pm.

Eleanor L. McKee of Claymont, DE, age 84 passed away on Sunday, March 19, 2006 at Wilmington Hospital.
Eleanor was born in Connellsville, PA to the late Henry C. Miller and Bessie (Morgan) Miller. Mrs. McKee was a devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother. In her earlier years, she worked for the Krebs School in East Windsor, NJ in the dietary department. Mrs. McKee volunteered regularly with the AARP in Oak Ridge, TN. In her leisure time, she enjoyed playing cards and swimming, especially with her grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert Morris McKee, who passed away in 1971. Survivors include her devoted children, Eilene McKee, of Claymont, DE, Gary McKee, of Wilmington, DE, and Donna Valentino, of Oak Ridge, TN, with whom Eleanor had lived for 15 years; sisters, Pearl Feathers, of Connellsville, PA, and Ruth Battenfield, of Romeo, MI; grandchildren, Gary McKee, Jeff Valentino, Joseph Valen-tino, Tracy Lyons, Michael McKee and Steven McKee; and 8 great grandchildren.
The funeral service and interment will be held privately.

Paul D. McGowan, age 40, of Hockessin, DE, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 18, 2006.
Paul graduated from Dickinson High School in 1983 and Delaware Tech., with a degree in electrical engineering in 1991. He was presently employed with G.S.A. of Springfield, PA and part-time at Concord Pet of Hockessin. He was a volunteer fireman with the Mill Creek Fire Co. for 20 years and was a past ambulance lieutenant.
Paul is survived by his loving wife of 3 years, Rebecca S. Mearns McGowan; his father and mother, Keith and Udel McGowan; and 2 sisters, Patricia Krysiak, and her husband, Michael, and Deborah Wein, and her husband, Greg. He is also survived by 5 nieces, Rachael, Stephanie and Rebeca Krysiak, and twins, Brittany and Samantha Doughty; and his 2 therapy dogs, Candy and Duke, who were the joy of his life.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Alexandria Phan of the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, TX for her dedication, compassion and her ongoing encouragement.
The funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 25, 2006, at 10 am, at Aldersgate U.M. Church, 2313 Concord Pike, Wilmington, DE, where friends may call after 9 am. A firemen's procession will follow from the church to Lower Brandywine cemetery in Centerville, DE. A reception will be held at the church following burial.

William H. Mathew, age 91, of New Castle, DE, passed away March 20, 2006.
Mr. Mathew was a maintenance supervisor with the Abex Corporation in New Castle. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in New Castle and St. John's Masonic Lodge #2.
Mr. Mathew was preceded in death by his daughter, Merle Beardsley; his grandson, Brian Beardsley; and infant great grandson, Connor Mathew. He is survived by his wife, Mildred, of New Castle; daughter, Marilyn Lane, and her husband, Bill, of Milford, DE; grandson, Jason Mathew, and his wife, Laurie, of Newark; great grandchildren, Zachary and Haley; brother, Jack Mathew, and his wife, Nancy; and sister, Doris Chini, all of PA.
The family would like to thank all those at ManorCare who provided the care and comfort to Mr. Mathew over the past year.

Frances Pritchett Lippincott, of Wilmington, DE, died on Monday, March 20, 2006, at the Kentmere Nursing Care Center.
Mrs. Lippincott was a teacher and homemaker. She was a volunteer for 43 years and served on the board of trustees at Kentmere and was a member of the Junior League of Wilmington. Frances was well known for her Southern cooking and as a loving and faithful friend.
Her husband of 47 years, Samuel Woolston Lippincott, Jr., M.D., died in 1992. She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Gladys Cogle, Ruth Streeter, Nell Gordon and Jean Williams; and her brother, William W. Pritchett, Jr. Mrs. Lippincott is survived by her daughter, Frances L. Van Leeuwen; a granddaughter, Franny V. Linus, and her husband, Scott; a grandson, Brett Van Leeuwen; a great granddaughter, Cailyn; and a sister, Margaret Ann Short.

