DANNAE MANION
Dannae G. (Chance) Manion, 92, of Wilmington, DE, formerly of Indianapolis, Indiana, died on Sunday, September 6, 2009 at her son and daughter-in-law’s home, where she had lived since 2002. Dannae was born and raised in the Indianapolis area. She was a child of the Great Depression/World War II era, and her character and personality were shaped by those seminal events in our history. In her earlier years, Dannae worked part-time in several places, including a favorite job in an Atlanta dress shop where she was able to express her natural eye for style and color. However, the main occupation of her life was as a talented and loving homemaker, devoting her time and energy to raising her family. In 1982, Dannae and her late husband moved to Holiday, FL where they were able to enjoy several happy and fulfilling years of retirement. Mrs. Manion was very creative with interior design and especially enjoyed crafting heirlooms which she shared with her family. Dannae’s husband of 57 years, Niles E. Manion died in 1995. She is survived by their 4 children, Barbara J. Galloway (Chuck) of Indianapolis, Shirley A. Ford of Sumter, S.C., C. Frank Manion (Callie) with whom she lived and Robert L. Manion (Vickie) also of Sumter; 9 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and 19 great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by 1 grandchild, 2 great-grandchildren, her parents, Leroy and Gail, her step-mother, Margaret, 1 brother and 1 sister. The entombment will be held privately and a memorial service will be scheduled later. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests honoring the memory of Dannae G. HELEN G. MARINELLI
Helen G. Marinelli Helen Grace Poppiti Marinelli, oldest daughter born to Carmen and Jennie (Viscount) Poppiti on February 21, 1919, died after a short illness on August 2, 2009. Her husband, Pasquale died in 1972. A remarkable homemaker and family matriarch and counselor, she enjoyed her large family which grew from her four sons and their wives: Vincent and Mary Ann, Carmen and Rita, Eugene and Karen, and Michael and Diane. Helen is also survived by her 3 younger sisters, Grace Blome, Carrie Agostini, and Rose Marie Becker. She enjoyed her 9 grandchildren, and 9 great grandchildren. Helen was preceded in death by 3 brothers, James, Michael, and Felix Poppiti, 1 sister, Gladys DeFlaviis, and grandson, Pasquale Marinelli. Relative and friends may visit from 6-9 pm Wednesday, August 5, 2009 at the MCCRERY MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 3924 Concord Pike, Talleyville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Thursday August 6, 2009 at 10:00 am at St. Joseph on the Brandywine, 10 Old Church Road, Greenville. Interment will be in Cathedral cemetery. LINDA MAROUDAS
Linda Benson Maroudas Linda Benson Maroudas, born April 3, 1955, went home to be with the Lord on July 10, 2009. She is survived by her husband of 32 years, Peter H. Maroudas, her children, Diana and Greg, her father, Lou Benson, her sister, Lori Combs and husband, Dave, her niece, Amy Dunn and nephew, Jeff Vitcusky and their Dad, Ron Vitcusky, and many friends. JOHN H. MARTIN
John H. Martin Age 89, of Wilmington, DE, surrounded by his family at his home, went to be with his Lord on Wednesday, June 17, 2009. John was born in Maugansville, MD, to the late Abram and Susie(Horst) Martin. He graduated from Eastern Mennonite HS in 1938. John was the owner and operator of Merchandise Mart Service Center from the early 60’s until his retirement in 1982 when his son Dale took over the business. John and his wife were one of the founding families of Bethel Baptist Church and he was instrumental in the acquisition of the land that the church and parsonage stand on today. He also faithfully served on the Elder and Deacon Boards and was a member of the