BEATRICE CROSS
Beatrice M. Cross, age 102, of Wilmington, DE, formerly of Presidential Towers, Claymont died on Wednesday, September 23, 2009 at Shipley Manor, her home for the past 13 years. Mrs. Cross was born in New York and raised in Massachusetts. She attended Portia Law School in Boston and worked as a librarian before her marriage. She moved to Delaware in 1977 and was an active member of the Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) from 1981-1990, working at the Woodshaven-Kruse School for Girls, the Wilmington Institute Free Library, the Delaware State Hospital and the Blood Bank of Delaware. Her husband, Raymond died in 1980, predeceased by their son, Jeffrey in 1950. Mrs. Cross is survived by her daughter, Diana Cross Washburn of Wilmington, a nephew, Stannard Potter of Vernon, CT, a cousin, Susan Kenny of Toronto, Canada, and a devoted step-grandson, Jan Washburn of Berkeley, CA. Mrs. Cross’ daughter would like to thank all of the dedicated staff at Shipley Manor for the skilled and compassionate care her mother received during her residence there. She also gratefully acknowledges the kindness and support provided by Compassionate Care Hospice over the last several months. MARION CROSSLAND
Marion C. Crossland Age 95 of Wilmington DE, passed away on May 8, 2009. Marion, was born in Highlands, NJ to the late Frederick and Sarah Corse. She moved to Havre de Grace and then to Claymont, DE in 1928. She graduated from Claymont High School and the Wilmington General Hospital Nursing Program. She retired from Wilmington Trust as a Head Teller. She enjoyed children and worked with the Claymont PTA, Band Boosters, Girl Scouts and the Cub Scouts. She was a past Worthy Matron of Chapter #19 Order of the Eastern Star and a member of Atonement Methodist Church since 1928. Her husband, John R. Crossland 3rd passed away in 1985. She is survived by her son, John R. Crossland and his wife Priscilla and her daughter Marion C. Hogan both of Wilmington. She also leaves to cherish her memory 4 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday May 13 at the Chapel of Gracelawn Memorial Park, DuPont Highway, Wilmington where friends may call after 10:00 a.m. Burial will take place in the adjoining park. ANNA CROWE
Anna M. Crowe (Price) Age 88, of Wilmington, DE, died peacefully on March 3, 2009 at Foulk Manor North. Born in Cecilton, MD, Anna moved to Wilmington after graduation from high school to study hairdressing. She married Russel F. Crowe, and together they raised a family of four children. Russel predeceased her in 1981. Anna’s passion was sewing and other neddlework. She also loved working in her beautiful flower garden, prizing her roses the most. She rooted faithfully for the Phillies. Anna also was a member of the Eastern Star Five Points Chapter for 61 years. She was active in the Richardson Park United Methodist Church, and led a circle of United Methodist Women. Anna is survived by her daughter Mary Ann Gordon of Georgetown, DE; son Franklin R. Crowe and his wife Linda of Townsend, DE; daughter Jane E. Gaudioso and her husband Charles of Chadds Ford, PA; and daughter Phyllis C. Thomas and her husband Robert of Lewes, DE. She is also survived by nine grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and siblings Russell Price, Ruth Ingle, and Catherine Groves. Her brothers Harry, George, and William Price predeceased her. Her family appreciates the efforts of the caring staff at Foulk Manor North and Odyssey Healthcare. EARL CUMMINS
Earl Wesley Cummins, age 85 of Wilmington, DE, a retired organic chemist and father of 3, died Monday in Wilmington Hospital. Earl was born in Corbin, Kentucky on December 12th, 1923. He moved to Michigan with his family in 1936. After graduating from high school, Earl was granted a scholarship to attend the Detroit Institute of Technology where he earned a bachelor’s degree in chemistry in 1943. A subsequent scholarship enabled Earl to continue his studies at Wayne University, culminating in a doctorate of philosophy in 1951. Earl was hired by the DuPont Corporation following his graduate work at Wayne, and moved to Wilmington, DE to begin a career at the DuPont Experimental Station that would span nearly four decades. After formerly retiring from DuPont in 1985, he continued to perform consultant work for several years