Jeanne C. Killmon, age 81, of Wilmington, DE, passed away on Saturday, March 18, 2006, at Foulk Manor South.
A graduate of University of Pennsylvania and the Delaware Hospital School of Nursing, Jeanne served and cared for others as a registered nurse. She retired from Emily Bissell Hospital, where she was a nursing supervisor.
Jeanne was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Charles F. Killmon, in 2004. She is survived by her son, Mark Killmon, and his wife, Diane, of Nokesville, VA; her daughter, Lisa Meixell, and her husband, Michael, of Wilmington, DE; her grandsons, Matthew and Steven Killmon; her sister, Shirley Behley, and her husband, Warner; and 3 nieces.
A committal service will be held in the chapel of the Delaware Veterans Memorial cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Rd., Bear, on Thursday, March 23, 2006, at 11 am. Mrs. Joan M. (McGarrigle) Karczmarczyk, age 68, of Upper Darby, PA, died Monday, March 20, 2006, at decedent's residence in Upper Darby, PA.
She was born February 10, 1938 in Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, PA. Mrs. Karczmarczyk was a graduate of West Catholic Girls School in Philadelphia, PA. She was employed at Verizon (formerly Bell Telephone) for 34 years, retiring in 1994.
She was predeceased by her father, Mr. Michael A. McGar-rigle; mother, Helen M. (Kelly) McGarrigle; and son, Ronald Karczmarczyk. She is survived by her daughter, Janet M. (Dennis) English, of Lansdowne, PA; brother, William (Joan) Mcgarrigle, of Malvern, PA; and granddaughter, Nicole Karczmarczyk.
Visitation will be from 8:30-9:30 am on Friday, March 24, 2006, at the THE DONOHUE FUNERAL HOME, 8401 West Chester Pike, Upper Darby, PA. A funeral mass will be offered at 10 am on Friday, at St. Cyril Church, 153 Penn Blvd., East Lansdowne, PA. Burial will be in Calvary cemetery in West Conshohocken, Montgomery County, PA.
Eva Mae Graham (Chambers)
Age 89, of Newark, DE, passed away on Saturday, March 18, 2006, after a lengthy illness. Eva Mae was the wife of the late Harry P. Graham, who passed away in April 1997. They shared 60 years of marriage.
Born in Tayloria, PA (Little Britain Twp, Lancaster County), she was the daughter of the late George H. and Florence Jones Chambers. She and her husband moved to Port Charlotte Village in Port Charlotte, FL in 1987 after living in Newark, DE for over 30 years. Eva Mae was a member of the United Methodist Church of Port Charlotte, the Oxford United Methodist Church, attended Oxford High School, and graduated from Avon-Grove High School in 1935.
Survivors include 2 sons, Lawrence H. Graham, of Wilmington, DE, and George E. Graham, of Newark, De; 3 grandchildren; 3 stepgrandchildren; and 3 step great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister and brother.
Relatives and friends may call from 10-11 am on Wednesday, March 22, 2006, at the RUFFENACH FUNERAL HOME, 224 Penn Ave., Oxford, PA, where the funeral service will begin at 11 am. Interment will be in Oxford cemetery.
Joseph S. DeFazio Age 95 of Wilmington, DE and formerly of Staten Island, NY passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on Sunday, March 19, 2006.
Mr. DeFazio retired from Dean Whitter after 33 years as a vice-president. After his retirement he worked as a Real Estate Broker. He was employed by the United States Army in the Chaplains School and was president of AARP and past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus, all in Staten Island. Joseph volunteered in many organizations such as; Willowbrook Hospital of Staten Island, where he spend many hours with the mentally challenged, Christiana Hospital and Emily P. Bissell Hospital. He was an active member of St. Catherine of Siena Church where he was in the Knights of Columbus, St. Vincent DePaul Society, the choir, accounting and was the oldest altar server.
One of Joseph's greatest pastimes was writing poetry. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother.
He was predeceased by his daughter, Victoria Taverna.
Joseph is survived by his wife of 75 years, Mrs. Antoinette DeFazio; his daughters, Mary Caravaglio and her husband, Michael of Manahawkin, NJ, and Joanne M. Strong of Newark, DE; his grandchildren, Michael Caravaglio and his wife, Lisa, Mark Caravaglio and his wife, Regina, Debra Denson and her husband, Karl, Steven Taverna, Susan Maines and her husband, David and Brian, Lauren and Allison Strong, and 11 great-grandchildren.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Catherine of Siena Church, 2503 Centerville Rd., Wilmington, DE 19808 on Saturday, March 25, 2006 at 10:30 am, where friends may visit in the church at 9:30 am. Interment will be in All Saints cemetery.

Pauline J. de Polo, age 86, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 19, 2006.
Born February 20, 1920, Mrs. de Polo was truly a loving, kind and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and best friend. A native Delawarean, she was a graduate of P.S. duPont High School, and attended Goldey-Beacom College. For several years, she was employed by the duPont Company. She was a devout parishioner of St. Helena's Catholic Church and served as a volunteer for the parish social ministry outreach program.
She is survived and was adored by her husband of 61 years, Albert J. de Polo; her children, Carol A. Wright, and her husband, John, of Hockessin, Paula J. Ritchings, and her husband, William, of Newark, Nina R. Lawless, and her husband, Stephen, of Hockessin, and Robert J. de Polo, and his wife, Brenda, of Wilmington; as well as 11 grandchildren; and 1 great grandson. She is also survived by her sister, Louise Bair; a brother, Charles A. Julian; and several nieces.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday morning, March 25, 2006, at 11 am, at St. Helena's Catholic Church, 602 Philadelphia Pike, Wilmington, where family and friends may call from 10-11 am. Entombment will be private.

Ronald T. "Britt" Brittingham, age 89, of Dagsboro, DE, died on Sunday, March 19, 2006, at Nanticoke Memorial Hospital in Seaford.
Ronald was born in Millsboro to Charles and Alice Truitt Brittingham. He was a WWII veteran, having served as a medic in the Army. He was in the Normandy invasion, the Battle of the Ardennes, the Northern France campaign, and the Rhineland. He had been a business manager for Eastern States, Agway and Southern States. Britt also served for 10 years with the Sussex County government in charge of security. He was past commander of VFW Post #7422 in Millsboro, and a member of American Legion Post #19 in Laurel.
Survivors include his wife of 30 years, Lois Wilder Brittingham; a son, Craig Brittingham, and his companion, Dawn Caroll, of Laurel; 1 sister, Ruth Shields, of Boston, MA; 1 grandson, Stephen Brittingham; and 1 great granddaughter, Alyssa Brittingham. He was predeceased by 2 brothers, Adolphus and Harland Brittingham; and a sister, Emily Welch.