Men’s Quartet and a soloist in the choir. After retirement, John and his wife enjoyed traveling to their vacation homes in Sea Isle City, NJ and Sun City, AZ. During his travels and stays in the hospital, John enjoyed sharing his Christian faith with whomever he could. John is survived by his wife, Margaret (Carey) of 64 yrs; 2 sons, Donald and his wife Cheryl, and Dale, Sr., and his wife Nancy, both of Wilmington; a daughter, Susan Blau and her husband Jeffery of Raleigh, NC; 8 grandchildren, Michelle, Kelly, Eric, John, Jaclyn, Dale, Jr., Jason and Justin and 5 great grandchildren, Sarah, Laura, Eliana, Noah and Grayson. John was the last of 8 siblings. Funeral service will be on Saturday, June 20, at 10am, at the Bible Baptist Church, 801 Darley Road Wilmington, Delaware 19810, where friends may call from 7-9pm on Friday, June 19. MICHAEL MASCIANTONIO
Michael L. Masciantonio, age 30, of Claymont, DE, formerly of Glenolden, PA, passed away peacefully on April 8, 2009 after a long courageous battle with Duchennes Muscular Dystrophy, surrounded by his family and friends. Born in Media, PA Michael attended Glenolden Elementary School and graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School, Wilmington. An avid and devoted Philadelphia sports fan, Michael was an outstanding athlete himself, excelling at baseball and hockey despite his disability. In fact, while a houseful of family and friends celebrated his 30th birthday last December, Michael was dutifully following both his 76ers and Flyers on the big screen. He was a self taught computer “geek” and both family and friends called upon him often to unglitch their glitches. Michael was also an excellent producer of videos for all family occasions, and for the last several years, he was an ebay “power seller”. He was an energetic, tireless worker, most nights staying up until 1am to perfect his most recent project. Michael’s favorite vacation spot was Knoebels Grove, and each year the family could count on Michael for details on all the new attractions. He also enjoyed family vacations at Disney World. Michael never let his disability get in the way of being his own man, preserving his individuality until the end. His courage and determination will always be an inspiration to his family and friends. A loving son, grandson, and brother, he is survived by his parents, Alice and Michael Masciantonio ; his brother, Zachary; his sister, Elizabeth and his grandmother, Rosemary Becky – all of Claymont; his aunts, Georgene Martino and Marcy Paschall; his uncles, Joey Muscarnero, Frank Martino and Len Paschall; his cousins, Don, Sherry, Kaycee and Kelsey Bock, in addition to numerous other cousins; his godparents, Nora Martini and Marc Marini; and his 2 best friends, Charles Stuller and Neil Zolad, who were devoted not only to Michael, but his entire family as well. A viewing will be held from 8-10am, Monday, April 13 at the McCrery Memorial Funeral Home, 3924 Concord Pike, Wilmington, DE (located on Route 202, just south of Silverside Rd.). A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30am, Monday at St. Joseph’s on the Brandywine Catholic Church, 10 Old Church Rd., Wilmington, with interment to follow in the adjoining churchyard.

BETTE JEAN MATHEWS
Bette Jean (Malcolm) Mathews died May 28, 2009. A graduate of Mt. Pleasant High School and Beacom College, she was an executive assistant at the Dupont Company and assistant to the president at Topco, Inc. before retiring to raise her children. An avid gardener, she was dedicated to her family and cultivating flowers. She is survived by her husband and two grown children. Services to be held at 11am, Monday, June 8 ,2009 at the MC CRERY MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 3924 Concord Pike, followed by burial at St. Joseph’s on the Brandywine cemetery.