before devoting himself entirely to his family. Earl was an avid bridge player. He frequently competed in duplicate-style tournaments and was granted Life Mastership in the American Contract Bridge League in 1980. Earl also enjoyed bowling and golfing. He was also an exceptional backyard wiffleball player. Earl had been married to Merriam (Shaw) Cummins since September 25th, 1950. In addition to his loving wife, Earl is survived by his son Daniel and wife Lisa of Wilmington; 2 daughters, Linda Faye Berman and husband Fred of Corvallis, OR and Laura K. Dove and husband Jason of Nevado, CA; his sister, Wilma Krieter of Charlotte, MI; and his 4 grandchildren, John Cummins, Matthew Cummins, Corrine Dove and Jason Dove III. Earl will be remembered for his generosity, his wisdom and his endearing sense of humor. Family and friends are invited to a visitation at McCrery’s Funeral Home to be held on Saturday, April 11 from 1-2PM. A memorial service will follow. GEORGIA BALL CURTIS
Georgia Ball Curtis Age of 95, died Thursday, July 9, 2009 in Wilmington, Delaware. She was born in New York City to the late Mary Alice Husch Ball and George Raymond Ball. Georgia received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Brooklyn College in 1934. She pursued graduate studies in American History at Brooklyn College and the University of Delaware. For many years, she was a museum guide at Winterthur Museum where she was a member of the first group of guides to be trained to lead extensive tours Georgia was an avid student of many subjects at the University of Delaware Academy of Life-Long Learning. She was particularly fond of her many years of Ancient Greek language studies. She was a film editor for Pathé News during the Second World War where she edited newsreel film shipped from the front lines of combat. She has also taught high school social studies and was a licensed Real Estate Broker. Her volunteer activities included work with the American Cancer Society and Crisis Center call lines. Georgia enjoyed worldwide travel. Georgia was the widow of Daniel Corbit Curtis who dies in 1954. He was a member of the Corbit family of Odessa, Delaware. She is survived by five daughters: Patricia Geissel of Iowa City, IA; Mary Curtis Meacham (John Meacham) of Eugene, OR5; Alice Corbit Curtis (John Frank) of Berwin, PA; Sara Curtis Hopkins (John Ballad) of Wilmington, DE; and Elizabeth Brinton Curtis (George Swain) of Chadds Ford, PA. In addition, she is survived by eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 16, at 10am, at Immanuel Episcopal Church, Highlands, 2400 W. 17th St. Wilmington, DE, were friends may call after 9am. MARTHA "MARTY" DAVIS
Martha (Straw) Davis “Marty” Age 87, died Thursday, April 9, 2009 at the Christiana Hospital surrounded by her loving family. Born 2/22/22 to the late Steiner and Naomi Straw, Martha graduated from P.S. DuPont High School, and later worked at Colonial Trust Bank and Delaware Park Mutuals where she retired from after 35 years of service. She was very active at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church and was involved with many church activities. She was predeceased by her husband, Francis F. Davis in 1989. She is survived by 3 children, Glenn F. Davis and his wife Joan; Gary L. Davis; and Gay Davis-Frazer, and her husband Richard; 8 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; and 2 nieces. A viewing will be held on Friday, April 17, 2009 from 6-8 pm at McCRERY MEMORIAL CHAPEL, 3710 Kirkwood Highway (Rt. 2 at Duncan Rd.), Wilmington, DE 19808. ANNA MARIE DAWSON
Anna Marie Dawson Age 92 of Wilmington, DE, passed away on Saturday, March 28, 2009 at the Heartland Hospice House, Wilmington in the presence of her loving family. Anna Marie was born in Modale, IA to the late Frederick C. and Linnie Behm, where she graduated from Logan HS. She married her late husband of 63 years, James C., on her 21st birthday. James died in 2000. Anna Marie was a homemaker and enjoyed bridge, canasta, antiques and playing the piano. She is survived by her children, James and his wife Kay of Joliet, IL, Nancy Faulk and her husband Bruce of Wilmington, Susan Dawson and her husband, Gary Madsen of Hyde Park, UT and Kevin of Wilmington and 6 grandchildren. Anna Marie was also preceded in death by her daughter Carole Crowe in 2001. MARK DAY
