LINDA NOVELLO
Linda G. Novello, age 58, of Wilmington, died suddenly on April 27, 2009 at her home. Born in Carbondale, PA, Linda was a 1968 graduate of Brandywine High School and attended the University of Delaware and Goldey Beacom College. She started her career as a legal secretary working for John Rollins, then was employed for almost 20 years at the law firm of Young, Conaway, Stargatt & Taylor. Most recently, Linda was employed full-time as a graphic designer for Grant & Eisenhofer and part-time for Philip Gabriel Photography, and also ran the website for prestigiousdames.com. Gentle and nurturing, Linda’s most rewarding career was as Mom to her 3 children, but also with a soft-spot in her heart for anybody and everybody. She was creative, bright and talented, having mastered several musical instruments and several foreign languages. Linda is survived by her husband, Paul L. Novello; 3 children, Pamela Spiering (Shawn), Paul Tyler Smallwood (Beverly), and Alyssa Novello; her parents, Rev. Robert and Alice Eastlake; 1 brother, Robert W. Eastlake (Barbara Hahn); and 4 grandchildren, Astra, Gabriel, Paul and Shayna. A funeral service will be held at 10am, Saturday, May 2 at the McCrery Memorial Funeral Home, 3924 Concord Pike, Talleyville (Route 202, just south of Silverside Rd.) where a viewing will be held from 6-9pm, Friday, May 1 (additional, overflow parking is available at the Brandywine YMCA, 3 Mt. Lebanon Rd.). Interment will be at Gracelawn Memorial Park.

MILDRED O'CONNOR
Mildred E. O’Connor “Millie” Age 82, of Wilmington, DE passed away Saturday, June 13, 2009 surrounded by her loving family. Millie was born April 11, 1927 in Camden NJ to Phillip and Catherine Elliott. She grew up in Wilmington and graduated from Wilmington High School in 1944. Millie worked for TWA, Dupont and ICI. She and her husband Paul retired to Sebastian, FL in 1983 where Millie worked part time for the Indian River Public Library. Her hobbies included bridge, golf, volunteering at the Robinson House, and attending classes at the Academy of the Life Long Learning. She was predeceased by her husband Paul in 1985. Millie is survived by a brother Raymond Elliott and sister-in-law Betty O’Connor; sons Paul Jr. (Michelle), Phillip (Sybil), and Matt; daughter Jeanne Ademski (Mike); and eight grandchildren Ryan and Chelsea Ademski, Daniel, Heather, Paul, Sean, Carly, and Courtney O’Connor. The family would like to thank Sunrise Assisted Living for their exceptional kindness and compassion. A memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, June 18, 2009 at 2 pm at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church 1000 Shipley Rd. (Shipley & Weldin Rds.), Wilmington, DE 19803 where friends are invited to call beginning at 1 pm. Interment will be held privately. HELEN OLIVER
Helen A. Oliver, 81, of Claymont died Thursday, July 16, 2009, at her home surrounded by her family after a courageous battle with lung cancer. Helen was born January 15, 1928 in Aston, PA, the daughter of Atwood and Matilda Steward. She was a founding member and past Worthy Matron of Ruth Chapter #19, OES and was very active with the Shriners. She retired from the Delaware Art Museum and in later years worked for H&R Block. She enjoyed travelling with her husband and spending many summers at their place in Fenwick Island, DE. Her husband, Walter (Ollie) of 59 years, died in 2006. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, William Steward. She is survived by her brother, Thomas Steward of Glen Mills, PA, and her brother-in-law, Joseph C. Oliver of Clifton Heights, PA. Her children, Carol Ann Gartner and husband, Ted, of Ridgecrest, CA, W. Kent Oliver, Jr. of Ellabell, GA, twins, Denise H. Gregg, and Thomas W. Oliver, both of Wilmington; 8 grandchildren, and 8 great grandchildren. She is also survived by 3 nieces and 2 nephews. Her family would like to thank Melissa Deary of Vitas Hospice and staff, and Dr. Michael Guarino and staff for the loving care Helen received. Herbert C. Owens “Herb” “Hub” Age 74, of Wilmington, DE, beloved husband of Barbara (nee Collins) of 51 years, peacefully passed away at his home on Saturday, September 26, 2009 after a short illness. Herb retired from Daisy Construction Company in 1997 as a supervisor. He was an avid golfer, NASCAR fan and enjoyed playing the slots. He is predeceased by his parents, Fred and Thelma Owens; brother, Robert Earl; sister, Opal Hauge and niece, Betty Grace. Herb is survived by his wife, Barbara; brothers, Charles and his wife Angie of West Grove, PA, George and his wife Joan of Talleyville and Murphy and his wife Bonnie of Dagsboro; sister, Maryalice Eller of West Chester, PA; precious dog, Taffy; brother and sister-in-laws, Norma and Jim Klabe of Lewes; Virginia and Jim Fischer and Doris Owens all of Wilmington. Robert E. Owens, Sr. Age 87, of Newark, DE passed away on March 28, 2009. He was a Navy veteran of WWII and was a retired machine operator for Certified Concrete Co. Services and interment will be private. Arrangements by MCCRERY FUNERAL HOMES.