FRANCIS J. (SPARKY) MATHEWSON
Francis J. Mathewson “Sparky” Age 89, of New Castle, DE passed away on September 13, 2009. Mr. Mathewson was the son of the late William H. Mathewson, SR and Annie V. (Mitchell) Mathewson. He worked for Coca Cola Bottling Co. for 40 years before retiring. Sparky attended the New Castle Senior Center. He had a contagious laugh, loved to play cards, country music, NASCAR, playing pool and watching western movies, especially John Wayne. He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Marion Higley Mathewson in 2006 and by his brothers, William (Henry) Mathewson, Jr. and John J. Mathewson and sisters, Rosanna Van Veen and Evelyn (ENE) Wagner. He is survived by one sister, Elizabeth (Biff) Scala of Pittsburgh, PA . and many nieces, nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday September 18, 2009 at 11:00am. in St. Peter’s Catholic Church, 521 Harmony St. New Castle, DE 19720. Friends are welcome for visitation from 9:30- 11:00 am at the church. Burial will follow in Gracelawn Memorial Park, N. Dupont Highway. DAVID MATTHEWS
On Tuesday, May 19, David C. Matthews, Sr., went to live with our Grand Geometrician, in the house, not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. At 69, he died peacefully, at Christiana Care, surrounded by his family. Dave, a lifelong resident of Delaware, was a graduate of Salesianum High School in 1957, served in the United States Marine Crops from 1958 until 1962 and married Joan Boiarski in June of 1963. He attended both the University of Delaware & Goldey Beacom College and was the founder of Del Haven Enterprises, Inc. A tenacious provider for his wife and children, Dave owned and operated the Del Haven Cafe in metropolitan Wilmington for 36 years. Being a man of compassion and integrity, he joined the fraternity of Ancient Free and Accepted Masons in 1987 and served as the Master of Newport Ionic Lodge #31 in 1993-1994. Dave also served as Commander of the Legion of Honor at NUR Shrine in 1990. He worked for the State of Delaware Capitol Police and semi-retired as a baliff for the Delaware Superior Court System. The son of the late Paul D. Matthews, Jr., and Cecelia C. Matthews, Dave was a devoted husband to his wife Joan A. Matthews (Bojarski) for 45 years. He is also survived by his son, David C. Matthews, Jr. and wife Mickey, daughter, Dana Vascik and husband Ron, son, Craig D. Matthews, sister, Claire Pratzner, and husband James, sister Elaine Matthews and companion Bruce Justusson. The little shining lights of Dave's life are his beloved grandson and granddaughter, Cameron D. Matthews and Paige Vascik, both whom he cherished and adored beyond words. Viewing will begin at McCrery Memorial Chapel, 3710 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, DE 19808 on Saturday, May 23, 2009 at 9:30 am followed by a Masonic Service. MARIE MAURO
Marie T. Mauro Age 83, formerly of Wilmington, DE, passed away on November 18, 2008 in Ocala, FL. She was predeceased by her husband, Daniel A. Mauro, Sr. in 2004. Marie was one of the founding members of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church and also helped start the church’s Altar Society. Marie is survived by her children; Daniel A. Mauro, Jr. of Chipley, FL, Carol Spotts of Ocala, FL, and Gail Fidance of Wilmington, DE, a sister, Rose Fortunato of Wilmington, 2 grandchildren; Holly Spotts-Piper of Orlando, FL, and Ian T. Fidance of Wilmington, and many loving nieces and nephews. A memorial mass will be held on Saturday, December 6, 2008 at 1:00 pm at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 4701 Weldin Road, Liftwood. Interment will be private. LOU MCCALL
Louis K. McCall “Lou” Age 71 of North East, MD and formerly of Wilmington, DE passed away on June 10, 2009. Mr. McCall was the Owner/Operator of McCall’s Dental Sales and Service for 30 years. He was an avid outdoorsman with a love of all animals, especially horses. He also enjoyed going to car shows where he won several awards for his antique car. Lou is survived by his wife of 17 years, A. Theresa McCall; his children, Michael McCall of Wilmington, Richard McCall and his wife Lisa of Chesapeake City, MD, Linda McCall and Wayne Stewart of Claymont and Debra Reed of Milford, DE; his step children, Marianne Rybaltowski and husband Lenny, Catherine Dennis and husband Brian, Barbara Evans and husband John, Jaqueline Teti and Thomas LaRocca and wife Simret; 14 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. MARIE MCCAULLEY
