Mildred K. Gann Age 94 of Wilmington, DE passed away on September 1, 2009 at Foulk Manor North. Mrs. Gann was a longtime member of Bethel Baptist Church in North Wilmington. She preceded in death by her husband Gordon L. Gann, her brother George Kirk and sister Dorothy Kirk. She is survived by her sister Emma Sue Kirk of Dunluth, GA and her dear friend Margaret Martin of Wilmington, DE. The funeral service will be held on Saturday September 5 at 11 am. in the McCrery Memorial Funeral Home, 3924 Concord Pike Wilmington, 19803. Friends are welcome at 10 am for visitation. ELIZABETH GIOVANNOZZI
Elizabeth C. Giovannozzi “Betty” Age 84, formally of Wilmington, DE, passed away peacefully at her daughter and son-in-laws home in Lewes, DE on April 19, 2009. Betty was born in Wilmington, DE, daughter of Joseph and Edna Chadwick. She was preceded in death by her husband Frank Giovannozzi . Betty is survived by her son Frank E. and his wife Betsy, her daughter, Joan G. and her husband Artie Mousley, III. Also surviving are her grandsons, Al Mousley, IV and his wife Teresa and Frank Mousley , her great grandchildren, Allyssa, Alfred V, Destiny and Jasmine and numerous nieces and nephews. A service will be held on Thursday, April 23, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at the MCCRERY MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME 3924 Concord Pike, Wilm., DE 19803 where friends may call after 10:00. MARJORIE GODLEY
Marjorie Lindon Godley Marjorie L. Godley, age 94, of Wilmington, DE passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on April 27, 2009. Born in Mount Vernon, NY, on October 6, 1914, Marjorie was the daughter of Richard and Margaret Lindon. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Robert, and a daughter, Katherine. She is survived by four children, Ann, Virginia, Robert, and Richard, 7 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Her three local great-grandchildren will dearly miss their Nana for their love of music, baseball, and life. Marjorie was also predeceased by a brother, Father Luke Lindon SCJ, and a sister, Sister Katherine Lindon, RSM. She is survived by a sister, Virginia O’Keefe. Marjorie also resided in Fair Lawn, NJ and Maitland, FL. Marjorie enjoyed living life to the fullest, spending time with her family and friends, listening to her music, and working on crossword puzzles. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Ann’s Catholic Church, 2013 Gilpin Ave, Wilmington, DE on Thursday, April 30 at 1:00 pm. BERNICE F. GOODING
Bernice F. Gooding Age 85, of Wilmington, DE went to be with our Lord on Saturday, November 22, 2008. Mrs. Gooding was born in Stanton, DE on October 30, 1923 to the late Ralph and Helen Stradley. Bernice was a 1941 graduate of Conrad High School and attended nurse’s training at Delaware Hospital. She worked in the administrative offices at Delaware Park and was a real estate agent for Gallager Realty. Bernice was co-owner/operator of Sunnyside Swim Club, Master Fence Co., Churchman Road Go Cart Race Track, and Capital Lock. Bernice had a wonderful sense of humor, was an avid bowler and reader and the # 1 fan of the World Champion Philadelphia Phillies. Bernice had a wonderful sense of humor. Her beloved husband of 51 years, Harvey C. Gooding died in 1994. She was also preceded in death by a great grandson, Cooper David Gooding. Left to cherish her memory are her children; Bob Gooding and his wife, Jill of Raleigh, NC, Wayne Gooding and his wife, Judy of Frederick, MD, and Cindy Gooding-Cotler and her husband, Dr. Stuart of Kennett Square, PA, brother, Ralph Stradley and his wife, Dolores, and sister, Janet Norris of Stanton. Bernice was blessed with 7 grandchildren; Dave, Shawna, Rob, Greg, Brady, Dara, and Naomi, 6 great grandchildren; Carson, Ellie, Anna Claire, Benjamin, Omani, and Odessa, and several nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the staff of Manor Care on Foulk Road for their compassion and support during Bernice’s stay. Dorothy Adelma Grant Born December 20, 1911 At age 97, passed away at her Claymont, DE home on Sunday, April 19, 2009. She was born in Wilmington, DE, and was the daughter to the late Samual and Emma Edwards. She is preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, William Ernest Grant, Sr. in 1981. She is survived by 3 sons, William E. Grant, Jr. and his wife Grace of Wilmington, Donald B. Grant, Sr., of New Castle and Charles D. Grant, Sr., of Wilmington; 5 grandchildren, Charles D. Grant, Jr., of Wilmington, Donald B. Grant, Jr., and fiancé Debbie of Newark and Christina Lawruk, Stephanie Stern and her husband Brian and Brian D. Grant, all of New Castle; 4 great grandchildren, Holly Lawruk, Sara Grant, Makayla Lawruk and William E. Grant. Funeral Service will be private and interment will be in Gracelawn Memorial Park.