Mark S. Day On June 6, 2009, after a yearlong battle with cancer, Mark Steven Day, 53, went home to be with the Lord. He is now perfect in mind and body. Mark attended Special Education classes in the Mt. Pleasant School District where he graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School in 1975. As a part of the Special Ed. Program, Mark worked at McDonald’s on Concord Pike and in the kitchen at Riverside Hospital until mental illness prevented him from continuing to work. He had a lifelong love of music. Mourning his loss but celebrating his new life in heaven are his parents, Alvin and Jane Day of Earleville, MD and his siblings, Tom and his wife Sue of Reno, NV, Rick and his wife Sue of Elkton, MD, Susan and her husband Gordy of Wilmington, DE, Sarah and her husband Mike of Newark, DE and Bill and his companion, Margaret also of Earleville, MD. MARGARET "PEGGY" ANN DELAPLANE
Margaret Ann Delaplane (Peggy Ann) Age 74, formerly of Wilmington, died on Saturday, April 25, 2009, at Jenner’s Pond Retirement Community, Jennersville, PA. Peggy Ann was born in Lower Merion, PA to the late Robert Wiggin and Eleanor Cole Duncan. She graduated with a BA in Chemistry from Wellesley College and started her career with the DuPont Company in 1956 as an Assistant Toxicologist at Haskell Laboratory. Peggy Ann was active in the DuPont Chorus where she met her husband of 48 years, the late Ralph Emerson Delaplane. After the birth of her second son, Peggy Ann worked at the Nursing School of Wilmington as a chemistry instructor and subsequently served in a variety of roles in financial administration and financial aid, as well as Secretary of the Board of Trustees. Peggy Ann worked as business manager of the Episcopal Diocese of Delaware for 18 years until her retirement in 1994. Throughout her career she gained great wisdom on non-profit finance and co-authored a book entitled Business Methods in Church Affairs in 1995. In retirement she continued her service to the community through leadership roles in several non-profit organizations including the Seaman’s Center of Wilmington, St. Barnabas Church, Jenner’s Pond Retirement Community, St. Michael’s Day Nursery, Wilmington Garden Day, and the Episcopal Diocese of Delaware. Peggy Ann is survived by her two sons, Bruce and Mark (Suzanne); 6 grandchildren, Scott, Amanda, Emily, Elizabeth, Peter and Margaret; and her sister DeDe Tuterice (Joe). A funeral service will be held at 2:30 pm, Saturday, May 2, at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church, Millcreek Hundred, where friends may call after 1:30 pm. Interment will be in the church memorial garden. Anthony DeLiberali Age 88, passed away peacefully at home on April 15, 2009 surrounded by his family. He was a World War II Veteran. He is preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Christine. JAMES A. DIANA, SR.
JAMES A. DIANA, SR. Of Wilmington, died at home with his family on March 13, 2009, at age 77, just 10 days from his 78 birthday. Jim was born and raised in Hazleton, Pa. Son of the late Michael A. and Catherine C. Diana and graduated from Hazleton HS in 1949. He served in the US Coast Guard during the Korean War. Jim joined the Wilmington Police Dept. in 1956 and proudly served the city of Wilmington until he retired in 1973 as a Lieutenant. He worked for Brandywine College (Widener University) for 12 years and then worked for Hercules until he retired in 1996. He will forever be in the hearts of his wife, of 39 years, Linda, their 5 children and 10 grandchildren. Hoshang Didehvar Beloved husband, father and grandfather, Hoshang Didehvar passed away peacefully on August 2, 2009 at age of 79. Mr. Didehvar was born on Sept. 3, 1929 in Moscow, Russia. His last position was President of Northern territory of Sepah Bank in Iran overseeing 700 branches and more than 5,000 employees. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Najie. His three children, Kia, Kaveh, and Kamie. His three Daughter In–Laws who he loved as his daughters, Debbie, Cheky, and Leyla. His three grand kids, Dillon, Daria and Jade. CHRISTINE DITTMER