WILLIAM T. PATTERSON JR.
William T. Patterson Jr. “Bill” Age 66, died after a brief illness on Friday September 18, 2009. Bill was born to the late William and Kathryn Patterson. He worked for Wooleyhan Transport Company for 25 years and was later self employed. He loved hunting and fishing and was a lifelong member of the NRA and a member of the Newark Anglers. He enjoyed fishing on Sunset Lake with his children and grandchildren and loved just to spend time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He possessed an infectious sense of humor which he passed on to all of them. Bill is survived by his loving wife Nancy (Toulson) Patterson; his children, Shawn T. Patterson and his wife Annmarie and William T. Patterson III and his wife Rosemary; his brother, David B. Patterson of FL. Also left to cherish his memory are his grandchildren, Shawn T. Jr., Michael, Zachary, Lauren and William T. IV. The family would like to extend their deepest appreciation to the Christiana Care ER staff and the 3E MICU for their care and dedication to Bill and his family during his illness. A Gathering will be held on Monday September 21st from 6—8 pm at the MCCRERY MEMORIAL CHAPEL, 3710 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington DE. ROBERT PEOPLES
Robert H. Peoples Robert, devoted husband of the late Lois Pyle Peoples, died Sunday, December 7, 2008 at the age of 96. He was born in Wilmington, DE and graduated from Wilmington HS in 1929 and the Wharton Evening School of Business in 1933. Beginning at Canby C. Mammele, Inc., as a co-op student in 1928, he went on to become president and the owner of the business in 1960. While he turned over the presidency of the business to his son in 1984, Mr. Peoples remained associated with Mammele’s until 2003. Among his many civic and community activities, Mr. Peoples served as a member of the Board and later President of Goodwill Industries, facilitating it’s move from French St. to 17th and Spruce Sts and the expansion of its locations. Mr. Peoples also served 3 one year terms as President of All-Pro Corporation, a national buying co-op for the distribution of paint and related merchandise. He served on the Board of Old Brandywine Village. As a member of the Optimist Club, he served as President of the local club and Lt. Governor and Governor of the District. A life long member of the Emmanuel Orthodox Presbyterian Church(formerly Eastlake OPC), he served as Chairman of the Board of Trustees and was integrally involved in the church’s move to its present location on Wilson Rd. Mr. Peoples also served on the Board of Managers at Wilmington Saving Fund, retiring from that position in 1987. A member of the Wilmington Country Club, Mr. Peoples helped form the 9-19 Golf Group. He also enjoyed small game hunting, especially birding. He was the loving father of R. Alan Peoples, Ruth Peoples Crawford and Lois Peoples Pyle and uncle of Franklin H. Berens. In addition, Mr. Peoples is survived by 3 grandchildren, John Peoples, Andrew Peoples and Carol Crawford Alvarnaz; 4 great grandsons and 2 great granddaughters. SHIRLEY PEREGOY
Shirley G. Peregoy Age 72 of Dover DE passed away on November 14, 2008. Mrs. Peregoy was an avid Phillies fan and loved watching QVC. She was preceded in death by her husband William H. Peregoy in 1986. She is survived by her daughters, Rhonda Piecuski and husband Raymond Sr. and Jeannie Lawhorne and husband Clinton III; her grandchildren, Paula Piecuski, Pamela Piecuski and Lauran Piecuski-Workman and husband Scott, Raymond Piecuski, Jr. Chase Lawhorne, Logan Lawhorne and Shelby Lawhorne; great grandsons Douglas Piecuski and Jesse Anthony; brothers James Cartwright, Donald Cartwright and Emory Cartwirght and sister Minnie Richardson. Shirley is also survived by her special sister in-law Sharon Cartwright, favorite niece, Tamera Brockhause and favorite nephew Douglas Cartwright. The funeral service will be held on Monday November 17, 2008 at 11am. in the Chapel of Gracelawn Memorial Park, Dupont Highway, New Castle. Family and friends may call at 10 am. CHERYL PETTIT