GLAYDS GRANTLAND
Gladys M. Grantland 8/4/11 – 9/17/09 Age 98, passed away September 17, 2009. She resided at the Foulk Manor North Senior Living. Born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio, to Joseph Murar and Mary Huttera, Gladys spent most of her adult life in the development of Shelburne, Wilmington, Delaware. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Grantland who passed in 1986. Gladys retired from the Hercules Corporation of Wilmington. Her passion in life was figure skating and she was a successful ice dancer. She and Len met in Lake Placid at a skating event. She devoted most of her life to the skating world and the United States Figure Skating Association as a judge for over 50 years. She enjoyed all aspects of skating and volunteered her judging skills to the Skating Club of Wilmington and many other skating venues around the United States. She supported the SCW Foundation that enables young skaters to promote their skills within the national platform. Gladys was still skating at age 94 and would be quick to say that it is never too late to learn. She proclaimed that skating kept her in good shape and enabled her to continue to be active her entire life. She also enjoyed bridge, scrabble and crosswords. She will be missed by the skating world and all of her wonderful friends. She is survived by three nieces, Linda Payne of Denver, CO, Nancy Lange, Wilmington, North Carolina, Carol Keogh, Clearwater, Florida and nephew, Harold E. Grantland, Aurora, Colorado and their descendants. Visitation will be held Monday, September 21, 2009 from 10 am until 11 am at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 4701 Weldin Road, Wilmington, DE . A funeral mass will immediately follow at 11:00 a.m. She will be laid to rest at Silverbrook cemetery. DORIS EMSLEY GRAU
Doris Emsley Grau Age 87, of Wilmington, DE passed away peacefully on November 22, 2008 at her home. She was the beloved wife for 67 years of Frederick E. Grau. Doris is also survived by her daughter; Edith M. Mills and her husband, Ron of The Villages, FL, her sister; Inez Crystle of Newport, daughter-in-law, Georgeann Grau of Wilmington, 6 grandchildren, and 12 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son, Frederick E. VIRGINIA S. GRAVES
Virginia S. Graves Age 88, of Wilmington, DE, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, January 3, 2009, at the Christiana Hospital. Virginia was a graduate of Newark HS and Beacom College. She began her career in 1959 at the Tatnall School as a Lower School secretary. From 1967 to 1990 Virginia was the Headmaster’s secretary until she retired to care for her husband. In 1992, she was rehired as the secretary of The Development Office until her second retirement in 1998. She was a member of Hockessin United Methodist Church and enjoyed gardening and needlepoint. Her husband Charles A. of 47 yrs., died in 1991. Virginia is survived by a daughter, Sandra Geiser and her husband Edward of Wilmington; a son, Charles E. and his wife Chaffin of Bear; 7 grandchildren, Nicole, Jason, Shannon, Devin, Kerri, Caitlyn and Sean and 2 great granddaughters, Madison and Lily. Scholastica M. Gray Age 97, of Bear, DE, formerly of Pike Creek, passed away on May 4, 2009. She was a very loving, caring, and devoted wife and mother. Scholastica was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Franklin. She is survived by her children; Mary Ann of Newark, Frank George of Pitman, NJ, Joanne M. of Bear, and Carolyn M. with whom she lived; grandchildren, Carolyn M. Catts and Frederick M. Mary Elizabeth Logan Green Age, 93 of North Wilmington passed away on Monday July 6th, 2009. She was born in Zion, MD to the late Solomon and Veatrice Logan. Her husband, Paul Donovan Green passed away in 1978. Mary Elizabeth is survived by her loving daughter Ruth Ellen Marando and several nieces and nephews. ROBERT Q. GREENE