Christine J. Dittmer Age 60, of Newark, DE went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, December 11, 2008 at her home after a long battle with cancer. She was a merchandiser for Hallmark, owned and operated Christine’s Crystals in Newark, and was an agent for Mary Kay Cosmetics. Christine was also a member of Pike Creek Bible Church, the Daughters of the British Empire and Stonecroft Ministries. She is survived by her husband, David Stuart Dittmer; her children, Gareth Dittmer and his wife, Fleur of London, England, Mark Dittmer and his wife, Dahleet of San Jose, CA, and Paul Dittmer of San Jose, CA; 1 sister, Jaqueline Jones of Canvey Island, Essex England, and grandchildren, Oliver, Joshua, and Samuel. YOLANDA DIVIRGILIO
Yolanda L. DiVirgilio Age 80, of Wilmington, DE passed away on August 22, 2009 after a long illness. She was born in Marshallton to the late Guisseppe and Maria DiVirgilio. Yolanda attended Conrad High School and was a self employed hairdresser many years ago. She came from a large family of 6 brothers and 2 sisters. Yolanda was preceded in death by Anthony (Tony), Charles (Doc), Olden (Oley), and William (Pete) DiVirgilio, and Mafalda (Muffy) Allison. She is survived by her brothers, Amedio (Mitty) of Marshallton, and Raymond of Elkton, MD; sister, Elizabeth Racine of The Villiages of Florida, and many nieces and nephews. She was deeply loved and will be missed and blessed by all who knew her. The family is grateful to the staff of Emily P. Bissell for their care. LAVAUN DOMINICK
Levaun L. Dominick Age 86, of Wilmington, DE, passed away on November 30, 2008 at the Christiana Hospital. Levaun was born in Ash County, NC to the late Garnie and Blanche Dolinger. She had worked for her late husband, Matthew L. Dominick at Doc’s Meatland in Hockessin, DE and then as a secretary for First State Paper. She was also employed by the State of Delaware as a cafeteria server. Levaun was an active member of the Union U.M. Church where she taught Sunday school, sang in the choir and served in many church positions. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband. Levaun is survived by her daughters, Beverly Gollicker and JoAnn Hurd, her son-in-law Bruce Gollicker,her brother, Raymond Dolinger, her sisters, Ruth Paisley, Jean Hancock, Mary Christy and Jesse Walker. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, Bruce, Jr., Bryan and Lauren Gollicker, Melissa Fazzino, Kimberly Brooks, Meredith Springfield and Mathew Herd and her great grandson, Gavin Brooks. NETTA DOMINO
Marie Antoinette Domino (Netta) Age 102 of Newark, DE and formerly of New York City, passed away on March 1, 2009. Mrs. Domino had her own dry goods store in the 1930’s in Brooklyn, NY where she volunteered her time with Little Sisters of the Poor Orphanage, the PTA, and her church group and was also a V.I.S.T.A. volunteer. She also cooked for the needy at Mother Teresa’s in Miami Florida and throughout her life she bought and sold real estate. Netta’s interests included music, opera, T.V documentaries, reading and especially her family. Netta enjoyed spending time with her family, she loved cooking and keeping up with current events. She was a very religious, friendly and outgoing person, she lived life to the fullest and her courage and strength were an inspiration to all she touched. We will miss her very much and she will live in our hearts forever. Netta’s husband Charles Domino passed away in 1964. She is survived by her daughters, Frances Nunziato and her husband Joseph of Leonardtown, MD and Mary Jane Papas and her husband James of Newark, DE; grandchildren, Dina, Dawn, Christy, James, Mia & Nikole and their spouses, David, Jon, Shawn, Helen, Morel and John; great grandchildren, Jake, Anna, Zac, Allie, Mason, Landon, Giana, Zoe, Ella, Pierce and her sister Viola Phillips. MAGUIRE DORIS
Doris T. Dorsey-Maguire Age - 89 of Columbia, Maryland, died from cancer on December 3, 2008 at Lorien Nursing Home, Columbia, Maryland. She was a retired Wilmington Librarian and homemaker. Dois was a member of the Red Cross and had an active interest in The Blood Bank of Delaware Eastern Shore. She had numerous other interests including Crosswords Puzzles, Scrabble, Gin Rummy, and Cryptograms. She was an accomplished seamstress, an avid reader, and devoted to her family. She was predeceased by her first husband, Alfred Dorsey, a well known plumber in Wilmington, Delaware. She was also predeceased by her second husband, John Maguire. She always felt so blessed to have found great love and to have been so loved greatly. She is