Cheryl A. Pettit Cheryl A. Pettit, surrounded by her family, went home to be with the Lord on January 2, 2009. She was 51 years old. She was a graduate of Henry C. Conrad High School (1975) and a graduate of Goldey Beacom College (1977) with a degree in accounting and business administration. She battled a 26 year illness with Multiple Sclerosis. Cheryl enjoyed many hobbies which include all types of arts and crafts, collecting butterflies, and music boxes. She also enjoyed listening to Barry Manilow, her favorite singer. Left to cherish fond memories are her parents, Robert C. and Evelyn J. Pettit who dedicated their life to helping care for her needs, her sister, Pamela J. Watts and husband Gilbert, her niece and god child, Ashley M. Watts, and step nieces, Sherry Dixon and Robin Watts and their families. The family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday evening from 6:30-8:30 pm at the MCCRERY MEMORIAL CHAPEL, 3710 Kirkwood Highway at Duncan Road. Cheryl was an active member of Grace Lutheran Church where the funeral service will be conducted on Friday, January 9, 2009 at 11:00 am at Grace Lutheran Church, 2033 Graves Road, Hockessin, DE 19707 where the family will receive friends starting at 9:30. JEANETTE PHILLIP
Jeanette Wright Phillip, 89, a lifelong resident of Delaware, died peacefully on June 4, 2009 at her home in Newport. Jeanette was born in Laurel to the late L. Hubert and Nellie Wright. A 1938 graduate of P.S. DuPont High School, Wilmington she was happy to attend her 70th reunion last November. She worked as a key punch operator for the DuPont Company for 26 years. A lifetime Episcopalian, Jeanette had been an active member of St. James Episcopal Church in Newport from 1946 to 1975 where she was a member of the Senior Choir, taught Sunday School and worked with the Junior Choir. Later in her life, Jeanette retired to Sussex County where she joined St. Martha’s Episcopal Church in Bethany Beach, participating in their choir and their E.C.W. chapter as a member and past president. She had been a Meals on Wheels volunteer, a member and officer of the Millville Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary and a member of V.F.W. Post 7234 in Ocean View. Jeanette was a current member of St. Barnabas Episcopal Church. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Martha P. “Marti” and George R. “Ronnie” LaRue; her grandson, William J. “B.J.” Betts and his wife, Maria; her great-granddaughter, Cianna Betts; her sister, Eleanor W. Beatty; 2 step-grandsons, Robert B. and Ronald A. LaRue; 2 step-great-grandsons, Robby and Joshua LaRue; and her close friends, Norma Lee and Paul Hitchens, Nancy Bunting, and Carol and Gerry Fournier. In addition to her parents, Jeanette was preceded in death by her husband of 36 years, Joseph A. Phillip, who died in 1979, her infant daughter, Bonnie, who died in 1944, her brother, Wheatley Dale Wright, who died in 1985., and her step-grandson, Donald W. LaRue, who died in 1996. The family would like to thank for their excellent care of Jeanette: the Delaware Hospice staff, especially Renee, Linda, Elizabeth and Angela; and her physicians, Dr. Carlos Reyes and Dr. Clifton Hunt. A viewing will be held from 11am to 12noon on Tuesday, June 9 at the MC CRERY MEMORIAL CHAPEL, 3710 Kirkwood Hwy. ANTHONY W. PIASCINSKI
Anthony W. Piascinski Age 77, of New Castle, DE, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, September 27, 2009 Tony was born in Wilmington, DE on September 15, 1932, son of the late Anthony J. and Josephine Wisniewski Piascinski. He was a proud Army veteran of the Korean War. Tony retired in 1987 from Diamond State Telephone Co. after 30 years of dedicated service. He was an avid fisherman, hunter, and enjoyed spending time with his family and many close friends. Tony is survived by his wife of 56 years, Mildred (Ruh) Piascinski; his sons, Rick, Rob, and Randy Piascinski and his wife, Lisa; his granddaughter, who was the joy of his life, Paige Piascinski; his brother, Joseph Piascinski; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and many wonderful friends. BARBARA ANN JAY PICKERING