Robert Quigley Greene Age 86, of Wilmington, DE, passed on January 9, 2009 at home. Bob was born to the late Mahlon and Bessie Greene of Gran Rapids, Michigan. He move to Kenmore, N.Y in 1931 and graduated from Kenmore High School in 1939. He attended the University of Michigan and the University of Denver before joining the Army Air Corps in 1943, flying 35 missions with the 15th Air Force in Italy as a B-24 radio operator gunner. He was the recipient of the Purple Heart. After the War, Mr. Greene attended the University of Richmond, graduating in 1947. While in Richmond, Bob met Jessie Bagley of Duluth, Minnesota and they married June 16, 1948. He joined the DuPont Company in Wilmington, DE and retired in 1986 after a 39 year career in the finance & Transportation & Distribution Departments. He was a member of the Sons of the American Revolution, St. Paul’s U. M. Church and the Academy of Life Long Learning. Bob is survived by his wife of 60 years, Jessie Bagley Greene, 2 daughter, Susan Delaney and her husband of Bill of Denver, CO, Priscilla Bagley Greene of Jacksonville, FL, and one son, David Kilmer Greene and his wife Linda of High Point, NC, his sister-in-law Joy Smith Greene of Wilmington, DE, 5 grandchildren, Matthew of Lexington, KY, Julie of Charlotte, N.C., Amy of Jacksonville, Fl, Erik of Wilmington, N.C. and Ryan of Las Vegas, NV and 2 great grandchildren, Allie and Nathanial of Wilmington, N.C. GAYLE MILLER GSCHWENG
Gayle Miller Gschweng Age 58, of Greenville, DE passed away at her home surrounded by her family on Friday, September 25, 2009 Formerly of Wallingford, PA, Gayle graduated from Nether Providence H.S., Kutztown University and University of the Arts, Philadelphia. She was an artist and avid gardener, Gayle combined those skills to produce garden art of large leaves which she molded in concrete and painted in beautiful colors. Her creations are appreciated by many customers who bought her works of art. Her other passion was supporting the Brandywine YMCA swim team where Emilie and Andrew spent many hours practicing and competing. She has had many friends in this wonderful community. Gayle is survived by her loving husband Fred Gschweng; her three children, Christopher, Emilie Gschweng Brown and her husband Joshua Brown, and Andrew Gschweng; mother, Betty Hurd Miller; brother, Gary C. RICHARD E. HALL
Richard E. Hall Age 83, of Wilmington, DE. passed away on Thursday, September 10, 2009 in Christiana Hospital after a brief illness. Richard was born in Port Deposit, MD, graduated from Rising Sun High School in 1943 and attended the University of Maryland where he was a member of Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity and ROTC. He retired from G.M. in 1984 after 37 years service. He was a volunteer for the Wilmington & Western Railroad and a member of the Historic Red Clay Valley Association for 50 years. Dick was also a member of the Pennsylvania Railroad Technical and Historical Society, Friends of the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania in Strasburg, PA and a lifetime member of the National Railway Historical Society. Dick was a railway historian, author and technical advisor. He was a member of the Richardson Park UM Church and the Masonic Harmony Lodge #53 A.M. & F.M. of Port Deposit, MD for 60 years. Richard is survived by his wife of 61 years, Mary (Winant), three sons, C. Curtis Hall (Onie Passmore), Theodore E. (Patricia) and John W. (Jacki) his two brothers H. Howard Hall and John C. Hall and his grandchildren, Bradley, Sierra, Laura, Leslie and Heather Hall. DORIS HANBY