survived by her stepson John Maguire and his wife Sandy of Middletown, Delaware. She is survived by her niece Pat Mason and her husband Walt of Columbia, Maryland and her niece Vera Stratton and her husband Dick of Fort Mill, South Carolina. She is also survived by her grand-nieces Crissi, Debi, Jena, Kim, and Laura. She is survived by her grand-nephew Ty. She is survived by her grand-grand nieces and nephews: Christopher, Megan, Ron, Elly, Everett, Sammy, Emme, and Charlotte. Doris is also survived by her sister-in-law Nancy Dickinson (Art). She is survived by Marcella Baldwin (John) and their two children Casey and Meagan; Julia Dorsey and her two children Joshua and Kaitlyn. She is also survived by Phillip Dorsey, Jr. Doris is survived by friends too numerous to count. She has touched so many lives. We have enjoyed her smile, her laugh, and how she could light up a room with her grace and charm. She is now with her Lord whom she loved so well. She is safe in His arms and we look forward to seeing her again in Heaven. Our wonderful little Doris will always be part of so many who loved her. JUNE DOUGHERTY
June E. Dougherty Age 90, of Galena, MD, formerly of New Castle, passed away on September 7, 2009. She was a licensed practical nurse retiring from the former Wilmington General Hospital. Her husband of 51 years, Thomas P. Dougherty died in 1989. Affectionately known to all as Mom Mom, June is survived by her daughters, Judy Burris (Ron) of Bear, DE, and Teri Cox (Bill) of Wilmington; 4 grandchildren, Trace Burris (Sharon), Rene Kuesel (Wayne), Suzanne Brierley (Rob Farris), and Daren Cox (Pauline Waibel); and 5 great granddaughters, Melissa, Sydni, Kathleen, Emily, and Jillian. Alva R. Draper Age 91, of Burke, VA, formerly of Wilmington, DE passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 10, 2009 at her home. Alva, daughter of the late E. Charles Spevak and Rosie Teuchert Spevak, was born in Chester, PA on August 30, 1918 and graduated from Ridley Township High School, class of 1936. Her husband of 60 years, Norman J. Draper, Sr. died in 2001. Alva is survived by her son, Norman John Draper, Jr. and his wife, Marcia Draper of Southport, NC; her daughter, Sharon Jean Turner and her husband, Patrick Turner of Rehoboth Beach, DE; 8 grandchildren, Catherine Draper-Cowan, Lloyd Draper, Sam Draper, Debra Moone, Marcia Draper, Emily Lloyd, Elizabeth Gibbons, and David Lloyd; and 7 great grandchildren. Kevvon Francis Drummond Kevvon Francis Drummond was born and departed this life on May, 14, 2009. He was a precious Angel to his parents, Ciarra L. Harrison and De’Andre Drummond . He was preceded in death by his great-grandmother, Frances M. Walker, his sister, Angelique W. Harrison, his brother, Carlton William Robbins. RUTH DUCHEMIN
Ruth N. Duchemin Age, 76 of Wilmington, DE died on May 31, 2009. Ruth was born in Coatesville, PA and moved to Wilmington in the 50’s. She worked in the medical field and most recently was a merchandiser for American Greeting, Inc. She loved flowers, animals and took care of a flock of canneries. She married the love of her life Milton, 36 years ago and together they enjoyed many activities. Ruth was preceded in death by her son Richard D. Myers in 2008. Besides her husband she is survived by her son, Chip Myers, two step-sons, Gary and Larry Duchemin, stepdaughters, Julie Harrington and Laurie Sachs, her sister Gladys Howard, her stepmother, Vi Hassell, a half brother, Jere Hassel and a half sister, Vonnie Scott. She also leaves to cherish her memory three grandchildren and seven step grandchildren. A funeral service will be held at MCCRERY MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 3924 Concord Pike, Wilmington, DE at 11:00 am on Friday, June 5, 2009 where friends may call after 10:00 a.m. Interment will be at Gracelawn Memorial Park, DuPont Highway, Wilmington.

FREDERICK J. DUCK
Frederick Jean Duck Age 82, passed away at home after a short sudden illness on July 18, 2009. He worked several jobs during his life but he most enjoyed being a counter man at Haldas Bros and Haldas Market. His favorite activity was to “putter around and fix things”. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Anne; 2 children Tim and Holly; 3 grandchildren, Pamela, Emily and Timmy; a great granddaughter, Tiffani and many loving family members.