Barbara Ann Jay Pickering Age 82, of Wilmington, DE, originally of Richmond, IN, died on Thursday, July 9, 2009 at Sunrise of Wilmington surrounded by her loving family after a long battle with Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease. Ann graduated from Richmond HS, and attended the University of Arizona, and Earlham College in Richmond, IN. Ann was a loving wife and mother. She pursued her interest in Delaware history working for the Historical Society of Delaware as a tour guide at Old Town Hall and the Read House and then as a tour guide and flower arranger at the Nemours Mansion and Gardens for 25 years. Ann was also a freelance writer who contributed many articles to the newspapers in the Wilmington area, profiling local residents and subjects of local interest. Ann is survived by her devoted husband of 62 yrs, Frank; a son, James Pickering and his wife Natalie Watson of Virginia Beach, VA; a daughter, Natalie Freeman and her husband Tom of Hockessin; 1 granddaughter, Meredith Pickering and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Dr. Deborah Zarek and the staffs at Sunrise of Wilmington and Compassionate Care Hospice for their love and support of Ann and her family over the last 6 years. Ruth E. Pierce Age 85, of Wilmington, DE passed away on August 15, 2009. She was the Office Manager with State Distributors for many years before retiring in 1985. Ruth was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Albert J. Pierce in 2000. She is survived by her 2 children, James W. Pierce and Ruthie Pierce and her fiancé, Mark Pugmire all of Wilmington; 2 grandchildren, Jamie Bartoski and Christopher J. Marvel, 3 great grandchildren and 1 sister, Mary Sammons of Ft. Pierce, FL. MICHAEL PINGITORE
Michael A. Pingitore Age 49, of Newark, DE passed away on September 12, 2009 after a 2 year courageous battle with acute lymphocytic leukemia. He retired from the US Postal Service in 2008 and was an Air Force veteran. Michael is survived by his wife of 28 years, Lora W. Pingitore; 3 children, A.J. Pingitore (Christi), Andrew M. Pingitore (Jenna) , and Jillian A. Pingitore; 1 brother, Joseph D. Pingitore ; 3 sisters, Josie Parsons, Rosemary Mahala , and Jackie Forlino; and 5 grandchildren, Evan, Addyson, and triplets, Kennedy, Olivia, and Juliet. The family would like to express their sincere thanks to the nurses on 6-B at Christiana Care for their excellent care and kindness they extended to Michael and his family. ene Sitaras Platos Irene Platos, of Wilmington, DE, born August 5, 1927, passed away on May 1, 2009 at home surrounded by her loving family after a courageous battle with ALS disease. She was a lifelong member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church and a lifetime member of the church ladies Philoptochos Organization and the Daughters of Penelope, for which she served many years. She was a very proud member of her Hellenic heritage and a true leader. She was most loved for her strength, and spunky personality. Mrs. Platos is predeceased by her parents, Barbara and Michael Sitaras; her beloved husband, Thomas Stanley Platos; son, Stanley Thomas Platos; sister, Mary and brother-in-law, Tom Magiros; brother, John and sister-in-law, Flo Sitaras; and nephews, Cosmos Panaretos, and Michael John Sitaras. She is survived by her loving son, Michael Thomas Platos; her 3 nieces and nephew, Barbara Panaretos, Dr. Lee and Rene MacKewiz, Christine and John Lazopoulos Jr., and George Magiros; grand-nieces and nephews, Katherine, Melissa, and Johnny Lazopoulos, and Jessica Sitaras, and her very loving Stephen Panaretos. Irene G. Porter age 92 of Wilmington, DE passed away on Wednesday evening, March 18, 2009 in Kentmere Nursing Home. She was a wife of 63 years and homemaker. She was pre deceased by her husband George in 2003. Irene is survived by her four sons, Ronald, George, Steve,and Paul, six grand children and ten great grandchildren. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday March 23, 2009 at 10:30 am. at Saint Matthews Church, Fallon and Maryland Avenue, Woodcrest.