Marie A. McCaulley Age 90 passed away on 9-8-09 at the Jeanne Jugan Residence in Newark. She was married to the late Fred H. McCaulley who passed away in 1965. She was a Telephone Operator at the Credit Bureau of Wilmington and the Wilmington Senior Center. Marie is survived by her niece, Marie Dzielak and her husband Stanley, her nephews, Michael Horgan and his companion Lark Nagle, and John Horgan and his wife Susan. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on 9-11-09 at 10:30 a.m. at the Jeanne Jugan Residence (Little Sisters of the Poor), 185 Salem Church Road, Newark, DE 19713 where friends may call after 9:30a.m. Burial will follow in All Saints cemetery, Kirkwood Hwy., Wilmington. ANN MCCOLLUM
Ann Richardson McCollum, age 84, passed away on Monday, August 10, 2009, at Christiana Hospital, after a lengthy illness. She was born on December 25, 1924, in Wilmington, DE to the late Walter Richardson and Elsie Bratton Richardson. Ann devoted her life to her home and family. She loved gardening and animals of all kinds, and held a special place in her heart for cats. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul C. McCollum, and her daughter, Sharon (McCollum) Mulrooney. Ann is survived by her sons, Paul R. McCollum and Mark E. McCollum, his wife, Pamela J. McCollum, and son-in-law, David J. Mulrooney, husband of the late Sharon M. Mulrooney. In addition, she is survived by her grandchildren: Paul R. McCollum, Jr. and wife Debby, David B. Mulrooney and wife Bridget, Keith P. Mulrooney and wife Holly, Kelly M. McCollum, Christopher D. Mears, Sarah L. Mears, and Justin P. Mears, and great-grandchildren: Ryan P. Mulrooney, Juliana L. Mulrooney, Kylie E. Mulrooney, Jude D. Mulrooney, Seamus L. Mulrooney, and Alexis A. McCollum. MARIE MCKEE
Marie L. McKee Age 48, of Wilmington, DE passed away on January 24, 2009 at her home. Marie is survived by her husband, Jeff Ellingsworth; mother, Joan M. Petrucci; sisters, Sally A. Jensen, and Susan L. Rodalunas and fiancé, Tom Donahue; brother, Nicholas A. Petrucci, Jr. and wife, Angela, and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Nicholas A. MADELINE MCLAUGHLIN
Madeline T. McLaughlin (Moffett) Age 81, of Wilmington, DE passed away peacefully on Monday, February 9, 2009 with family members by her side. Madeline was born in Wilmington on May 5, 1927, daughter of the late Rose & Charles Mergenthaler. Growing up in Marshallton, DE, Madeline was a life member of Mill Creek Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary. Matty, as she was known by many, loved serving people. This was evident with her years of managing or serving meals at the Maryland Ave. Charcoal Pit, the Ivy Stone, and Cosmo’s Restaurants where she made many friends. After her retirement, she worked for First State Bus Service aiding handicapped students to and from school. Madeline loved bowling and playing bingo. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Madeline is survived by her husband of 39 years, Michael W. McLaughlin; 4 children, Fran Tebbutt and her husband, John, Harry Moffett and his wife, Linda, Karlyn Hall and her husband, John, and Linda Moffett all of Wilmington; 2 step-children, Frank McLaughlin, Sr. and John McLaughlin and his wife, Susan all of TX; 2 brothers, Lawrence Mergenthaler and Freddie Mergenthaler and his wife, Dolores, 2 sisters, Charlotte Hickman and Loretta Davis all of Wilmington; 7 grandchildren, Michael Hall, Stacey Broomell, Andrew Moffett, Frank McLaughlin, Jr., Ben McLaughlin, Elizabeth McLaughlin, and Heather McLaughlin, 4 great grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by brothers, Charles and Walter Mergenthaler, sisters, Gertrude Wright, Florence Wilkins, and Margaret Birney, and step-son, Michael W. McLaughlin, Jr. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to her “adopted” son, John Alexopoulos, Christiana Hospital Acute Elder Care and Heartland Hospice House. SALLY MCLAUGHLIN
Sally A. McLaughlin, 55 of Wilmington, died at home on 3/1/09 after a long struggle with ALS. Born and raised in Washington, DC., Sally graduated from the University of Delaware in 1975 and from the Philadelphia Paralegal Institute in 1977. She retired from Golatz, Griffin and Ewing in December 2004. Sally was active in her women’s book club, Saint Mary Magdalen Church, and the SMM Home and School Association. She volunteered at Delaware Humane Society and Canine Partners for Life. Sally gave many talks about her experiences with ALS for the Greater Philadelphia Chapter of the ALS Association as well as lobbying Congress to support ALS research funding. Sally loved vacations at the beach with her family and socializing with family and friends. She was known to all as a great talker and avid runner. She was predeceased by her parents Frank C. and Mary Jane McGrady and her brother Stephen. She is survived by her husband of 30 years, Thomas J. McLaughlin, as well as her children Kevin T., Molly E., and Eileen M., who will miss her love and support. Also mourning her loss are her sister Karen Cole, her brother Chuck McGrady and his wife Camille, and her husband’s family. Her service dog Decker was a faithful companion and source of comfort to Sally until the end. JOSEPH MCGLINCHY