Doris M. Hanby (nee Scheetz) of Wilmington, Delaware, died peacefully Friday, December 26, 2008, at Foulk Manor North in Wilmington, Delaware. Mrs. Hanby was born November 20, 1912, in Chester, Pennsylvania. She lived at Hanby's Corner for a number of years and then resided at Lincoln University, PA. She was a member of New London United Methodist Church, New London, PA, and a long-time member of Siloam United Methodist Church at Booth's Corner, PA. Mrs. Hanby was preceded in death by her husband Charles, to whom she was married for 39 years; 2 daughters, Shirley McComas and Alice George; and a grandson, David C. Roten. She is survived by 4 daughters, Mary Streevy and her husband, Glen, and Ruth Derr and her husband, John of Wilmington, DE; Nancy Price and her husband, James of Escondido, California; and Doris Roten and her husband, Joseph of Landenberg, Pennsylvania: two sons, Charles and his wife, Sandra and Arthur and his wife, Helen, both of Lincoln University, Pennsylvania; 16 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren. Robert L. Hanson Age 83 of Wilmington and Fenwick Island, DE passed away on April 22, 2009. Bob was an Accountant with General Motors for 56 years before retiring. He ushered at the University of Delaware football games for 16 years. He was also a member of St. Marks’s United Methodist Church and was a mason. He was preceded in death by his wife Kathryn Marine Hanson, his son Col. (Ret) Robert L. Hanson, Jr., and his sister Emma Howell. He is survived by his daughter Kathi Minor and husband Jack, his grandchildren, Cassy Reeves and husband Phillip, Kayla Wilson and husband Tim, Stephanie and Trey Minor and great grandchildren, Abigail, Kate and Brooke Reeves. Marie E. Harrison Age 74 of Wilmington, DE a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother passed away on June 12, 2009. Mrs. Harrison was a Title Clerk with Delaware Cadillac before retiring. Marie had previously worked with NuCar Chevrolet, Smith Volkswagon, Ed Fine Olds and Colonial Chevrolet. She was preceded in death by her husband William R. Harrison, Sr. in 1990. Marie is survived by her children, William R. Harrison, Jr. and wife Barbara A. of Newark, DE, Kenneth P. Leon H. Hastings Age 85 of Wilmington, DE passed away on September 23, 2009. Mr. Hastings was a U.S. Army veteran of WW II. He was employed with Speakman Company for 52 years as a Tool & Die Maker before retiring. Leon loved animals, he enjoyed working in his shop, steam locomotives and motorcycles. He was preceded in death by his son Eddie Lester and his sister Ruth H. Hoffman. Leon is survived by his wife of 27 years who have been together for 42 years, Lorraine Hastings; his children, Zelma Iademarco and husband Richard of PA, Kathy Whitehead and husband Estel of TN, Judy Carr and husband Dennis of DE, Patsy Briddes and husband Robert of PA, Teddy Lester and wife Victoria, Garland (J.R.) Marjorie H. Hayden Age 86 of Wilmington, DE passed away at Shipley Manor on July 2, 2009. Marjorie dearly cherished the time she spent with her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Robert and her beloved son William. Marjorie is survived by 1 sister-in-law,1 niece, 2 nephews, 2 grand nieces and 3 grand nephews. VICTORIA HEARN
Victoria M. Hearn Age 91 of Wilmington, DE passed away on December 12, 2008. Born in California, she moved to Annapolis in 1934. She married James M. Hearn, former mayor of Wilmington, DE. Victoria worked as Treasurer and Office Manager for F. F. Slocomb Corp. until her retirement. She was a member of the Quota Club and a long time member of the First Church of Christ Scientist, Wilmington. She was devoted to her family and was an inspiration to all who knew her. She is survived by her brother, Hugh Mason of New York and her sister, Helen Furbish of Wilmington. She also leaves behind six nieces and two nephews. A funeral service will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday December 18th at MCCRERY MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 3924, Concord Pike, Tallyville. Interment will be private.