Joseph H. McGlinchy, 89, a former resident of Brandywood, Wilmington, died suddenly on March 25, 2009. Joe was born in Wilmington to Joseph H. and Mary McGlinchy and graduated from Wilmington High School, class of 1936. He attended the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School. A decorated combat veteran of World War II, Joe served from 1941-1945 in the U.S. Army, stationed in the European theatre, and was awarded the Bronze Star. After his service to our country, Joe worked for E.I. DuPont Co. in the Auditing Division of the Treasurer’s Department. In his spare time, he was a member and Past Commander of Delaware Veterans of WWII and also had served on the Board of St. Edmond’s Academy. He enjoyed golfing and bowling. Joe’s wife of 49 years, Helen M. McGlinchy, died in 1997. He was also preceded in death by his 2 brothers, Charles S. and John P. McGlinchy. He is survived by 2 sons, Joseph H. McGlinchy and his wife Nancy, T. James McGlinchy and his fiancée Linda Travers, 2 daughters and sons-in-law, Anne M. and Samuel Merrick and Mary M. and John Massie; and 4 grandchildren, Daniel, Elizabeth and Matthew Merrick and Charles Massie. A viewing will be held from 9:30-10:30am, Tuesday, March 31 at the McCrery Memorial Funeral Home, 3924 Concord Pike, Talleyville (Route 202, south of Silverside Rd.) followed at 11am by The Mass of Christian Burial at The Church of The Holy Child, 2500 Naamans Rd. CHARLES MCVAUGH, SR
Charles P. McVaugh, Sr. Age 89, of Wilmington, DE passed away on May 5, 2009 at his home. He was an Army Air Force veteran of WW II. He served with the 8th Air Force 511th Bomb Group as a radio operator in a B17G. He flew 23 missions over Germany and won numerous medals with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters. Charles retired in 1984 as an electrician with I.B.E.W. Local # 313 in Wilmington after 35 years service. He was past master of Unity Lodge # 32 A.F. & A.M. in Newport and a member of Red Clay Creek Presbyterian Church. Charles and Betty enjoyed traveling between the Rocky Mountains and Florida and visited all 50 states. Charles is survived by his wife of 67 years, Betty H. McVaugh, 2 sons; Charles P. McVaugh, Jr. and his wife Anne S. of Avondale, PA, and John N. McVaugh, Sr. and his wife Sharon W. of Leesburg, VA; 1 brother, John McVaugh of Hockessin; 3 sisters, Helen Knowles of Stanton, Josephine Deats of Smyrna, and Edith Davis of Wilmington; and 4 grandchildren, Charles S.,Peter M., Jennifer Lynn and John N. McVaugh, Jr. A memorial service will be held on Friday May 8, 2009 at 11 am. in the Red Clay Creek Presbyterian Church, 500 McKennans Church Rd. Wilm. DE 19808. Interment will be private. WILLIAM MCVEY, JR.
William J. McVey, Jr. Age 95, formerly of Wilmington, DE, passed away on August 5, 2009 at the Delaware Veterans Home, Milford, DE. Bill retired from the Hercules Company as a printer in 1976. He was a WWII Navy veteran and served on the USS Vicksburg in the South Pacific, Iwo Jima and Okinawa. Bill was a member of St. Mary Magdalen Church, a lifetime member of the D.A.V. and the International Pressman’s Union. He was also an avid golfer at the Hercules Country Club and a Notre Dame and Philadelphia sports team fan. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Gladys Mitchell McVey, his children, William, III and his wife Marie, Susan Townsend and her husband Guy, Stephen and his wife Faith, Terrence and his wife Janet and Gerald and his wife Sandra, his grandchildren, Richard, Shawn, Kimberly, Stephen, Joseph, Kevin, Patrick, Erin and Ryan and his great-grandchildren, Kyle, Madelyn and James. The family would like to extend their thanks to the Delaware Veterans Home for the compassionate care that they provided to Bill during his final days. Friends may call on Monday, August 10, 2009 from 9:30- 10:30 a.m. at the MCCRERY MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME 3924 Concord Pike, Wilm., DE 19803. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary Magdalen Church, Sharpley Road and Concord Pike. Burial will be in All Saints cemetery.
